Eziachi:
If you think that Tinubu is not in charge, you knew nothing about Nigerian politics. The last time Fashola tried to flex his muscles, he nearly got himself impeached. How can anybody be asking what Eziachi profers as the solution to Nigerian problem? let me list again so that you not repeat the same question again.
1. Sovereign national conference leading to a referendum
2. Hundred percent powerful regional autonomy with a very insignificant centre/resources control
3. Confederation based on four nation- Biafra- Arewa-Oduduwa- Delta (minus the Igbos)
4. Total/Outright Independent based on the above four nations or any agreable union between any group in marriage.

You said Jonathan is different, but I said, he isn't, if he is let him open his mouth this morning and promise us that conference and see what will happen to him. He cannot because he is now part of the cabal you expect him to destroy. From what I heard, ACN promised to join Buhari, if he will make soverign national conference, one of his agenda- How true? I don't know
Everything must be done in an ordered step, you said, but the fact is that you and I knew that Jonathan has no plans because he never knew he will be where he is today. He only wants to be president for the sake of being a president.

You must understand that I had nothing personal against Jonathan, I just want praise singers like you to know that we had seen all this before and how people like you got your hopes dashed in the past. At my age, I had seen it many many times in the past with Nigerian rulers. They friends, they are the same, they have the same agenda and will alway end with the same end product.
I observe that step one in your list jumps over (or ignores) many other fundamental steps.
I have just one question. What do you think needs to happen before we can even get to step one on your list?

To be honest with you, if we were to go into the issue of zoning, Jonathan IS THE ZONING CANDIDATE. I had my lawyers do me a brief on this and I was shocked by the result.

At the appropriate time I will open a thread on this, I can show using the PDP constitution that the next presidential candidate of the PDP, must come from the SS or SE if they really want to abide by their constitution.

But to the part in bold, 9ijaMan is from a part of Nigeria where "men" are "men" and the cows are afraid, so he can't understand what you are talking about.
We eagerly await it!

Eziachi:
Dear Mr Beaf,
I am surprise you claimed not to know where I stood on the scheme of things in Nigeria. You think that Jonathan is your Messiah sent to clear out your so-called Cabal. Ok, take a look at the picture of Jonathan going for his party screening and the type of Nigerians that went with him. After looking at those pictures and you still think that Jonathan is not only part of the cabal his second coming is going to destroy but now the leader of that cabal.
You haven’t taken any stand, if that is what you think you are doing with your blind support for Jonathan. You are only doing what most Nigerians does best, support blindly any government in power and complain later.

Tell me one single the guy has done or even said that is not the usual old order?
Where is his promised 6000wt electricity?
Where is security? The worst road in Nigeria (Ore/Benin/Asaba/Onitsha) road is in his zone.
To start fixing Nigeria, Jonathan must first be talking about a Sovereign national conference for a start. The SNG thought he was their man in that regard, but they have seen his yanch and what they saw is not only ugly but very smelly.
Any who made Aneni his campaign manager cannot be serious. This is the Aneni, Oshiomole has politically buried few months ago, and did GEJ do? Resurrected him
I take it you did not enjoy the satire?
I expected one of your deep and seasoned replies.

Has Fashola not managed to dig himself out of Tinubu's shadow? If the answer to that is yes, then the next is; did he achieve that in his first year?
If you expect magic in one year in todays Nigeria, you will wait forever.
As for where you stand in the scheme of things, you made that quite clear in your article. I still ask you, what solution do you profer, what clear pathways to it can be cleared and how? My mind is made up, lets see you unmake it.

About the Sovereign National Conference you mentioned (which I strongly support), do you know of any aspirant that is promising that? Why should that hurdle be Jonathans alone?
Without first uprooting the cabals, do you think it is even remotely possible to begin talking about a Sovereign National Conference? Everything must be done in ordered steps. I have at least painted a picture of where I am herded, convince me with yours.

One again as is typical of Beaf/Faeb aka Ma_J_Blige, you are attempting to stand history and facts on their heads. I suppose the likes of Anenih, Obj and the rest of team GEJ are not part of the cabals you referred to above. Eziachi could not have painted the picture any better than he did. His (Eziachi's) attempt, though hilarious depicts GEJ clearly as he truly is, the one with less usefull grey matter between the two candidate.

If you cannot enjoy the joke, at least you should be able to grab at what Eziachi is hinting at. With people like you in Nigeria, we need not complain about bad leadership. You are here once again threading the path of bigotry (religious and ethnic), yet you keep blaming the other side of the same crime. Shame on the likes of you!
I am quite sure Ezeachi doesn't need your help. Especially with such an off point response, you could as well be responding to a question you heard in the wind.

My point is simple, all those on the side of zoning need to be kicked out, same as those with bonds to Bayero college etc. It is a question of liberation, those are not light words. And dude, I couldn't care less about your thoughts on that, cos I strongly suspect you are not inclined by circumstances to have the slightest clue of where I or the majority of disenfranchised Nigerians are coming from.

Ezeachi: I am never a supporter of this present charade called One Nigeria
. . .
The problem is that Nigeria slaves (masses) will never learn that all these guys are friends and they are bound by one thing- Greed!  Greed that is fuelled by the ever flowing crude oil booty they are sharing among themselves since 1970. Whether they are in ACN, PDP, ANPP, CPC or APGA, they are all birds of the same feathers and when they do quarrel, they never seems to quarrel over who has got the best policies for their voters as obtained in real democratic and serious nations. They only fight about individual political positions, i.e. who controls the source that money comes from. But you do feel helpless watching or reading about Nigeria slaves taking these guys serious and calling themselves supporters or even kill for these guys.
Sam Mbakwe use to say that "First Time fool No Be a Fool But The Second Time Fool Is The Proper Fool".
Ezeachi.
I would have ignored it as with other similar ones, if not for the height at which I traditionally place you.

So, what is your belief, what philosophy drives you? What do you hope to achieve by floating in the wind, political disengagement and despondency? Or are you just unhappy that I have taken a resolute stand?
I ask these questions because, your article is packed full with helplessness and finger wringing. What solutions do you profer to the situation you have painted?

For me, the solution is easy. Remove the cabals that have held us down and we can begin afresh, and that is what GEJ embodies in his battle against zoning.
Take a look at the proponents of zoning; do a census for how many have connections with Bayero college; do another cencus for how many have connections to the officer corps of the 60's and their subsequent govts; do yet another census of their ethnicity and and inhale the stench of their ethnic supremacist politics.
There are a few other exercises than the above which a wise head like yours can come up with much better than myself.

I have seen a pathway and am sticking resolutely to it and without the least regret. I agree with you that the average Nigerian is enslaved, the question is; who put the chains on us?
Ezeachi, even if you have no belief in one Nigeria, how are you going to leave without removing the boot planted on your back by the slave master? Opportunities do not arrive everyday.

Money laundering: US moves to prosecute Atiku
Written by Taiwo Adisa, Abuja
Thursday, 13 January 2011

The government of United States of America has kickstarted moves aimed at prosecuting Nigeria’s former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, for his roles in the alleged laundering of over $40 million to the country through Jennifer Atiku Abubakar, his fourth wife, between 2000 and 2008.

A document obtained by the Nigerian Tribune and which was endorsed by a member of the US House of Representatives, Honourable John Conyers Jr. had confirmed that the US Attorney-General had been empowered to look into the Abubakar case.

A letter from Conyers dated January 7, 2011 and addressed to Honourable Eric H. Holder, the US Attorney General said that the US would not be taken seriously in the fight against financial crimes if it cannot deal with such crimes when they happen in its shores.

The letter read: “I am writing to refer information to you by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (PSI) relating to suspected money laundering by Politically Exposed Persons. Its bipartisan staff report titled “Keeping Foreign Corruption out of the United States: Four Case Histories,” the Subcommittee details four serious matters involving [potential crimes, including one involving US citizen Jennifer Douglas, wife of Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president and current Presidential candidate in Nigeria.

“I realise these matters raise serious questions and involve matters of foreign relations as well as more conventional law enforcement considerations. At the same time, there is a risk that our ability to promote rule of law abroad may be compromised if we cannot remedy alleged violations of our anti-corruption laws by powerful foreigners.

“An electronic copy of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee’s bipartisan staff report accompanies the email transmission of this letter. The report is also available at the Subcommittee’s website.”

In his reaction, head of media, Atiku Campaign Organisation, Garba Shehu, dismissed the allegation with a waive of the hand, saying there was nothing to it.

According to him, “This is a recycled story. They said it two years ago, and they are going round with it again. But I can assure you all these are mere figments of the imagination of their fabricators. Nothing of such happened. It is just a smear campaign, there is nothing to the allegation.”

I agree with most of what you say, but I cannot accept your inclusion of Ribadu.

Given the relatively Junior position he occupied, he has shown his true dictatorial nature. What would happen if he was made President?

He lacks any experience which would qualify him as a presidential candidate. Can you imagine the Director of the FBI standing for the office of President of the USA without any other political position? What would people think if the head of the Fraud Squad in New Scotland Yard decided to contest for The PM position in the UK.

Ribadu is a newspaper creation and at best a distraction.
You are right, there are many question marks around Ribadu (the most recent being his sense of judgement). Yes Ribadu lacks experience and will not deliver his village, talkless of his state, but a big plus for him is that has a much higher morality than the average political leader.
My fear for him is the unbelievable weakness he has shown, which is lust for power; he never took out the time to build any sort of base, not even in his state! He will fizzle out in the next few months and might never rise beyond political commentary, except a govt gives him a position where he can shine.

Ultimately, Ribadu's power lust has marked him as a man for sale, and a man to be used. Its sad.

My friend, partisan Nigerian newsources, controlled by Nigerian politicians, deliberately feed erroneous news to world media regularly to distort the real picture of the actual state of events . It is the oldest trick in the book when there is a propaganda war to be won. I remember in 2006 when an American news agency (wether na reuters sef) stated that Kalu was the top contender for the Presidency because he had "structures on the ground" . I had a good laugh because it was obvious deception was at work . Few days later the SUN (owned by Kalu) printed the same story word for word . grin grin
He was quoting the ACN chairman, Akande.
Also, Joe Brock works for Reuters, not any part of the Nigerian press.
If Atiku (or Bayelsa Cowboy) is allowed to run to run under the banner of CAN then it will confirm what is buried deepest in my heart but I refuse to (out of denial, I guess) admit, that: All Nigerian Politicians, and their, parties are mostly made up of crooks without any ideology to stand on except, of course, that of making as much money as possible via state coffers. Or how else do we explain the so called "Progressive Party" fielding someone that has been confirmed as enriching himself while Vice President and one who is currently doing so as President?
As soon as you accept the bolded, you will know exactly where to stand. There is no progressive party, rather there are a few genuine and dedicated people who have risen through the murk in the various parties by dint of character. They are the likes of Jonathan, Ribadu (question marks), El Rufai, Fashola, Sule Lamido, Sullivan Chime, Amaechi etc.

The most popular example in the SW is Fashola, yet he was propped up for the position as a stooge to Tinubu (who is known to be a drug baron); he played the fool, got into position and became his own man by the second year, the rest is history (as are his sapping battles with Tinubu's various attempts to impeach him).
The stories of the other men mentioned are all similar, they all played along to climb.

It is important that the youth allow the scales fall from their eyes, there is no progressive party in Nigeria, there is none that even has an ideology.
If Nigeria is to have any sort of future. We need to support these men and kick out the old bats, vultures, blood suckers, thieves, murderers, coup plotters, cabals etc that have held our country in their grip since the 60's. It will take time, vision and wisdom.
Our reward will be the institutionalisation of true federalism; a national ideology citizens can key into and believe in, in place of the current void; a state-citizen contract that converts our country from the mere piece of land our ancestors were born on, into a nation to which we all proudly belong.

Nigeria must never again be hostage to the primitive politics of zoning, theft and blinding corruption. The power is in our hands to sweep the vultures away forever, but we must first harness the power of our minds to see through the haze.

Everyday , the Party is gaining credibility as a serious opponent to the PDP yet some of you posit that the ACN will destroy every advantage it has worked hard to gain by re-admitting a lightweight political cast-off/p.rostitute from the PDP when the same man humiliated the Party previously with how he grovelled to return to the PDP , from the then AC Party, while insinuating that the AC Party cannot help him actualise his ambition? This article is intellectual junk written by the usual 'Olodo' mudslingers from team GEJ. Who talked about Atiku before he became consensus candidate? WHo will talk about him , let alone give him a platform, once he has lost to Jonathan
You mean Joe Brock of Reuters works for team GEJ? I think that is really streeeeeeeetching things. grin

@topic
Lets stop this holier than thou attitude with the ACN (or any other political party), it is simply dishonest. All Nigeria's political parties have members who are corrupt to cringe-worthy levels, and by the way, Atiku is ex-ACN, so there will be no big deal if he makes his way back; ACN's chairman, Akande's statements are nothing but an open invitation.
The singular issue every progressive Nigerian (especially the youth) should be concerned about, is how to purge the likes of Atiku, IBB and other massively corrupt individuals and their cabals from the political scene, regardless of party affiliation.

Nigeria opposition would accept losing PDP aspirant
Tue Jan 11, 2011 1:55pm GMT
By Joe Brock

ABUJA (Reuters) - One of Nigeria's main opposition parties said the losing candidate in this week's ruling party primaries could switch to its platform and still run against President Goodluck Jonathan in April elections.

Nigeria's ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) holds its primaries on Thursday, in what is expected to be a closely fought showdown between Jonathan and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The opposition Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) party is due to hold its primaries a day later, potentially allowing the losing PDP candidate to run for its ticket.

"If by any chance any PDP (member) who decamped to ACN is fit or is adjudged fit by the national committee, definitely we will accept such people," ACN chairman Bisi Akande told Reuters.

ACN presidential aspirant and former anti-corruption chief Nuhu Ribadu said he welcomed competition from anyone who could help the country defeat the PDP, which has won every election since the end of military rule more than a decade ago.

He said he would have no problem with the defeated PDP candidate contesting for his party's ticket, or with the ACN linking up with any other opposition parties, provided they supported a democratically chosen nominee.

"As much as I believe I could be the person who could bring change in my country, I'm not a selfish person, I'm certainly a person who will play as a team to bring change in our country, I have no difficulties with that," Ribadu told Reuters.

The ruling party has won every election since 1999 and the losing aspirant in the primary would be an outsider in presidential polls if he ran for under another party's ticket. As the incumbent, Jonathan is viewed as the front-runner.

But the PDP is more divided than ever before.
A pact in the party says that power should rotate between the mostly Muslim north and largely Christian south every two presidential terms, a rhythm which Jonathan's candidacy would disrupt.

Abubakar, a northerner, emerged as his main rival after being selected by a group of influential northern politicians as a consensus candidate. His failure to clinch the primaries could see some northerners turn their backs on the ruling party.

Ex-military ruler Muhammadu Buhari, another powerful northern politician, has already been chosen by the opposition Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) as its presidential candidate for the April elections.

Ribadu won international praise for arrests and asset seizures as the first head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) anti-corruption agency, but analysts say he lacks the political weight to win a presidential election.
