Subsidy probe: How SSS burst $3m bribery scandal •Oil chief used pen recorder to nail Rep •We won’t side with corruption - House Written by Taiwo Adisa, Abuja Sunday, 10 June 2012 FURTHER details emerged at the weekend on the process through which the State Security Services (SSS) burst the $3 million bribery scandal currently ravaging the House of Representatives adhoc committee which probed the fuel subsidy regime. Investigations by Sunday Tribune confirmed that the Service had been on the trail of all parties involved in the oil subsidy probe from the inception of the high calibre probe embarked on by the Honourable Farouk Lawan-led committee. The security agency was said to have been alerted by persistent allegations of bribe taking and demand for bribes made against key members of the probe committee. For instance, it was learnt that some oil marketers were said to have raised the alarm that they were scandalised in the report of the House because they refused to meet some officials of the adhoc committee for closed-door discussions .Sources, however, said the Service was later to approach an oil magnate who was said to have also been asked to pay a certain amount as bribe by some persons fronting for the committee. But the oil magnate was said to have agreed to help facilitate a proof for the security agency by entering into direct talks with a key member of the adhoc committee. Sources confirmed that a pen recorder was then made available to the oil chief, who used the same to record his discussions with a top member of the House Committee involved in the bribe scandal. “The Service got him in audio and in video. He collected the money and they have since invited the leadership of the House of Representatives to watch the film,” a source said, adding, however, that the SSS decided not to dabble into issues that are not strictly linked with security, a development that made it to transfer the tape to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). It was gathered that before handling the investigation of the scam, the Service had shown the video to the leadership of the House, including the speaker, Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. Besides the $600,000 said to have been collected by the representative, he was also said to be expecting a balance of $2.4 million after doing the job requested of him by the oil magnate. But sources in the National Assembly said members of the committee were taken aback by the conduct of their member who was said to have consistently denied taking any bribe during the process of compilation of the report. “We had suspected along the line that money was exchanging hands. Some people claimed that the sum of $3 million was given to a member by an oil concern in Port Harcourt. Others said another set of industry players doled out the sum of $1 million to get protection in the report. “In all, it was gathered that about $10 million was involved in the bribe saga. “The EFCC has been alerted on the possibility of the sum rising to $10 million. The total amount involved in the bribe saga is about $10 million (about N1.5 billion). The money was said to have come from different sources,” one of the sources told Sunday Tribune. It was learnt that some enraged members of the committee have vowed not to protect any individual over this matter. Sources, however, said on Saturday that moves were afoot by some powerful forces in Abuja to stall the prosecution of the House member. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives maintained on Saturday that it would not stand with corruption in the face of bribery allegation levelled against the committee. The Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Honourable Zakari Muhammed, in a statement obtained by Sunday Tribune, said “the attention of the House has been drawn to reports alleging that one of its members has, in the course of his committee work as a member of the ad hoc committee which investigated the subsidy regime, allegedly received a gratification from an oil baron to exonerate his companies from complicity in the oil subsidy scam.” The lawmaker added that, "while we await investigation into these weighty accusations, we wish to state without equivocation that this honourable House will never take side with corruption and we will always stand on the side of the rule of law.” The statement also said “the reason we inaugurated the adhoc committee to look into the controversial subsidy regime in the first place was to expose corruption in the sector. As such, we cannot, for whatever reason, support any underhand dealing from any quarter. “However, these accusations, whatever their merits, do not detract from the quality of the work done by the committee. The report of that committee was adopted by the whole House and we stand by the resolutions of the House. “The present House of Representatives will not relent in it's efforts to render quality legislation and oversight functions to Nigerians. Today, we are gradually beginning to see the end of this monstrosity that has bedeviled our progress as a nation for so long. "We hope that the executive will not, because of this allegation, abandon it's commitment towards bringing to justice the culprits already identified in the committee's report.” http://www.tribune.com.ng/sun/front-page-articles/7547-subsidy-probe-how-sss-burst-3m-bribery-scandal-oil-chief-used-pen-recorder-to-nail-rep-we-wont-side-with-corruption-house |
^ Lucifer, can you say amen to your own prayer? We are waiting. |
Read the constitution before starting silly threads. This is just irritatingly stup!d. |
acidtalk: Owner of the school because it is his father's money or your devilish lucifer father that built the school.I'm still waiting for you to say amen to your own prayer, fool. In the meantime, there are threads for MAULAG. Don't attempt to derail this one. Bigger winshes than you have tried and failed, so give it up. Farouk Lawan is a thief and so are you. |
yohanna zack: My people, dont u think this is the handiwork of the corrupt people? I suspect gej, okonjo, alison and sanusi lamido to be behind dis set up, jst to tarnish the image of dis man, since he insists on subsidy probe.Get real. Can you set someone up to demand and receive a bride? |
acidtalk: BEAF, are you so dead in thoughts. You are a thief and a fool. You came with your barbaric prayer and challenged me to say amen. I did. Not stopping there, I challenged you to say amen to your own prayer. But instead, like the "born to rule" thief and murderer you are, you have been stammering and staggering. Farouk Lawan is a thief and so are you. ![]() |
Billyonaire: Whats your point little mind, that you support Farouk Lawan thievery ? sometimes I feel like you lost braincells that controls rational reasoningThe bolded is why he is here, talking like something that was found in the gutter. They are all in the same gang of thieves, thats why they turn NL threads into primitive personal battles as if that will change the facts on the ground or create acceptance for their mentally and morally marooned arguments. |
acidtalk: Son of Lucifer, get something straight.if Farouk Lawan took bribe, he should be stripped naked and beaten round abuja like a common market petty thief.Your father is Lucifer. I said asked you to say amen to your own prayer and like the scum and thief that you are, your tongue is frozen. You gutter spurn son of Beelzebub and worshiper of Baphomet, say amen to your own damn prayer. Phucking "born to rule" serpent. |
acidtalk: If truly you love and support GEJ 100% I will like you to say amen to the following prayers. (Either you say it or not, so shall it be)Amen. Now, you thieving red-eyed toad, can you quit smoking pawpaw leaf and say amen to your own prayer? Farouk Lawan is a thief. Kill yourself, bro. ![]() |
acidtalk: This is like the 10million time you are repeating "I am not beaf". It is just obvious that now maTter how many times an ma*d person changes his cloths, he will surely remain MA*D. Your I'd can't help you dude.Dude, would the fact that Billyonaire and me are not the same person free Farouk Lawan the six fingered thief? Or will it make your "born to rule" eyes less red than they are? Farouk Lawan is a thief, bro. Quit smoking pawpaw leaf and accept it jare! Next tin una master go begin tell us about dog and baboon. Nematode. |
^ No probs dude. Glad to meet a kindred spirit. |
acidtalk: I have promised not to insult any member ever again on nairaland. But beaf , billionyare aka Reno Omokri you know what?? ?? You Are A Mother Fuc*-king Bas*tard. You sound quite mad, bro; like you've been smoking pawpaw leaf. Seen a doctor yet? ![]() Farouk Lawan is a thief that has been caught on video. If all you "born to rules" like, you can hang or burst veins in anger. Whatever you do is a waste of time, the tectonic plates have shifted. |
PointB: Will be keeping an eye on the one. Farouk Lawan, Integrity Group indeed.Kai! Laf don make my cassava fall! ![]() |
Next one to catch...El-Rufai. ![]() |
Lol! See how NL's "born to rule" brigade have started peeing their rafia pants! I've just read through the thread and its hilarious! Farouk Lawan asked for $3milla egunje, SSS furnished him with a part payment of 0.6milla USD... And the clown even had time to smile not realising he was on TV! ![]() Farouk Lawan is a thief, who was caught and videoed redhanded. Why are our NL "born to rules" getting all hot under the collar and insulting everybody? Funny stuff! |
acidtalk: It will be a MIRACLE for this country to ever get better. It is a deliberate ploy to hide the truth. Ignore them. |
kingoflag: Half-Educated. Years of Neglect by the Govt. (Education Sector). If this trend continues, 10 yrs from now, having a discussion with a person "educated" in Nigeria will be a harrowing experience; ignorance level will be in the ozone layers. You'd be better off discussing with a brick wall. Thats why its so easy for a beast like Beaf to constantly sway them because he's slightly more educated and a little savvier than them. smhThis is funny! Because your born to rule guy has been caught with his hand in the cookie jar, you lose your temper and insult all Nigerians! Keep at it and think Nigerians love being insulted by you born to rule types. Lol! Farouk Lawan is a thief. |
montelik: Vettel on pole, Lewis p2, Alonso p3 and Webber p4. All the WDC contenders lumped together. Should be an interestin race tomorrow. But worryingly for the others, it looks like Vettel is rediscovering his mojo and Ferrari are prancing back to where they should be.Good one for Vettel! He gambled by carrying very little wing, so he's done for if it rains or even drizzles; if it doesn't then it'll have been a brilliant gamble. The others (including his team mate, Webber) are carrying far more wing. |
philip0906: oh yeah dats where they'll c u. . .what of the report of the other planes that crashed? You are funny, but its out of ignorance. Plane manufacturers handle investigations into crashes, so if an aircraft crashed due to a fault, you should go ask the manufacturer for any reports. You certainly don't ask me. Seen? |
Billyonaire: Dont worry bruv, I have got them locked down. They cant derail the thread, a ma show them I was born a man for nada.Nice. Welcome to the trenches, you've sadly had first had experience of the crude tactics the villains employ. |
Sealeddeal: Whether this was planned to smear him or not,u should knw dat devil tempts you by what he know u like and eat.so this bribery issue,if its true, has shown dat subsidy report was directed against those dat didnt bribe and it equally show dat Farouk actually is a criminal and a rogue.actually, this will goes to show dat he has always deal in bribe and now come to play on people's brain as a saint.Simple. Many of us asked why Rilwan Lukman, the petroleum minister under whom the vast bulk of subsidy crimes occurred was never summoned. That was the smoking gun proving that Tambuwal and Farouk were simply playing a political game of deception and self enrichment like the criminals that they are. The gullible quickly bought their story, but thats what gullible people do all the time; even when its their own interest thats being sold. |
otokx: Really crazy stuff so what is the point then of the black box?All aircrash investigations take years. The pieces of the plane would be painstakenly fitted together, pin by pin and various leads followed and crosschecked against the blackbox. Its no kids game. |
Billyonaire: I cant but laugh at you. You think you have been able to derail the thread. Hell No!!! Farouk Lawan (subsidy Probe Committee Chairman) In $600,000 Bribery Scandal))Dude, pay no attention to those shiit flies. Their emptyness upstairs is only matched by their gutter morality. All they are trying to do is dillute or derail the topic. @topic Reps Disown Farouk Lawan, Jagaban Over $3million Briberyhttp://ireports-ng.com/2012/06/09/reps-disown-farouk-lawan-jagaban-over-3million-bribery/ God don catch dem. One by one, all those with plots against the people will fall. ![]() |
Sources in the National Assembly confirmed that the heat was turned on the adhoc committee man some days ago when he got wind that the State Security Services(SSS) has tapes of his receipt of the bribe from the oil magnate and that the service was ready to confront the leadership of the House with the details.http://www.nigerianeye.com/2012/06/subsidy-probe-farouk-lawan-in-3million.html End of the road. |
DrugDoc: Nigerians haven't seen nothing yet. GEJ, on the advice of the fine economists Ngozi Iweala and Lamido Sanusi offered to Nigerians a golden gift: TO CLOSE ONE OF THE GREATEST SOURCES OF CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA CALLED THE FUEL SUBSIDY. Instead we Nigerians kicked and cursed and demonstrated without understanding the issues. Yes, our people hate to study issues and listen to experts in any field like Iweala and Sanusi. Even NLC and TUC subsidiaries benefit from cheating Nigerians with this so called fuel subsidy. Yes,NLC and everyone else is demanding FG builds ten refineries before removing subsidy Everyone wants cheap fuel on the back of the Niger Delta. Not to worry, coming fuel shortage will dwarf those of the military era, and demonstrators should be ready to import their crude oil for "subsidy". Your parasitic Farouk Lawan and Tambuwal are scum, with or without the bribery allegations. Thanks, bruv. Sometimes, its hard not to weep for a country where few want to hear the truth for one perveted reason or the other. We were told the brutal truth that the fuel subsidy was simply an out of control train of unbridled corruption that had to be scrapped. Many demonstrated against the truth. Those who demonstrated against the truth became easy fodder for deception as the country was made to believe that the devil was really a saint. I guess it is almost impossible for our society to learn lessons; we even have people for whom the lure of an indolent life of awuf is so great that they steal from aircrash victims. We have a long way to go. |
Fnights: Corruption in this country has reached endemic levels. When Ribadu said that all nigerians are corrupt, he was vilified. I don't care who you are or where you're from, we all have our price tag. What I don't understand is how a senator probably accruing 800 million naira a year in salaries and bonuses ends up with a price tag of $600,000(90million naira). Well I guess Subsidy probe is over. A win win situation for everybody yet, we all lose. The masses get to satiate their desires for retribution by exposing the corruption, the Government gets to look like actually tackling the issue and the oil companies and the various moguls get to carrying on with business as usual. Well done guys, well played. He actually asked for $3million. The 0.6million USD was meant to be the first installment. |
Billyonaire: I am worried, seriously worried why we have these evidences and no one is in kirikiri. How come this criminal Lawan is not in Jail, and why is Otedola stilk out there free ? I am not impressed. Its the weekend thats why. This whole thing is still breaking. However, Farouk Lawan has already been called in by the EFCC. As for Otedola, it is easy to piece his connection together as: 1. Govt see's that Tambuwal and Farouk Lawan are playing IBB/Atiku/Buhari's power rotation game for 2015 and trying to rope in innocent political opponents, especially those like Otedola and Dangote. 2. Farouk Lawan and his crew play the self-enrichment game and approach Otedola for brown envelopes. 3. Otedola informs SSS. 4. SSS provides Otedola $600,000.00 in marked notes (forensically marked) and probably the video taking spy pen. 5. Otedola gives Farouk Lawan the marked money. 6. Farouk Lawan takes marked money. 7. Otedola video's the show with spy pen. 8. Farouk Lawan and Tambuwal make a heluva amount of noise about their "integrity." 9. Quiet Joe maintains silence. Two months pass. 10. June 09 2012... Bingo! EFCC moves in! ![]() Otedola has nothing to answer, Farouk Lawan, Tambuwal and co were simply caught redhanded playing the "born to rule" cabals game. |
^ Dude, if people attack me, I'll clout them between the eyes. I take no prisoners. naijaking1: I agree, cheap personal attacks derail meaningful threads, and should be discouraged if you ask me.The bolded is their exact intention, bruv. Lol! I'm with you 100%. @topic This is an apt pic, the picture of a thief and dangerous deceiver: |
Billyonaire: Am a great fan of yours bro, I come here, and I go through topic, then wait for your intelligent responses. I am prepared to tackle those morons with myopic minds. They mistake me for Great Beaf, I wish I can fit into those great shoes of yours. Thanks bro. The respect is mutual, I greatly admire you too and am equally flattered the desperate mix-ups of the red-eyed, belly crawling clan. |
Billyonaire: I am not Beaf, you are daft. Focus on the issues and stop selling your stup!dity.Welcome to NL, bro. This is the place to meet people like Mr Globe, freshmoney, rhino.5dm, alj haram, ileke idi, kingoflag etc; people who are deafeningly smug in their stup!dity. They try hard to derail topics like this one with personal attacks. Sometimes its best to ignore them, at other times I take joy in poking their pathetically rheumy eyes out.

bayooooooo: 600k is not a paltry sum. So I am interested on how the money was delivered to Lawan. Was it given out cash or was it transferred or wire to some account same way the Malabu OPL245 was shared with GEJ government being the facilitator? He was paid in marked notes. Marked notes are those that have been given security tags that are only made visible by special equipment. SSS were on the guys tail from the onset, while he was running around, fooling the public and playing the politics of the IBB/Atiku/Buhari "born to rule" clique. Making the criminals look like saints and putting blame on the whistle blowers; Nigerians are cheap to fool and it is saddenning. You people need four eyes and x-ray vision. |
freshmoney: Beaf! No matter how anonymous you are, I will descry you! June is getting to an end. Any achievement on eliminating the subversives- Boko haram? Keep spamming Nairaland with multiple IDs. Be ashamed for once dilettante!I wonder if you see me in your dreams too or imagine me snatching your woman. Ode! Ayam only taking a break from Q3 in the F1 qualifying to hansa you. Olodo, ode buruku! Amadioha soda ya yansh! Abeg, continue exposing yourself defending thieves and vultures and leave my name out of your idiocy. Thank you. |
