^Exactly! babapupa:With due respect, this is severe batu. Stop trying to make becomerich jealous, the new mod says it is not allowed. ![]() @topic What exactly is going to be taught to these kids in SA that can't be taught right there in Lagos? Aren't these young Lagosians being told that there is no worthwhile person or location at home, hence they've got to be flown abroad? Its a terrible shame, the training has already failed. Why can't they go on tour of Alausa and be seconded there for the full one week? |
What are the charges against him and why have the other CBN cases slowed down? Has Sanusi realised something? Those bankers may be corrupt and guilty as hell, but Sanusi's agbero methods will only free the guilty and take the country backwards. |

UPDATE 1-Nigeria graft agency detains returned ex-bank boss Wed Aug 4, 2010 7:23pm GMT Wanted banker detained hours after return from Britain * Charges relate to last year's $4 billion bailout * Family says he has returned to clear his name By Nick Tattersall LAGOS, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Nigeria's anti-corruption agency detained a former bank chief on Wednesday following his return from Britain, a year after he was declared wanted to face graft charges in the wake of a $4 billion bank sector bailout. Erastus Akingbola, former chief executive of Intercontinental Bank, left for Britain after he and the heads of four other banks were sacked by the central bank and charged with graft and money laundering last August. Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which declared Akingbola "wanted", said last month it had written to the British Home Office requesting his extradition. Akingbola returned to Nigeria late on Tuesday in what family sources told local media was an effort to clear his name. "We have detained him and seized his travel documents because investigations are ongoing. The outcome of investigations will determine the next line of action," EFCC spokesman Femi Babafemi said. The central bank injected $4 billion into nine lenders including Intercontinental last year, saying reckless lending and inadequate risk management had left them so weakly capitalised they posed a systemic risk. Akingbola was charged in absentia a year ago in Lagos, where half a dozen other directors of Intercontinental also stand accused of granting loans to companies in which they have interests, and failing to ensure the bank met minimum capital adequacy and liquidity requirements. The court ordered the freezing of Akingbola's accounts and assets totalling around 346 billion naira ($2.3 billion) and $10 million pending the final determination of the 28-count charge against him. Akingbola challenged the asset freeze in court and asked to be reinstated. His lawyers argued that Central Bank Governor Lamido Sanusi did not follow due process in removing him from his job. "Akingbola's voluntary return to the country is to defend himself against all allegations against him in the law courts," Nigeria's This Day newspaper quoted an unnamed family source as saying. "He is presently consulting with his legal team and the outcome of these consultations would determine his next steps." Akingbola's lawyer could not immediately be reached. 9jaganja:Thats a lie! You must be thoroughly confused. The articles I referenced say the Egun migrated from Ghana, they passed through Ketu (Ketou, French spelling) in Northern Benin Republic. The people of Ketu are Anango (Yoruba), they are the ones who came from Ife. The passing contact they had with Ketu people is the sum total of their relationship with the Yoruba. Egun people are Ewe folk who migrated from Ghana. Show them some respect dude, no offence but, they will never be Yoruba. This is the proof; [flash=480,385] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3FIWNdQcTM&hl=en_GB&fs=1[/flash] PS; there was no Yoruba nation then, hence the name Anango. |

chosen04:There is nothing grammatically wrong with that. Positions can be superior or inferior, the only argument might be that the words were used inappropriately (in a politically incorrect way). |
I really don't agree with this. It is totally wrong. Are they trying to tell our youngsters that they cannot get leadership training in Nigeria? What sort of leaders do we expect them to be, when they are given a very solid impression that their home is so second rate it cannot host their leadership training? |
agabaI23:I didn't see it either. It is terrible to cast damaging falsehoods at others. |
I don't believe the story until a more reputable outlet reports it. |
na_so What you have pointed out is so true that it is almost funny. The very zoning principle that IBB and Atiku are causing so much commotion with actually rules them both out! |
@friendehis While there is nothing wrong with VB.NET, you will find that the most popular languages you will encounter as a Developer have C style syntax, eg C#, C, C++, Java, PHP, JavaScript etc. Picking up C# will lead you through a quicker route to all other C style languages, an experienced C# Developer is able to look at a Java, C, C++ etc programme and easily understand it, whereas VB.NET leads to the comparatively microscopic and obscure Basic style languages. There are also very few open source VB.NET apps, an absolute no no for beginners who must rely on some free code and free apps; both as shortcuts and to see how things are done. |
Ranoscky:Looking at it that way, its difficult not to agree with you. Perhaps, I should have used kidnappers as an example instead; they carry out their nefarious deeds and continue sending text messages for ransome money without being traced. |
^ Not everybody here speaks Yoruba, lets be civil. If you were talking to a specific poster it would be ok, but when you're talking to everyone, its bad. |
I blame Nigeria's planlessness more than I blame the hoaxer. In other countries, nobody sends such text messages, because they will surely get traced, tried and locked up. In Nigeria, people have even sent a text messages to threaten the lives of top govt officials and not been caught. Lets blame our planless, dataless country. We have traditionally been ruled by rumour and brute force, dangerous text messages like the one in concern, only go to show the weaknesses of our govt systems. |
9jaganja:Are you a street fighter? You aren't doing yourself any favours with these crazed outbursts. Maybe I should open a manners and etiquette school urgently to teach, teach teach and patiently teach. ![]() Egun people are Ewe people. Their culture, music dance and LANGUAGE is Ewe. . . although your friends own sounds like Yoruba to you. . . And thats just because he is actually speaking Yoruba! lol lol lol lol. Egun peeps can actually go to Ghana and be understood on the streets there by Ewe people, you can't. Egun people migrated from Ghana. Will it kill you to accept that they aren't Yoruba? No matter how much you dream that they should be? Stealing an ethnic groups identity is destroying its soul; it is the worst form of tribalism. Egun people claim to be Egun and feel insulted by those who call them Yoruba. |
9jaganja:It simply said, they migrated from Ife; which means they could well be Bini or some other ethnicity (how about they were Egun?). But by your own measure of how you aren't Bini; since they now speak the same language as the Ewe in Ghana, they are in fact Ghanaians. ![]() Egun people are Egun. Period. Drop the stretched arguments. |
Nigerians in diaspora cannot vote – Jega National News Aug 4, 2010 Share | By Ben Agande ABUJA—NATIONAL Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, yesterday, said the immediate priority of the commission was to register Nigerians within the country to vote in the 2011 elections. He said it was impossible for Nigerians in the diaspora to be registered for next year’s election. Jega who was receiving a delegation of Nigerians in the Diaspora Organisation, NIDO, in his office, said the task of registering Nigerians at home was even herculean, stressing that the commission would not be able to register those in the diaspora for now. He said the commission would take steps to ensure that Nigerians in the diaspora voted during national elections in the future, adding: “INEC shall take necessary steps to ensure that you participate in future elections. It is difficult to say that by 2011 you will vote; for now, we cannot do that. At the moment it is difficult.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/08/04/nigerians-in-diaspora-cannot-vote-jega/ |

IBB, Atiku’s alliance crumbles over 2011 presidential ticket Written by Taiwo Adisa, Abuja Wednesday, 04 August 2010 A sharp disagreement appears to have crept into the alliance between former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar over who between them should fly the North’s flag in the 2011 presidential election. Information available to the Nigerian Tribune indicates that the two leaders have failed to reach an agreement on this issue after spending some time discussing the details of the issue. Sources confirmed, on Tuesday, that the duo of Babangida and Abubakar were unable to agree on who should step down for the other, if they succeeded in winning the zoning war in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Babangida and Abubakar had been at the forefront of the zoning campaign in recent weeks. They had held meetings where they insisted that the zoning policy of the PDP remained sacrosanct. Sources insisted that the relationship between the inner circles of the two leaders who are championing the zoning cause had not been that cordial, notwithstanding the public show of unity on the matter. While Abubakar was said to be flaunting his democratic credentials and the fact that he fought his former boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo, between 2005 and 2007, to strengthen democracy, he was said to be insisting that such qualities should stand him out in 2011. A source monitoring the developments quoted Abubakar as having insisted that his stance against the third term agenda of the Obasanjo administration showed him as a veritable democrat far above the credentials being flaunted by Babangida. “There is the belief in Atiku’s camp that Babangida should not be seen in the forefront of a democratic contest because of the indelible dent of annulment of the June 12,1993, presidential election which he cannot wish away. “The belief is that Atiku should be supported as the candidate with the appealing democratic credentials from the North right now,” a source said. The source, however, added that Babangida believed he had the best political experience to handle Nigeria at this time and that he should be supported by former Vice-President Abu-bakar to run the 2011 race. “In IBB’s camp, the belief is that being a former leader, he should have the chance of first refusal and Atiku should advert his mind to that reality. “But for now, they are patching up the public image of the zoning war until it is the right time to neutralise the other. I think they want to first fight a common enemy before going fully for each other’s jugular,” the source stated. However, the spokesman for Atiku Campaign Organisation, Mallam Garba Shehu, on Tuesday, said the two leaders had not experienced sharp disagreements on the zoning battle. Shehu, in a telephone conversation, said “the situation has not even arisen. So how can there be a disagreement on a situation that is yet to arise?” Meanwhile, the camp of President Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday, insisted on the need to emphasise Nigeria’s unity above sectional interests. Jonathan, speaking through his Senior Special Assistant, Research and Strategy, Mr Oronto Douglas, said he would not preside over a divided Nigeria. http://www.tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/9194-ibb-atikus-alliance-crumbles-over-2011-presidential-ticket |
9jaganja:Sharap dia! Your king is a Bini man. If not for the British, at death his body would have been taken to Benin for burial (thats a hint as to why they were referred to as Eleko, until the British came). . . .Hate me more! ![]() Yeah, a lot of it was a windup for not recognising Egun people. ![]() |

As for "nothing left about Benin", go to Iga Iduganran and observe the rituals and songs carefully. |

joefazee:Every single reason above is pitiable and false. Just another religious rant. @friendehis I would advise you to pick C# over VB.NET, because the Worldwide support for VB.NET is dwindling fast. You will also find that the vast majority of .NET tutorials on the net are written in C#. There is nothing that stops you from coding for a Word wide market from your bedroom in Nigeria, so do not limit your thinking to "this part of the World". For now, learn, grow and good luck. |
Abagworo:Bang on the money bro! It is also important to point out that, the last rulers of Lagos /Eko and Bagagry whose bodies were brought to Benin City for burial, were those that immediately preceeded the British Occupation of Lagos in 1850. When Akintoye died, the British authorities refused the body to be taken to Benin City for burial on the ground that Lagos was now a BRITISH TERRITORY. To support their arguement, they forced OBA DOSUMU of Lagos to sign the article of ANNEXATION OF LAGOS as belonging to Britain in 1861.http://www.greatbenin.org/Iyi_Eweka.html |
Nigeria has never had a well spoken leader (as far as the 2ndry English language is concerned). I don't see the relevance of this topic. |
