You don't understand anything in Yoruba world seriously. These people are not united by Language but by History. Egba people don't speak mainstream Yoruba does that mean they are not Yoruba? Their Language is hard to understand because it has just little similarity to mainstream Yoruba. But they can speak Yoruba easily. Look I don't want to argue with you about a people I know first hand and have as members of my family with you. You don't sound like someone that do biz on West African coast. You are too busy with NL to be that!! there are people of common historical origin and creationist myth with your mainstream Yoruba people. Yoruba is mainstream. If you want to know the people, search by sub-tribe and try to know someone from each sub tribe. Yoruba is just a simple collective name.

Your analogy for the first quote is wrong. Oyo ruled many other parts of Yoruba land that broke away. Does that mean they are not in Yoruba land? It goes both ways and if it can go both ways, then it's false!!! So you analogy makes your argument false!!!
Your arguments are just getting more and more ridiculous and unbelievable! Are you too stup!d to educate yourself or you think foolishness is a pride? shocked shocked shocked
There is more than enough scholarly information out there for you to read, instead of regurgitating this beer palour hogwash.

The Fon language spoken in Badagry is a totally different language from Yoruba, various dialects of Fon are spoken from Badagry area through Togo and Ghana and into Ivory Coast, but I feel I'm arguing with a fool here who is more interested in "my friend said" stories. Educate yourself, its easy and makes you look less silly in public.

Pick up your history and geography book and read.
. . .And Britain governed Nigeria, therefore Nigeria is in England? cry cry cry

Egun people I know in Badagary speak a Language anyone who understand Yoruba can understand. Even when they converse amongst themselves, I can understand it a little and be able to pick the main points. I'm sure if I understand core Yoruba I will understand it. My uncle's Wife is from Badagry and when she speaks her Language I can pick a little from it. And she speaks real Yoruba that I understand too. That is from a primary source Beaf. I won't take your wiki pastes!!
What would you say Ogbaglee  means in Yoruba?

Maybe you just aren't being observant? I spent a lot of time doing business along the West African coast, that is how I know so much about the area. Egun people speak a Fon (or Gbe) dialect, when you drive along the WA coast, you'll find more similarities to the Egun with the people in Benin Republic than with those in Nigeria. Names like Kaklo and Aflao sound more like Ogbaglee than any Nigerian areas.

I don't like hearsay. You can google the suggestions I made to convince yourself or not. You will find a wealth of information that makes your position a nonesense. No amount of dreaming will make Fon people Yoruba.

Beaf said Egun people are not Yoruba. How did you arrive at that? I can totally understand their Language even though I speak and understand just little Yoruba which I can communicate with. I don't speak Egun but I understand their dialect because I understand little Yoruba. I don't speak Ekiti or Ijebu dialects but I understand these dialects because I understand little Yoruba. You are totally wrong on that notion. Yoruba people are diverse even in dialect. I think you said that because you want to prove a point on why Lagos should be divided (what a retarded notion by the way). Lagos was meant for 1million people and 6mil at most. But mass migration to Lagos wasn't expected. How about dividing your compound?
Egun language is the same language spoken at Seme and Cotounou in Benin Republic. The people generally speak Yoruba as a 3rd language, that is why you can converse with them in Yoruba. But their own language is called Gun-be; which has the dialects Seto, Whla, Toli, Ajahuwe, Thevi, and Wheme. None of which sounds even remotely Yoruba.

Even the name, Badagry should offer clues, it doesn't sound like Youruba does it? You will be surprised to find that the real name of badagry is Gbagle (short form of Ogbaglee).

Look up Fon and Gbe languages on google.

asha 80:
Where did beaf say he wanted lagos to divide huh

State creation has not solved any problems in Nigeria - it has simply enriched a few while the so called 'development' is still far away from the grass roots.

There is absolutely no need for creation of a new state, the current administrative structure of the state can meet the developmental needs of the state.

Besides, the creation of another state will do nothing to stem the loss of green space.

With regards to Beaf's statement about merging, this will not do any good. The other states around Lagos are not financially viable either (except maybe Ondo) so merging will simply compound the problem, not improve it.

It is unrealistic to expect states to stop collecting resources from the center - the aspiration is to reduce this dependence to a minimum.
There is no area that cannot be made financially viable. Necessity, they say, is the mother of invention.
Considering the hugely expensive and wasteful bureaucracies run by each state, it would be much better economic sense to have fewer states. Let them merge their resources.

With larger states, the delivery of services by LG's will increase in importance and acheive the goal of bringing govt closer to the people (which is the chief argument put forward by who want more states).

Thank you. If this sort of treatment has been meted out to any of the states Beaf is advocating that Lagos should merge with, that state would have become bankrupt.
There are a handfull of states that would not go bankrupt in that situation, but that is no argument for the splitting of those states, rather, they should be merged with less productive states and collect zero from the center.

Obviously, you are not familiar with issues concerning Lagos. Though Lagos collects money from the centre, it does not completely rely on the centre to survive. Secondly, what state would you rather Lagos merge with? Lagos generates more money than all the states surrounding it and that makes that suggestion of yours untenable.
As long as it collects money from the center, it is reliant on other states; therefore, it should be merged with surrounding states to make economic sense. There will be much less duplication of jobs, ministries, much less senators and reps etc. It makes better sense to merge it with others than to split it.

Contrast this statement from the organisers

The organiser of the World’s largest cake project, Victor Oluwafemi, says he has tagged the project, ‘one meal one nation’, in line with the philosophy behind the project.

“The project is a private endeavour which myself and my team thought of. We wanted to do something significant for the 50th anniversary project. We wanted something that would give every Nigerian an opportunity to partake in the celebrations. We knew that the average Nigerian would not have the opportunity to eat the cake that will be presented in the villa,” Mr. Oluwafemi said to NEXT in Abuja.
With these from an NL contributor;

oyb: johnathan 'marie antoinete ' goodluck - " the poor are hungry and there are no jobs - no problem  - let them eat cake "
oyb: shey our govt no go bothch this attempt at wasting money the same way they have botched everything else?

see as we are dragging with sin city

apparently the cake is going to be distributed to every state

why wont lagos be underfunded and overcrowded when the whole of nigeria lives there?

let other states develop their areas more instead of making lagos the lone star state.
Lagos is underfunded, because like the rest of Nigeria, it does not create enough money. It has to rely on oil revenues from Abuja to survive. Why can't it survive on its own, is the question?
The problem of Lagos is the problem of all 36 Nigerian states; the country is structured wrongly. No state should fund another state. If a state cannot fund itself, it should be merged into a bigger unit. Lagos should be merged with the sorrounding states.

Egun people (non-Yoruba indegenes - Badagry area) and Ikorodu and Epe (Yoruba's) are crying that they are marginalised in Lagos, but they better stick with it.

We do not need new states, rather we need to implement true federalism. True federalism will bring in accountability and stop the so called "states" from going to Abuja on a monthly begging mission for money generated by other states.
Politics › Re: Interpol Investigates Yerima's Marriage To Minor by Beaf: 2:13pm On Aug 02, 2010
Mr Yerima, according to NAPTIP, was fully aware that the Egyptian law prevents union with minors as well as marriage between persons with more than 25 years age difference . Hence, he moved the venue of the marriage ceremony to Nigeria, where the enforcement of child rights regulation is seemingly lax. The father of the minor, Saleh Mohammed Eladly, who was paid a $100,000 dowry given to him by the Nigerian senator, was also accused of disguising his status to procure a visa into Nigeria for the marriage. “The senator not only held our law with disdain, but encouraged foreigners to break same,” the NAPTIP report says.
Why is this criminal buffoon who holds Nigerian laws in contempt still a senator? In fact he has stated quite clearly on several occassions, that he has no allegiance to Nigerian law, but is governed by his religion. Bullcrap! Who is he making laws for? I repeat, why is he still a senator?

He will not be able to bribe Interpol. Dem no de take "roger"! grin

This thread has been very interesting for active participants and silent observers (as myself) alike. However it has served its purpose and deserves to be laid to rest. It would be better to continue discussions about our sovereignty and differences as a nation in some other thread(s) dedicated to that purpose. Could the op and all those who 'fought' a good fight for what they believe(d) take a bow and a moderator (aisha2?) kindly close the curtain on this? Long live FRN.
The sad thing is that it has taken the threats of a foreign a foreign country to bring about the levels of civil discussion we have had here. Moving to another thread without another external focus, might only bring out the worst in NL as usual.

People ‘ll resist attempt to frustrate IBB out of PDP – Gov Aliyu
National News Aug 2, 2010 Share | By Wole Masadomi

Minna—Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Aliyu, weekend said the people of the state will resist any attempt to frustrate the former military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida out of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP .

Aliyu also cautioned the PDP against attempts to intimidate anyone over the zoning imbroglio threatening the party, adding that, “Nobody should be intimidated, because no one has come up to discuss issues about the zoning or how we can waggle out of it for us to move forward”.

Governor Aliyu who said this during a rally to mark his victory at the Supreme Court in Abuja over the weekend also expressed the resolve of the government and people of the state to support the presidential ambition of Babangida come 2011.

Governor Aliyu maintained that the choice of the state to support the Babangida’s presidential ambition was based on earlier agreement to allow the north have its own fair share of the Presidency for the period of eight years.
Aliyu said he will resist attempts to edge out Babangida from the party pointing out that, “We are supporting IBB because he is our son and since he is looking for the 2011 presidential ticket under the PDP we have no choice but to support him in actualizing his ambition”.

Though he is in support of IBB for the 2011 Presidency going by the earlier PDP arrangement on zoning, Governor Aliyu nevertheless said he is not against President Goodluck Jonathan contesting alongside Babangida on the platform of another political party.

“Whoever is the choice of God will eventually emerge winner, and no matter the pressure from other candidates from the northern extraction from other political parties. We will ensure that PDP has enough supporters to emerge victorious in 2011”.

Governor Aliyu recalled what led to the argument over Goodluck Jonathan contesting the Presidency, adding that, “the PDP arrangements on zoning should be respected. If for any reason it was discovered that the concept is no longer workable, all we need to do is to sit round the table and reviewed our earlier stand and move on so that nobody will be offended.

He said further, “Zoning or rotation of the Presidency is a PDP affair, now that the issue is generating a kind of confusion, it is left for the party caucus to sit on a round table and discuss on how to unravel the matter so that we can move forward

Politics › Ministers & Aides Can’t Be Automatic Delegates At Party Conventions by Beaf(op): 3:33am On Aug 02, 2010
Ministers, Aides Can’t be Automatic Delegates
•New electoral law also bars commissioners, governors’ aides
From Chuks Okocha in Abuja, 08.02.2010

Party Primaries

Ahead of the forthcoming state congresses and national convention of the various political parties to choose their presidential candidates for the 2011 election, the new electoral law passed by the National Assembly has barred ministers as well as aides of President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice-President Namadi Sambo from being automatic delegates at the convention.

Also barred in the proposed electoral law now waiting for the President’s assent are ambassadors and chairmen of boards of Federal corporations as well as commissioners, special advisers and assistants of state governors.

This provision has implications particularly in the Peopes Democratic Party (PDP) where there is already a move to whittle down the governors’ influence with the reduction in the number of their automatic delegates to the congresses and convention.
PDP Chairman Dr. Okwe-silieze Nwodo has always canvassed a drastic reduction in the number of automatic delegates, saying it gives governors undue advantage at the convention and primaries.

Some governors have formed the habit of appointing new special assistants and special advisers as well as commissioners during national convention and congresses, so as to convey on the appointees the status of automatic delegates.

According to Section 87 (d) ( 8 ) of the harmonized version of the new electoral law titled nomination of candidates for parties, “No political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate at the convention or congresses of any political party for the purpose of nomination of candidates for any election.”
Section 87 (d) (9) of the same electoral law prescribes non-inclusion of the candidate concerned for the election where a breach of the provision is established.
The section said, “Where a political party fails to comply with the provisions of this Act in the conduct of its primaries, its candidate for the election shall not be included in the election for the particular position in issue.”

If ministers, special advisers, commissioners and others barred as automatic delegates wish to attend the convention, they need to go and contest to win election as delegates.
This new electoral law when signed into law by the President would override the PDP constitution, which in Section 12.84 (c to i) lists automatic delegates to the national convention and state congresses of the party to include ministers, special advisers/assistants, chairmen of boards, commissioners, special advisers/ assistants to governors among others.
All members of the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly of any of the political parties shall, however, enjoy the status of automatic delegates as they are elected officials.

The PDP National Chairman said the provision for automatic delegates gives unequal advantage to candidates. He said before votes are cast at all, candidates who have large numbers of automatic delegates like the President and governors are already at advantage.
One of the main complaints of the PDP Reform Forum led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani and former Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Bello Masari is the unequal composition of the automatic delegates, which conveys special privileges to the president, vice-president and governors during the national convention and state congresses.

The new electoral law also ousts the powers of court from stopping the conventions and congresses of the parties for the purpose of choosing their candidates.
Section 87 (d) (10) of the harmonized law states: “Nothing in this section shall empower the courts to stop the holding of primaries or general election under this act pending the determination of the suit.”
