Ibori Petitions AGF Over Alleged EFCC Manhunt Tue Apr, 13 2010 https://www.thetimesofnigeria.com/TON/resources/images/Ibori1.jpg FORMER Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, has petitioned the Attorney General of the Federation over reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun a manhunt for him in connection with a petition on his transaction in the Ascot-Wilbros matter, which took place while he was in office. Despite the fact that the Delta State Government had cleared him, a report bySaturday Punch indicated that that the anti-graft agency has re-opened investigation into the matter and wants the former governor to appear to make a fresh statement. In a letter by his lawyers J.B. Daudu and Co. to the EFCC, copied the AGF, Ibori reminded the body of series of efforts to investigate him on various allegations, all of which had come to nothing and wondered what would have necessitated another effort. “It is a matter of public record and judicial decisions that you have on behalf of the Attorney General vigorously investigated every aspect of our client’s tenure as governor of Delta State and failed to find any crime committed inclusive of allegations of conspiracy, official corruption, diversion and misappropriation of public funds, stealing and money laundering for the period of 29th May 1999 to 29th May, 2007. “That the said investigation was predicated upon the instruction of the first respondent and the petition of various persons, including, but not limited to a group christened “Concerned Elders and Citizens of Delta State.” The said investigation covered among other issues the purchase of Wilbros by Ascot and the role of the applicant in respect thereof.” The petitioner also reminded the anti-graft body that the matter had been dismissed in court, for which the Commission, dissatisfied had gone on appeal in Benin, wondering why it would not subject itself to a process it had begun and allow it to run its full judicial course. In very simple term, elementary terms, Ibori’s lawyer said, “What your organization is doing by seeking to reinvestigate a matter you have already investigated and charged to court and for which the alleged offender has been discharged (which in this instance amounts to acquittal) amounts not only to complete infraction of the Nigerian Constitution but is a breach of our client’s fundamental human rights. “Nowhere in the world, except of course, in some notorious banana republics is the rule of law and constitutionality trampled upon so aggressively as you are doing in this instance.” Arguing that the commission should have done a thorough investigation on the matter before going to court to avoid running foul of the principle of double jeopardy, they regretted a situation where it had begun criminalising the former governor on the pages of newspapers without any formal invitation to clear his name. The letter, signed by J.B. Dauda (SAN), threatened to head to court to seek judicial redress should any attempt be made by the EFCC “merely because you control the coercive forces” to interfere with Ibori’s liberty. Daily Independent had reported of an alleged concerted pressure from both Ibori’s traducers in his state, championed by Chief Edwin Clark and the Presidency with the full knowledge of Acting President, Goodluck Jonathan on the EFCC to cage the former governor ahead of 2011 elections. http://www.thetimesofnigeria.com/Article.aspx?id=2544 |

The man is guilty of both attempted sodomy, homesexuality and paedophelia. Jail awaits. Homesexuality is a crime in Nigeria. I wish there was a better way of dealing with it than criminalising it, maybe try something similar to the Iranian approach of surgical treatment? |
mikeansy:True, but their wish has turned sour since the suspects were injured by the bomb. Mission failed. Its a good thing both suspects are alive; they will tell us were they got the bomb from. ![]() |
Jonathan is a man that keeps his moves close to his heart while smiling shyly. What he's said in very many words is that we have to wait until June to know how things will play. I wish he would just unceremoniously sack Iwu though! |

Uncle Joe, you no deh carry last! He looked so confident unlike his ![]() What a cooooooool breadth of air after so many months of primitive politics!. . . God punish Na'aba for saying Uncle Joe shouldn't have honoured Obama's invitation. Political jobbers like him don't realise just how embarrassing it was to us when Yar'Adua dodged his responsibilities of meeting Obama at a UN surmit, prefering instead to open a Saudi uni (even though, at the time 9ja ones had been closed for months, due to ASUU strike). Uncle Joe carry go! Make us proud! We are watching your enemies at home! ![]() |
Jonathan approves further foreign treatment for Yar’Adua –Investigation By Everest Onyewuchi and Fidelis Soriwei, Abuja, Published: Saturday, 10 Apr 2010 Forty-four days after President Umaru Yar‘Adua was brought back to the country in the cover of darkness, indication has emerged that the ailing president would be flown abroad again for further medical treatment. Yar‘Adua was hurriedly evacuated to Saudi Arabia on November 23 last year and was admitted to the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Jeddah. A few days later, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, issued a statement signed by the president‘s personal physician, Dr. Salisu Banye, saying that Yar‘Adua was suffering from ”acute pericarditis”, a covering of the heart membrane that impedes blood circulation. Just like he was secretly flown out, Yar‘Adua was flown back to Abuja in an air ambulance in the wee hours of February 24, two weeks after the House of Representatives and the Senate had passed resolutions on February 9 empowering the Vice President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, to assume office as Acting President. The National Assembly took the step because continued absence of the President was threatening to plunge the nation into serious constitutional crisis, particularly because he was held incommunicado by his wife, personal aides and kitchen cabinet. But Saturday Punch investigation revealed on Friday that Acting President Jonathan, who had since replaced the National Security Adviser, dissolved the Executive Council of the Federation, reconstituted it and sacked the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, was ready to approve that Yar‘Adua be flown abroad again for further treatment. A Presidency source said that Jonathan had also given the nod to the Yar‘Adua family to fly him to any country recommended by his doctors for comprehensive medical treatment whenever the need arose. The source said that Jonathan was willing to approve all necessary logistics for the President‘s medical trip abroad. “It will then be left for the President’s doctors and his family to decide whether they want to return him to Saudi Arabia or find another country where he will be able to receive the necessary medical attention,” the source said. It was revealed that Jonathan‘s gesture to his boss was contrary to speculations that the new cabinet he inaugurated at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Tuesday will soon invoke Section 144 of the Constitution to activate the process of removing the ailing president from office on the grounds of permanent incapacitation. It was further gathered that Jonathan‘s gesture was also meant to reassure the Yar‘Adua family who had adopted panicky measures in the last two weeks by inviting some Islamic and Christian clerics to visit and pray for the ailing president in his residence, a departure from their initial policy of making access to him impossible since November 23, 2009. The source told one of our correspondents that Jonathan would not move against Yar‘Adua because ”his motive for dissolving and reconstituting the cabinet was to deliver good governance to Nigerians.” The source added, ”You know the antecedents of Jonathan right from his days as Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Governor and his selection as running mate to Yar‘Adua in the 2007 election. ”The man is not desperate and he still sees Yar‘Adua as his boss and would be willing to hand over to the President whenever he recovers from his illness. ”The Acting President will not invoke Section 144 against Yar‘Adua. That is not the reason for dissolving and reconstituting the Federal Executive Council. ”In fact, he has approved that Yar‘Adua be taken outside the country for medical treatment and that he was willing to handover to him whenever he recovers.” The Acting President was quoted as saying that he was not desperate for political power as only the Almighty God has the ability to determine who will be entrusted with positions of authority and power. The Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ima Niboro, could not be reached to react to the revelation that Jonathan had approved further foreign medical trip for Yar‘Adua. Calls placed to his telephone lines rang out unpicked while an SMS message saying, ”Hello sir, my office needs to confirm a report that the Acting President has approved a plan to fly the President to a foreign hospital. Thank you,” sent to him by one of our correspondents, was not replied. http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201004101582182 |

morpheus24:My unreserved apologies about the other thread. I think the problem is much deeper than Malema or Zuma, the greater issue is one of impunity by supremacist Whites, who perceive themselves as untouchable because of the weak handed treatment given to those guilty of apartheid crimes. That weakness on the part of the SA govt has made it seem that Blacks are too scared to handle injustice firmly and judiciously. Malema is the attack point of the racists because he is seen as the weak link in their onslaught against the ANC machine. I am not saying it is correct, but the songs Malema sings, pretty much everyone else sings (even kids). As mentioned above, societal inequalities were handled with kid gloves, in an almost idealistic way after South Africa's independence. There was a truth commission that simply berated murderers; while no firm plans went the equitable redistribution of wealth and skills, very little punishment for the unbelievably evil crimes of apartheid were meted out. As far as race relations are concerned, the SA govt looks very weak. South Africa has the very same stresses on land ownership that exist in Zimbabwe, yet there are only token gestures at land redistribution. Surely, the South African govt is rich and skilled enough to put firm, long term plans in place toward equitable land ownership over a sensible period; but nothing concrete has been done. With all of the above, it is no surprise that there are White groups sprouting here and there that think they are untouchable. In present day South Africa, there are Whites only towns and enclaves or in the case of AWB, a separatist, Whites only town. There are all sorts of gruesome racial crimes that are treated with kid gloves even in the present day, for example, Scott-Crossley who fed his lions with a Black man was acquitted at some point; another claimed to have mistaken his worker for a baboon and shot him, he was sentenced to life on 5 counts of murder, then had the charges changed from murder to culpable homicide and the sentence reduced to 20 years. Several White farmers pay their workers below the minimum wage and treat them like slaves. Terre'Blanche was killed for not paying a monthly wage of 300 rand, but the average minimum wage in SA must be in the range of 1700 rand (not too sure of my figures, but not far off target). There is a lot of impunity and the resulting bottled rage. We see that rage erupt explosively out of the townships every now and again because their cry for justice and equity has gone unheeded. Terre'Blanche was a victim of such anger. The racial tensions in South Africa can be cured only if the govt bares its fangs and deals harshly with racial crimes, injustice, and wealth and land redistribution. As time goes by, punishments can be lessened, but right now SA needs a sledge hammer to instil discipline. That sledge hammer will crash heavily on White separatist enclaves and only then on "kill the boer" songs that are a mere reaction. |

Horus:The issue of land rights is one that unites South Africa and Zimbabwe. It is a very touchy issue for the ANC and both countries and any journalist should have enough sense to be tactful about those issues. Fhemmmy:419 became common place during IBB's regime because, his time was a corruption free for all. That was when people could use CBN letterheads for fraud. |
Sagamite:To anybody with an ounce of sense, you have been faced with the strongest level of accusation; the sort that might even necessitate legal action if you are innocent, but there you are laughing your head off like a fool. You have sided the White supremacist BNP and mouthed their mantra here. Forget the childishness above and address the accusations of racism I have levelled against you. It is a challenge. Simple question; are you a racist BNP implant on NL? Why can't you answer? Why waxing foolish? |
