Beaf,
you can't get a loan without a good credit rating. Getting loan is an expression of confidence.
Sanusi has established an atmosphere of transparency in nigerian financial services industry, which hitherto had been opaque.
The problem with nigerians is that we prefer 'laissez faire' attitude Soludo adopted with the bankers. But, it usually comes consequences.
Those banks already had a good credit rating before Sanusi popped up. In fact, their reckoning would have dropped a bit with the advent of Sanusi (like the rest of our banking system).

citizenY:
Beaf

I thought banking is all about borrowing and lending? Thereafter everyone derives a benefit
and witnesses an increase in fortune and wellbeing, if all works out well. Is that not the advancement
we all want.

If some people in the process do abracadabra and corner the money as my auntie dem do, breaking all
the rules and breaking the bank in the process and somebody blow whistle, who is to blame?

If some people no want the man to blow whistle, wetin we go call dem now?
Sanusi should have prosecuted crime where it was found, instead, he declared crimes before they were found and some of his actions have already been reversed by law courts. Among other things, he went a long way to destroying the faith foreign investors had in our economy by breaking a fundamental banking code, bank-client confidentiality, by publishing a list of debtors. It was all the more heightened when the list turned out to be wildly inaccurate, giving the unacceptable impression that the CBN is incompetent.

edoyad:
Like seun said the mistake the Yaradua govt made was turning one of the players into a referee, that even goes against the spirit of best practice and corporate governance that he Sanusi preaches.
That being said i feel no pity for those thieving CEOs, i only pity the workers who were laid off and have to start from scratch again. The consolidation that was supposed to make credit facilities more accessible to Nigerians never materialised but just ended up being a tool for Billionaires to make more billions.
That should have been Sanusi's 100% focus, instead of wrecking confidence in the banking system, spreading rumours and making borrowing money seem like a criminal action. A lot of people go on about collateral, but modern banking is about confidence and trust; in any event, collateral is not written into law.
u are not seriously asking me that question are u

why did Bear stearns,AIG and other banks collapse in 2009?

because they couldnt get any loans(short or long term),how did Goldman sachs survive
cause warren buffet stepped up with a vote of confidence in the management and provided $10billion when it mattered

the ability of a bank to attract capital is very important, its ratings if poor and such can push up its cost of funds
leading to insolvency

the point is the EIB(a very reputable bank by the way),would never have advanced any loans to either Oceanic or Intercontinental
i doubt if any bank or Financial institution in the world would have done so

due to the poor corporate governance issues. .and eroded capital

your inability to understand this simple Fact is a shame
in the advanced world,if u cant make it u go bankrupt
and if u decide to get bailed out, then u dance to the Govt tune

u cant have it both ways
Yes I am. You have a big problem when it comes to critical thinking, you always want to drop names and pluck arguments from thin air; at the same time as being rude.
First of all, understand the issue at hand before jumping in an firing your mouth in ways that make you look like you aren't smart.

None of the bank's in the story you posted were affected by Sanusi's agbero tactics, yet you somehow posted them as proof. You see how far off point you are?
Those banks would have been able to get loans anyday and anywhere.

I will address others posing sensible counter arguments to mine (eg citizenY, idiopathic and Edoyad). You don't know what you are talking about.

well done,
Abeg wetin be ''blossoming sophistication''.?
Is it the samething with what my aunt and uncle dem do for Oceanic and Interconti?
Thank you.
It is the developing of financial instruments that are as good as raw cash. In the modern World, trade is no longer brick and morter and raw cash; trust, ideas, methods, techniques, positions, confidence etc are marketable. We were beginning to build true financial insitutions; if any of the CEO's was corrupt, why couldn't Sanusi deal directly with the corruption, instead of marauding like a bull in a China shop? That man has single handedly taken us back at least a decade.

For him, banking is all about raw cash, trust and instruments are criminal to him. But then, what do you expect from a bushman?

The thing is Nigerians are not blind. Each time there is one of the regular pogroms up North, it is the Hausa/Fulani that go around killing Southerners. It isn't Gwari or Angas or any of the other Northern ethnicities. It is strictly Hausa/Fulani. Call a spade, a spade! Those people don't value life.

If you don't want the tag, talk to your brothers and sisters to stop their evil behaviour.

PapaBrowne:
Idiopathic, your position is understandable especially when viewed from the fact that your are judging based on the limited information available to you.If you had much more information and real data on the true condition of the banks before and after Sanusi's actions, you, being a reasonable and brilliant fellow, you would judge differently.

I would just pose one question to you.
The economic crises started in Nigeria in January of 2008(stock price crash) and accelerated in October 2008(Oil price fall).
How come for over a year after up until August 2009, banks were still able to pay huge salaries, meet up with depositors demands, build more branches, pay dividends, etc and yet they did not collapse.
How come Sanusi tells us they were about to collapse when there were no signs of such??
They had problems like every other bank worldwide did, no doubt. But they surely weren't about to collapse
Always ask questions. Don't just swallow hook, line and sinker every thing you hear.
They don't realise that modern economics is hinged more on human behaviour (especially in brand confidence) than in ready cash supplies. But I believe Sanusi's remit was to make Nigeria more willing to take on sharia banking by killing any blossoming sophistication in the Nigerian market. We are now back in pre-history.
Politics › Re: Sanusi Is A Sadist And A Thief Looking For Investment He Can Steal. by Beaf: 2:12pm On Feb 11, 2010
Sanusi will be freed to go lecture in sharia where his agbero behaviour would be most welcome. He will soon learn that CBN is not Ojota motor park.

bleeping naughty person. You're exactly what you called yourself, beaf abi na BEEF, bloody animal.

Where did I say 'Edo and Delta' are Yoruba? Who wants Edo and Delta in Oduduwa Republic?
All I know is, millions of people in Edo and Delta bear Yoruba names, they speak fluent Yoruba and they understand Yoruba cultures (the prerequisite to be called Yoruba).
In case you wasn't born then, let me teach you history. Edo and Delta were part of the Western region before we Yoruba granted them their own region. They were not needed then and they will not be needed now.

Politics › Re: What Immediate Action Do You Expect From Jonathan? by Beaf: 12:58pm On Feb 10, 2010
I expect him to begin the process of setting Nigeria on the right path by kicking off the federal restructuring process and kicking all cabals into oblivion.

Because of the unique way he has risen to power (almost like destiny or an act of God), there is nobody better suited for the building job than he is. He owes no political machine, so his hands are totally free to slash and burn.
He must hist the ground running to gain credibility (although anybody is better than Yar Adua). If Jonathan let's us down, we might have to wait a very long time (or precide over a messy split). He has to perform.

What is your problem with Egun people? Are an Egun man?
Listen Oponu Ode. You can not determine anybody ethnic group for them, the reason some Delta Ibos denied not being an Ibo. If Egun in Lagos says they are Yoruba who are you say they are not. If Ijaw, Itsekeri, Awori, Urobho say their ancestors come from Yoruba, hence they are part of Yoruba who are you to say they are not? If the Bini people say they are part of omo Oduduwa who are you to say they are not?
Egun people will never be Yoruba, because they speak Fon. You are only displaying your ignorance by claiming that they are descended from you people, but na so ignorant tribal chauvinist know nothings deh behave, so nutin spoil.

A ma 'rogo O! So nobody can claim Lagos? Are you are warrior or a colonialist who come all the way from thousands miles where you were born to come to Lagos and say this land those belongs to anybody? Abi which kind trouble be this?
Okay, does anyone/tribe owns Kano or Kadunna? Does anyone owns Aba, Enugu, Owerri, Portharcourt, Asaba, Benin and can any Yoruba go to any of these places and says anybody owns them?

My advice to those of you who have established yourself in Lagos- those who can speak Yoruba language very well and have integrated well among the Yorubas, therefore afraid or ashamed to go back home- is to just declare yourself a Yorubaman/woman through naturalization and give allegience to Yoruba causes.
grin
So, who are the only ethnic group in Lagos and how do you define ethnic group?
Language, culture, custom abi na by number of shops you've got in the city or through number of immigrants?
I will at least abuse you in Yoruba so you can understand. Ode! grin
What do you call Egun people? Are they not indegenous to lagos? Or minorities just don't count to you?
Before you make any ignorant argument, Egun is a sub-group of Fon language and Gbagle (Badagry) was founded in the 15th century (at a point in time when Eko was a part of Benin Kingdom). Egun people are not Yoruba.

Politics › Drama Over, Now Yar Adua's Exact State Of Health Must Be Made Public by Beaf(op): 3:04am On Feb 10, 2010
I wish President Umaru Musa Yar Adua a speedy and complete recovery, we must however accept that the affairs of the country cannot be dependent on one mans health.
Jonathan Goodluck must, as a matter of priority, set up a commmitee to immediately ascertain the health status of Umaru Musa Yar Adua.
We need to know if he is dead or alive. If he is alive we need to know if he is capable of voluntary movement. If he is capable of voluntary movement, we need to know the exact state of his mental health.

We need to know if Yar Adua was capable of studying a 300 page budget document. Equally important, we would like to know if he could actually muster the strength to sign each of those 300 pages.

We also need to understand the curious BBC phone call and balance it against the lack of an Xmas or new year message from Mr. President. The veracity of the BBC call needs to be proven and balanced against the astonishing lack of communication in the aftermath of the ugly Mutallab episode, as well as the Jos and Kalo Kato disturbances.

We would need to see a video showing signs of life in a person that can be proven beyond reasonable doubt to be the same as our President, Umaru Musa Yar Adua. This will help clear doubts about a story of his death on 10th December 2009, as reported by the American Chronicle.
Such a video will also go a long way to settle the troubling argument about how long Yar Adua disappeared for. Was it 79 day's or was it really 17 (if the story carried by the American Chronicle was accurate)?

. . .We just want answers. embarassed
