Etyguy: I strongly agree with Mr Speaker that our leaders in Niger Delta are not living up to their responsibilities, because the Nd ought to be better than it is today. but that is not to say that the Federal govt. shouldn't give them more money, but their should be a way in which the federal govt. should make the state to acount for the monies that they have collected so far as the state house of assemble has failed in that regard. Accountabilty is the crux of the issue. With the present top down structure of the country, it is impossible hold a state govt to task whithout FG involvement. Afterall, the FG gives the money and governors should be accountable to their source of money right? The country is set up wrong, it better suits a military dictatorship setup than a democratic one; it is a unitary system rather than a federation. We will never develop or have peace until it is corrected. Any other effort is applying bandage upon bandage. |

akigbemaru: Who owns this Niger Delta? Is it not this same Yoruba people? Let put aside the divide and conquer tactics of colonial rulers. You and I know the fact that Yoruba people inhabited the island called WESTERN REGION, and as you know two bosses cannot tug in the same boat. You could see our influence on everything in Western Region, even currently we own 82% of all the land on Western Region. Ijaws and others on western region know that they were all visitors who had adapted their selves into our cultural realm.
Then, to all the cave tribe called ibos. I don't know what is wrong with them with their obsessed kerfuffle with anything Yoruba or Oduduwa. Don't blame us, blame God who made you inferior to Yoruba tribe. We made you too! Your tribe used to be monkeys and could mumble any speech till our son "Bichop Samuel Ajayi Crowther" codified your ibo language for you. So, what do you do to show us your appreciation? The only thing you did was to eat all our MONKEYS in Idanre Hills. Also, trying to get credit for everything Yoruba culture produced to this world, anyway they whole world cannot be fooled. Go on youtube and type igbo culture or religion, you are probably going to see like 4,000 clips; but just Yoruba culture or religion it's over 10,000,000 clips I promise you and it's guaranteed. SEFAGO: This was quite interesting so I would jump in a bit:
That is a logical contradiction. You cannot believe in something and it doesn't exist- if you consider epistemological arguments- it is impossible for you not to know and to know. If you know something then it exists. If you don't it doesn't exist. What you are trying to say is you have never seen charms or you don't believe in charms- and that maybe charms don't exist. But then your belief was never justified if charms actually exist and so unjustified belief means no knowledge.
And someone mentioned something about quantum mechanics- which is a totally useless argument for proving anything. Beaf probably mentioned it to impress you guys, And I don't need math equations- I have taken a graduate class in quantum chemistry (500 level). For example, quantum theory claims time travel is possible is we go through forbidden regions through quantum tunneling, but time travel creates an ontological/predestination paradox. Like two classical examples 1) Tim can go back into time to kill his grandfather, but if he kills his grandfather he cannot exist, and if he does not exist he does not go back into time to kill his grandfather.
2) Or I go back into time, and give newton a torn copy of principia mathematica (Newton's treatise on calculus and physics) without the author's name on it. Newton decides to copy everything down, and make his own book called of course- Principia mathematica - the question become who discovered the equations of force and motion then.
I am just giving you guys an example of why science cannot always cohere all the time with logic. Not because science is wrong, but because science is built on probabilistic assumptions.
Long and short- This story is a big fat lie- the okada man just knocked an innocent woman down, mobilized his boys, they beat the woman for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. helped you summarize the witch story. This story is also full of contradictions- why, if she could turn into a cat not do so again front of people to escape? Is her only power a cat? if she could kill people- why was she allowing herself to get beaten up? Man anytime I am on Nairaland, and hear what ppl say, I just keep playing this song in my head :Zombie oh Zombie, Zombie, Zombie way go follow anyone If you noticed, those in the opposing camp aren't arguing the veracity of the story (like you, we weren't there). We are talking about the possibility of paranormal phenomena to occur. Let's keep to honesty and not twist things. Your argument is a shocking pile of rubbish. What have your stories of "Tim" got to do with either proving or disproving any viewpoint? Strange. If "science cannot always cohere all the time with logic", what comes closer? Your illogical and unproven word? If you "don't need math equations", to prove a point logically, aren't you subscribing to hocus pocus? Funny guy! There is nothing on Earth (or elsewhere) that cannot be reduced to mathematics. 2 and 2 is always 4, whether physically or spiritually. Don't make yourself look ridiculous. |

I hear this a lot from Nigerians who say that people outside the country complain about how bad Nigeria is without doing their part to make it better. He is doing exactly what needs to done which is voicing his opinion and distaste against what is happening to his people (and hopefully voting as well). we cannot all be politicians and militants. Revolutions were begun with words and you have to give him credit, he has been consistent. You yourself live outside the country and i'm sure you make complaints about the situation in the country, so the question is what have you done to improve the situation in Nigeria? And please no fabrications. That was uncalled for. I don't know what you take yourself to be that makes you so conceited and unnecessarily abusive, but you need a check; step back and view yourself. ^It happens everywhere but Nigeria. It is at the root of why we don't develop and why there is so much corruption. Politicians just love to be in the thick of lots of dosh that is why; rather than have the country collect taxes (which civil servants are in charge of), the FG owns the oil wells and all the land they are situated on. Oil money is easy to make govt; simply acquires the land, gets shell or chevron to ship in the equipment and then they signs documents giving the FG 60% ownership . After which money starts flowing. No effort. Its so easy and volumes of money so high that we have lost interest in our cocao, tin, rubber, oil palm, gold, uranium, semi-precious stones etc. Most gruesome is that we have lost interest in the human as a resource (unlike Japan for instance). The system of govt is directly related to our under development and high levels of corruption. Heaps of easy money governed by a single non competing body (FG) = corruption = mental decay = physical decay = perennial underdevelopment, poverty and squalor. |

bidemi12: I don tell una. na poverty de dictate this superstituous rant. Halloween is around. It is a day which includes trick-or-treating, wearing costumes and attending costume parties, ghost tours, bonfires, visiting haunted structures. It is a day that most americans play out their weirdest fantasies in the occult. e.g werewolves, vampires, ghosts, bigfoot etc. But after that day you do not see them going about claiming that they saw a vampire sucking on a person's neck. Also if the military as you claim have invested heavily in the occult why are they still buying/building jets, building more nuclear bombs and whatnot. Why are our soldiers still wearing bullet proof vests when we could be wearing cowrie shells. Why are we still using planes for transport when we can easily lift one leg and 'voila we are in our proposed destination. Look, lets face, Jesus!!! trying to convince you people is begining to give me a migraine. i better leave it here. i dont want to be hospitalized. Do you know how a nuclear weapon works? You speak of Lagos, and I know for sure as the development has yet to reach my area of the state but considering the fact that many (actually human beings) have been positively impacted by the chances, would it be farfetched for one to expect more in the case of a state, any deltan state with almost 1/8th of the population Lagos boasts of? You claim some of the governors are working, then if you do not mind, answer the questions that @beaf seems to be having a hard time tackling then. What have they to show for it considering they do not even have one 8th of the population burden Lagos has to deal with and yet it has been able to achieve a lot in just one year with less in allocation. And is Niger Delta now in the bible? Why can't people like you drop bias and be a bit logical? Instead of asking toddler questions, why does your mind not touch Nigeria's federal structure? The question of Nigeria's federal structure makes the following pertinent: What does your state contribute to the FG? |

@Topic
Bankole made a point but he leads one of the groups that is Nigeria's biggest problem. He constituted a power probe committee only to back down when some powerful forces did some behind-the-scene abracadabra.
He is advising the people of the Niger delta to hold their leaders accountable. How many times in our history as a nation hv d people been able to hold their leaders accountable? How many people can protest against the government without the police forcefully dispersing them? Why grant the so-called corrupt ND governors immunity while serving and protect them with court injunctions and supposed rule of law when they are out of office? How many corrupt federal government officials have the house of rep under Bankole been able to investigate, indict and push for their prosecution?
Bankole is only playing politics. Politicians will always come out to garner support by way of pretending to say the truth.
Bankole referred to Lagos as an example of a state with good governance. Why didnt he refer to any PDP governed state. Same Bankole will lead the PDP campaign train to attempt to rig the performing Lagos state governor out of office come 2011.

Bariga1: Hello Beaf,
I think the problem here is so much anger in you and need someone to vent it at. I have now passed that stage in my struggle and have now decided to take the “bull by the horn”. I think it is a waist of time waiting for government to “wave the magic wonder”.
Beaf, where is Abacha? And where is Ibori? Let us move-on and stop “throwing toys out of the pram”.
Elections were not free and fear, but do not forget the vital point: Abacha never came down to rig the elections in ND, someone on ground did his dirty work for him and nothing is said about that person(s), that person(s) live among your community, drive the best cars and they are worshipped by their neighbours b/c of greed.
I know if I ask you the allocation received by your local government you will go silent on me, you will not know and do not bother because you have no interest. Rather people will blame government.
Help your people in the little way you can: advice them to ask questions from their political leaders in the community abstain from greed and the future will be brighter for you and me.
Do you think that Mend is fighting for your future development or that of ND?
Youngman wakeup from your slumber and start being proactive by educating your family back home: asking questions is the key. That is the little you can do and it will go a long way. One simple question; what does your state produce?Nothing or so little it cannot survive without the ND? You are asking the wrong questions, you educate your own family first and then ask your leaders why your state produces close to zero. Also ask yourself what your opinion is of almajiri's and if you are proud that your state might be one. After you are done providing honest answers to those questions you will begin to grasp the meat of ND issues (because they are fundamental 9ja issues). |
