The country is in deep trouble. Life is brutish for the poor. Forget about credit, we don't have that only because there are no financial instruments or instituitions. Everything is in chaos. Manageable credit is a very enabling thing. As for our poverty index. . . It is bloody shocking! Confusion, chaos, wikedness, corruption, theft. . . Yeah, life is cheap in 9ja.

Curiously, Tompolo refused to sign the amnesty denunciation form for repentant militants when he met with the President in Abuja. In place of the form, the militant leader signed a document he had prepared and brought from his Oporoza base on his own letterhead. His people always maintained that he would never accept the "amnesty", so it aint surprising that he took his own proclamation for signing. ![]() Tompolo is a very decent and reliable guy. |
It really depends on your target market. Either choose the right tool for the job at hand or target a market that fits the tool you have expertise in. Here's some general advice: If you are building home pages and other small stuff, scripting languages like Ruby and PHP, MySql, text files, MS Access are fine. If your development is targeted at run off the mill, bog standard enterprise websites; java is ok if your target market is a bit hampered by cost. C++ is a mismatch for the web, don't go there. For the top range web market, nothing out there can touch ASP.NET for a blend of raw power and rapid development; this includes highly scalable banking and transactional websites, massively multiplayer gaming sites etc. For database servers; the most popular are MSSql Server and MySql. MSSql Server beats MySql by a very wide margin; but Oracle is by far the best performer (also, the most complicated). There are other database server types like DB2 and PostgreSQL, you can simply walk past these ones; don't waste your time. Whatever you do in life, never target the PHP/MySql combination on high traffic, always available sites that must scale; or you will shed many bitter tears. ![]() |

This is why MEND was able to send them the crocodiles in 20's and 30's, until they offered amnesty. Wretched country. If all the people of the Niger Delta revoke citizenship, will that amount to secession? I'm just wondering at a govt that can wilfully bomb its own people when they are gathered at a festival. ![]() Or a govt where it can be mentioned that all Niger Delta people should be wiped out. Even Nazi Germany didn't wipe out 20 million Jews. There is much to think about our country and hang our heads in shame. |
@df2006 That is so true my brother. MEND has also stated several times that they are moving toward much more sophisticated warfare and that they will march the govt in weapons sophistication. We hear that, in some of the most recent attacks, some oil wells were indeed destroyed remotely. JTF captured a MEND drone at one time, although MEND denied, claiming it was just a toy aeroplane. It will not be fun and games in the future if the govt continues its disgraceful behaviour. We pray for peace. |
Tompolo, whose gunmen were behind many of the attacks against Nigeria's oil industry, handed over rocket launchers, machine guns and explosives to Defense Minister Godwin Abbe at a ceremony in his camp in Oporoza in the creeks of Delta state. Tompolo was short of words during most of the hand over, able to utter only "all is well, all is well" to the crowd before bursting into tears.http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSTRE5930U420091004?sp=true Let us pray that the govt is sincere, because the next round of violence will surely engulf the nation. The whole of the Niger Delta is behind MEND. We pray for peace. |
Isn't this matter in court? This investigation might prejudice the court decision, but I'm a layman, so I could be wrong. |

Ibime:Back up your statements on my position with quotations or admit that you are either putting words in my mouth or taking things out of context or plucking words from thin air. All are dishonest. And when you quote me, please do it in the context of this article (no sly derailing). Otherwise, stick firmly to the issues raised in the article (none of which you have attempted to address). Logic? |
Ibime:If anything, you are the idiot. I saw the error in Sanusi's gragra right from the start. But of course, there were the usual paid up folk dishing out abuse and nonsense in the face of superior logic. I always held that Sanusi's methods would cost the economy. . . Banks aint lending even a miserable kobo now are they? Our spastic manufacturing sector has been ambushed and strangled, perhaps fatally. . . Forget about the oil sector. And you're talking about "delection", is there no due process to deal with corruption or when did agbero methods become the norm? The effects of Sanusi's ill advised tactics of criminalising lendeing and borrowing is reverbrating through the economy right now. Only idiots aren't aware. |
. . .Blind people, have a habit of hauling abuse instead of logic. It was at the meeting before the mission to Saudi Arabia, that a distraught President was said to have directed the authorities of the State Security Services (SSS) to return all the passports of the bank chiefs, which the EFCC had seized in the course of the exercise, including those that were on the watch-list from the 14 banks, whose fate had not been determined. |
This might be the first sign that Sanusi's empire is falling. . . Banks Audit: How Yar'Adua Defused Tension From Martins Oloja (Abuja Bureau Chief) INDICATIONS emerged from Aso Rock that President Umaru Yar'Adua had intervened in the 'policy support instrument' that has defused tension in the second phase of the banking reform unveiled on Friday. The President was reportedly persuaded that the first phase of the bank audit created some avoidable noise, controversy and criticisms. Specifically, The Guardian confirmed that on the day the President left for Saudi Arabia, he had directed three principal officers - the Finance Minister, the Chief Economic Adviser and Director-General of an Internal Security Organisation - to ensure that the Central Bank Governor, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and the Chairman of the EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, were more temperate, legalistic and less noisy in handling the ongoing reforms in the banking sector. The reform has culminated in the release of the result of the second and final phase of the bank audit, with bank managing directors and executive directors removed on Friday in another gale of sanitisation. This development came about when some CBN top officials denied the involvement of the Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Michael Aondoakaa and the Chief Economic Adviser, Mr. Tanimu Yakubu in the scrutiny of the audit report that was announced, as we had claimed on Friday. A top official in the apex bank Governor's office had called the Abuja Bureau of The Guardian on Friday and said: "We take exception to the report that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and the Chief Economic Adviser's role in the scrutiny might delay the release of the report. "Note that they have had no role to play in all this and we will release the report today," the official said. The report was released that same Friday, but it was not clear whether there was a nexus between the release and the exclusive claim in the paper that the President had directed the Chief Aondoakaa and Mr. Yakubu to be part of the scrutiny team. But it was confirmed that the quiet disposition and the diplomatic language used in the release of the report on Friday was largely influenced by the presidential insistence that the exercise should be devoid of flashpoint that had threatened to take the steam out of the banking reform during the first phase. The President, said to have handed down this directive inside the State House before he left for Saudi Arabia the upper week, expressed displeasure about the "noise and controversy" that the exercise had generated because of the methods adopted by the CBN and the EFCC, despite his approval of the exercise itself. He reportedly told the Finance Minister, the Chief Economic Adviser and the Director-General of the State Security Services, who were with him when he handed down the order, that the noise and controversy that attended the exercise "were clearly unnecessary." A credible source close to the meeting, told journalists in Abuja that, "the President is a quiet operator, who does not enjoy the limelight that some people tried to enjoy while the noise lasted." "The President believes that the chief executives and the executive directors could still have been removed quietly without heating up the polity and the economy." The source continued: "It was believed that not too long ago, under another Sanusi Joseph, who was CBN Governor before Soludo, a number of clean-up operations was done including the seamless removal of Mr. Subomi Balogun, as chairman of First City Monument Bank' "And the licenses of Savanah Bank and Societe Generale Bank were thereafter withdrawn without too much noise. "So, the President ordered that they be temperate and more resourceful without demonising anyone including innocent ones during the exercise. He wants them to check their records and the law well before taking action." It was at the meeting before the mission to Saudi Arabia, that a distraught President was said to have directed the authorities of the State Security Services (SSS) to return all the passports of the bank chiefs, which the EFCC had seized in the course of the exercise, including those that were on the watch-list from the 14 banks, whose fate had not been determined. There were reports, that international passports of chief executives of four banks, whose fate were hanging in the balance, had been seized. The President was said to have ordered the return of the passports, as he described the action as "overzealous" on the part of the CBN and the EFCC, even when no case had been established against the bank chiefs. The Guardian confirmed, at the SSS Headquarters, that the passports had "been released to the owners on the order of the President." It was said that, "the President believes that the background of the CBN governor, as a radical, may have influenced his recent action variously criticised as overzealous, and the EFCC was affected by the 'radicalism' of the CBN governor, " MEANWHILE, even as the State House was being prepared to receive Tompolo yesterday, another source confirmed why the Amnesty Deal deadline was not extended. According to the source in the presidency, "the president, who presided over the meeting where the decision was taken on Tuesday, is of the opinion that there has been success, as only three major militant leaders at the time of the meeting (Tom, Dagogo and Tompolo) from the Rivers-Delta axis were still being expected to embrace the deal, and they can do that even after the expiration of the amnesty period as the doors are open any time, " The source said the consensus at the meeting was that "the new condition brought by Tompolo - that Ijaw and Itsekiri are armed and must be disarmed - must be rejected as majority of the militants have embraced the new deal, and shifting the goal post would not have made any difference in the circumstances, " The source at the meeting revealed that: "The president noted that there are two other critical phases in the agenda, namely, rehabilitation and integration, which should be pursued immediately, too. They are very critical to the president. Anybody can disarm any time. How can anyone be saying now that we should go to the root of the crisis in the Niger Delta before he can disarm?" This is a veiled reference to the demand of one of the three recalcitrant militants. The source concluded: "The president believes we should begin to set up structures for rehabilitation and integration of the ones that have surrendered and registered. So we should not be talking about extension that will be a huge distraction." Meanwhile, in the course of inquiry in the presidency at the weekend, it was discovered that the President's men were still quite worried about the (mis)management of the botched trip to New York for the UN General Assembly. But it was not clear whether the inquiry included why the Vice President was not dispatched to stand in for the President, who ostensibly prioritized the mission to Saudi Arabia ahead of global assignment in New York. It was gathered that in the course of the inquiry, even the Permanent Secretary in the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ambassador Joe Keshi, had been quizzed by Security and Intelligence agencies why the Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Maduekwe, who represented the President at the UN Assembly, was not guided to avoid comments on Nigeria's internal political affairs such as politics of INEC and its chairman. The ambassador was quoted to have said that, "the Minister was misquoted by the press on the issue." Maduakwe reportedly claimed that it would be surprising if Prof. Maurice Iwu were reappointed given the flawed nature of the 2007 elections he (Iwu) supervised. The comment was said to have irked the office of the President. The quiet inquiry is part of an ongoing operation by the presidency to determine the suitability of some members of the cabinet that has been adjudged below average. For instance, it was gathered that the way the Foreign Affairs Minister's men handled the recent visit of the American Secretary of State, Mrs. Hilary Clinton, which led to a situation whereby some US secret agents allegedly entered the bedroom of the Foreign Affairs Minister because they (Americans) failed to collaborate with the internal intelligence. And security authorities have come under scrutiny, too. Insiders say that the presidency is still smarting from another development during Clinton's visit including the fact that the US Embassy officials arranged a meeting with former heads of state without involving the presidency, a development that led former President Obasanjo to back out, although he was already in Abuja. As a corollary to this strategic inquiry, despite a recent denial by the presidential spokesman, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, some president's men are part of the very serious probe of many high profile ministers and officials of the presidency that may be shown the way out sooner than later. In the same vein, another source said that even the president's inner circle members were quite "concerned about lack of remarkable role for the Vice President even in the struggle for the soul of the Niger Delta militants." "But there is nothing anyone can do about it, The President cannot sack the Vice President. That is one of the officers he cannot sack because it is a joint mandate, " There have been hushed discussions in top circles in Abuja in recent times about the role or lack of it for the Vice President even in the affairs of his regional area - the South-South and the Niger Delta. In response to an inquiry about why there have not been roles for the number two citizen, to assist in state matters, including the alleged botched UN assignment, a source in the presidency said: "What is that? Would you recall that the Niger Delta schedule was first assigned to the office of the Vice President when there was to be a summit. Recall that the summit changed to a technical committee mysteriously. "You can see that the President has had to take the issue of amnesty as his own assignment. Even the management of the ruling party should naturally be in the office of the Vice President, But you should know better what has been happening to us, " The source did not say, however, the link between the general anomie in the VP's office and the lack of will in the office of the President to delegate the VP, who holds a doctorate degree, to represent Nigeria at the UN General Assembly instead of the Foreign Affairs Minister. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/news/article02/indexn2_html?pdate=041009&ptitle=Banks%20Audit:%20How%20Yar'Adua%20Defused%20Tension |
