HungerBAD:This is full details kahal29: 8:22pm South-East Governors on Saturday expressed shock over Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s choice of Peter Obi as his running mate for the 2019 presidential election. DAILY POST reports that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the zone took same stand. Their position was made known by the Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum and governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi. He, however, said that the Presidential candidate of the Party, Atiku will meet with South East leaders over the choice of his running mate. He announced this in Enugu while addressing journalists after emergency meeting of the PDP stakeholders in the South East. According to him, the meeting was to brainstorm on the various news making the rounds in the social media concerning purported choice of the former governor of Anambra state as Atiku’s running mate. He said both PDP governors in the zone and indeed other stakeholders were shocked over the news of a vice presidential slot given to Ndigbo whereas no former notice to that effect was given. Umahi revealed that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar sent in message during their meeting informing them that he was out of the country on a short period and pleaded with them to remain calm that he will be coming down to the zone to dialogue with leaders. “We saw news flying up and down saying that our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has picked a running mate from the zone. “We were shocked because we were not consulted. While we were meeting, Atiku sent message that he travelled out of the country for a short period. He promised to come down and meet with South East leaders,” he said. Similarly, the vice chairman of the PDP, in the South East zone, Augustine Umahi, echoed what the Ebonyi governor said, stressing that leaders of the party in the zone saw the news of Obi’s nomination as running mate in the social media. “Our leaders are saying that we are not yet aware that such a thing (Obi’s appointment) happened. “We have gotten in touch him (Atiku), he is traveling tonight and he promised that when comes back we shall meet in that. “Peter Obi is our son, and from South East, we are not rejecting or accepting him but we are saying is that we are not aware, you cannot shave a man in his absence,” he said. The meeting was attended by Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Okezie Ikpeazu and Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, others were members of the National Assembly from the zone and other major stakeholders. |

... "We shall have to create leaders who embody virtues we can respect, who have moral and ethical principles we can applaud with an enthusiasm that enables us to rally support for them based on confidence and trust. We will have to demand high standards and give consistent, loyal support to those who merit it" Martin Luther King, Jr.r June 11, 1967 After several months of disenchantment with the state of Nigerian politics, my enthusiasm was rekindled yesterday following the stepping on board of Mr. Peter Obi as a Vice Presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 General Elections. What happened yesterday is being interpreted from diverse view points and I must say that people have the right to their views ( but not to "their truth" . Some persons have narrowly hailed his selection as an ethnic victory for the Igbo. I find that very distasteful because it belies the substance of the matter.Others see Peter's nomination as a political masterstroke against the Ruling Party. Well, each one to his view but I find that to be vague except if substantiated. In Metaphysics it's misleading to take the symbol as the symbolized. There are many others who are enthused by Peter's nomination because they have listened to his public lectures and media appearances and they kind of resonate with his simple, pragmatic, consistent economic logic. They too are entitled to their own opinion. On a personal note, I have regained my enthusiasm in the political future of this country for the fact that in spite of high powered scheming, lobbying, nocturnal meetings; both for good and for bad, that gentleman Peter had those who stood for him, believed in him based on his antecedents, and chose him based on his track record. Every society reinforces it's values, ethos and public morality based on how it rewards and recognizes individuals whom it considers embodiment of preferred qualities and ideals. In doing that, such a society sends signal to its young populace that these are our ideals. In a country where shenanigans who cannot hold theirs in professional fields, whose public antecedents are distasteful and who competences are in doubt, are often the adorning faces in our Newspapers, the occupants of public offices and the VIP of our sacred places of worship. Such a country is equally instructing her youth on its "ideals", values and future goals. Mr. Peter Obi is a household name that does not need introduction. In this era of easy access to information, anyone can run a background check on him to know him more. The records are there! Again, on a personal note, yesterday was not the first, my friends and I who admire Peter had stood at the precipice of anxiety thinking whether excellence will be rewarded. On the eve of the Enugu Appeal court judgement in March 2006 that declared him winner of 2003 gubernatorial election in Anambra state anxiety was high. As young school boys preparing for WAEC then, my friends and I followed the judicial journey of Peter through the tortuous roads of Nigerian politics. He won and on March 16th 2016 he was sworn in. That single act of doggedness in pursuit of his mandate restored public confidence in our judicial system and paved way for similar judicial pronouncements against political impunity in Rivers, Ekiti, Ondo, Osun and Edo. In October 2016, same year he was impeached. Another battle between virtue and vices in Nigerian politics. On the eve of 28th of May 2007, we went to bed sad because the Supreme Court denied him the injunction he asked for to stop the swearing in of one who came to usurp his office. But 14 days later, the illegal occupant of his office was asked to leave by the Supreme Court. Again, virtue and Right Reason prevailed over vice and impunity. Following the PDP presidential primary last week and high political scheming and lobbying for who will be Atiku's VP. His track records, his proven competence stood him out. I must repeat that I respect the opinion of those who do not consider him their preferred candidate either for ethnic, political or even personal reasons. People are entitled to their views (though not "their truth). Peter's public conduct in the last 17 years he is been in Nigeria for public service has shown his consistency in character, competence in service, doggedness in what is right, civility in conduct, respect for those those who are opposed to him, visionary and realistic in his planning, penchant for excellence, PASSION FOR EDUCATION, allergic to wasteful spendings, uncomplicated in his Economics, etc. He is an Igbo, but I don't think he was chosen "just" because he is an Igbo. Besides, there are many other Igbos equally qualified. I don't also think that across the Niger there are no match for him in the position he is given. Of course there are! Certainly there are! I think that somehow in him has been found a certain crystalization of criteria sought for; a kind of good blend of past, present and future. I think in him is understood those immortal words of MLK Jr., "We shall have to create leaders who embody virtues we can respect, who have moral and ethical principles we can applaud with an enthusiasm that enables us to rally support for them based on confidence and trust. We will have to demand high standards and give consistent, loyal support to those who merit it".

Says Atiku has right to choose running mate By Dirisu Yakubu ABUJA- The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has denied the existence of a rift within its ranks over the choice of former Anambra state governor, Mr. Peter Obi as running mate of its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 general elections. Peter Gregory Obi Obi, a two-time governor of Anambra was on Friday picked by the former Vice President after a closed door meeting at the Abuja residence of the latter. However, there have been unconfirmed reports particularly in online tabloids of some governors elected on the platform of the party as well as key stakeholders claiming they were not consulted before the decision was made. But a party official who declined to be named told Sunday Vanguard that “there are no issues as far as the choice of the running mate is concerned,” adding that the decision on who gets on the ballot with Atiku is exclusively the prerogative of the former Vice President to make. “There are no issues. Everything is alright. Yes, there are insinuations and speculations but there are no problems, no issues. Our Presidential candidate has the right to choose whoever he feels comfortable to work with,” he said. Atiku, last week beat eleven other contestants to the PDP ticket after garnering an impressive tally of 1,532 votes to emerge th Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/10/2019-pdp-denies-rift-in-choice-of-obi/ Lalasticlala

Governor Obiano ferries across Ogbaru flooded area on on-the-spot assessment of flood situation. Governor Willie Obiano today arrived Marine Waterside, Onitsha as he continues to seek measures to contain the flood Challenge in the State. At the waterside, it was observed that the water level had risen significantly as communities, giving course for worry following speculations about Cameroun opening their dams. But let's deal with facts here, not sentiments. Your 2006 population census data is nonsense (and is no longer applicable) because it's more than a decade old, besides, Anambra population (4.2-million) was way more than Abuja/FCT back when the 2006 census was conducted (Abj was approximately 1.5-million in 2006), yet today Abuja has by far outstripped the same Anambra in its population growth. You apparently have no problem with Abuja population explosion since the last census, but are here masturbating and developing high-blood pressure over the fact that Ogun state that is just right next door to Lagos would experience a population explosion. It is clear that your real problem is your allergy to facts due to your egotism. It may be hard to swallow and you can even reject it even, but there's nothing you can do about the facts in that telecoms data.
