The Department of the State Service has advised the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole to resign over allegation of Bribery. It was gathered that the operatives of the DSS arrested and grilled Oshiomhole for about nine hours on Sunday. It was learnt that some state governors of the APC filed petitions to the DSS, alleging Oshiomhole of taking bribes from some candidates during the recent party primaries. However, Oshiomhole denied the allegation as he refused to resign, saying that President Muhammadu Buhari was in the know of every step he took during the primaries. Oshiomhole said that he would reign only if he had lost the confidence of President Buhari. http://silverbirdtv.com/politics/46246/bribery-allegation-dss-tells-oshiomhole-resign/

A group under the aegis of Kannywood Initiative Door-2-Door for Atiku 2019 has declared support for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar. The group made the declaration through its National Coordinator, Mikail Isah Bn Hassan in an exclusive interview with Daily Trust in Jos on Monday.Hassan, a popular director and actor, said their group took the decision to support Atiku because Buhari has failed in providing good governance, security adding that Atiku has what it takes to take Nigeria out of its economic quagmire. Hassan, popularly known as ‘Gidigo’ in Kannywood explained another reason his group wouldn’t support Buhari was his inability to assist filmmakers despite playing a vital role in bringing him as the president in 2015.He said, “We established our group to make Nigerians understand the qualities of Atiku and because Buhari has neglected filmmakers despite what they did for him in 2015.” Gidigo boasted that Atiku has policies and programmes that would provide jobs for the teaming youths, improve the economy and filmmakers would also benefit from his policies. “So far, we have state coordinators in the 19 northern states and each coordinator has eight people that would assist him in taking decisions in his state. “We also have coordinators in each local government of 19 northern states, averagely so far, we have about 300,000 members that would go the nook and cranny of the north to campaign for Atiku,” he said. Gidigo disclosed that some of the filmmakers and musicians in the group included famous actors, Sani Danja, Bashir Nayaya, Isah Ferozkhan, Ummi Zee-Zee, Zaharaddeen Sani, director, Fati Lamaj, and musician Abubakar Sani. Others included, director Al’Amin Ciroma, producer and actor, Salisu Mu’azu, producer, Usman Mu’azu, director, Hafizu Bello and comedian actor, Mustapha Naburaska among others. He said, “We took it upon ourselves that we would market Atiku on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and we would also do door-to-door campaign for Atiku.” https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/2019-kannywood-group-declares-support-for-atiku.html

Alaba International Market. It’s the largest electronics market in West Africa. It’s 10,000 merchants, they do about four billion dollars of turnover every year. And they say they are ardent apostles of Adam Smith: competition is great, we’re all in it individually, government doesn’t help us. But the interesting reality is that when I asked further, that’s not what grew the market at all.

Igbo apprenticeship system that governs Alaba Int’l Market is the largest business incubator platform in the world” Robert Neuwirth This is the full video of the TED talk on Igbo apprenticeship system which I wrote here. The TED Speaker, Robert Neuwirth, made a strong case and concluded thus: “And I can say with almost certainty that the Igbo apprenticeship system that governs Alaba International Market is the largest business incubator platform in the world.” The full transcript of the section of interest is below for those saving mobile credit. So the interesting thing is that this mutual aid economy still exists, and we can find examples of it in the strangest places. So, this is Alaba International Market. There’s a behind-the-scenes principle that enables this market to grow. And they do claim — you know, this is an interesting juxtaposition of the King James Bible and “How To Sell Yourself.” That’s what they say is their message. But in reality, this market is governed by a sharing principle. Every merchant, when you ask them, “How did you get started in global trade?” they say, “Well, when my master settled me.” And when I finally got it into my head to ask, “What is this ‘settling?'” it turns out that when you’ve done your apprenticeship with someone you work for, they are required — required — to set you up in business. That means paying your rent for two or three years and giving you a cash infusion so you can go out in the world and start trading. That’s locally generated venture capital. Right? And I can say with almost certainty that the Igbo apprenticeship system that governs Alaba International Market is the largest business incubator platform in the world. https://www.tekedia.com/full-ted-video-igbo-apprenticeship-system-that-governs-alaba-intl-market-is-the-largest-business-incubator-platform-in-the-world-robert-neuwirth/ You can also watch the video here https://www.ted.com/talks/robert_neuwirth_the_age_old_sharing_economies_of_africa_and_why_we_should_scale_them/up-next?language=en#t-259226 Lalasticlala

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has urged the presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar to remain focused and not be distracted by comments from agents of opposition parties. National President of the AYCF, Yerima Shettima, who gave the admonition while speaking to newsmen at the weekend in Kaduna said the Wazirin Adamawa has demonstrated that he is a formidable candidate as he has already been making intelligent contributions in the search for solution to the nation’s present level of unprecedented hardship. He said, “All those within the ruling APC who are attacking Atiku are trying to divert attention from the dismal performance of the APC at the Federal, State and even Local Government levels, where stagnation has taken over the dividends of democracy”. Shettima said recent reports about Atiku’s plan to cut down on the price of petroleum products should be commended for addressing what would be of benefit to the common man. He said, “We support any effort to reduce the cost of living for Nigerians and we will pray for him to succeed on this too”. Alhaji Shettima also assured the former VP that he would massively mobilize support for the PDP presidential candidate in the north. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/arewa-youths-back-atiku-on-fuel-price-reduction.html Lalasticlala

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Friday said two foreign banks, HSBC and UBS, have closed their offices in Nigeria. The CBN also revealed that foreign investment had fallen sharply from a year ago as FDI slumped to N379.84 billion ($1.2 billion) in the first half of the year from N532.63 billion ($1.7 billion) a year earlier. The apex bank also said that the outlook for the Nigerian economy in the second half was “optimistic” given increase in global oil prices and production. It added however that rising foreign debt and uncertainty surrounding the 2019 presidential election was a drawback. Reuters reports that investor confidence in Africa’s biggest economy has been shaken since the CBN got entangled in an alleged illegal repatriation of funds battle with telecom giant, MTN Nigeria. The CBN had in August ordered MTN to bring back $8.1 billion to the country, part of profits which the South African telecoms firm sent abroad. The Nigerian government also slammed the company an additional tax levy. Both parties are now seeking mutually beneficial resolution. The apex bank, however, did not give reasons for the shut down of operations of the two foreign banks in its report. HSBC has however been at loggerheads with the Nigerian government lately. In July, a research note by the the bank said a second term for President Muhammadu Buhari “raises the risk of limited economic progress and further fiscal deterioration, prolonging the stagnation of his first term, particularly if there is no move towards completing reform of the exchange rate system or fiscal adjustments that diversify government revenues away from oil.” The government in its reaction had contested and dismissed the bank’s claims. Meanwhile, the central bank also said three lenders failed to meet its minimum liquidity ratio of 30 per cent. It however did not name the lenders, adding that non-performing loans (NPLs) have dropped to 12.4 per cent as at June 2018 from 15 per cent a year ago. The figure is still a long way above its 5 percent threshold, it said. “To further consolidate on the improvement, the Central Bank of Nigeria directed banks to intensify efforts at debt recovery, realisation of collateral for lost facilities and strengthening their risk management processes,” the report said. Two months ago, the apex bank withdrew the license of Skye Bank for failing to recapitalise. It transferred Skye’s assets to a “bridge bank”, Polaris. Polaris has since begun operation. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/293913-two-foreign-banks-shut-down-nigerian-operations.html Lalasticlala
