October 15, 2018 Press Statement PDP To INEC Chair: Don’t Succumb To Pressure On Amina Zakari, Zamfara APC The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) charges the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, not to succumb to pressure by the Presidency, to return Mrs. Amina Zakari as Director of Operations. The PDP also charges INEC not to change its statute-backed stand on the exclusion of Zamfara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from presenting candidates in the 2019 general elections, following its failure to conduct congresses. The PDP cautioned that Nigerians are already aware of the pressure from the Buhari Presidency to return Amina Zakari, a blood relation of President Muhammadu Buhari, as Director Operation, so that they can use her to manipulate the electoral processes and rig the election for President Buhari. While the PDP notes the redeployment of Amina Zakari to another directorate, the party nevertheless, reaffirms its position that her continuous stay in the commission constitutes a threat to free, fair and credible 2019 general elections, given her relationship with President Buhari, who is a major contender in the election. Amina Zakari’s removal as Director of Operations has been hailed by majority of Nigerians, a fact, which shows that voters had already lost confidence in her integrity to hold such a sensitive position, for which they prefer her outright removal from the commission. Furthermore, Nigerians are also already abreast of the provisions of the law leading to the exclusion of Zamfara state APC chapter from presenting candidates for the elections and we caution INEC against any contemplations to change the rules for the APC. The case of Amina Zakari and that of Zamfara APC constitute another direct integrity test for Prof. Yakubu on his capacity, integrity and readiness for free, fair and credible general elections in 2019. The PDP therefore charges Prof. Yakubu to ensure that he remains on the side of the people and take urgent steps to weed the commission of compromised officials, as Nigerians will accept nothing short of a transparent process in their quest for a replacement for the reckless, vindictive, incompetent and anti-people Buhari-led APC administration. Signed: Kola Ologbondiyan National Publicity Secretary

The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, has given one reason President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC, cannot rig the 2019 general election. Speaking in an interview with DAILY POST, President of the AYCF, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, said that the rigging formula of the current administration as allegedly applied in Ekiti and Osun States, will not work in 2019. Shettima noted that the police has been a major tool for rigging elections in recent time, but maintained that the government will not have enough manpower in the police force to rig elections in the 36 states and the FCT. Shettima alleged that the government massively rigged the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun but expressed his confidence in the judiciary to return the peoples mandate to them. He said, “The 2019 general elections will not be like what we saw in Osun and Ekiti because this is a case where every policeman will be in his post. “With this, it means that if you have succeeded in deploying 40,000 policemen to Ekiti or Osun to rig election, you cannot take them anywhere in 2019 February general election. You cannot do that. “They [APC] will be completely dis-centralized and embarrassed. You will see that the kind of embarrassment that befell Jonathan’s administration; I mean, the same way Jonathan was sacked, even, this one will be worse than what Jonathan saw. “Nigerians will decide because it is a moment of decision and we’ll all decide. Nigerian Democracy must be saved. “The international community accepted the fact that the election in Osun State was massively rigged and they are in court and I’m happy court will decide on that. “The judiciary will rise to the occasion and they’ll do what is right. Forget about what is going on; the intimidation of the judiciary under this present administration. “They ‘ll do the right thing at the right time. I have no doubt about Osun State. “Then in Ekiti we all saw how a sitting Governor was messed up. An elected executive Governor was messed up and his immunity was completely downplayed. “He was dealt with decisively because they wanted to take over Ekiti State by force but they forget that we are watching.” http://dailypost.ng/2018/10/15/2019-buhari-apc-cannot-rig-presidential-election-arewa-youths/

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it stands by its statement that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not field candidates for the 2019 general elections in Zamfara. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, stated this on the sideline of the opening of a two-day validation workshop titled “Study on the cost of elections in ECOWAS Region” on Monday in Abuja. We have issued a statement on Zamfara and nothing has changed. We stand by the statement that we issued,” he said. Yakubu re-emphasised that the deadline for submission of party candidates’ name to the commission was Oct. 18, saying that it would give a full report on that after Nov. 18.INEC had informed the ruling APC in a leaked memo that it would not be allowed to field candidates for elective positions in Zamfara in the 2019 elections. The commission’s acting Secretary, Okechukwe Ndeche, in a letter to the APC said that the party was barred from fielding candidates for governorship, national assembly and state assembly elections. The commission said this was because APC failed to comply with Sections 87 and 31 of the Electoral Act of 2010. Parties, according to the act, were expected to comply with the timetable and schedule of INEC, which says that the conduct of primaries must be held between Aug. 18 and Oct. 7. INEC said it received reports from its Zamfara office, indicating that no primaries were conducted in the state “notwithstanding that our officials were fully mobilised and deployed.” The APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, later responded to INEC in a statement and said that the party had already arrived at a consensus before the deadline. Oshiomhole said that following the high level of friction, disagreements and threats of violence by various political camps before the primaries, all the aspirants met at City King Hotel, Gusau, to find a truce. “After hours of intense horse-trading, a consensus was reached within the spirit and context of the electoral act and the constitution of our party. This was done in strict compliance with Section 87 (6) of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended),” he said. He, however, said that the commission had stopped every registration, request for transfer and replacement of damaged PVCs.(NAN) He said that the claim by INEC that no primaries were conducted could only be referring to its officials’ observation that actual voting did not take place. The APC chairman said that conduct of primaries was not the only mode prescribed for producing candidates in the electoral act, 2010 (as amended). “We, therefore, affirm that indeed, primaries took place in Zamfara State,” Oshiomhole said. The party chairman also noted that PDP had similar issues in Kano State and wondered why INEC did not bar the opposition party from fielding candidates. Yakubu further said that the commission would by the end of November print the outstanding Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). “We have printed the PVCs for those who registered in the first quarter of 2018. We are right now simultaneously printing for those who registered in the second and third quarters. “We are looking at the end of November for all the PVCs to be printed including request for transfer and relocation. “Let me just repeat the assurance that every citizen that registered and who have applied for transfer or replacement will get his or her PVC before 2019 general elections.” https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/2019-inec-insists-zamfara-apc-has-no-candidate.html

The merger, which became effective 13 November 2017, necessitated the representation of the merged companies to be reflected on the board of the new entity. The board of directors was thus restructured to reflect the appointment of Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, as the new chairman of its board of directors. A brief profile on Achebe, made available by the company, revealed that the Obi had a 30-year career with the royal dutch shell petroleum group of companies in Nigeria and overseas. “He was the chairman of Diamond Bank Plc. and Intafact Beverages Ltd. RevenGeMission:Read the report While Mr Ganduje would readily know those with whom he carried out the exposed deal, the contractors believed their safety would be better guaranteed if their personal identities that could otherwise be obtained from their voices in the video are stripped off. PREMIUM TIMES saw the version of the clip with audio on Sunday evening. “I think you should collect this money before anyone walks in,” one of the contractors could be heard telling the governor. “I think you should put it on your body to conceal it with your babanriga.” A brief laughter then erupted amongst them. The video was reportedly shot in one of the living rooms at the governor’s official residence in Kano, the state capital. “MD will soon be back from Istanbul on Friday evening to give us the other allocations,” the contractor added after telling the governor he had concealed a total of $230,000 in his babanriga for the day’s transaction. The governor and the contractors also discussed carrying state lawmakers along in the deal, especially on how cash and stalls would be shared to them in the deal for the construction of a market. The governor is said to have received up to N750 million (about 25 percent) in a deal of over N3 billion with a single contractor. |

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has dissociated itself from a statement attributed to its secretary-general, Anthony Sani, who reportedly described a former President Olusegun Obasanjo as lacking in vision. Sani was said to have made the comment while speaking with newsmen recently.ACF in a statement by its national publicity secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim Biu said it is not in its character to attack elder statemen. The forum said attacking the views of an elder statesman of Chief Obasanjo’s status on national issues in such an uncomplimentary manner is uncalled for. Chief Obasanjo as an elder statesman is entitled to his opinion on all issues including democracy, as he had previously endorsed presidential candidates. “For the avoidance of doubt, all ACF official statements on any matter comes through and from the National Publicity Secretary only,” the ACF said. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/arewa-consultative-forum-dissociates-self-from-attack-on-obasanjo.html

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths (Worldwide) has commended the PDP presidential candidate and former Vice President Atiku Abubaka, for choosing an Igbo son as the vice presidential candidate for the 2019 general elections. The commendation was given through a statement issued in Owerri on Sunday by its Acting National President, Dr. Kingsley Dozie; and Emeka Odom, its Assistant National Legal Adviser. It said that assistance of Igbo youths would be made available to the PDP, having chosen Dr. Peter Obi as its presidential running mate. The group said it had already started discussing and liaising with youths of other ethnic nationalities on how to have a productive and people-oriented election. To restructure Nigeria is our priority now and we’ll get it right this time. “The choice of the former governor, Peter Obi, is great. He was not wasteful in the management of resources while serving as governor. “Peter Obi is a good choice. He will bring business intelligence into governance. “He is not corrupt and as a governor, he was not wasteful. Igbo youths are very happy “Obi’s success story as a businessman would help in reviving the nation’s economy, if elected in 2019. “The decision to pick him, we believe, is based on his outstanding performance as governor of Anambra State,” it said. The group said that as a successful businessman, it expected Obi to translate his wealth of experience into good governance for the nation. They expressed optimism that he would not disappoint Ndigbo in particular and Nigeria at large. https://punchng.com/were-ready-to-assist-pdp-because-of-peter-obi-ohanaeze-ndigbo-youths-tell-atiku/

Enugupikin:Obaze wasn't against peter, he was trying to caution them Read his full speech Remarks By Mr Oseloka H. Obaze, PDP Candidate in the 2017 Anambra State Gubernatorial Elections At the Emergency Meeting of PDP South-East Zone, held at 3p.m. On 13/10/18, At the Enugu Zonal Office, 16 Iyienu Street, Independence Layout, Enugu. Mr. Vice-Chairman, we have been summoned here to deliberate on a very important issue. Although, my understanding is that we are gathered to articulate the way forward for Ndiigbo, I suspect that as always, they are some of us here, who will display their skills of pulling their relatives and friends down. What I’m about to say comes from the heart and from my personal experience. In 2017, I ran and lost a governorship election, not because I was a bad or unqualified PDP candidate, but because some within my PDP family in Anambra and beyond worked against me. Today, our state and our party are paying the price, even as I have forgiven those who worked against my candidacy. On today’s agenda, I will resort to a historical narrative. On 6th October 2014, a PDP delegation led by the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekwerumadu and Chief Olisa Metuh, the then Publicity Secretary, who represented the National Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Adamu Muazu visited Peter Obi at his residence at 22 Niger Drive, Onitsha to ask him to join our great party, PDP. In the words of Chief Metuh, the visit was as a “result of the resolution by the entire South-East to pay him a visit and persuade him to join the PDP for more meaningful contribution to national affairs.” In his response, Mr Peter Obi, told the PDP party bigwigs that, “I am humbled by the visit.” Furthermore, he said, “I thank you for your continued belief and commitment to the welfare of our people and the progress of our country. I have in the past worked closely with all of you and you know my belief about our zone working together. I assure you that we will continue to work even closer as a team in the interest of our people. Regarding your visit of today let me assure you that I heard your kind and passionate requests and that your journey would not be in vain but in the best interest of our people. ”Thereafter Peter Obi joined PDP. What Changed? Is Peter Obi not one of us? In our language, “even a mad man has relatives”; whom you may only identify when the mad man is being beaten in public and they come to his defense. Similarly, in American politics, there is an instructive saying; “he is a son-of-a-gun, but he is our own son-of-a-gun.” I have not been in partisan politics long, but I am a political scientist by training. And I do research and write, so let me share with you some basic historical realities. We are talking of Zonal consultation on the vice presidential ticket. When did it start? Or is this meant to be a first? In 1979, Shehu Shagari did not consult south-east NPN before choosing Alex Ekwueme as his running mate. Indeed, Ekwueme who was then resident in London had been introduced to Shehu Shagari by the late Sir Joe Nwankwu. In 1999, Olusegun Obasanjo did not consult the Northeast PDP leaders before he selected Atiku Abubakar. Indeed, Atiku having won the gubernatorial election in his state was driving to Adamawa on the fateful day when he got a call to return to Abuja to meet Obasanjo and become his running mate. In 2007, Umaru YarAdua did not consult the south-south PDP leadership before picking Goodluck Jonathan. Rather, after Peter Odili was blocked as presidential candidate, it was James Ibori that YarAdua wanted as his running mate. It was the trio of Ahmadu Ali, Olusegun Obasanjo and Tony Anenih who decided, without any consultations with the region on Jonathan in order to block some PDP governors who were scheming to nominate another person after the rejection of Peter Odili as presidential candidate. In these three instances, I mentioned, the respective regionsembraced rather than repudiate or reject their sons. Will the turn of southeast be different? Quo Vadis Ndiigbo? Are we to understand that after we have waited for thirty-five years to get a VP slot on a PDP ticket that is a winning combination, we are about to waste it on account of our not being consultedzonally? Would we rather the VP slot go elsewhere and wait another 35 years? How do we explain our malign attitude and that outsiders have accepted one of our sons, but we are the ones that seek to tag him “an outcast” and therefore unacceptable to the nation? What is it we seek at the bottom of the pot but fish? R*(24 Mr. Vice-Chairman, the Biafran war ended 48 years ago and the Igbo nation is yet to recover fully. Now a historical opportunity beckons; an opportunity to actualize the mainstreaming of the Igbo Nation, and we are bickering as to which of our sons will lead the charge. Our disposition, I dare say is myopic and defeatist. I have heard corridor talks about passing a resolution to repudiate the selection of Peter Obi as Atiku’s running mate. I hope that those who champion such causes will also have the courage to sign their name to the resolution, so that in the fullness of time our posterity will appreciate our folly. Mr. Vice-Chairman, the two distinct vagaries of history is that “only victors write history” and that “historians claim to be able to recover the past.” So let me end on a historical note. If we lose the present opportunity to produce the VP due to the whims of a few among us, Ndiigbo will never recover the past. And history will be unkind to us all, myself included. Discretion and circumspection is the word! Let those who have tongues count their teeth correctly. Thanks. |
