D few Igbo friends I have here at ughelli, once we are discussing n I mentioned ebonyi state, they will just start calling them outcast. The Delta State government a.k.a "State bandits" with help from a bandit security unit know as " operation Hawk" that comprises of federal government security bandits of army navel airforce and police, along with some Delta State government bandit thugs have been terrorising drivers plying the warri to ughelli route in the name of enforcing the Delta State government "passegers welfare insurance scheme. From what we were told, each passeger is to pay a token of 100# to insure his or her life to the Delta State government. And inturn the Delta State government will now be responsible to help in case of accident on the way. What they are planning to do is good only if they are sincere and do accordingly to what the purpose of the scheme is met for. But you and I know our government is not to be trusted. We strongly believe gov okowa created that office for one of his boys to enriched himself. Why we may want to give them the benefit of the dought, here is grudges of drivers against the scheme.
1- the fare they charge each passenger from warri to ughelli is #300. Many of the passengers do complain that It's too high. Some will leave the park and go and enter along the road were they get it cheaper. So adding #100 to the #300 they charge them, making it #400 in this present time that the country is facing real financial backwardness is wicked and evil.
2- there was no formal announcement to inform the citizens of the state about the scheme, likewise the drivers.
3- they just came to the high way and start arresting vehicles especially sienna mini buses, and charge them to an arrange mobile court with a state

When d drivers got wind of the arrest and d exobitant charge, they decided to down tools and protest. Those passengers they pick half way, how can they capture their names on the manifest? So They couldn't conclude on a way forward n decided to meet another day. While d drivers continue with their work n wait till the day of the meeting, d taskforce team left d Rd as usual n on d day of d second meeting, they fail to show up. Why they continue with their work n believing they are gone for good, they reappear on a Saturday that nobody ever believe they will come. A driver called to say he has been arrested and they mobilize there only this time in a peaceful manner to know d way forward because it seems d union people are not helping the situation. They meant with d consultant in charge who briefed them about the scheme n then schedule a meeting with d drivers on how to reduce d money from d #100 to #50 per passenger. D drivers now ask they send their agents to come to d parks and start d collection which they agreed to, but fail to show up. When other drivers were told about d up coming meeting, some agree they should go, why others disagree on d ground that warri to ughelli drivers should never be part of the scheme. Some drivers went to d meeting just to hear what they want to say. There they agree to reduce d money to#50 per passenger. When those that went to d meeting came n inform other drivers about d reduction, majority kick against it and decided to protest again to send a message across to d governor. D protest actually took place with d drivers in ughelli matching to d office of d local government Secretariat to see d chairman who was notified of what is happening. D chairman got in touch with is counterpart in uvwie LGA n they both promise to Wade in n find a lasting solution to the issue. On Monday d drivers representatives went to visit d ughelli north LGA chairman for a feedback, which they came n inform others that d scheme has been cancelled. D government now announced that they will come out in full force to inspect vehicle papers n drivers license. D drivers said no probs. Yesterday being Wednesday they came n started checking of vehicle papers. When d drivers heard, those that there papers have exipired or do not have papers were advised not to work. Now not succeeding in arresting any of d vehicles over there papers, they now start asking for d manifest again. One of d drivers that was stop n check,n seeing his papers were up to date, they now demanded for d manifest. Not being able to provide d manifest, he was arrested. He went n inform other drivers n they inturn mobilize to know why they are arresting vehicles over d manifest issue that hass been cancelled. They treaten to block the Rd if they don't stop d arrest. Without waiting for d drivers to carry out d treat, they attacked d drivers using d booth of their guns to hit and brutalized them. One was injured on d back of is head who is now in a private hospital receiving treatment. Why d one they held was beaten to stupor they don't know is conrect condition. As a consign citizen of the state, I want to plead with d state governor senator Dr IFEANYI OKOWA to have mercy on d state citizens and stop this insurance scheme for transportation within the state. Things are going up up. Times are hard. Increasing transportation is Harding more hardship.
