This your post is ambiguous and trying to dissect will be an attempt to write an epistle. Speaking as a Christian, religion as practised today is a cankerworm and cancer with no cure. The Sadducees and pharisees of the days of Jesus were merely religious bigots who had no respect for the things of God. any religious bigot you see/know does not uphold the tenets of the doctrines he holds dear. According to the bible I read, this is the definition of religion I associate with James 1:27 "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." Any man that does not express God's love to fellow mankind is only a religious bigot and does not know Him he/she professes to love. Reading is different from comprehension. Why do students fail exam while some of their colleagues excel, its because they comprehend differently. So many read the bible but do not understand nor comprehend what they read. Hence, they can interprete according to their selfish taste/desire. Seeing, they do not see, reading, they do not understand. Meanwhile, the bible is not Shakespeare's tale or novels that needs an upgrade. The scrolls were already written years before Jesus came. It was relevant in that time despite there was form of civilisation at the time. The word was, is and will continue to be relevant irrespective of technological advancement. The word deals with how to live this life to please your maker and also be good to the society you live. The word of God is life, truth and spirit, requires the owner to teach you what it means.... The word of God is a two-edged sword, depending on how you view and apply it, you always get a result either positively or otherwise. Hence, it must be interpreted rightly to get the intended aim. Summary of the long post, religion is not to be blamed for anything but the hypocrisy and wicked desperation in the heart of men irrespective of the religion they profess. |
biolabee: good stuff guys... threads on NL can be devoid of rancour...My point was not specifically that good fathers always end up having good children. It was only to point out the weakness of David as per fatherhood. However, proportion of fathers who raised their children in the right way and their children turned out good are very high compared to the other. What I personally observed over the years is that parents most times wait for their children to start talking before being trained or corrected about any negative character. You hear things like, he is still too young to understand, he doesn't know what they are doing etc.... Starting early and being a good father outweighs not being one. If at the end they turn out bad, at least you have peace on your part. Jacob was a fraudster . The kids are already grown before he encountered divine transformation at bethel. We could also infer that because he hated Leah, he didn't pay attention to her children compared to Joseph and Benjamin from his beloved wife.Samuel did his best and died happy because he didn't die of regret from failure of fatherhood like his "mentor" Eli. |
Waiting to know if the mum will not turn around to warn off your boy from her daughter.... It will be good to hear update about the visit and reception.. |
biolabee: As much as I agree with some things uve said it's not always like thatI beg to disagree with you about David. David was a good man, friend and leader but he was a very BAD father. That is why most of his children turned out the way they are. A man can be good to the society and be a bad father. Being a bad father does not necessarily mean being cruel to children. He had no time for those children he gave birth to in his early years because he was too busy with the affairs of the state. |
Op, Any update on the revenge plot? Could you please give us the hot development, want to know if the guy is already paying for his action. Is he back hawking wares on Lagos hold-ups? Give us the gist abeg. |
bukatyne: God Bless you!Amen.. and you too. |
biolabee: buka.. tired?...au contraire.. im having fun streaming my Game of Thrones..are u a fanThe point Buka and Ile have been making is "train up a child in the way HE/SHE SHOULD go, when he is old, he will not depart from it". The onus lies on every parent to teach their children either male/female moral values and encourage them to hold on to such in all their dealings including dating. However, the point we need to understand is that not every dating/relationship is about sex. Hence, the encouragement given to Baba Oyo to get closer to his boy with a view to defining his expectation from a relationship which should not be sex. |
Princess zoe: Which one of these choices did you make for your son by supporting him in having intimate relationship with a girl at the age of 17? Every choice you make, has consequences, if it is a good choice, it has consequences(positive), if it is a bad choice, it has consequence(negative). If you choose not to stop your son of 17years from having an affair, you have made a choice, if you have chosen not to choose biblical knowledge/words in advising your son, you have made a choice, if you say "i don't want to discourage my son from entering into wordly affair because i did it at my own time so therefore i will not make a decision to stop him", you have equally made a choice. With Proverbs 14 verses 12 i tell you, as a father, the choice you make today will determine your children's personal foundations and destinies.Religion is different from living right sis. At what age did David, Josiah etc had their first wife? Does intimate relationship means illicit sex-ual relationship? The reason why the society will keep deteriorating, too many religious people with faulty analysis of issues. Have you read what the OP states about his involvement in the whole saga? Is there any point he said, he will encourage his son to take the girl to bed? Please stop being religious and just be a christian. In-between, the OP said he is not a christian. |
Emperoh:Hoegh-- Galveston as you noted. They load twice in a month from Galveston and Jacksonville and once from these ports (Halifax (Canada),Baltimore and New Jersey/New York. Sallaum-- Jacksonville, Baltimore, NJ/NY and Boston/Providence. Is AES same as ACC? am not conversant with AES. |
bettymafy: Its actually sex.ual relationship. Nairaland word filter changed it to intimate relationship. Better still, google it.The dictionary I have says otherwise. Nothing like sex-ual relationship linked with it. |
bettymafy: Then he wasn't your boyfriend please. This is the dictionary meaning of BF;Going by the dictionary meaning you supplied, the guy was her boyfriend. It says romantic or intimate relationship. Intimacy is not synonymous with sex. Intimate relationship means relationship with someone you can confide in as per confidential and personal issues. Must there be sex involved before I can say someone is my boyfriend/girlfriend. When I was in high school, the dictionary meaning of it used to be a friend of the opposite sex. I can't forget that because I checked several times. The moral decadence of this age has altered that meaning. Hence why you think sex must be involved in any boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. |
bettymafy: Oh really? It isnt about sex? What is it about then? Marriage? Companionship? Did u ask your son what he wants out of the relationship?Sis, do not let the moral decadence of today make you conclude an early relationship is all about sex...... Some boys are well trained both morally and spiritually that they know when to cross that line. I went to a boys only secondary school and had no idea of how the opposite sex reason or are wired. My cravings for a relationship at that age was to understand the complexity of the opposite sex and way of looking at issues. Yes, it sounds weird but its the truth. Nothing like sex crossed my mind because I have been taught the basic things I need to know and also brought up with moral values. Why do you think sex education is being advocated to be taught at early stage? Knowledge is power, what you know in the right way and at the right time will give a person opportunity to use it right than what will be learnt among peers. The consequence of neglecting him or rebuking him for the action will be much worse. One of the best way to handle it is what he is doing now. One of the reasons I believe a lot of guys out there maltreat the opposite sex these days is because so many of them were not exposed to early training about relationship from their fathers. If their fathers had taught them basic things about relationship and handling of the opposite sex, cases of abuse, maltreatment and the likes will be limited. This is 21st century, the guy already learnt more than his age from the internet, TV and what have you. Baba Oyo, while at it, watch the Guy's back not to lose focus of the goals and aims set for his life. It is well with him. |
bukatyne: Well Baba Oyo,Take it easy sis.... keep the fire within |
Olu-omo |
Baby_123, gave a good advice. Yes, he needs to be talked to more like an adult and not like a kid. He needs guidance and advice on how to run a relationship and how to handle the opposite sex with care. Gone are the days when people used to marry at 18, if not he is closer to tying the nuptial knot. Baba Oyo, this is one of the most important times in the life of youths (the teenage years). Talk to him about his vision and desire for and from life, from there you give parental and sound advice with real life example on accomplishing it. As much as he needs to be successful in this relationship, he also needs to see the bigger picture out of life from this stage. In essence, he deserves more of parental counsel, advice and friendship more at this stage. PS: To all parents, its a good thing that parents develop a good relationship and friendship with their children from birth. The relationship will make them willingly seek for counsel and advice when situation like this arises. It is well with your son's new phase of life. |
^^ That is the unusual magic of science...lol |
Left-handed people represent only 10% of the population, and it isn’t just their writing hand that sets them apart: lefties tend to be right-brain dominant, a trait that might make them more prone to fear, according to a study in the Journal of Traumatic Stress. The study required participants to view a clip from a horror film and then recount details. Lefties were more likely to give disjointed, repetitive versions—a symptom of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). "The prevalence of [PTSD] is almost double in left handers compared to right handers,” notes Carolyn Choudhary, Ph.D., the psychologist who led the study, in an interview with The Telegraph. She adds that the right side of the brain may be more involved in the role that fear plays in PTSD. But the same brain tendencies that might put left-handed people at risk for PTSD and other mental health challenges may also be linked to greater creativity and cognitive skills. Here’s a closer look at some more surprising facts about lefties. Lefties at Higher Risk for Schizophrenia and ADHD The vast majority of people—especially right-handed people—have highly lateralized brains, meaning their brains strictly divide up tasks, with the left side being more active in language production and the right side controlling visuo-spatial abilities. But lefties are less likely to have such a strict division, which may put them at risk for mental health challenges like schizophrenia and ADHD. According to a review article published by the German Medical Association (GMA), about 40% of left-hand users don’t process language exclusively on the left side of the brain. Lefties are also more likely to have a larger bridge of nerve fibers connecting the two sides, giving them greater “interhemispheric connectivity.” Researchers describe these differences as “atypical brain asymmetry”—and they may spell trouble. Both left-handedness and atypical brain asymmetry are associated with schizophrenia, a link that was confirmed in a review of over 40 research studies. Another research paper, published in Molecular Psychiatry, found that people with a particular variant of the gene LRRTM1 are more likely to be left-handed and slightly more likely to develop schizophrenia. Fortunately, schizophrenia is rare—most lefties never develop it. Links have also been found between left-handedness, atypical brain asymmetry, and ADHD. In a study conducted among Swedish children, left-handed kids were more likely to have ADHD symptoms, and ambidextrous subjects were at even greater risk. The researchers cautioned that not all lefties have atypical brain asymmetry, nor do all left-handed children experience mental health challenges. 12 Signs of Adult ADHD Higher Risk of Breast Cancer The potential risks associated with left-handedness don’t end with mental health challenges—lefties may also have a greater risk of developing pre-menopausal breast cancer. A study published in BMJ found that left-handed women were more than twice as likely to develop pre-menopausal breast cancer than right-handed women. The researchers suspect that exposure to sex hormones may influence the development of brain asymmetry and left-handedness, as well as the risk of breast cancer. Only 165 left-handed women participated in the study, so more research is needed to confirm the results. More Accident-Prone In a world designed for right-handed people, it’s not surprising that lefties may be more accident-prone. A study on locomotive drivers in India found that 88.9% of left-handed drivers had experienced a locomotive accident, compared to only 16.1% of right-handed drivers. The design of the locomotive cabin and driving console may favor right-handed people, contributing to higher rates of accidents among lefties. Lefties More Likely to Excel at Language, Math, and Music Left-handedness has its advantages, too! The same atypical brain tendencies associated with mental health challenges may also contribute to greater creativity and cognitive skills among some left-handed people. For example, a study of professional orchestras uncovered a disproportionate number of left-handed musicians. The GMA review article also notes that lefties are reportedly more likely to excel at music, as well as math and language fluency. Lefties are also reportedly more likely to score over 131 on IQ tests. Better at Competitive Sports Some lefties also have an upper hand in sports! The GMA review article found higher rates of left-handedness among top-level athletes, especially in one-on-one sports such as tennis, boxing, and fencing. Compared to their right-handed competitors, lefties tend to have greater ambidexterity (the ability to use both hands well). They also have more opportunities to train against right-handed competitors than right-handed athletes have to train against left-handed competitors, lending them tactical advantages in competition. Famous Athletes Who Battled Diseases Lefties Are Here to Stay Lefties have been outnumbered since prehistoric times, according to a recent study of fossilized human remains found near Burgos, Spain. David Frayer, Ph.D., professor of anthropology at the University of Kansas and lead author of the study, determined that over 90% of people living in the area more than 500,000 years ago were right-handed. Another recent study, from Northwestern University, explored why a small percentage of people have been left-handed throughout history. Cooperation, the researchers argue, favors people using the same hand, which makes tool-sharing more efficient. Instances of physical competition, however, favor unusual characteristics, giving lefties an advantage in sport and combat. To test their theory, the researchers used sports data to develop a mathematical model that can correctly predict the percentage of lefties in a group—from baseball players to golfers to boxers. For example, the model accurately determined that over 50 percent of elite hitters in baseball are left-handed, while only 4 percent of successful PGA golfers favor their left hand. The researchers also note that left-handedness can be partly attributed to genetics and partly to environment. Identical twins, for example, may favor different hands, even though they share the same genetic makeup. The bottom line is this: as long as human societies have both competitive and cooperative aspects, lefties are here to stay. Next time take their picture and video if possible, then send a copy to the woman secretly telling her to desist from the act or you expose her. Case closed. ^^ Not recommended except you can take the risk associated with it. 2. If she is religious, buy a tape that preaches against adultery and give her as gift. (Partially recommended) 3. Mind your business (highly recommended) |
annoymous: I really dunno anything technical about petroleum engineering. But I like the perks that come with the job - traveling, renumeration etc. I dunno if I mentioned this earlier but I really love maths or lemme say arithmetic. If I'm staying in medicine and going on to do residency, then I'm going the pathology route, which is the only specialty that doesn't require an internship year.If it is Arithmetic and traveling with good remuneration you fancy, why not take a masters program in petroleum geoscience, you will just need to take some courses in making up for the undergraduate deficiency |
^^ that is mostly used in the male hostels while those guys do step it up with English in the female halls |
damiso: No.Keep guessing.just joking. There was any work in most campus hostels.Yes, there were and there are still but they use different terms. At least I know that while visiting friends during undergrad. IFE anywork uses that term to advertise and the yoruba women with "se fe fo aso"... Those good old days. |
This is one of the problems rocking marriages where the family of one party hinder the other from marrying as a result of tribe, thereby making the party to go for a choice he/she do not deeply want. Hence beginning of many troubles. @Op, since the parents of the bride already accepted you to marry their daughter, stand your ground against your people. Afterall, they are not the ones to live with her. Worst they will threaten is that they wouldn't contribute to the wedding nor attend. If they threaten not to attend, its very easy, you can rent people to stand in for them. Case closed. It is a myopic thinking and archaic way of life to judge people based on his/her ethnic and racial background. Individuals should be treated on the substance of his/her character. In between, Ijebu people rock though am not an Ijebu but schooled there. |
There is no hard and fast rule about it, he should register his displeasure over the statement when next he sees him. He has no godly and ungodly right to tell him that no matter what had transpired. If he cannot speak against such bad utterance now, I bet it will be the beginning of some great deal of actions to come. |
annoymous: True that but it ain't like you can't write the utme esp if its an unrelated course. I actually sent mails to some of the schools I'm looking at and explained my situation and was told by an admission officer in one of the schools that I can just apply as a transfer student. SAT, if aced, will give me leverage as regards financial aid.I already explained the importance of the SAT as a leverage for scholarship earlier to someone that questioned it. My last response was for the person who thought its only by UME you can get admission in Nigeria for a second undergrad degree. I understand your plans but you need to assess what you really want from life and the type of job you will enjoy doing. |
You can do health and safety course (HSE). |
damiso: really house helps in Uni.The bolded, you finished from IFE? |
You are clueless. And why in the world are you hounding the young lad if I may ask? And yes to get into a different undergraduate degree in Nigeria you need to take UME
You actually do not need to take UME again for a second undergraduate degree. You only need DE for that and will take courses to make up for the previous degree deficiencies. |
Peacefullife: Excellent and matured responses from Bizbooks, calculusx, bellong et al.Once a vehicle is booked for shipping and delivered to the port, it can't be retrieved anymore. You will have to wait for your turn. I personally wouldn't like waiting that long for something that can be taken care of at the port here in Nigeria. |
