The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has installed two units of 60 Mega Volt Amp (MVA) 132/33kV power transformers at Papalanto and Okpella transmission substations in Ogun and Edo states respectfully. electricity Mrs Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday. According to Mbah, the 60MVA transformer in Okpella will be commissioned by the Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Sept 22. She said the 60MVA at Papalanto would be commissioned by the Minister of Power Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola at a later date. Mbah said the 60MVA power transformer installed in Okpella, would greatly support the industrial policy of Edo government, given the existence of huge deposit of limestone and other solid minerals in the area. She said the BUA cement factory at Okpella would also enjoy the improved power supply in the area. Mbah said the installation of the 60 MVA transformer has increased the capacity of Okpella substation from 15MVA to 75MVA. She said several communities including Okpella, BUA cement company, Aghenebode town and environs that are customers of Benin Electricity Distribution Company are expected to experience improved power supply. She also said the capacity of Papalanto substation has also increased from 75MVA to 132MVA following the installation of the new 60MVA power transformer. The TCN spokesperson added that electricity users in Ilaro, Lapeleke, Sango, Onihale and environs in Ogun state who are customers of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company would experience improved power supply. The Federal Ministry of Transportation has entered into an agreement with Japan to promote investment in quality infrastructure in Nigeria. President Buhari holds billateral meeting with Prime Minister of Japan H.E. Shinzo Abe at the sidelines of 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI) in Nairobi Kenya on 27th Aug 2016 The Ministry in a statement in Abuja, yesterday, said the agreement in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding, would also promote continuing cooperative relationship between Nigeria and Japan. The statement noted that Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, signed the MoU with Japan’s State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Tsukasa Akimoto in Abuja. Speaking at the ceremony, Amaechi stated that Japan’s interest to partner Nigeria in infrastructural development was a welcome idea while he encouraged the Japanese to invest in other sectors of the economy. He said, “You have identified the infrastructure deficit that is huge. We are a developing country, so there will be huge infrastructure deficit, and it offers Japan and Japanese Investors opportunity to come in. “Currently we have American investors and Chinese investors that are coming into the economy. For us in Nigeria, we will be glad to see such investors. “There are two types of investment that the Nigerian government encourage, there is one we ask government to government for a concessionary loan. Usually the concessionary loan interest rate is about 1.5 per cent so we will be glad if the Japanese government can come in as the Chinese government has come in. “There is over 3,500 kilometre of rail. The Chinese have been able to do about 300 kilometres. Before the end of the year they will do another 1,200 kilometres to bring their own contribution to 1,500 kilometres which is concessionary loan.” Continuing, Amaechi said, “We are talking with the Americans, but it is not a concessionary loan. They are bringing their investment and they will build 1,500 kilometre of rail including two seaports and they will be repaid by the profit they get from the investment. So we still have about 1,500 kilometres of rail. We will be glad if we can get concessionary loan from the Japanese government or get Japanese investors. “There are other areas, even though am not in charge, like Power, Housing, Water, Works among others. So there is huge opportunity for Japanese investors in Nigeria.” In his remarks, the Japanese minister, who was accompanied by the country’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yutaka Kikuta, expressed excitement on the partnership between Japan and Nigeria in developing infrastructure. Akimoto said, “As the State Minister in charge of infrastructure in Japan, I have been impressed that there is still a great deal scope for Japan to co-operate building the infrastructure in your country. “As you all are aware, Japan is putting in a great deal of emphasis on providing high quality infrastructure and in that respect we are known in comparison to other countries such as China, Korea and European countries. If you look at the country cycle of infrastructure developed by the Japanese, ours is the most cost effective. “You are aware that in the past there has been much discussion of Japan’s cooperation with Nigeria in providing the other railway and development plan in Lagos Island and we hope there will be more opportunities in the future for Japan to provide technical expertise and capacity building also to providing high quality infrastructure here in Nigeria

Following the recently concluded Forum on China and Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing, President Muhammadu Buhari and President, Xi Jinping, were reportedly said to have reached a broad consensus for new opportunities that will further enhance China-Nigeria strategic partnership, even as both countries witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by their foreign ministers. This was disclosed by the Chinese Consul General in Lagos, Ambassador, Chao Xiaoliang, who also noted that the new opportunities are expected to attract multiple benefits for the government and people of Nigeria, as the opportunities will translate into closer connection in policy, finance, trade, infrastructure, and people-to-people ties. Xiaoliang said that, Nigeria and China have reached a broad consensus to bind themselves to the Belt and Road Initiative, which essentially seeks to extensively build up stronger cooperation and ensure shared gains between the two countries. “China and African countries are destined to be good friends, good brothers and good partners. The Federal Government said states must clear backlog of salaries and other related staff arrears before they would be able to access the remaining 2.69 billion dollar Paris Club Refund.

The Director of Information, Federal Ministry of Finance, Mr Hassan Dodo, on Tuesday, said the Federal Government would commence phased payments of the refund to the states once the condition and several others were met.

“The DMO led the reconciliation process under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Finance. The final approval of 2.69 billion dollars is subject to some conditions.

“Salary and staff related arrears must be paid as a priority. Also commitment to the commencement of the repayment of Budget Support Loans granted in 2016 must be made by all States.

“Furthermore, they must clear amounts due to the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative and make commitment to clear matching grants from UBEC.

“This is in cases where some states have available funds which could be used to improve primary education and learning outcomes,” Dodo said in a statement.

It will be recalled that the issue of Paris Club loan over-deduction had been a long standing dispute between the Federal Government and the state governments, dating back to 1995.

In response to the dispute, President Muhammadu Buhari directed that the claims of over-deduction should be formally and individually reconciled by the Debt Management Office (DMO).

This reconciliation commenced in November 2016.
As an interim measure to alleviate the financial challenges of the states during the 2016 recession, the

President had approved that 50 per cent of the amounts claimed by States be paid to enable them clear salary and pension arrears.
This approved sum was released to the states between Dec. 1, 2016 and Sept. 29, 2017.

The United Kingdom says it is working with Nigeria to fight corruption through the provision of technical assistance and equipment to key agencies fighting financial and economic crimes. UK Permanent Representative to the UN, Amb. Karen Pierce, said at the Security Council briefing on ‘Corruption and Conflict’ that the two countries were also working to provide public awareness on corruption. She said UK is a very strong supporter of the UN Convention against Corruption, adding that it had hosted an anti-corruption summit in London with the hope of stepping up global action. Pierce said: “Asset recovery is a crucial part of efforts to tackle corruption and it’s a fundamental principle of the Convention. “In 2017, we co-hosted the first Global Forum on Asset Recovery with the USA, the World Bank and UNODC (UN Office on Drugs and Crime). “This forum helped progress arrangements for returning stolen assets of over $300 million to Nigeria. “Chapter VI of the Convention highlights the importance of technical assistance and information exchange. “The UK is proud to be working in partnership with several countries to share best practice and develop capacity. “In Nigeria, we provide technical assistance and equipment to key agencies fighting international and domestic financial and economic crime, and we work to raise public awareness of corruption.’’ The UK envoy regretted that no country was immune from corruption, pointing out that losses from corruption totalled trillions of dollars yearly. Pierce said corruption held back economic development, undermined the provision of public services and stoked grievances and ultimately, conflict, adding that Kofi Annan in 2003 calling corruption “an insidious plague.’’ She pointed out that the links between corruption and conflict were well established, saying a corrupt government could generate grievances that lead to discontent and then to violence and conflict. “UNODC studies in Iraq, Nigeria and Afghanistan show how once conflict begins, it creates even more opportunities for bribery and other corrupt practices. “In turn, this undermines the rule of law and that fuels further conflict. Terrorist groups such as ISIS or al-Qaeda take advantage of corruption both to fund their operations but also to attract recruits and fund their ideology,” she said. To stem the ugly tide, Pierce said the UK in 2017 passed the Criminal Finances Act which established new anti-corruption tools such as unexplained wealth orders. She also said the UK In 2018 announced that it would establish a public register listing the beneficial ownership of overseas companies, including in its overseas territories. According to her, this will help ensure that the UK is not used as a refuge by corrupt leaders, businessmen and officials.

The Nigerian Army said it killed14 Boko Haram insurgents and rescued 21 hostages in Pulka village in Gwoza Local Government area of Borno.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the insurgents had on Tuesday, ambushed military escort at Amdaga area in Pulka and burnt one passenger vehicle as well as abducted some travellers.

Texas Chukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, who disclosed this in a statement in Maiduguri on Friday said the terrorists were alleged to have haboured the insurgents that ambushed the civilian vehicle.
“The troops have neutralised 14 Boko Haram and rescued 21 civilians, comprising six women and 11 children.

“Troops of 192 Battalion of 26 Task Force Brigade of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, in conjunction with Civilian Joint Task Force, neutralised the insurgents on Thursday.

“The troops engaged and subdued the terrorists, following a superior fire power of troops in the village.

“Four men injured during the attack are being attended to at the military hospital,” he said. (NAN)

i appreciate the fact that the Buhari led administration has continued to wow the mind of Nigerians by providing basic needs for the people they govern, this bold step taking by the president will reduce the level of poverty in Nigeria as well as encourage development growth in the country.

I don't know how true is this post but the fact is that President Buhari is a patriotic leader who has a lot of respect for the rule of law and the Nigeria Democracy, he won his election through a free and fair election and he has been trading in that part, i believe that he will come out victorious come 2019, and if he doesn't, he has proved to Nigerians in different ways that he is not desperate for power. This is a man who contested more than once before he finally come out victorious, he has never push it too hard in his quest.

From my own point of view, the greedy and corrupt politicians who are desperate for power thereby doing anything to get it has actually lost their integrity in the process, in 2015, some group of politicians were working for positive change, but in recent times this people have decided to fight the change process because it does not favor their selfish interest which is not good for our democracy.

This is commendable, the quest to eradicate corruption by this administration is actually yielding a good result, this has been exposing officials who corruptly enriched themselves with public funds, the fact is that if the past administration introduced similar program during their reign, corruption would have been reduced to minimum.

I agree with the fact that presidency is not sympathetic to killer herdsmen, this is based on the fact that the government have been putting a lot of effort in the eradication of insurgency in this country, They have carried out major successful military operation across the nation. with the programs introduced in the eradication of this course, it has shown that this administration will never sit back and watch some killers kill the people they govern.

Bukola Saraki has caused a lot of damages in this country that has made him lost his leadership qualities, in recent times, it is glaring that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, is unfit to lead Nigeria, he is not even loved by the people of his state, Saraki was a good man until he stated paying too much attention to power, the desperation in his quest for power has made him lost his leadership qualities.

In recent times, the president has showed too much interest in the youth of Nigeria, even when he was misunderstood he has went as far as proving to Nigerians that he has high respect for the youth by signing the not too young to run bill which will enable the youth to participate in the decision making of this country, recently the president has said that Nigeria young population are very energetic and innovative and are ready to work which is commendable.

The Nigerian Air Force,NAF,said it has killed many Boko Haram territories in Borno State just as the insurgents’ structural hideouts were completely destroyed in its renewed onslaught against the terror group in the North East. Nigerian Air Force helicopter The latest success against the terrorists came as the service begins Operation Thunder Strike 2 in the region. The Air Force,in a statement,Thursday morning,through its spokesman,Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola,said its Air Task Force,ATF, commenced Operation Thunder Strike against Boko Haram terrorists in the Northeast,last Monday. According to him, ” The Operation, which commenced on Monday, 3 September 2018, is an independent Air Interdiction Operation targeting selected Boko Haram terrorists locations within the fringes of Lake Chad and Sambisa Forest in Borno State, with a view to further degrading the remnants of the insurgents, curtailing their freedom of action and denying them bases from which they could launch attacks against our ground troops’ locations.” The statement added:”On day two of the operation, 4 September 2018, air strikes by NAF aircraft resulted in the destruction of Boko Haram terrorists’ hideouts and neutralization of scores of insurgents at three locations namely; Tumbun Rego, Sabon Tumbun and Tumbun Allura, all on the fringes of the Lake Chad.” “Tumbun Rego, which is located about 140Km Northeast of Maiduguri, has been identified as a major logistics/communications base and staging area for the insurgents. Accordingly, the ATF detailed F-7Ni and Alpha Jet aircraft to attack the identified Boko Haram terrorists logistics/communications hubs. The identified hubs were subsequently destroyed by the strikes. Similarly, a number of solar panels were spotted and destroyed during the attack,” it explained. The statement further read:”The attack on Sabon Tumbun was undertaken based on Human Intelligence reports, which were later confirmed following several days of Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, indicating that the settlement was a Boko Haram terrorists tactical operations base. “The settlement also had some equipment and vehicles cleverly concealed under thick foliage. Accordingly, the settlement was attacked in successive waves of strikes by Alpha Jet, F-7Ni and Mi-35M Helicopter Gunships, leading to the destruction of Boko Haram terrorists facilities, equipment and structures in the settlement as well as the neutralization of several insurgents. “Tumbun Allura, another major Boko Haram terrorists operations base on the fringes of the Lake Chad, was attacked by Alpha Jet and F-7Ni aircraft. Overhead the area of interest, several of the BHTs were observed and the objective attacked leading to the complete destruction of one of the specific target buildings under a tree. “Many of the fleeing insurgents were also mopped up by subsequent follow-on attacks. “Meanwhile, at the time of filing this report, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar, was still in Maiduguri, where he had gone to motivate the frontline personnel while also obtaining firsthand information on the progress of the operation.”

Federal Government said, yesterday, it has approved N6.071 trillion for a comprehensive National Health Strategic Plan 2. Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting presided over by Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja. VP Osinbajo The minister, flanked by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information, said the new comprehensive health plan covering 2018 to 2022, involved the 36 states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja. He explained that 38.2 percent of the total amount would be spent on human resources, 34 percent on medicines, commodities and supplies, while seven percent will be for infrastructure. Adewole said development partners took part in the presentation and approval of the plan, adding that the previous Plan 1 ranging from 2010 to 2015, was only able to achieve less than two of its 52 targets. He also disclosed that the government was working on a plan to banish cholera from Nigeria in five years. Some of the plans, which are in conjunction with international partners, include investment in water, general education about health and prevention. Also briefing, Minister of State for Works, Power and Housing, Mustapha Shehuri, stated that FEC approved N5 billion for 14 kilometers road construction in Akwa Ibom State. He said N1.097 billion was approved for argumentation of the N28 billion Abuja-Abaji-Lokoja road Section one. The council, he said, also approved N78 million for design, finance and operation of 750 kilowatts power generation facility. Also approved was another N73 million augmentation for construction of N1.2 billion bridge in Sumaila Local Government Area in Kano State.
