Mr Sowore, i believe its our right to vote and we are entitled to vote our choice and our choice alone, also it is a choice for who ever that deems it fit to run for elections, If President Buhari has thought it wise to run for elections, then by all means....It is solely his choice to make and not yours. Your words hold no waters, I think you should rather prepare for the victory of PMB come 2019.

PoliticsFG Partners Chinese Firm On Smart Classrooms, Digital Education by Belluchii(op): 11:57am On Aug 16, 2018
THE Federal Government on Wednesday launched smart classroom digital education to link up children and schools to digital learning. Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, with primary school teachers who were trained on the use of Information and Communication Technology for teaching, during the launch of Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (Edo-BEST) programme in Benin City, recently. Already the Federal Government has commenced a process for the implementation of a partnership strategy between Nigeria and a Chinese firm for the establishment of digital education institute and provision of smart learning classrooms across the country. This is as the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseke said that state has started its pilot programme of the digital learning with 50,000 children in 300 schools. Speaking at the launch of the programme at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals stated that the Smart Classrooms and Digital Education initiative, which will be implemented in partnership with a Chinese Digital Technology giant, NetDragon Websoft Holdings Limited was in line with the commitment of the government to continue to provide quality education to Nigerian children as stipulated in Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals. SDGs. She also said that it was also designed to facilitate investment in the ICT industry by building IT Incubators, Digital Studios and Software Outsourcing and Training Hubs, towards to the creation of new jobs in the area of Technology and Innovation. Orelope-Adefulire noted that in the pilot phase of the project, her office was collaborating with NetDragon to provide a smart classroom to the Pilot Science Nursery/Primary School in the Federal Capital Territory. She said, “The Initiative of Digital Education in Africa otherwise known as “IDEA” was initiated by the Nigerian Government and NetDragon through the Public Private Partnership and direct Foreign Investment that will facilitate the setting up the National Education Resource Public Service Platform, National Education Community Network Platform, National Digital Talent Training Platform, and National Future Education Experience Centre.” The SSAP-SDGs further added that with the initiative, the government aims to provide high-quality digital education resources and a new teaching and collaboration model for basic education in Nigeria, thereby promoting education equity and improving teaching quality. In terms of lifelong education, the Talent Training Platform will carry out lifelong skills training and intelligent management of talents in Nigeria to help Nigeria achieve talent upgrading and optimal allocation of social resources. “With the initiative, our aim is to use technology to drive the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals 4, 8 and 9 regarding Quality Education, Economic Growth as well as Industry & Innovation, thereby creating jobs through the E-Learning Platforms, Educational Software and Apps as well as other innovations. By 2030, we want to ensure all learners acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development.” The initiative according to the SSAP-SDGs will also facilitate and promote investment in the ICT industry by building IT Incubators, Digital Studios and Software Outsourcing and Training Hubs, towards to the creation of new jobs in the area of Technology and Innovation. It is also expected that as part of the former launch, an Agreement of Cooperation (AoC) will be signed between the Federal Government and NetDragon, represented by its chairman, Dejian LIU. Speaking to State House correspondents, Governor Godwin Obaseke of Edo state said the scheme was about promoting digital literacy in Nigeria, adding that a Chinese company came to make a representation on how “we can expand and ensure the spread of digital literacy because the world today has gone digital. “Global educational system is now based on technology and this company that came to make representation to government has done quite a lot of work across several countries of the world where they have deployed technology to develop teaching methods, technology to train teachers and contents to assist children to learn. “So the whole idea is to see how as a country we can catch up with the rest of the world by deploying technology in learning and helping our children to catch up educationally.” On the choice of the Chinese firm, he said, “This is one company that has done quite a bit of work. If you go to their labs and what they have built out within Province in China, you will see that they are ahead of many countries in the world. “In Edo state we have started, we ran a pilot of about 50,000 children in 300 schools and as I speak today we are training 5000 teachers for the next roll out and about 200,000 children in about 600 schools. “The world today has gone digital and with the technology we have in Edo state, we can tell when a teacher is in class because the teacher must synchronize their tablet, we can tell when a child is in school because the teacher has to take attendance of those children digitally, the teacher is now assisted in preparing lesson notes and delivering the contents of their pedagogy in class. So technology has taken over education and that is the way we are going as a state and I believe that is the way to go as a country.”

A total of N197bn has been spent on the construction of 26,002 houses across the country.

The Federal Government announced this on Tuesday, adding that part of the funds was also used for the renovation of 13,953 homes nationwide.

The Managing Director, Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Ahmed Dangiwa, who disclosed this at an event in Abuja, stated that the Federal Government was committed to affordable housing for citizens, but noted that funding, access to land title and the cost of infrastructure were still major challenges affecting the sector.

According to him, the bank’s plans were targeted at various housing estates currently being constructed, adding that the projects were expected to inject over 2,000 housing units into the housing stock by 2020.

Dangiwa said, “The Rent-to-Own product designed to enhance affordability by eliminating the need for down payments and other costs associated with normal mortgage loan arrangements has also been approved and set to be rolled out within the third quarter of 2018.”

PhonesFG To Provide Free Internet Access To 10m Nigerians by Belluchii(op): 10:45am On Aug 15, 2018
The Federal Government has stated its resolve to provide free internet access to about 10 million Nigerians in key locations across the country. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, disclosed this during the launch of a pilot digital classroom at Pilot Science Primary School in Abuja, yesterday. She said: “The Federal Government is working hard to actualise the dream of a knowledge-based and innovation-driven digital economy. “As you may be aware, I recently visited Silicon Valley in the United States and engaged with CEOs of several global IT companies. Only recently, we hosted Google executives who are working to provide free Internet to 10 million Nigerians in key locations across the country. ‘’Google, like several other IT companies, is establishing a strong presence in Nigeria, not out of altruism but based on hard and rational logic of profit to be made and potentials to impact a large youthful market of 200 million population. ‘’The Nigerian digital economy will generate an estimated US$ 88 billion and create three million jobs over the next ten years.” Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, who spoke on behalf of the acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, said schools across the country had to be scientifically equipped. According to him, the project has to be introduced to private sector-driven educational institutions in the country in order to ensure that children who are not in public schools also benefit from it. While urging the organisers to replicate the smart classrooms in all schools across the country, Shittu said “government will not fail on its part as it will carry out all tasks necessary for the success of the project.” The smart classroom was donated by Netdragon Websoft, a Chinese company, working in partnership with the Federal Government to develop the nation’s ICT sector.

Politics$16bn Egina: We’ve Laid Foundation For Economic Growth- Osinbajo by Belluchii(op): 10:56am On Aug 14, 2018
The Acting President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has expressed satisfaction over the $16 billion Egina Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) project, adding that the economy was ready for more investment. Osinbajo He made this known at a visit to Total’s Egina FPSO in LADOL Free Zone, Lagos. He explained that the present administration has laid the foundation for the nation’s economy explaining, “We strongly believe that the Nigerian economy must be private sector lead. This project, for example, is a $16 billion project in naira terms, that is about N5 trillion. “The entire Nigerian budget is about N9 trillion and our spending on infrastructure, which is the largest in the history of Nigeria is N1.5 trillion. So it tells you that this project alone is several times more than the federal government spending on infrastructure. This is the story of developed economies that are private sector driven, as there is no way that government’s revenue can possibly satisfy the demand.” Also speaking, Managing Director, Total Upstream, Nigeria, Mr. Nicolas Terraz, stated that the company would continue to invest in Nigeria’s economy as it had invested over $10 billion in the last five years. Represented by Deputy Managing Director, Deepwater, Mr. Ahmadu-Kida Musa, Terraz explained that Egina, remained the largest investment currently ongoing in the oil and industry, adding, “The project is expected to be completed in the quarter of 2018 within the initial budget of $16 billion. “The Egina FPSO is a newly built spread moored FPSO, and will be connected through subsea production systems to 44 wells consisting of 21 oil producers and 23 water injector wells via umbilicals, flowlines and risers.” “On plans to partner with the government on zero gas flaring, the project is designed such that there will be no routine gas flaring during normal operation as all the treated gas will be transported through the existing Akpo-Amenam pipeline to the Bonny NLNG plant.” He noted that the project will add 200,000 barrels of oil per day to the production of the country, representing about 10 percent of Nigeria’s current total capacity. While lauding the support received from its partners, Chairman of LADOL, Mr. Ladi Jadesimi, stated that the achievement of the project was a pointer to the growth of local content and capacity of indigenous operators. He said: “LADOL has demonstrated that there are talents in Nigeria and ease of doing business is very much accommodating as well as encouraging. We have grown from how we started in 2001 and have made Nigeria a hub and opportunity for prospective businesses to come in. We will continue to grow our capacity and ensure that more projects are done in Nigeria order than encouraging capital flight.” Related

PropertiesFederal Mortgage Bank Approves 3,000 Housing Scheme For Workers by Belluchii(op): 4:56pm On Aug 13, 2018
Nigerian govt provides N500 billion to FMBN for mortgage facilities
Federal Mortgage Bank approves N360 million loan for Adamawa workers

FMBN disburses over N7 billion to 800 beneficiaries in 2017
The Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has approved the implementation of a new Rent-To-Own Housing Scheme aimed at making home ownership more accessible and affordable for Nigerian workers.

The Bank said the scheme would provide an easy and convenient payment plan to help workers own their homes.

The Bank’s spokesperson, Zubaida Umar, said in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES that the scheme is designed specifically to encourage Nigerian workers stay in FMBN homes as tenants, pay for and own the properties.

According to Mr Umar, becoming owners of the property would become possible if the worker fulfils his or her obligation through either a monthly or yearly rent payment plan spread over periods not exceeding 30-years.

To further increase affordability, he said the worker’s chosen property, which would cover a maximum value of N15million, would also attract a single digit interest rate of 9 per cent on the price of the property on an annuity basis.

The rent-to-own housing product targets Nigerian workers who are contributors to the National Housing Fund (NHF) and would be implemented in phases. About 3,000 houses are planned for the pilot phase.

To deliver on the scheme, FMBN said it would partner with reputable estate developers for the construction of quality, cost-effective housing stock nationwide.

Properties planned for the scheme are existing estates funded by FMBN nationwide and non-funded estates by private investors.

Payments for the houses would be domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) through the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FMBN, Dangiwa Ahmed, said the development of the scheme was another groundbreaking initiative of the Bank targeted at increasing access to affordable housing by Nigerian workers who fall into the low-medium income brackets.

“The rent-to-own housing product is designed to make sure that any worker who collects a salary should be able to live in his own home and pay conveniently over periods as long as 30-years. This is a massive relief, especially given how little workers earn,” Mr Ahmed said.

He expressed delight that the Bank has been able to successfully create another product in addition to several other initiatives to make homeownership easier for Nigerian workers.

The FMBN boss was hopeful the implementation of the scheme would totally eliminate the burden of equity contributions by workers for housing loans.
Besides, he said the scheme would complement the existing products of the Bank by widening the home ownership bracket, increase housing stock, and helping utilize abandoned estates to be transferred to the scheme.

The Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa (CAHF), which promotes investment in affordable housing and housing finance across Africa, estimates it would require the provision of approximately 100, 000 housing units per year to bridge the estimated over 17 million unit housing deficit in Nigeria.
