PoliticsRe: Bisi Akande Trumpet Bridge, Gbongan Osun In Pictures by bellyjean(m): 5:32am On Jan 12, 2018
I don't understand how majority of the contributors did not get the point @YOruba was trying to make.

These and many more by Ogbeni are laudable projects. The ones he did in Osogbo are great. The bridge and the detour to ring road from Secretariat road is long overdue. The detour to ilesa garage will ease traffic once completed.

But this trumpet bridge is not needed by osun state right now. And unless osun state has plans to make money from this gargantuan project, I would say it is a white elephant project.

Let me build my case pls.
1. Ibadan to Ife/ilesa to akure is a federal road. One beautiful thing about osun state is that this road is just outside the major towns of osun state. The road passes just on the side.
NB. Gbogan is not a major town.
From this express road, you will have to travel inwards, either left or right to go to Osogbo, ife, and ilesa. Since this road didn't enter any major town per se (like Lagos -Ibadan express way enters Ibadan city), traffic will always be free and smooth at the entry and exits of these major towns. So the trumpet bridge clearly was not needed.

2. Building a case for the capital city, Osogbo.
Osogbo is so centralised that there are about 4 entry/exit points into the town.
a. From ilesa
b. From Ife/Moro/sekona to ede to osogbo
c. From gbogan
d. From Iwo
These four routes are utilised by people coming from lagos/Ibadan and akure/ondo/oore
e. From ikirun
For commuters from offa/Ilorin/ Niger state.

One can see how there are options for commuters depending on where you are coming from and where you are going (if you have to pass through Osogbo)

3. Pls we know the textbook importance of infrastructures like good roads.
But a more sensible project to embark upon is to upgrade the aforementioned entry/exit roads into quality double lane roads.
NB. I stay in ilesa, had my secondary school education in ikirun and completed my bachelor's in Ife. So unless you stay in osun state, you wouldn't know that the abovementioned roads are as bad as the roads that lead to stream in your villages.
So you would agree with YOruba that unless there is a specific and strategic need for this trumpet bridge, this might be ogbeni's greatest scandal in his 8 year rule in osun.

4. ... for a better and a more pleasurable tomorrow.
Since 2015 or 2016, Ogbeni has been paying part salaries to the state employed workers. He couldn't fulfil osun's commitment to Lautech. There are some positives too; the mega schools he built. But if this trumpet bridge was one of the reasons why osun workers were denied full benefits over the years, then the bridge better attract investors, provide jobs for the unemployed youths and maybe someday, a world marathon event is done in the state with this trumpet bridge as the route.

5. ...Gbogan, the industrial hub of osun state?

Was there any pressure on the exit from gbogan to Osogbo?

No there was none. Gbogan's population is probably less than 300,000 or just around this figure.

Is gbogan town industrialised which may have led to any congestion experienced in the town?

No.

Will Gbogan ever become industrialised? Yes of course. But unless, Ogbeni has this in his immediate plans or has signed some MOU with some investors to come site their companies in Gbogan, then, the timing of this trumpet bridge is wrong.

I can go on and on. But to do any form of criticism here, I might be relegated into the IPoB league and I don't want this.
"Ona baba ona", the super roads in built in ilesa, Ife didn't last up to 1 year before they got damaged. Why not do standard roads and come back in 5/6 years only to do small maintenance and repairs?

Why not leverage on the strengths of osun state especially, the human resources available, the good arable lands, proximity to Ogun and Lagos, why not collaborate with the governments of Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, and may be ondo to link the States via high speed rail networks?

Why not leverage on the rich culture and heritage and also peaceful atmosphere of osun to make it the number one tourist destination in Nigeria?

I rest my fingers here.

BusinessRe: Petrolex Plans $3.6bn Oil Refinery For Ogun by bellyjean(m): 8:28am On Dec 07, 2017
Ayemileto:
All this refineries are set to finish construction when other world countries have shifted to pure electricity. I think Europe will stop using petrol cars in 2025.

Abeg, What else can refinery be used for apart from refining oil?
Bros, don't let them sell bullshit to us. Have you read the stories of these developed countries? They over destroyed the climate. Again, they used cheap fossil fuel to develop themselves; economically, technologically, socially etc.

If they are so concerned about the dangers of fossil fuels ad energy sources, they should use their money to setup renewable energy plants here. Many people are so ignorant to know that renewable energy is subsidized by governments of those developed countries. Can Nigerian government undertake such at this point ?

Do you even know that US government pays a subsidy of about $7000 on every electric car bought by its citizens to Tesla and other electric cars manufacturer? No I bet you don't.

Look, we will not let any ill motive organisation (world bank, IMF , Paris agreement etc) to keep Nigeria in perpetual debt and quagmire. We will utilise what the resources that are readily available and cheap and use it to uplift our lives. We can be wiser though, by adopting cleaner and efficient combustion techniques for our fossil fuels. We can adopt newer methods of carbon capture and sequestration in our refineries and power plants.

But buying that bull shit that Europe, China will stop petrol cars is a slap to us. Do you even know how China got to this their present economic and technological state? Renewables did not make electricity in China cheap. It is the profits and savings they made from fossil fuels over the years that they are now using to subsidize renewables .

PoliticsRe: Customers Now To Buy Electricity Direct From Gencos - FG by bellyjean(m): 1:04pm On Nov 07, 2017
My people, pls see the bigger picture in this great move.

So many times, discos reject power from gencos because of their dilapidated structures and facilities which they deliberately did not improve. Early this year, minister fashola criticised them seriously. He said they knew the state of those structures before they bought them from the government. And they didn't invest to upgrade the structures after buying them.

After the development, discos have just been one of the multiple customers available to the gencos. Discos will now have to step up their game now that they know they are competing with LPUs to get power from gencos.

Moreover, heavy metallurgical companies especially those in Lagos and ogun states generate their own power and also sell excess to private users. I learnt African foundries in Ikorodu supplies homes in lekki via under water cables.

Why are so afraid of challenging and changing the status quo in Nigeria? We can actually do well without the national grid. Redemption camp, winners camp are testimonies of what can bf achieved if power plants fully develop and utilise the power chain. Produce your power and get it to the consumers. Local governemts or state governments can focus on regulating the market in terms of pricing and billings.

The power industry is large enough for hundreds of private investors. I believe minister fashola was appointed not to manage the decay and decadence that has long taken the centre stage in the power sector, but to turn things around with brute and tact.
PoliticsRe: Customers Now To Buy Electricity Direct From Gencos - FG by bellyjean(m): 11:17am On Nov 07, 2017
Good one Honorable minister.

I have always advocated for a decentralised power system, that is there is no need for power generating companies to keep supplying to a an inefficient and dysfunctional national grid. We can't solve a problem with the same mentality we used to create those problems. We have to tackle it differently.

Let every power generating stations woo companies with the promise of stable power supply 247. We need rapid industrialisation in Nigeria and an inefficient national grid will not help us achieve this. And we will see how quickly the environment of these power companies will develop. If we have been following the developments in the transmission sector, we would see that neither the government nor private investors are willing to invest in it. Common sense tells us that dilapidated cables are not repairable, new cables have to be laid again to the corners of this country. New Substations: step up and step down would have to be installed to enable these new cables deliver optimally. It is a mammoth project which is not feasible and sustainable cost wise.

Taking Egbin thermal power plant for example, out of its total 1320MW capacity, less than 600MW is generated. If they are given the flexibility to feed those companies in Lagos, I believe that they would have been incentivised to get the other turbines working and also scale up.

Minister Fashola should take the bull by the horn and allow these GENCOS to be able to feed residential and office loads. An advantage is that gencos can now add more turbines to their plants I.e scale up as demand increases.

The ministry of power should work on bringing private investors in. Let them choose any part of the country, whether state , city, town, community, and build their power plants there. Let them feed those consumers there. The government via the ministry can work to regulate pricing and billings.

There is no need for government to carry unnecessary burden when there are billions of dollars in the hands of private investors waiting to be utilised.
Christianity EtcRe: Pope Francis Requests Roman Catholic Priests Be Given The Right To Get Married by bellyjean(m): 12:39pm On Nov 04, 2017
Celibacy is a gift from God. It is not possible with mere determination. This is where the catholics have got it wrong.

Apostle Peter was married but apostle Paul was not. Jesus told Peter: ' on you this rock will I build the church...'. Apostle Paul's books constitute majority of the books in the New testament.

Paul's 'decision' not to get married was actually inspired by the Holyspirit and he had God's backing not to be worried about marriage and its loads of promises. God had a great assignment for him and with the kind of energy and zeal he persecuted the church with, this was a great asset to God. This energy that was channeled negatively, was utilised by God and today, the light of the gospel has shone on the world.

Although, not many of Peter's books were included in the bible, but he made great exploits even as a family man.

Martin Luther was once a priest before he had a true encounter with God. His wife was instrumental in his ministry.

Perhaps, the Catholics and the Christians have not really sought or strove to know God's plans and agenda for them and as a consequence, we just follow the tradition and jump on the bandwagon.

Pleading for priests to get married is not the point. But doing God's will is the main thing.

God help us.
BusinessRe: NNPC & Agip To Increase Power Generation By 480MW - Pictures by bellyjean(m): 10:51pm On Nov 03, 2017
This is good news.
But of what use is 480 megawatt when transmission in Nigeria is comatose? I propose that the 480 MW should not be connected to the national grid. Let this generation company/plant focus on its community, local government and state. Let them woo companies, lobby at the senate for approval to feed residential and office loads.

When companies/industries are certain that they can get uninterrupted power, they would logically setup very close to this power source. This gives the power plant the flexibility to scale up as demand increases.

Inefficiencies is just too much on the current Nigerian transmission lines. It is a mammoth project for the government to overhaul the transmission sector. Investors are not even incentivised to try to come in. The private distribution companies are running at a loss and this is why they cheat their customers

Fashola should be proactive on this. Nigeria needs a drastic change and detour from the status quo.

PoliticsRe: Nigerian Youth Political Revolution Movement (NYRP) - Join NOW! by bellyjean(m): 2:17pm On Oct 24, 2017
I am in full support of this initiative. We cannot continue to entrust our future and that of the coming generation into the hands of these scumbags. We must take hold of our future and it has to be now.

My own approach to this is that while we are raring to display and exercise our youthful strength and passion, we shouldn't overlook those core principles , virtues, understanding about life, people and a progressive society.

First of all, we have to soar above ethnicity, we should understand that it is by providence that we belong to whatever tribe or ethnic group we find our selves today and this doesn't make anyone of us less of a human. We should not let this define our perspective towards life, people and the society. We must learn to cherish and respect every Nigerian's lives and their inalienable right to life. Once we have these ingrained in us, it will guide us into religion, cohabitation, work, politics, all other things.

The elites know this and that is why it is a deliberate action to under develop the country, cause division among poor masses. There is a lot of bitterness, and resentment that these elites have successfully sown into us. So we must first be illuminated to see the deep and secret intents of these scumbags and afterwards we can be liberated .

Secondly, we must fully appreciate virtues such as accountability, honesty, leadership, selflessness, compassion, trust etc. These makes us more human than wealth and other material things.

Again we should realise that we do not inherit today from our fathers and previous generations but, we only borrow it from the future generation and we must pay them and that is why, our focus as a reformed youth is that we want to correct the errors of those greedy and shortsighted older generations to make our today pleasurable (the one they paid back with poverty and backwardness ) for us and also to build a better today for the coming generations. We cannot afford to repeat their mistakes. We must always give considerations to the future first. In fact I believe that instant gratification and satisfying the temporal hunger of the moment had brought us to this state of rot in Nigeria .

we must know that a call to leadership is a call to selfless service and sacrifice. Obviously our leaders lack this understanding and that is why we spend over 30% of the Nigerian budget on feeding those scumbags . As much as they would be given due compensation for heir services, they should know that leadership is not a circus party. Leadership without accountability and service gives birth to a North korea - like nation. And we don't want this .

There is more to write, but I rest my fingers at this point.

I believe the youths have all it takes to take hold our our future. We need a massive movement, we must target the young, enlighten them, and let them know that, truly and indeed the key to a better tomorrow lie in their hands.

@ourchoice, kudos to you. God will strengthen you and give you the needed courage, wisdom and other resources to scale up this initiative.

God bless his inheritance
God bless his people
God bless his nation
God bless Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: David Mark Breaks Two Years Silence In Senate by bellyjean(m): 7:33am On Oct 20, 2017
shameless and unintelligent. He possess these two attributes. But the latter is more dangerous to humanity. Because of his unhealthy quest for relevance and cheap power, a former senate president (for 8 good years) stooped, condescended and descended to being an ordinary floor member and he doesn't even know what self esteem is.

They are all clueless and unintelligent that they think they can't have any life outside politics. I only blame those that keep voting him since 1999.

We must do something drastic unless we perish by the hands of these second colonial masters.
