BusinessRe: Devaluation: IMF Versus Buhari - Henry Boyo by bellyjean(m): 1:58pm On Feb 29, 2016
AZeD1:
One way is to stop the rent seeking economy we currently practice and find a way to force the banks to fund the real sector. How that will be done, i don't know.
You just asked the most sensible question... honestly, this should be what our Govt/CBN in all capacity should do. These commercial banks are very lazy, since our mumu government (most especially previous ones from IBB to GEJ) gave them an easy way of making fat profits. Government sold bonds and T-bills to these lazy Commercial/financial/security/equity institutions. They would rather invest in Govt bonds than service the real economy by giving loans to local manufacturers/producers/Entrepreneur; because of the great interest rates and low risks associated with them.

So invariably, our commercial banks are just banks for the government and the lazy rich who just want their monies to keep increasing with little or no efforts.

If these Commercial banks are made to do the real work they are supposed to do, the real sector will get the boost it needs because apart from providing capitals (loans etc) they will also offer pro-bono services such as risk assessment and management etc. This would increase the chances of business survival. At the end, their loan is repaid, and the business is sustainable and waxes stronger.

Now is the time for real work.
God bless Nigeria.

BusinessRe: Oil Prices Rise 5% On Talk Of Output Cut by bellyjean(m): 3:16pm On Feb 17, 2016
Well, this is an important step in a right direction. Russia the world's largest oil producer and Saudi Arabia (OPEC-cabal most influential producer) are in talks. Great indeed.

But one thing we should all know is that for d last 3-4 years, Saudi deliberately increased its production to cripple US shale oil (cost of producing a barrel of oil in Saudi is around $10 and because of the technologies used in producing shale + environmental concerns, shale is still expensive. But at the rate US shale exploration was going, 2 years might just be enough to develop sustainable and cheaper technologies, Saudis foresaw this and they acted (of course they would lose US, being their biggest buyer). Today, many shale exploration companies are folding up. Gbam.... Saudi wins.

Another thing is that, many oil buyers of yesterday i.e countries are now discovering oil (e.g china) + a deeper energy source mix (solar, wind, geothermal etc), as a rule of thumb, oil prices has to come down. Slow economic growth in heavily industrialised china, India, Japan also contributed to the falling oil price.

Now..lets see the bigger picture....
OPEC is not the only oil producing nations, if they decide to cut production levels, they will only lose their market share i.e if they couldn't meet their buyers demand, they will lose them to non-opec countries e.g Russia, Brazil, etc.
Also, the kind of politics, competition that goes on within OPEC is appalling. There are no measures to ensure faithfulness among members i.e they all cheat the OPEC body. If Saudi decides to cut down production, will Venezuela and nigeria (who dearly needs this oil money) cut productions too, will Iran (who hates Saudis and really need money now that the sanctions have been lifted) comply? Now we see that there is more to oil prices than meets the eye.

Good thing, speculations about a possible production cut pushed Brent price $2 upward, but will they ever agree to cut production? Remember, the oil producing Arabs (minus Iran) have stable economies despite a 70% fall in oil price. They can still service their budgets and have little or no deficits.

It is nigeria, Venezuela, Libya that will benefit most from this production cut; only if they themselves cheat OPEC by not cutting theirs grin

So let's see where this heads to...
EducationRe: One Question For The Yorubas On The Recent Waec Result Performance. by bellyjean(m): 12:14pm On Feb 06, 2016
Lmaoooo. OP is clearly ignorant or he hasnt stayed in the east.

I served in ebonyi state and I can emphatically say with empirical evidences that the examination malpractices in Ebonyi and its environs is massive and I haven't witnessed such in my life before.

@OP WAEC/NECO is beans over there. On important subjects days like Maths, Eng, Chem, Phy, a WAEC invigilator can go back home with #25,000. He releases the questions and teachers of the miracle centre solve them and photocopies are made for as many students that paid for miracles grin. If an invigilator is so lucky that he is posted to a booming miracle centre to invigilate 3 of those hot subjects, chaii that's like #75,000. How much does wAeC/NECO even pay him/her monthly?.

@OP if you really want to support your claims, kindly ask JAMB (mind you it's CBT not PAPER anymore) to show you their figures statistically and geographically, I tell you, you would be amazed and pity our secondary school students in the east and nigeria at large.

However, to be honest, education has improved at the secondary school level thanks to good corpers from good schools serving in these local schools. By the time I started teaching ss1 students Maths, Physics and chemistry, they thought I was a god. But by the time I waas passing out some of them can even solve problems better than their seniors.

@OP don't be deceived and/stop deceiving your self, malpractice is still at large in Nigerian schools. Thanks to Jamb for CBT, by the time WAEC/NECO follow suit, we will know the true state of our secondary school education.

Who is doing the installation? You or a third party. Getting the equipment right does not guarantee that the installation will be correct.
Use larger panels than 200 Watts Solar World 255 or 260 Yingli 250 or 300.

You calculation of 6 hours assumes that you have nepa a few hours a day. Use fewer hours. I use 4.5 to 5 hours.

Your depth of discharge should not exceed 50% if you want the batteries to last up to the design life or duty cycle.

Your inverter size is inadequate, if you are buying one of the cheap indian or chinese inverters. If they are running 2500 watts there is at least one fridge and freezer. Did you calculate a surge into your numbers. Your 3.5 kva is 2.8 kw.

You should use higher AH batteries 2V or 6 V to minimize the string.

We done you did more on your first try than many who have done it for longer.

I am no guru just Chris81964
Thanks bro. God bless you.

I guess my calculations are on track. At least i'm on right track.
My calculation is now based on 5hrs sunlight daily. Solar panel 300W @ 24 modules. (though my client can start with 6 or 9 modules and increase them in future)

Using a 48V battery bank, my Amp-Hour is 625Ah. If this 625Ah represents a 50% D.O.D then I should be looking to get a total battery capacity of 625Ah x 2 = 1250Ah.
If I go for 12V 200Ah batteries, I will be needing 24 batteries in total (6 sets of 4-series connected batteries connected together in parallel to the inverter)

But to go with ur recommendation, how many Ah will 6V or 2V batteries give (I don't know other variants of batteries from manufacturers). It is true I need to reduce the strings of batteries, 24 12V 200Ah batteries might be too much.

Also I am thinking of a 12V battery bank system. But I guess this will be affected by my solar array. If my panels are 24V panels, then that's a problem for my 12V battery bank.

I don't know if my reasoning/theories are good.

Oga chris and @all gurus, can u pls show a detailed calculation for the same 2500Watt load? Recommend ur panel sizes and numbers, appropriate inverter size, MPPT size, number of batteries with their capacity.

Thaank you.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bellyjean(m): 4:41pm On Feb 04, 2016
Gurus in thee house, pls i'm a starter in this solar/inverter business and I have zero background in electrical engineering, that power, Voltage and current concepts confuse me cheesy but I believe when the resources are available, no mountain is insurmountable.

My boss asked me design a solar/inverter system (the inverter will be hybrid i.e solar + any other AC power source like NEPA and Gen) for a house that wishes to run 2500 watts for 12hours daily.
My calculations are: total watt-hour is 30,000Wh.
Assuming 85% efficiency of solar PV panels, it becomes 30,000 x 1.2 = 36,000Wh. This means my panels should be able to capture 36000Wh daily to be able to deliver 30,000Ah to the batteries. Assuming 6hrs daily of sunlight, that means the total capacity of my panels should be 6000W. If I plan to use 200W panels, then I will. Need 30 modules.
At this junction, I don't know if my calculations are right.

For the batteries,
My hypothetical battery bank is 48V (as would be that of my inverter too i.e @48V).
Amp-hour is 30,000Wh/48V = 625Ah
This would imply 4 pcs of batteries of 12V 200Ah connected in series to get 48V 200Ah.
I will need 4 strings of the above set to be connected in parallel to give me 48V 800Ah. (i.e 16 batteries in total)
If my batteries work at 80% efficiency, then they should deliver 0.8 x 800Ah = 640Ah and this is greater than 625Ah. So I think i'm safe. Now i'm stuck, how do I put the Depth Of Discharge into consideration here?

For inverter, my recommendation is 3.5KVa 48V Full sine wave Inverter. But I don't know the specs of MPPT CC + other accessories I will need

Pls I want your corrections/comments on this. I saw this thread today and I have gone through the 1st 10pages. I can only grasp this little.

Thanks.

My fellow Nigerians,

But why do we always choose to attack the messenger rather than peruse his message? We are all blaming OBJ maybe because he started this (constituency allowances and. Other poos) during his tenure. Yes, that's very true. but one thing we should realise is that Nigeria at that time had so much money and we didn't know what to do with it (sic-idi agbon). Today, OBJ is calling us to let us know the true state of our country; we don't have so much money like before and that we can't continue in this culture of extravagance and lavish spending, especially on frivolity.

Why do we have to renovate 109 senators + 360 house of reps houses every 4 years? Habaa, kilode, gini? Enough is enough. A call to leadership is a call to selfless service and a call to sacrifice.

My fellow Nigerians,

Pls let us be enlightened and be aware of situations aand circumstances. 2019 elections is only 3years from now, let us wisely choose forthright people as our senators and reps, look around your community and you will see that we still have good people, encourage them to represent us. We can't continue to elect these agberos that can't reason beyond their stomachs.

I was watching an interview and this senator says because of their jobs, Landcruiser jeeps are the best vehicles and government must provide them these..... what manner of shallowness and insensitivity is this?

Nigerians, be wise!!!

PoliticsRe: Senate Summons Emefiele To Explain N305 To 1$ by bellyjean(m):
samofson:
Let's look at this from a different angle, instead of trying to look for ways to strengthen the naira why don't we invest in our local manufacturing and production of goods?

Cheaper naira means our locally made products would be cheaper to export. We would be able to compete with the cheaper Chinese or Indian products because foreign investor or traders would need less dollar for our produce thereby increasing our sales and output.

Also while focusing on home made production and service, we should also encourage some foreign investors to set up shop in nigeria due to the low naira.

I think we should be focusing on revamping our industries and agricultural sector instead of trying to sort out what really we have no power to control at the moment.

Necessity is the mother of invention. They should be a big push in infrastructure building and industry. This is where our main focus should be.
You've got It all mixed up. Having a weaker naira (through devaluation) will only spell doom for us. Apart from the near-worthless oil (worthless because of global glut), do we have any tangible exports right now?

Another question to answer is if our products are demanded/preferred in the international market...

The truth is we rely heavily on imports and so we deplete our foreign reserves more faster than we replenish it and so this our current predicament is kinda complex.

Monetary polices (by the cbn) may give temporary palliatives or worsen things depending on some factors such as inflation rates (if it is double digits), how pliant the market forces are.

If we had enough dollars in our forex reserve, fiscal policies of d government might be helpful (since our inflation rate is still single digit i.e. <10%). But now govt no get money to pump into d economy. High taxation will only put her citizens into agony, hardship and pains.... sighs

But I. Support the rest of your argument. Diversification coupled with technological development, local manufacturing, industrialisation etc will lift our economy up.

I'm no economist but right now if it were up to me, i'd let the unseen hand (hand of God cheesy) hold our market while we develop and encourage our local manufacturing industries.

But damn our past leaders who where myopic and greedy. Just look @ Saudi, UAE amongs others. They can have peace of mind. Today because of past visionary leaders they had.

Right now what we need is prayer. #prayforNaija

The best approach to shell is to act like you didn't apply. I'd tell you why. With shell Nigeria, many people apply to be taken. How they screen now becomes difficult. They apply some random selection of profiles to screen and if you qualify, they'd schedule you for am interview otherwise, reject you.

But can they check everybody? Hell no, they can't. That's why you see some amazing peeps not called and some not so amazing peeps get called. A bit of luck really applies here as most people pass the test.

The former recruitment style fits Nigeria not this one. Again be hopeful. I did something crazy last year to get called. Very crazy

No, GEJ was not a disaster, his administration was. We should all be grateful to GEJ that he conceded defeat even before the 'powers that be' (the powers that wanted to drive this country into ruins) in his administration could tamper with the election results.

GEJ knew that the cancer (which he couldn't cure/terminate during his first 4 years) in his cabinet would terminate the life of NIGERIA in no time. Thank God for his courage and humility. He decided to forego his interests for the interests and the greater purpose of NIGERIA (though his wife and those powers were behind the curtains threatening him grin. I call them saboteurs).

I really need to say this... all I can see is evil. They say mind is a battle field, huh? And that's the reason why Nnamdi Kanu and co wants and have been infiltrating minds of his people, especially the young ones with this poison called 'secession and BIAFRA'.

'Note: Nnamdi's biafra is totally different from the kind of Biafra the late Col. Ojukwu wanted.'

Oh my God!!! What are these vagabonds trying to achieve? They wanna turn sons and fathers, husband and wife, friends against each other all in the name of Biafra? Late Col. Ojukwu neva wanted this. My cousins Ayodeji and Adeniyi married from the east and are blessed with beautiful children. My uncle, èkwè ( a nickname) married Aunty Ngozi from Enugu state and are blessed with 3 boys and a girl. And you call Nigeria a Zoo?

I served in ebonyi state and I came home yesterday. You should have seen how my Landlord and his entire household were sad because I was leaving them. Onyebuchi (landlord's son) even packed enough oranges and bought groundnut for me and my friend. Blessing insisted that I must attend her wedding. And you still call this Nigeria a zoo?

Miracle wrote UNILORIN post UTME and she calls me all the time just to thank me. You should have seen how surprised and how lost Charles was when my friend and I called him that we were giving him our mattress and fan yesterday morning. (Charles and his family are good people. They gave us garri and yam like every 2 months). You still think this Nigeria a Zoo?

My friend and I asked Mama Chineye that sells akara at night to allow Orji, his son whom we coached for JAMB (he is waiting for his admission @ UNICAL) come spend some weeks with us in the 'west'. You still call this Nigeria a zoo?

You should have seen my students at Boys Sec. School, and Anglican Cathedral International School (both in 135, Ezzamgbo, Ebonyi state) last week, i've got like a thousand pictures of them on my phone. Onyinyechi, a female student in ss2c, called me yesterday morning that I should come to school because she was having a problem in a mathematics question embarassed (of course, she doesn't want me to leave them). Do you still think this Nigeria is a Zoo?

Now some bastard Nnamdi with his 'transmission' on some radio biafra wants to destroy this love, trust, respect they have for some guy who isn't from their tribe? They see me as a role model because I taught them Maths, Physics, chemistry, and they initially thought only a super being could do that, but now they are very bold and courageous and they have that confidence they can compete with other students in Nigeria (though ebonyi is totally backward and dysfunctional education-wise).

This is not a good feat in Nnamdi's eye and he wants these children with very glorious futures ahead of them to start killing people who are not from their tribes, all in the name of secession and his own vain glory. I would say this is not the kind of Biafra ojukwu wanted.

At this juncture, i'd say we should forgive our past and let our wounds heal properly. We must join hands to improve our lives and generation to come.
