~ Rubbish! There is no such thing is a Nigerian Accent. We have different accents from different tribes. CNN has something in mind. And Nigerians are happy even when there footnote reads ", the deep, rich “oh’s” and “eh’s” of Naija bend the English language without breaking it, Kinda makes the occasional phone scam worth the swindle". |

Education › Re: What Is The Relevance Of A University Degree To A Nigerian Youth by Ben13: 4:49pm On Aug 19, 2011 |
M M M: op Education is d key 2 succuess GoldCircle: tell you friend to try illiteracy if he thinks education is too expensive! blackmann: if you think education is not important, try ignorance. OK, let's not cause confusion here. A university degree is the degree gotten after schooling in a university. And that is not all that Education entails. Education is different from schooling. One can be educated even without a university degree.
So, if I really got what the poster is saying, he is pointing directly to a university degree that the friend thinks is a waste of time. Also, telling us that the friend is a good reader - he reads a lot of books more of inspirational, he works with the Nigeria film market, and is/willbe making impacts. If the definition of education is something to go by, then he is educating himself but without a "university degree".
The friend is not a dumb rather he thinks a university degree is of no importance in discovering himself. The question is then thus - Is a university degree relevant to his educated friend?
. . . .and this is my best answer:Seun: Not having a degree is a huge disadvantage, you will have to work harder than others to achieve the same goals until the day you die or get a degree. Still, many of the most successful people in the world don't have degrees. Their inferiority complex pushes them to work harder to be rich in order to compensate. |

Education › Re: We Need Vocational Secondary Schools In Nigeria. by Ben13: 9:56am On Aug 18, 2011 |
agitator: It was out of the This was the main reason for changing the school from the previous 6-5-4 system to 6-3-3-4 system
the former was 6-years compulsory primary, 5-years secondary school, then 4-years university,
and the later is 6-years compulsory primary, 3-years compulsory Junior secondary, 3-years senior secondary, 4-years university.
As a result of these compulsory introductory technology, business studies, and fine Arts were to be taught at JSS level and equipments were imported, ironically these equipments imported by the government couldn't be cleared at the ports where most were stolen and others rotted.
and with the lumping of the subjects the comprehensive secondary schools like the one i attended became useless. Clearly, nothing wqorks in Nigeria. Both government and the people. "Everything scatter scatter" Eedris |

I think thaT saying is real. The kids in our homes do more of seeing movies, cartoons and not reading. Thos who read at all, read only books related to their academic fields. But if reading is a way of learning and also viewing educative cartoons and movies are also a means of learning, then Learning has not ceased, but reading has. |
