CAN lauds Nsukka professors, Ugwuanyi’s friends for paying N27.3m hospital Bill of indigent patients

...Hails governor's passion for less privileged

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Enugu State chapter has commended the Association of Nsukka Professors and friends of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for keeping faith with the governor’s long-held tradition of celebrating his birthday, by paying huge hospital bills of discharged indigent patients in the state and other humanitarian gestures, on behalf of the governor, IgbereTV reports.

The Nsukka Professors in collaboration with friends of Gov. Ugwuanyi, voluntarily paid hospital bills of discharged indigent patients in both federal and state-owned health institutions in Enugu State as well as faith-based organizations, totaling over N27.3 million, to commemorate the governor’s 57th birthday.

According to the President of Association of Nsukka Professors, Prof. Osita Okanya, the association and friends of the governor paid N16,950,000 medical bills of discharged indigent patients in University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku/Ozalla; N4,900,000 at Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu; N2,405,000 at ESUT Teaching Hospital Parklane, Enugu; N1,000,000 at Bishop Shanahan Hospital Nsukka and N2,062,000 at Faith Foundation Hospital, Nsukka, totaling over N27.3 million.

Reacting to the development, the State Chairman of CAN, Rev. Emmanuel Ositadinma Edeh, said that the humanitarian gesture displayed by the Nsukka Professors and friends of Gov. Ugwuanyi, was rare, commendable and a true reflection of the governor’s governance philosophy as a peaceful, humble, compassionate and devout Christian “who always identifies with the elderly, orphans, motherless babies, widows, less privileged and the sick ones in different hospitals, during his birthday celebration and other festive periods”.

Rev. Edeh stated that the Nsukka professors and friends of Gov. Ugwuanyi, who equally organized a symposium in honour of the governor, “simply demonstrated to the entire world that they have learnt so many good lessons from the life of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, both from his words and deeds”.

The CAN Chairman added that “the organizers also proved to all and sundry that they have immortalized the living legacies of the governor, by visiting different hospitals in Enugu State, where they paid millions of naira as bills, together with other kind gestures which the governor normally showed to the less privileged ones during his birthday”.

He therefore called on other privileged persons and groups to emulate the act of kindness demonstrated by the professors and friends of Gov. Ugwuanyi, by also giving generously to the poor and the needy.

“While many people are too selfish and will never have anything to do with the poor and the needy, the sick and the elderly, the widows and the orphans, there are some who are selfless and always giving hope to the hopeless, and touching the lives of the less privileged and helpless ones in the society.

“As a matter of fact, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Governor of Enugu State, is one of the people who have always identified with the elderly, orphans, motherless babies, widows, less privileged ones and the sick ones in different hospitals, during their birthday celebration and other festive periods.

“The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Enugu State chapter, therefore, commended the Association of Nsukka Professors and friends of Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for encouraging the governor to continue caring for the needy and the less privileged at all times, especially during his birthday celebration”, he said.

It would be recalled that Gov. Ugwuanyi, shortly after the symposium, celebrated his 57th birthday with the elderly at “Our Lady of Perpetual Help”, where he identified with the aged tenderly and made a donation to enable them celebrate his birthday with him.

At the symposium, the governor expressed gratitude that the Nsukka professors and his friends kept faith with his standing principle “by defraying very huge hospital bills for discharged indigent patients in many hospitals across the state, saying: “For this, I am indeed very grateful”.

The theme of symposium, chaired by former Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, was “At Peace with God and Neighbour: Understanding the Mantra of Governance in Enugu State”.

The first paper, entitled: “Understanding Governor Ugwuanyi’s ‘Enugu State is in the hands of God’ Against the Backdrop of the Biblical Moses and the Literary Ezeulu of Achebe’s Arrow of God” was presented by the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke.

The second paper, “From Ashua to Nrashi: An Interrogation of the Nexus between Environment, Struggle and Reward among the Igbo of Nigeria,” was presented by Prof. Damian Ugwutikiri Opata of the Department of English and Literary Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

While the third paper delivered by Rev. Fr. Emeka Chikezie Ngwoke, PhD, of Department of Religion and Cultural Studies, University of Nigeria Nsukka, was entitled, “Peace and Security in Enugu State: Building on the Bedrock of Conversation”.

Senator Ayogu Eze, Prof. Aloysius Okolie (Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, UNN) and HRH Igwe Abel Nwobodo were Discussants.

Other dignitaries include the Deputy Governor of the State, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo; the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige; members of the Federal House of Representatives from Enugu State, PDP State Chairman, Hon. Augustine Nnamani; State Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Emmanuel Edeh; Senator Hyde Onuaguluchi; Senator Ben Collins Ndu; President, Enugu State Customary Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice George Nnamani; members of the State House of Assembly, State Executive Council (EXCO), Council Chairman; former State Chairmen of the PDP, Chief Engr. Nigerians think that once you are rich, all your family members must be rich. They forget that being rich takes a whole lot. You worked your way out of poverty, you had the drive and the ambition, which might not be the same for your family members.

You can give someone 50 million, they won’t still be rich, but give another person 50k, what they will achieve with the money will shock you. A lot of family members are comfortable with hand me downs from any of their sibling that is doing well. They want to use expensive phones, wear expensive clothes, without doing anything for a living. They want the type of life they didn’t work for, that is not sustainable, all because they have a rich sibling.

If you force them to get a life, think of something they can do, so that you will establish them to hustle and work their ways out, they come up with no single business idea, no craft, all they want is to get the money from you, waste it and come back for more, they don’t care how it makes you feel, as long as you have the money, they are entitled to it, because they are family, until you allow them wreck you and pull you down to their level.

Society will judge you for having money and living rich, while you have siblings that are not doing well in life. Very wrong mentality, frustrating one at that. You can only take a horse to the river, but you can’t force the horse to drink water.

Ask such people what exactly they want to do in life, they come up with absolutely nothing. Tell them to tell you what they can do with 5 million naira, they tell you to give them the money first, that they will figure it out later, that goes to show that they have no ambition, no plans at all, they just want to get money from their rich sibling and waste it, believing there’s more where that came from.

I personally don’t believe one should have mandatory responsibility over their siblings. That you are willing to help people you didn’t give birth to, doesn’t mean you are responsible for them, especially adults.

You see someone that has ambition, they have drive and lucrative business ideas, all they need is capital from you, as compared to a sibling that only wants money to waste. You know what is right, but chose to give your sibling, all because of your warped mentality, you think the universe will bless you? For how long do you think you will continue to do such?

When I hear things like, ‘see how rich he is, but his siblings are suffering in the village’ I shake my head with reckless abandon, the mentality is a terrible one. Don’t judge what you don’t know, your obligatory mentality is wrong.

I believe in pushing people that wants to be pushed, family members or not, and ignore those that are only comfortable with hand me downs, feeling entitled to the sweat of their siblings, uncles or aunties.

It’s different, if your siblings actually have business ideas, and you refuse to help them, then that is sheer wickedness.

To read is human, to understand is divine!

Ex-Convict Arrested For Armed Robbery In Lagos 4 Months After His Release From Prison (Photo)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old ex-convict, Taiwo Sunmomu, for armed robbery about four months after he was released from prison for committing a similar crime,

Spokesperson of the command, Muyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, March 14, said the ex-convict and some members of his gang had invaded Ijanikin area of the state and were robbing residents before he was arrested by the police.

"The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one Taiwo Sunmonu, m, 23, on 13th March, 2021 at 11.30pm, for armed robbery after he was released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in November, 2020, having served a five-year jail term," Adejobi stated.

"The suspect was arrested by the police operatives attached to Ijaninkin Division, while responding to a distress call, as the suspect and his gang members were robbing unsuspecting Lagosians at Ajayi Street, Oto Awori, Ijannikin in Lagos State. But other members of the gang escaped.”

He also stated that the suspect has confessed to the crime and other crimes he had participated in. One locally-made pistol and live ammunition were recovered from the suspect.

My name is Chioma Nwadike, yesterday, being the 12th day of march 2021, my attention was drawn to online media posts making rounds of my “marriage” allegedly to the Alaafin of Oyo as his 13th wife. Recall that about a day or two ago the news that the Alaafin had allegedly taken a 13th wife whose name happened to be Chioma was on social media, which news I read as well.

It is rather pathetic that yesterday the 12th day of March 2021, I discovered that my photos were attached to the marriage news of the Alaafin and has since been heavily publicized by blogs and news pages across various social media platforms. I trended wrongly on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as I was taken out to be a person who left her husband to be the Alaafin’s 13th wife. These false posts are all over the Internet and have amassed an unquantifiable number of views by Nigerians, including my friends, family and business associates.

However, at the risk of not joining issues with these bloggers who have already achieved their nefarious aim of bringing my name to disrepute, I am putting out this statement, categorically debunking these rumors to be false, unfounded and malicious as this is clearly the work of mischief makers, who would stop at nothing to malign my image.

The person in the picture is my estranged husband from a failed marriage, the aftermath of which, I am still suffering till today. These past few months have been a turbulent ride for me, evident by this current false news and defamatory posts. I have also despite this instant news, received other numerous defamatory posts/comments on my Facebook account, people have sent private inbox messages to my friends, and even fake social media accounts have been created to troll and harass me, which made me deactivate my Facebook page, just so I can have a semblance of peace. Sadly, reasons for these acts, merely orchestrated to malign and dent my image remains inexplicable to me.

It is rather unfathomable as to why I am being singled out to be diminished in the eyes of Nigerians even whilst still going through the emotional and painful rigors of an extremely messy divorce proceeding, which is still pending in court and wherein my estranged husband and his Lawyers have applied every dilatory tactic to stall the conclusion of the case for reasons I wouldn’t want to state now.

Regrettably, these false and rather demeaning publications have now perturbed and created an unnecessarily traumatic environment amongst my family, friends and colleagues who found it very hard to harbor the believe that I purportedly jilted my estranged husband in order to marry the Alaafin of Oyo.

To all those who have worked tirelessly since yesterday to help debunk this unfounded news making waves in the social media space in whatever way they can, I am eternally grateful for believing in me and protecting my vulnerabilities as a Nigerian woman, who is prone to ridicule and shame to the highest bidders.

I am consulting with my Lawyers, who will, in due course, commence appropriate legal actions.

The funeral of music producer, Ayorinde Faboro popularly known as Dokta Frabz, took place in Maryland, USA on Friday, March 12, IgbereTV reports.

Dokta Frabz died in February after he was reportedly shot.

His funeral service got emotional when his daughter, Genesis, broke down in tears as she said she missed her father so much. His body was later interred at the Maryland Memorial National Park. His son, Noah, also spoke of how he misses his father.
