On Wednesday January 20, a woman identified Aramide Amoke was arrested for assaulting an officer of Oyo State Traffic Management Agency (OYRTMA), IgbereTV reports.

The incident happened at about 8:am at the Oluyole Estate axis of Ibadan, Southwest Local Government Area, while the officer was on active and legitimate duty in the area.

According to eyewitnesses, Mrs. Aramide was driving on 'one-way' and against traffic when the officer stopped her vehicle.

In this process, she allegedly slapped the officer repeatedly and other motorists, passersby, commercial motorcyclist and eyewitnesses who were apparently angry and displeased at her actions gathered in an attempt to mob her and raze the vehicle involved.

It was at this point that the Chairman of the agency, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi was contacted and he swiftly moved to avert the brewing crisis by first sending a nearby representative who doused the tension.

The vehicle was impounded and taken alongside the assaulter to the OYRTMA Headquarters pending the time she would be charged to court for assault and deliberate breach of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority Law 2009.

Fagbemi later arrived the scene and restored complete normalcy while ensuring aggrieved eyewitnesses that justice would be served in accordance with the extant laws of Oyo State. He thanked them for restraining from taking laws into their hands.

A little Nigerian girl has gladdened the hearts of many after a video of her fervently praying for her sick father surfaced online, IgbereTV reports.

Unconfirmed reports claim her father is down with a kidney ailment and was on his way to the hospital when the little girl stretched her hands, placed it on her father and ''prayed'' for him.

A High Court in the Federal Capital Territory has stopped the prosecution of Pastor Sam Adeyemi of Daystar Christian Centre, Burna Boy, Davido, Falz, activist Deji Adeyanju and others over the #EndSARS protest, IgbereTV reports.

The High Court ordered a Magistrate court to immediately stop proceedings and stay action against 50 persons who supported the #EndSARS protests, following a criminal complaint filed by lawyer Kenechukwu Okeke.

Okeke in his suit alleged that during the riot, properties were destroyed and the defendants who promoted the #EndSARS protests must be held responsible for it and also brought to justice.

Justice Bello Kawu who delivered a judgement on the application filed by Activist Deji Adeyanju (one of the defendants) for a judicial review of the substantive matter before the magistrate, said;

“An order of this honourable court granting leave to the application to issue and serve on the defendant an application for judicial review against the proceedings/direct criminal complaint of Hon. Omolola Tolulope Akindele sitting at Chief Magistrate Court II, Wuse Zone 6 in the suit of Kenechukwu Okeke Vs Deji Adeyanju and 49 others in suit No. CR/49/2020.

“An order of this honourable court, that on the grant of the above orders herein, serve as stay of all proceedings on the direct criminal complaint Omolola Tolulope Akindele sitting at Chief Magistrate Court II, Wuse Zone 6 in the suit of Kenechukwu Okeke Vs Deji Adeyanju and 49 others in suit no. CR/49/2020.

“An order of this honourable court, that on the grant of the above orders herein, same order as granted by the honourable court shall restrain the Nigeria Police Force, 2nd and 3rd defendants from taking any further steps, arresting and or taking any unconstitutional/illegal steps in the form of any guise as it concerns the subject matters whatsoever before this court herein as it concerns all parties in the proceedings."

Lady Claims She Was Raped By The Man Killed By A Youth Corp Member In Akwa Ibom (Video)

A young lady, Effiong Laurel Scott, has come out to claim she was raped by the man who was hacked to death by a youth corp member in Akwa Ibom, IgbereTV reports.

On Sunday, January 10, a youth corper named Princess Odume, was apprehended and handed over to the police for allegedly killing a man identified as Japhet Akwaowo.

Princess alleged that she killed him in self-defense after he threatened to kill her upon her refusal to oblige his request to remove her clothes so that he could have sex with her.

In a video that has now gone viral, Effiong alleged that Japheth also raped her in 2017 when she was 18.

In her words:

''My name Effiong Laurel Scott and I am from Akwa Ibom state. I heard about the incident that took place here in Uyo of the girl that butchered the guy to bits and pieces. I heard about it a few days ago but I did not think much of it until yesterday.

I was just scrolling through Facebook and I saw a comment on the post that stated 'Even if it was a rape case, why would she kill the guy?'.

That caught my attention and I went through the post and I started reading through and this was the girl's side of the story that said the guy tried to rape her.

I was like let me see the girl's photo and the guy's photo.

As God would have it, it turns out that this was the guy that raped me in 2017, July 17th to be precise in Etinan local government.''

Giving details of how it happened, Effiong said;

''My family and I came back to Akwa Ibom in 2012. I grew up in Maiduguri. Due to the security, insurgency and all that, we came back to Akwa Ibom state.

My dad was transferred top Etinan and we moved to Etinan to be with him. I celebrated my 18th birthday on May 11 and this incident happened in July. I was on my way out on a bike. This guy trailed me on the bike and came to me. He stopped the bike that I was on. He got the number. This guy is actually a rapist and a killer.

He is not just a rapist, He is a serial rapist.

So this guy met me. He sounded so sound. The guy was like since you are in a haste, just give me your number. When you come back we would get to see and talk. Me too I was in a haste so I was like let me just give him my number, it's not like I was going to pick his call.

On my way back home, when I was on the exact spot that he met me to get my number, my phone rang and I picked up and he was like where are you?. I told him I was where he saw me. By this time, this was around 6.30 in the evening. In Etinan, by 6pm, everybody is already on their way home or in their houses. It is already late and almost dark.

He told me to stop by a filling station. I stopped by and stood beside it. Listen to the storyline so that you would know that the whole ''''jazz'' thing that the girl said is true and it is realistic. It is very very true that the guy uses ''jazz'' on his victims. He hypnotises them.

He told me that he told his Aunty that I was coming by to visit him. I was still having some sense in me. I was like no I cannot come to your house, I just met you. This guy kept on convincing me. We stood on that spot and kept on convincing me. At a time I was like, Okay, let me just waste my own time, let me go with this guy.

The road he entered and started taking me through was a bush track. He took me through that road and in my mind, I was like what are we doing here exactly. By the time we got into the house, the house was like a deserted place.

So I got into the house and the moment I saw it, I said I can't stay here. So I got up and told him I was going, maybe I would come another time. I reached for the door. Lo and Behold, the door was locked.

As I turned my back to ask him to open the door, this guy got a matchete and a pen knife. He told me in that girl's exact words that he will rape me and kill me and nobody will know about it and nobody will do anything about it. Yes! Those were his exact words to me too. No single thing changed.

I begged as an 18 year old. I begged. I cried. What didn't I do that day. I begged him. I was literally crying.

Fine, he still had his way with me. He had his way with me not once, twice. to be precise I got back home that night around 11pm. I snucked into the house, I had my bath. I cried my eyes. I cried for days.''

Effiong said she left Etinan a few weeks after the incident

''The only person I was able to tell this thing to then was my elder sister. Somehow he got to know that my elder sister knew about it. He started threatening her from that time. This guy's name is Akwaowo Japheth. That is his name. Quote me. I am the one saying it. This guy's name is Akwaowo Japheth. I can vouch on my life that that girl did not just want to murder him.''he said

She said the joy for her is that the deceased died a painful death. She insisted that the youth corper killed the deceased in self-defense. She called on other victims of the deceased to speak up so they can save the youth corper.

18-Year-Old Woman Who Died During Sex Romp In Yobe Govt Lodge Identified (Photos)

IgbereTV reports that the 18-year-old who died during sex romp in Yobe government lodge has been identified as Bilikisu Ali.

The teen, who graduated from secondary school last year, reportedly had foam coming out of her mouth when her body was discovered in the lodge last week.

A man named Dr Albash Yaya Ibrahim, who was a visitor in Damaturu, has been arrested in connection with her death.

Dr Albash had allegedly requested 3 of his friends bring him a female companion for the night when he arrived Damaturu on January 6.

Bilikisu Ali was the woman brought. However, hours later, Dr Albash raised alarm and reported the girl was lifeless.

According to the police, the teen had foam coming out of her mouth when her body was found.

Albash admits he had sex with the girl but claims she died due to intake of drugs. Albash and the three friends who brought the teen to him have all been arrested.

Police Recover Genital Organ Of 6-Year-Old Girl Mutilated By Riualists In Bauchi (Photos)

The Bauchi Police Command has recovered a genital organ suspected to belong to the 6-year-old girl mutilated by ritualists in Jamaare Local Government Area of the state, IgbereTV reports.

Recall that two suspects Abdulkadir Wada Haladu, 19, and Adamu Abdulrauf, 20, were arrested in connection with the crime. Wada was nabbed in Mararraba, Nasarawa State where he voluntarily confessed to the crime.

Spokesperson of the command, Wakil, who confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, January 13, said a bottle containing the suspected genital organ (complete Vulva; Libia Majora, Libia Minora and clitoris) was recovered in the house of one of the suspected ritualists, Abdulkadir Wada Haladu.

Other items recovered include two knives, three bottles containing native medicine.
One carton containing some native dry medicines tied inside polythene bags, one dry animal skin, two Islamic native black boards, one calabash, one hoe, and two locally made Disks.

The Abia State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Cosmos Ndukwe has said that he does not owe the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) any explanation for hosting an All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator, Orji Kalu in his home, IgbereTV has learned.

Ndukwe stated this following the controversies, negative comments and reactions that had trailed the visit of Dr. Orji Kalu, the Senator representing Abia North and a former Governor of the State to his(Ndukwe) Akanu Item country home, in Abia, a visit which the Commissioner was said to have termed a ‘condolence visit’ rather than a political one.

Among those who have criticized the Commissioner were Promise Uzoma Okoro, deputy chairman of the State’s Bende local government council. He said Ndukwe was an hypocrite to have lambasted the Abia Assembly Speaker Rt Hon Chinedum Orji for visiting the opposition party Senator in the past, same man he(Ndukwe) hosted at his residence recently.

Despite the calls for him to apologize to the Speaker and others over his(Ndukwe) strong criticism of him(Chinedum) in the past, the Trade and Investment Commissioner said he owe no one any explanation including the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A source privy to the development, said Ndukwe boasted at a recent private gathering of friends and political associates that nothing can be done to him by any of the aforementioned, insisting, however, that he owe no one any apology or explanation for his actions.

“Does being a commissioner foreclose one’s personal life and engagements? Everyone, including my boss, the governor knows that what transpired at my country home recently was a private, cum condolence visit and nothing more. Other PDP members, including the governor have also attended private events hosted by the opposition why is my own different?”, the source and friend of the Commissioner, who craved anonymity, quoted Ndukwe as saying at the private gathering.

In a tweet on Friday reposted on his Facebook wall in veil response to the controversies, Commissioner Ndukwe took a swipe at his critics rather than explain, apologize or respond to the calls for him to apologize to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji.

Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Orji, who marked his 50th birthday on December 25, granted interview to TheSun about his life, politics and governance.

In this rare interview, which was monitored by IgbereTV, the Speaker, a son of former Governor Theodore Ahamefula Orji, also spoke about his relationship with the present governor of Abia State.

Below is the interview.

Mr. Speaker, we will start first by congratulating you on your birthday coming up on December 25. You were born the same date Jesus Christ was born. How does it feel to share the same birthday with the Saviour of the world?

Well, I feel special as a human being, knowing that there is reason for everything and even though nobody is perfect, I try to do things that will please people, being born on a Christmas Day. I see it as a rare privilege.

Would you say sharing birthday with Jesus Christ is a blessing or burden?

It is both a blessing and a burden. It is a blessing because everything associated with Jesus Christ is good. However, I think it’s more of the latter because nobody can equate himself with our Lord and Saviour. Your life should not be for personal aggrandisement but for the benefit of others. Christmas is a time you reach out to the less privileged in society; you try to make your environment better than you met it, whether you are rich or poor.

People say life begins at 40 and you are 50. How does it feel to join the golden club?

I feel a sense of pride, a sense of accomplishment. I feel a sense of pride in the sense that I’m grateful to God that He has kept me alive up to this point. I feel accomplishment that God has granted me favour in His eyes. I am happy for the grace of God. It is His grace that has made it possible for me to achieve whatever I have been able to achieve.

Looking at your family background, could you share with us what your growing up was like and what life has taught you?

My growing up was very interesting. I was the only child of my parents for almost 16 years. Most people don’t know that. Because of that, my parents, especially my mother pampered me a lot. In fact, while growing up, when I walked in the street with my mother, people thought she was my sister; they never believed she was my mother. So, I was well taken care of by my parents because I was the only child for close to almost 16 to 17 years. In fact, when they put me in boarding school, I ran back home after one month. I couldn’t stay because as only child then I got all the attention. In boarding house, it was different; so I ran home. My parents didn’t chase me back; they allowed me to go to school, Government College, Owerri, from home. So, I was desirous of having other siblings around me, I was not happy being alone for almost 16 years.

By the grace of God, my parents were then blessed with two other girls and three boys, who came after me. I don’t have any other best friend; my wife, parents, brothers and sisters are my best friends.

Talking about what life has taught me, I would say that life has taught me resilience, loyalty to a cause, hard work and being generous to people. It has taught me many good things, which I imbibed when I was growing up. My father told me something that has helped me in life. He listed somethings I should avoid in life; they are about four . He said I should never allow quarrel to come between anybody and I based on four things.

The first one is land matters. I don’t get involved in land matters. I know you will be shocked to hear that. Two, money. If you and I do a business together and you decide to cheat me, so be it. I know that God has a way of sorting it out, in the long run. Three, my father told me not get into confrontation with my friend or anybody because of a woman. Then lastly, he said I should be careful how I drink. According to him, there is nothing wrong with socialising, but do everything in moderation.

With those four principles, my parents, especially my mother who is the stricter person, helped me to mould my attitude in life.

Life has taught me how to cope with such things as betrayal, envy and jealousy. I did not make myself to be the son of a governor, neither did my father wake up one day and saw himself as a governor. Somebody and some people made very big use of the man’s quality as a decent man and based on those attributes, he became a governor. So, for somebody to envy you or to betray you means that that person may not likely get to the position you are currently occupying.

How do you manage things like betrayal?

It is usually painful to be betrayed. I have had it in abundance. People will betray you when they feel that they need to be you. I have learnt to ignore them and move on in my life. I know that as long as there is this thing called conscience, such people do not eventually have peace because betrayal is very bad. It is sad that some people will instigate problem between you and somebody deliberately. That’s why we should not be too quick to judge. People cause crisis and fuel it for their own interest. So, it takes wisdom and God’s guidance to manage this. Always pray to God to open your eyes and help you to avoid such people, to stay on your own and allow nature to take its course.

Two traffic robbers identified as Dada Owolabi and Kolawole Olawoye have been arrested by the police for allegedly dispossessing unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables around Ogudu/Alapere area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, IgbereTV reports.

The suspects who were arrested at different locations in the area by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.

The state police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi said;

“The zeal of the command to curtail traffic robbery paid off as the RRS men on decoy operation along the Ogudu/Alapere Road, on Saturday, January 9, 2021, arrested two suspected traffic robbers.

“The suspects are Dada Owolabi, 52; and Kolawole Olawoye, 25. The suspects were arrested during different incidents around 10pm. The suspects are assisting the police to apprehend other fleeing members of their gangs.

“The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered that the suspects be transferred to the SCIID, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation.”

The government of Abia State has brought out new measures to combat the increasing Coronavirus cases in Nigeria, IgbereTV reports.

A statement made available to IgbereTV by the secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, reads:

"PRESS RELEASE

Government is worried at the continued rise in the confirmed cases of Covid-19 and has continued to review measures already put in place to check the incidents of the new surge in the state particularly with the massive influx of people into the State for the Yuletide celebration.

As a responsible Government, we would continue to evolve ways to protect Abians, and our environment with a view to preventing further community transmission.

To this end, Government has resolved as follows:

1. That all Abians should make themselves available for covid-19 test. We wish to inform Abians that Government has set up Sample Collection Centres at the various Local Government Areas including Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH), Aba and Molecular Testing Laboratory at Amachara. All sample collections and tests are free of charge.

2. As part of the measures to mitigate the effect of the pandemic in the State, all Abians are required to compulsorily wear their face masks at all times. Going forward, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Public Offices, Eateries, Hospitals and Banks are hereby directed to paste on all their entrances “No Face Mask, No Entry” notice/inscription. This is compulsory and failure to do so will attract sanction. In addition, such MDAs and public offices and places are required as a matter of necessity to provide all Covid-19 Protocols particularly running water and hand sanitizers within their offices.

3. Government also directs all Local Government Chairmen, Traditional Institutions, Leadership of various Market Unions and Religious bodies, including the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) etc to embark on Advocacy/Sensitization Exercise on Covid-19, and religious worship must be in line with laid down Covid-19 protocols.

4. The State work force will still operate with Grade Level 12 and above and those on essential services will continue to work Mondays through Fridays.

5. It is absolutely expedient that all Abians must take advantage of the ongoing community testing to ascertain their Covid-19 status.

6. Our Isolation Centres are in operation and all our Medical Protocol Team are in place.

7. The State Covid-19 Enforcement Team will immediately begin routine visit to public places to ensure compliance.

8. Government directs all and sundry to observe the protocol of social distancing, hand washing, use of sanitizers and to take personal responsibility in order to save their families and loved ones."

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu says the State Government is ever willing and prepared to enter into productive partnerships with development partners, especially in the area of Agriculture for the good of the people of Abia State, IgbereTV reports.

The Governor stated this while receiving in audience a delegation of the World Bank Funded Agro Processing Productivity Enhancement & Livelihood Improvement Support (APPEALS) project led by National Procurement Specialist, Engr. Abdulgafar Kayode who called on him. He assured that the State would do everything within its powers including payment of second tranche of counterpart fund to ensure the project succeeds in Abia.

Governor Ikpeazu said the project is in line with his administration's agricultural policy maintaining that agriculture remains the key for sustainable development. He informed the delegation that he is establishing Agro based Cottage Industries in all the 17 LGAs in the State commencing with 7 pilot Local Government Areas, saying that it would reduce rural-urban drift in the State and improve the economy as agriculture has been known to provide jobs and raw materials for industries.
According to the Governor, machines for the 7 pilot LGAs procured from the TinyTech Corporation of India have already arrived the State.

Governor Ikpeazu equally disclosed that the State Government has already established Abia State Marketing and Quality Control Agency that ensures standardization of agricultural products produced in the State.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof. Ikechi Mgboji informed that the State is ready for the project. He said, they have shown the team the office provided for it and vehicles made available for it as well as taken them to poultry cluster, farm settlements among others. He expressed hope that with the level of preparedness, Abia State would be qualified for the project.

Earlier in his speech, the leader of the delegation and National Procurement Specialist, Agro Processing Productivity Enhancement & Livelihood Improvement Support (APPELIS) project , Engr. Abdulgafar Kayode said the team was in the State to ascertain the readiness of the State in participating in the special agricultural project and to finalize discussions in that regard.
He appreciated the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for supporting the project in the State and for being the first to pay counterpart fund for the project. He said the team is happy with what the Governor is doing, adding that since the program is equally in line with the Governor's policy thrust, he would authorize thr payment of the second tranche of the Counterpart Fund.

A hit-and-run driver has killed a 28-year-old man identified simply as Daniel in Ughelli, Delta state, IgbereTV reports.

The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, January 7, along the Ughelli axis of the East-West road.

It was gathered that the deceased worked as a security guard in an undisclosed firm in Ughelli and was returning to Agbarha-Otor, near Ughelli in Ughelli North Local Government on his bicycle after completing a night shift when he was knocked down by the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle said to be in top speed fled the scene immediately after the accident occurred while the deceased died on the spot.

His remains was taken to the Ughelli Central Hospital morgue.
