Operatives of Crack Squad, Enugu State Police Command have arrested one Dr. Chigozie Odum, said to be a senior lecturer at the Archeology Department of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), IgbereTV reports.

The lecturer was arrested for allegedly impregnating a student identified as Onah Chinyere and threatening her.

A petition from the family lawyer of the female student led to the arrest of the lecturer. It read;

“It is our client’s instruction that she has been a student in the Archeology and Tourism Department, Faculty of Arts, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

“According to her instructions, Dr. Odum Chigozie Jude is one of the lecturers in the said department.

“Our brief further showed that the said Dr. Odum Jude went and approached our client and demanded to be sleeping with her and threatened our client that if she refuses, she will never graduate from the said department.

“He further threatened her that he was a cultist while in school and that up till today he still has a good number of them under his payroll. He, therefore, warned our client to comply with his demands and requests in her own interest.

“Our information further showed that he called our client to his house and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her."

Some kidnappers were caught on Monday 8th February in Benin City Forests, IgbereTV has learnt.

Reports has it that one of them came to town to buy food to feed their victims.

The youths became suspicious of the large quantity of the food, mobilised soldiers to trail him.

The Lagos State Ministry of Justice in collaboration with the State TaskForce on Environmental and Special Offences on Monday, February 8, supervised the public auction of 83 forfeited vehicles, IgbereTV reports.

The auctioned vehicles were earlier impounded in different areas of the state and at different times for contravening the one-way traffic law in the state.

In January 2021, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit secured a court order to auction the vehicles.

The auction exercise was held today at the premises of the State Taskforce in Alausa, Ikeja in accordance with the forfeiture order of the Court. In attendance were the Chairman of the State Taskforce, the Coordinator of the State Special Offences Mobile Court, and representatives of the Ministry of Justice and a large number of residents of the state.

Speaking to Journalists during the Auction, the Coordinator, Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court, Mrs Arinola Ogbara said;

"There is a lot of processes and transparency to the public auction. Moreso, some of the people whose cars were seized have been told to pay a fine without their cars being forfeited based on the strength of evidence they presented at the Mobile Court. Driving against traffic (one way) has caused a huge number of accidents and untold losses to property and human lives."

On his part, the Chairman of the State Taskforce, CSP Shola Jejeloye, while speaking with newsmen said the auction exercise was not meant to punish but to correct.

''I do not see what we have come to do today as an auction but as a correction and detterent for some Lagosians. The Lagos Commissioner of Police has instructed us to go out there as policemen and do our best to ensure free flow of traffic" he said

The auction exercise was conducted by a licensed Auctioneer, Mr Ade Onanuga, of CR Limited Auction House.

It Is Deceitful To Think That bandits Who Are Counting Millions Will Embrace Dialogue And Return To Lifestyle Of Seeing Little Money Occasionally - Governor El-Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has explained why banditry has continued in the North West region of the country, IgbereTV reports.

Speaking in an interview on BBC Hausa on Monday February 8 following the killing of 18 people by suspected bandits in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Saturday February 6, El-Rufai said it's been difficult to tackle banditry in the region because every state is fighting it in its own way.

The Kaduna state Governor stated that it will be difficult to succeed in the fight against banditry if states in the region don't come together to ask the "federal government to provide them with soldiers and police to enter the bush and kill all the bandits".

Also speaking against granting amnesty to the bandits, El-Rufai added that it will be deceitful to think that someone who is counting millions as gains from ransom will embrace dialogue and return to his previous lifestyle where he saw little money occasionally.

He said;

“As a result, every state is fighting in it own way. If we cannot come together for the federal government to provide us with soldiers and police to enter the bush and kill all the bandits, it will be difficult to succeed in the fight against banditry.

“There is no synergy among the governors in the northwest on how to end the banditry. But Kaduna is collaborating with Niger State on modalities to end the killings by the gunmen.

“State like Zamfara adopted a policy of dialogue with the gunmen, giving them amnesty, which I don’t believe in. With this, we have differences on how to tackle the situation.

“We sat together with the governors in Katsina but we disagreed on how to tackle the criminality. Some believed on dialogue while others didn’t.

“It is deceitful to believe that a person who is now counting millions as gains from ransom will embrace dialogue and return to his previous lifestyle where he saw little money occasionally."
