The communique of the Abia State Security was presented by General Azubuike Ihejirika (RTD) on 28th May, 2021, IgbereTV reports.

"Communique of Abia State Security Roundtable

The Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu ably Represented by the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu.

Mr. Chairman, permit me to stand on existing protocol

I have before me the Communique issued at the end of the Abia State Security Summit held from 26th to 28th May, 2021 at the Conference Hall of The Hotel Royal Damgrate, Abia State.

The Abia State Government conscious of its primary constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the lives and property of its citizens and visitors, convened a Three-Day Stakeholders Summit on Security to brainstorm with experts on the subject and proffer solutions on how to sustain a peaceful and safe Abia State.

The Summit had in attendance the Governor of the State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, his Deputy, Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and all members of the State Security Council, Heads of all Security Agencies in the State, Chairman of Local Government Areas and their Deputies, State Chairman of Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers and his Deputies, Chairmen of Traditional Rulers Advisory Council in Local Government Areas, and all retired officers of Abia origin of the Army, Police, Navy, Airforce and Department of State Services from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or its equivalent.

At the end of the deliberations Chaired by Lieutenant General Onyeabor Azubuike Ihejirika CFR, the following resolutions were arrived at by the Summit;

1. The Summit commended Abia State Governor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu PhD for the thoughtfulness of convoking the State Roundtable Security Summit tagged: ABIA STATE SECURITY SUMMIT 2021 and for inviting senior security officers of Abia State origin to avail the State of their experience and expertise.

2. The Summit commended the Abia State Government for its untiring efforts so far in tackling headlong security situation in the State through credible support to security agencies in the State, constant interface and interactions as well as launching of a number of homegrown solutions to the problem of insecurity.

3. The Summit commended law enforcement officers serving in Abia State for their professionalism and dedication to their duty even in the face of obvious targeted attacks and urged them to remain steadfast in their primary responsibility of securing the state and its citizens.

4. The Summit condemned in very strong terms the attacks on security formations in the State and commiserated with the Nigerian Police, other security agencies, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who have lost personnel and assets, and emphatically stated that such dastardly acts are not healthy for the state and region.

5. The Summit noted the existence of Anti-Open Grazing Law of Abia State and recommended its enforcement.

6. The Summit resolved that there should be devolution of power to Local Governments on matters concerning security for effective security of the State. Every Local Government Chairman in Abia State would be required to work with existing and homegrown structures to ensure the security of their local councils.

7. The Summit recommended a new security architecture by the Abia State Government that will incorporate a community based vigilante services, Homeland Security, (CPAMS) and ABSAS, all of which will work in conjunction with the statutory security agencies to enhance the security and safety of the State.

8. The Summit called on the citizenry to continue to work with the security agencies in Abia State in the area of providing information noting that perpetrators of these nefarious acts are from amongst the people and with robust information management system, it will be easy to apprehend them.

9. The Summit urged security agencies to effectively manage information given to them by informants to avoid backlash against the informants and called for the establishment of an effective incentive system to encourage more people to come forward with information on the activities of criminal elements in the State.

10. The Summit urged traditional rulers in Abia State to continue to play active roles in securing their domains noting that they are very important in the security equation because of their proximity to the people and knowledge of people resident in their domains.

11. The Summit recommended the review of the curfew in Abia North Senatorial Zone from 6pm to 6am, to 8pm to 6am.

12. The Summit called for more stringent crackdown on illicit drug usage in the State as coloration exists between drug use and criminal activities. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency should intensify efforts in ridding the State of illicit drug dealers and users.

13. The Summit called on the Abia State Government to continue to create the enabling environment for human security by providing more jobs, and other economic opportunities for the teeming youths of Abia State so that they would be gainfully employed and be less inclined to criminality.

14. The Summit urged the involvement of the State Legislature in the fight against criminality in Abia State by getting them to expeditiously pass laws that will ensure the security of the State.

15. The Summit urged heads of tertiary institutions in Abia State to continue to evolve robust innovaions to curb the issue of cultism and other criminal activities associated with tertiary institutions.

16. The Summit urged greater inter-agency collaboration among security agencies in Abia State. It called for the creation of a robust central information sharing system that will enable other security agencies to be abreast of efforts of other agencies.

17. The Summit urged the Abia State Government to, apart from the Abia State Security Council, constitute an Abia State Scurity Advisory Committee made up of serving and retired senior security officers from the State to continue to advise the State Government on security issues based on their experiences.

The Nigeria Minister of Defence committed a grammatical blunder during the burial of the Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, and officers who died in a plane crash on Friday, May 21 2021, IgbereTV reports.

Governor Ifeanyi #Ugwuanyi delivers to standard, first state government’s asphalted road and solar-powered street lights, in #Ohodo, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of #Enugu State, since its creation, in line with his administration’s rural development agenda aimed at creating new urban centres for socio-economic activities as well as accommodate the long-neglected in the rural communities, IgbereTV reports.

Ohodo has been in the news of recent, following the establishment and siting of a Federal Polytechnic in the Community, by the administration of President Muhammadu #Buhari, sequel to a request made by Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration.

The Technical Team from Federal Ministry of #Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has visited the site in Ohodo and the state government is cooperating with the Federal Government to ensure commencement of academic activities in October this year, as scheduled.

"In May 2006, 14 to be precise. I was involved in a ghastly motor accident on my way back from church. The driver and rider took off thinking me dead. It was worshippers from ECWA English, Airport Road, Kano that recognized me and raised alarm.

I didn’t realize I was that way as I could hear and see everything that was going on but couldn’t process any information.

The best neurosurgeons in Kano were brought in, name a doctor that was needed and he was summoned because of Mercy Umoh (they loved her and she is really good with her profession) - they all agreed it was better I slipped through the sleep because, if I didn’t... life would be really hard and I wouldn’t be able to use my brain. Oh my parents and their faith in God.

Weeks into my stay in hospital- my friends Late Ada Ononogbu and Uzoma Tony Cheta found out and took turns to take care of me everyone waiting for the final day. Oh, my friend Uzoma was distraught he just kept saying ‘Mmanti you better not go anywhere’.

I didn’t go anywhere then, still here now. Somedays, ‘situation tells me to believe I should believe all hope is gone and from the looks of things I should be crying, but because I know who I trust my heart tells me to rejoice, my hope in God keeps telling me to hold on’.

It’s 15 years yesterday, my parents just woke me this morning with a thanksgiving song.

I made it. I have executed the toughest policy projects round Africa, worked the longest hours and excelled in ways Abba shows it can only be with Him. If you work on my team - you know it’s work. President Buhari's spokesperson, Garba Shehu stated that the President plans to celebrate eid which marks the end of fasting in his house and does not want to receive visitors.

PRESIDENT BUHARI TO MARK EID IN THE VILLA, PLANS MODEST CELEBRATION AT HOME

As Muslims in Nigeria join others globally in preparations towards Eid Al-Fitr, a day that is celebrated to mark the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting, President Buhari directs that all celebrations be limited due to the global Coronavirus crisis.

To this effect, the President, First Family, his personal aides, members of cabinet and Service Chiefs who choose to remain in Abuja will congregate in full compliance with COVID-19 protocols at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa to observe the Eid prayers. Time fixed for the prayer is 9:00am.

Thereafter, there will be no traditional Sallah homage to the President by religious, community and political leaders. As was the case last year, the President encourages such leaders to be content with modest celebrations at home in view of the pandemic.

President Buhari specially thanks the Ulama (Islamic Clerics) and all other religious (Muslim, Christian) leaders who continue to pray for the wellbeing of the nation and its people.

The President, in addition, takes this opportunity to condole with all who lost family members due to what he described as the 'madness' going on in parts of the country.

The President calls on all local leaders to talk to their youths and warn them against being used to incite and foment violence.

"If we attack institutions guarding us," the President wonders, "who will protect us in future emergencies?"

A 15-year-old boy identified as Emmanuel Ameh, has been electrocuted in Achusah area of Makurdi, the Benue State.

IgbereTV gathered that the deceased, a student of Benue State University Technical College, died due to the alleged negligence of the staff of Jos Electricity Distribution Company, JED, in Makurdi.

Uncle to the deceased, Samuel Olokpo who spoke to journalists on Thursday, April 22, said officials of JED came to the house when everyone had gone to work and disconnected electric lines belonging to four households.

"On Monday morning, April 19, when everybody had gone to work and school, JED staff went to do their round of disconnection of customers who were indebted to the company. In the afternoon, some of our neighbours’ kids were playing around the pole and one of them made contact with the wire, his name is Emeka, a little boy of about five years, and was shocked. He ran to Emmanuel who just came back from school to complain, being the most senior at home," Mr Olokpo narrated.

“A neighbour, Jonathan Agi saw what was happening and rushed to the scene, used a dry stick to pushed him away. The other persons came too and they were able to intervene. They cut off the wire that had power. He was rushed to the nearby Ushaka Clinic and Bishop Murray Hospital, all in Makurdi, where he was pronounced dead. The Police come and helped us conveyed his body to Benue State University Teaching Hospital mortuary where it as-deposited,” he said.

Mr Olokpo also disclosed that top engineers from the JED office in Makurdi visited on Wednesday to condole with the family over the incident.

"So DSS Nigeria has a petition from my family in their office and for the past 6 months have refused to attend to it. If there is anything I hate the most is having to put out private issues but from this part of the world,authorities have a way of not urgently attending to life threatening issues. Should I start posting video evidences of this criminal act before actions will be taken against all the parties involved? Or should we continue to be quiet while innocent citizens die everyday in this country? I need everyone’s opinion please. @dssnigeria"

A Nigerian man was rescued alive after being trapped under a container that had fallen, for more than two hours in Surulere, Lagos state on Thursday April 1, IgbereTV reports.

The man was said to be driving with his wife along Stadium road when the container fell from the trailer conveying it on top of his car. He was trapped for more than 2 hours. Thankfully help came and he was rescued alive. He has since been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
