IgbereTV reports that Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo this morning represented President Muhammadu Buhari at the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja and also headlines the MSMES Clinic in Delta State.

The 2nd Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS) is convened by Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in collaboration with Nigeria Diaspora and Alumni Network (NIDAN). The theme of the Summit is: Leveraging Diaspora Resources for Economic Growth.

The Summit is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Nigeria Investment Promotion Council (NIPC), Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), and Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC).

Recall that Osinbajo launched the MSME (Micro Small And Medium Enterprises) Clinic in 2017 as part of efforts to encourage the contributions of MSMEs to Nigeria’s economic growth.

IgbereTV reports that a medical doctor, popularly known on Twitter as Aproko Doctor, has narrated how he was accosted by SARS officers in Mile 2, Lagos state.

He tweeted: "SARS almost picked me today o I was at Mile 2 about to pick a bike to Costain when one man just walked up to me Hello, who are you and may I know what do you do? My heart rate increased. My turn has finally come Another one materialised from nowhere with one scraggy ID card."

He added: "They pointed to one small white bus, that I should enter so we could discuss further Me: I am a medical doctor and I have an emergency right now! I had to lie "Identify yourself then" I took out my ID card and showed them He gave the other signal and said you can go."

He concluded his narration, writing: "So if you like have tattoo, have a low cut or dada, they can just walk up to you and force you to enter an unmarked vehicle Why? What sort of policing is that?"

IgbereTV reports that a 13-year-old girl has died after being beaten by her half-sister for bed-wetting.

Precious Omenka,13, was staying with her older half-sister Nneka and Nneka's mother Seki Eko in Lekki, Lagos when she was brutally beaten, eventually leading to her death, their father said.

Mr. Emeka Omenka, the father of the deceased, said he had Nneka out of wedlock with Seki Eko. He later got married and his wife Ifeoma raised Nneka as her own as she found it hard conceiving her first child.

Mr Emeka Omenka said his older daughter Nneka asked that her younger sister Precious pays her a visit. Precious went to Nneka’s house in Ikota, Lekki on October 12, but was returned on October 16 looking weak with complaints of body pains. She informed her parents that she had been beaten by Nneka and her mother Seki Eko for wetting the bed.

Mr Omenka said Precious gave details of how she was kicked in the stomach, chest and sides several times. She added that she was beaten with a mop stick and a cable as well.

Precious, a JSS 3 student, was taken to Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Ebute Metta where she died on October 25 from complications resulting from the beating she allegedly received from her half-sister Nneka and Nneka's mother.


According to information gathered by IgbereTV, Precious' death certificate revealed that the primary and secondary causes of death were Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and Cardiopulmonary Collapse.

Reacting to his daughter's death, Mr Omenka said: "I am in pain. My heart is broken. Nneka is my first daughter. I had her out of wedlock with one Seki Eko I was in a relationship with. Nneka was trained by my wife Ifeoma who loved her like her own child.

"When I got married to my wife, it was difficult for her to conceive and so she brought up Nneka like her own child. So, when she came and said Precious should come to her place, we did not have any reason to deny her request.

"Her husband lives in Dubai. She promised to send her to a private school to appreciate my wife for taking care of her.

"Precious went to her place on October 12. It was that weekend that it rained all through. Then, on October 14, which was a Monday, it also rained and Precious said she peed on the bed. That was her offence that made my daughter and her mother to descend on her like that.

"When they finished, they brought her back and dumped her at my place in Apapa Road, Ebute Metta. She was complaining of body pains and narrated what happened to her at her sister’s place in tears. I could not bear it and I wept as she was talking.

"My wife and I bought painkillers that we gave her. My wife was also using hot water and cloth to massage her body. We did not know that it was so bad. When we saw that she was not getting better despite the painkillers, we decided to take her to FMC because that’s where she was born.

"She was already stooling on her body and her mother was cleaning it. So, at the hospital, she was rushed to the emergency room after the doctors said she was short of blood. They did so many tests and scans and discovered that she was bleeding internally and that her bladder burst too.

"She was in the hospital some days and was booked for emergency surgery. I was busy running around to raise money to save my daughter’s life. I even borrowed from friends and family members so that she could be saved but at last we lost her.

"Nneka did not tell me what happened to my daughter and did not even come to the hospital until her relative from her mother’s side who works at the FMC called her to rebuke her. That was when she came and spent about N14,000 on my daughter’s drugs that day.

"I did not go to the police station then because I was busy running around for my daughter to be alright. But after she passed on…my kinsmen advised I report at the station. I went to Denton Police Station and Iponri but they told me it did not happen in their jurisdiction and that I should go to Lekki to report.

"I just sent a message to her husband and told him what she did. My wife has been inconsolable since then.

"I want justice for my daughter. I feel very disappointed that this happened to my family. I want human rights to come and government to investigate this case. Nneka is my daughter but Precious is also my daughter and she did not deserve to die like that," he said.

It was gathered that Nneka told those around her that her younger sister died as a result of ruptured appendicitis, adding that the girl was ill before she took her to her house.

But the mother of the deceased told the publication that she was still in shock over the incident and denied insinuations that Precious might have been ill.

She said: "My daughter was very healthy and even cooked for her younger ones that day before following Nneka. Nneka and her mother should explain what happened to my daughter. Nneka was brought to my house when she was 17 and we trained her in the university. I never did any wrong to her and then, she chose to pay me back this way?"

Meanwhile, a coalition of child advocates has volunteered to take over the case and ensure justice.

Sources at the police station said an order to exhume the teenager’s body would be sought so that autopsy could be conducted.

Police spokesman Bala Elkana confirmed the case was reported at Ajiwe Division in Ajah, adding that the suspects have been arrested.

IgbereTV reports that there has been jubilation among civil servants in Adamawa State since they heard that Governor of the State Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has ordered the payment of the new minimum wage of N30, 000 to all workers in the State.

The implementation of the new wage will start from November 2019, according to a statement signed by the Director-General, Media and Communications, Solomon Kumangar.

By this act, Governor Fintiri becomes the first governor in the North East of Nigeria to order the commencement of the minimum wage paid to civil servants.

IgbereTV reports that Cairo Ojougboh, the Interim Executive Director of Project, Niger Delta Development Commission, Cairo Ojougboh, has raised the alarm over allegation of about N3trillion Naira ghost contract in the commission.

The NDDC Boss also alleged that an unnamed serving senator involved in the screening of the NDDC board was behind the 300 ghost contract jobs with the commission.

He said about 120 of the contracts have been fully paid for by the commission without the senator mobilising workforce to sites. While being interviewed by journalists in Abuja, the former member of the House of Representatives said 10 audit firms had been employed to audit the financial records of the NDDC.

Ojougboh said, “The NDDC is owing over N3tn to phantom contractors. It is these contractors that are making this noise because they know the interim management will not compromise.

“The genuine contractors have not been paid while phantom contractors have been paid. Some of the contracts have been terminated but the contractors failed to return money.”

Meanwhile, a Niger Delta group, Niger Delta People Confederation, on Sunday, rejected the interim committee set up by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio.

The NDPC in a statement jointly signed its Coordinator-General and the Secretary-General, Mr Iyamu Osaro Culture and Mr Ovie Kenneth, respectively, faulted the composition of the three-man committee and demanded their immediate sacking by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group also called for the disbandment of the forensic audit report of the committee, alleging that it was self-serving and skewed to suit Akpabio’s interest and not Nigerians.

But Akpabio said the call for his removal would not deter him from his determination to ensure that those who did not deliver the projects paid for by the commission were made to account for the money they got.

A statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations at the ministry, Patricia Deworitshe, said the minister stated this during a visit by the Akwa-Cross ex-agitators to his office in Abuja on Friday.

According to the statement from Deworitshe, Akpabio said so much money had been given to the NDDC over the years but nothing commensurate was on the ground.

The statement read, “The minister promised to reposition the Niger Delta Development Commission by making life better for the people of the region, vowing that he would not be deterred by the campaign of calumny by some faceless individuals who have benefitted over the years from commission.”

IgbereTV reports that the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, has launched its policy against sexual harassment where amorous hugging between lecturers and female students is now an offence with those found guilty punished severely.

Professor Ndowa E. S. Lale, the Vice Chancellor of the University, who stated this at the launch of the policy ceremony, which held at Ebitime Banigo hall said the University decided to raise the bar on sexual harassment to ensure that the young men and women put in the charge of lecturers are protected, especially from antics of sexual predators who use their privileged positions to blackmail or railroad their unwilling students or subordinate staff into granting them sexual favours.

He said the management of the University in the policy document defined the rules of engagement in terms of the acceptable of engagement between lecturers, administrators and students, including visitors to the university. Prof Ndowa vowed that sanctions would be meted to earring members of staff but added that there was a robust in built checks and balances to protect those who are innocently accused.

He also warned that any person so accused would be presumed guilty until he or she could prove otherwise under the established rules of fair hearing. Prof Ndowa also warned that henceforth, lectures and administrators who did not remember to tell their tailors to sew zippers in front of their trousers should be ready to bear the consequences of their amorous liaison with female students.

He warned that the same applied to students who harassed lecturers to award them undeserved grades, saying they should equally be ready to face the music if and when caught in the act of trying to get their lecturer's attention.

On Sunday, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said that the partial closure of all Nigerian land borders is still in force and that no date has been set for their reopening, IgbereTV reports.

The NCS made this known while reacting to a report which referenced an internal memo of the service setting January 31, 2020 as date for the reopening of the borders which were abruptly closed August 20.

Spokesman of the NCS, Joseph Attah, however, explained that the internal memo did not set any date for the reopening of the borders. He explained that the memo was only referring to the terminal date of the Joint Security Exercise Swift Response, which was inaugurated to enforce the closures.

He maintained that the partial border closure will still remain in force until its set objectives are achieved.

He said, “Please note that the internal memo is referring to the end of this phase of the joint security Ex Swift Response and not a terminal date for the partial border closure. Security operation of this kind is usually in phases.

“The partial border closure will continue until the set objectives are achieved,” the statement said.

On Sunday, a leaked memo became public which said that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the extension of the ongoing closure of Nigeria’s borders to January 31, 2020.

The communication explained that the decision was announced in a memo signed and dated November 1, 2019, by Victor Dimka, Deputy Comptroller of Customs in charge of Enforcement, Investigation and Inspectorate, and addressed to sector coordinators of the Joint Border Operation Drill – Sectors 1, 2, 3, and 4.

In the memo, Dimka was quoted to have said the operation (Exercise Swift Response) has recorded “overwhelming success,” considering its benefits to the nation’s economy and security.”

He said, “I am directed to inform you that it is observed that despite the overwhelming success of the operation, particularly the security and economic benefits to the nation, a few strategic objectives are yet to be achieved.

“Against this background, Mr. President has approved the extension of the exercise to January 31, 2020.

“Consequently, you are requested to convey the development to all personnel for their awareness and guidance.

“Meanwhile, allowance for personnel sustenance and fuelling of vehicles for the period of extension will be paid as soon as possible.

“This is for your information and necessary action, please.”

Finance Minister, Zainab Ahmed, had explained that the Federal Government’s decision to partially close the country’s borders were also intended to contain the influx of arms and drugs, aside the principal desire to stop food smuggling.

“It’s not only about illegal food shipments,” Ahmed had said, adding, “It’s also about security because that’s how ammunition comes into our country and that’s how drugs that are destroying our children also come into our country.”
