PoliticsIslamic Council Asks IGP To Interrogate Bishop Of Nsukka Over 'Hate Speech' by benjackugo(op):
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has accused Catholic bishop of Nsukka, Godfrey Onah of triggering the recent attack on Muslims in the local government area in which two mosques were burnt and businesses destroyed, IgbereTV reports.

The NSCIA in its petition to the Inspector-General of Police, alleged that Onah's "hateful and inciteful sermon, full of lies and fallacies" incited the violence and virulent attack on Muslims in Nsukka.

According to NSCIA in a petition signed by its deputy secretary general Salisu Shehu, the "massacre of Muslims in the South-East and South-South if left unchecked could surely ignite reprisals in other parts of the country, especially the North."

It read;

“On Saturday, 31 October, 2020, as a result of a hateful and inciteful sermon, full of lies and fallacies, delivered by one Bishop, Reverend Father Godfrey Igwebuike Onah, some Christians unleashed violent and virulent attack on Muslims in Nsukka and burnt their Mosques.

“We are yet to confirm the number of casualties. In the sermon attached, it was clear that the Bishop instigated the worshippers against Mosques and Muslims.

“The recurrence of these kinds of incessant arson and massacre of Muslims in the South-East and South-South if left unchecked could surely ignite reprisals in other parts of the country, especially the North. It has therefore become imperatively urgent to proactively bring an end to these criminality.

“In view of the above, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), on behalf of the entire Nigerian Muslim Ummah hereby reiterates our call on you Sir, to rise up to this challenge and protect the lives and property of Muslims in the South-East and South-South as bonafide citizens of Nigeria who should live peacefully in any part of the Country.

“Specifically, we also implore you to as a matter of urgency interrogate Reverend Father Godfrey Igwebuike Onah on his hate speech, inciteful sermon of lies fabricated to provoke hatred for the Muslims.”

Foreign AffairsLizzo Dresses Half-Nude In US Flag; Sends Powerful Message On Election Day (Pix) by benjackugo(op):
American singer, Lizzo took to Instagram to deliver a powerful message to encourage her fans to stay determined and hopeful as they go out to vote on the last day of the US presidential election, IgbereTV reports.

The 32-year-old singer shared the encouraging words alongside a photo of herself half-dressed in a US flag that barely covered her body.

She wrote in the post:

"When I think of this country I don’t think of its laws I think of its people.

I think about how we were raised to be patriotic of violence, propaganda & war.

I think about how this country is owned by the oppressor and how the oppressed are locked in a valley of capitalism.

But I also think of the young people who refuse to be spoon fed mistruths. I think of the elders who bucked against hateful prejudices even when it felt impossible....

Because of you, I’m still hopeful.

I believe in a country that teaches the true history so we can better understand where we live and how we can do better.

I believe in a country that listens to the cries of the protester and doesn’t politicize death.

I believe in restoration of this beautiful land and respecting the communities of people who owned America before colonizers renamed it.

I believe in fairness, equality, a complete removal of religion in places where it does not belong. Let religion live in the churches and places of worship... the quiet prayer rooms, the joyful congregations.. and out of Congress.

I believe in so much, and if I believe it one day I can see it. It may not be tomorrow it may not be today, but it will be one day if we stay activated.

We the people, ALL the people, deserve it.
Today’s the last day to vote. Stay in line, stay determined and thank YOU for voting."

A Twitter user asked Aisha Yesufu how she handles her home and the socio-political activist responded, IgbereTV reports.

It began when YouTuber Sisi Yemmie asked why women are always expected to be polite, humble, and not too confident.

She tweeted:

"I don't know why there's so much pressure on women to be more polite, stay humble, be confident but not too much. Society stays trying to police the way women communicate, dress, sit,

— basically, exist."
https://twitter.com/Sisi_Yemmie/status/1322469097930633216?s=19

Aisha Yesufu responded to Sisi Yemmie's tweet, writing:

"As a teenager I watched as all the women who were called good wives were the ones that were abused and endured all sorts of crap and I made up my mind never to be one given the label of good! Reason I don't do label.
The freedom that comes from not needing that validation is."

A man then asked Aisha how she handles her home.

He wrote:

"Hello, this is a neutral question without hidden intent. How do you handle your home? Would you say your husband is the one who doesn't "call for the unnecessary push to be a kind of way" hence your love for him?"
https://twitter.com/Mg_Raph/status/1322494642525528064?s=19

And Aisha Yesufu, who has been married for 22 years, responded:

"I married a man not a little boy playing at being a man. My husband is the most practising feminist that I know. We have the same values and that makes things extremely easy. We have mutual respect for each other. He doesn't see me as handler of the house, he sees us as handlers."

Dominic Mudabai, the winner of Gulder Ultimate Search 2007, and wife, Tope, have welcomed their first child, a baby boy, IgbereTV reports.

The couple got married in August 2015. The proud new dad shared the good news in an open letter he wrote to his baby boy which he posted on his Instagram page this morning. It read;

"Dear Son,

We live in a time when no one wants to take the responsibility to say what's right and what's wrong,
when no one wants to be told what to believe or what not to believe, when people want to have titles but not work or be responsive to their functions, when people lack a sense of duty, where the lunatics have taken over the asylum and the doctors are the ones in straight jacket. You will come to realize that the world we have made is also the world we have failed.

You have made your way into this world. I want you to be a man of good heart, who reaches out to the world around him with an open mind and a gentle touch, I want you to be a man of belief but not a man of judgement, I want you to choose always to speak with empathy, caring and kindness no matter your voice or purpose, I want you to serve as a shepherd first and then a king, hold honor and truth at all times and never forget the son of whom you are as you journey to finding your rightful place in this world.

To be such a man, you must not be afraid to be vulnerable in times when it is required of you to stand up and to speak from your heart, you should create a place in your heart to hear voices that speak with empathy, compassion and realism about the issues of becoming a man.

And so I take my place among those attempting to provide such a voice as I watch with eager anticipation and anxiousness as you take your every step to finding your place amid the confusion and cacophony of life.

Having you brought clarity and an earnest wonder that has set me on a course that I think will reenergize my years to come, it showed me that I could, and should, indeed I must be my best self and like a wise and gentle friend, I will guide you to the truths that emerge when you approach life openly and honestly.

On this journey to you knowing God (which is a life-long journey), learning to love, living life, passing through the stages of manhood and the wisdom that comes thereof, God will encapsulate you and order your every step, you will always be a blessing of grace, your mother will be with you, I will hold your hand and guide you through your decisions. So help me God.

Yours Truly,

Daddy.''

Obaseki said: "I am worried about the level of criminality. Parts of the fight we had in our first term was the issue of maintaining law and order and fighting criminality as lots of these criminals hid under the cover of the godfathers who called them their infantry, lions and tigers.

"Without law and order, there can't be economic growth as no one will be able to invest. You could see them in the last few days, the way they came out pouncing on people’s private properties.”

He added, "The crisis in Edo is not the #ENDSARS protests but political as the government supports the #ENDSARS protests. Just as we defeated them in the election, we will contain them. With my #ENDSARS people, we are going to arrest them and put them back to the zoo.

According to him, his administration recognises the role played by youths in his re-election, adding that his administration plans to appoint 60 per cent of youths under the age of 40 in his second term in office.

The governor said his government has no problem with peaceful protests, adding, "I asked the police to give you protection but the leadership of the police have a choice to either obey me or not as I don't have power to fire the Police Commissioner.

"Our position as a government is to support the position of the #ENDSARS protesters as their demand is legitimate," assuring the youths that he is on their side.

He added: "The Panel of Inquiry is the first step to go and we have instructed that the number of members be increased to 20 to accommodate other groups. The panel has 90 days and I urge you all to give evidence to the panel which should be documented as it will enable us to work as we implement the report of the panel.

"Our security arrangements in the country must reflect our Federal system as I can't be a governor of a state and not be able to hire and fire my Commissioner of Police, but the #ENDSARS has helped us start the process.

The Public Works Volunteer (PUWOV) is a version of our neighborhood watch in the state. We have 900 people being trained. 1,100 others will be trained after this set and another 20 persons per ward will be hired to be in charge of public safety.

"As the governor, I will do everything within my power to have strong internal security as we need to protect ourselves.

Representative of the #ENDSARS protesters, Comrade Abraham Oviawe, said the peaceful protesters' demand emanated from the pains Nigerians have suffered over the years.

He thanked the governor for constituting the Judicial Panel of Inquiry to investigate the excesses of the disbanded members of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), urging him to ensure that the Panel does the right job for Edo people.

Oviawe urged the Nigeria Police to be civil in its dealings with members of the public, adding that the leadership of the Police will check the mode of operation of the anti-cultism unit of the Force.

"We urge your government to re-constitute the neighborhood watch and ensure the recruitment is open and transparent as it will assist and help community policing in Edo State," he added.

Representative of Civil Society Organisations in Edo State, Curtis Ogbebor, expressed appreciation to the governor for ensuring the lives of Edo citizens are safe.

He urged the state government to ensure it arrests those who fired shots leading to the death of peaceful protesters at Kingsquare in Benin City, Edo State.

Representative of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Steven Imafidon, said sixty per cent of victims of police brutality are students as their agitation is for the government to look into the welfare of police officers.

A University of Mkar lecturer, Moses Tarnongo, his wife and three children were killed in a ghastly accident in Benue State.

IgbereTV reports that two other persons including another University of Mkar lecturer, Joshua Leva also lost their lives in the accident which occurred on Saturday evening, October 10, at Gbatse community along Ugbema-Adikpo road in Ushongo local government area of the state.

The University Registrar, Rev. Emmanuel Astor, who confirmed the incident on Sunday in Makurdi, said Moses Tarnong was killed alongside his wife and three children. The two lecturers were from the department of Mass Communication.

The registrar said the victims were on transit to Adikpo, Kwande Local Government Area to see a one cleric when the incident happened.

According to eye-witness account, a trailer truck rammed into a stationary Toyota car with registration number MKD-300-NH, crushing the seven occupants to death.

The witness claimed that the driver of the truck purchased a fairly used car and kept it aboard and was about dodging a police check-point when he rammed into the Toyota car. Reports said it took hours to bring out the bodies from the crushed vehicle.

Confirming the incident, FRSC Public Enlightenment Officer in the state, DRC Joyce Akura, said the incident occurred along Ugbemea-Adikpo road late Saturday.

Akura said that the accident involved two vehicles – a truck with registration number WKR 496 XA and a Toyota car with registration number MKD 300 NH, adding that 12 passengers were involved in the crash.

She explained that seven passengers were confirmed dead, one was injured and was receiving treatment, while the remaining four escaped unhurt.

The FRSC official said the cause of the accident had yet to be ascertained, adding that the corps would conduct a “crash investigation’’ to determine the cause of the crash.

“Twelve passengers were involved in the crash; nine were males, three females. The accident was between two vehicles, a MAN-diesel truck with registration number WKR 496 XA and a Toyota car with registration number MKD 300 NH,’’ she said.

She said the dead bodies had already been deposited at a morgue in Ushongo.

A friend, Bright Yima Antyo, took to Facebook to mourn the deceased lecturers. He wrote:

"Mr Leva Joshua, I never knew the call you put across to me on Monday 5/10/20 was a call to see me for the last time. I had a patient in the hospital and could not make it to you, but we promised seeing afterwards which we didn't.

You were my lecturer but we became friends, you introduced me to your family and friends as if we were blood.
It's just so hard for me to believe you died in that crash.

Sir(the title you never wanted me to address you with), you were indeed a good man, ever sacrificing for other's comfort.

You will be greatly missed.

To even make it clumsy for me, you were with Mr Moses Tarnongo your friend and colleague who happens to be a brother to me with his wife and kids.

Kai, this day 10102020 is indeed a Black Day for UNIMKAR,
a Black Day for Mass Communication Department."
