I don't get you people. Some of you here think club football and National team football are the same, so you think things that work in club football automatically work in national team football. The plan of the Ghanaian team was to apply maximum pressure in the first 20/30 minutes or so and perhaps get a goal. You can see they faded out through the last 15 minutes or so. Nigeria has not played Ghana in a long time, and nobody really knows the strategy of the other coach per sey. He assumes the other coach will feature something so he tries to plan for it, in which case in some cases you will plan and still lose. Is Eguaveon a mind reader to know what the other coach is thinking about his plan, and so does something else? If we had lost then perhaps this craze would be warranted. Now, if he cannot properly strategize, now that he has more information, tried different midfield systems, then well calling for his head would be the way to go.
By the way, some were going crazy here about the 4 2 4 formation. We will concede so many goals, we will concede goals. Although they dominated the midfield and stifled our midfield system at least for the first 30 minutes, they were toothless. Then he took Aribo out(even though i would have preferred that he kept him in, as we were doing well in the last 15 minutes, and Aribo was almost always in the thick of it, but i understand) to increase the numbers in the midfield, then the midfield looked much better. |

An equalizer from the Black Stars means we lose by away goals (if the match finishes that way). Take it easy Sir. Nomyth: Man, stop repeating this line and using it to justify players in league one.
Well, for starters, Aribo's case is an exception and not the rule as Aribo is an exceptionally gifted player.
Enyeama was first invited to the NT as Enyimba's second choice goalkeeper ( same as Noble now), will u continue to use that as justification to keep inviting bench warmers in the NPFL to the NT?
Do u know Yisa Shofoluwe was taken straight from the street to the NT, will u continue using that as justification to bring players from the street to the NT?
Like I said, these are more of exceptions than the rule so stop regurgitating this line. |

Sorry, has De Gea ever been good at penalties even though he has been a world-class goalkeeper for decades? Saving penalties has never been a major criterion for judging a goalkeeper. You using this was why I asked if you were ok(even though I wasn't that serious about it). If you really want to critique Enyeama's goalkeeping, provide reachable examples(good luck with this), not just throw, 'he wasn't at his commanding best", then we'll take you seriously, and then tell us he wasn't good at reading penalties. That is a terrible terrible example. Besides, you don't seem to get it. Getting better doesn't mean you were not good. And we didn't need him to be at his commanding best anyway, we needed him to be good. Maduka hasn't even been ok. minfelix: I guess you are not okay!.. Enyeama was not at his commanding best at the 2004 afcon... His poor penalty reading was a testament to that..he came back better and more experienced in 2006... So we are asking you all to allow okoye command respect and gradually impose his presence so as to age well with super eagles |

Good question. If you like someone, you just cannot help yourself but grasp at straws. We are all guilty of this. M7even: It's one thing to defend okoye , but then it's another thing to push his blame on another person. What kind of goalkeeper trainer were the likes of Ike shoromu , Vincent enyeama and ikema having while they were replicating confidence inspiring performances.
My prayers are that he has improved , I want a man of the match performance from him, it's not too much to ask for. Others do it. But I pray the Ghanaian side do not peg us down so much that we will need our goal keeper to inspire us to a favorable result. |

Are you ok Sir? Is saving a penalty any of the top criteria for judging a goalkeeper? Can a good goalkeeper not get better? The fact that he made those saves in the 2010/2014 world cup doesn't make him any less good prior. He just got better and better with age. Enyeama aged well, unlike most of those that came before him. minfelix: Bros in afcon 2004 Enyeama we saw was a bit of an upgraded version of shaky okoye... The penalty shootout against Tunisian he made so many wrong reading and wrong move towards penalty direction... but he came back better stronger and more experienced against the same Tunisia in 2006... From there he announced his goalkeeping masterclass to the world... We saw him replicate same penalty shootout against Zambia.. we saw him replicate brilliant saves against Messi in 2010 2014... We saw him leading Nigeria to the African glory in 2013... so to me we started enjoying eyeama from African 2006 |

Please, please, away with this. Is Uzoho not only one year older? . Besides, that's not the point. Okoye is a ready-made basket. When he's in and there's a dangerous advance by our opponents, he creates the impression that he will fumble it somehow. . This is not to say Uzoho is any better, because I watched our last group game in the nations cup, in which he featured. There was a sequence, where I thought Uzoho was a potential basket too. . But well I just feel bad about how he was kicked out of that position, thanks to Rohr, even though I admit his injury was part of a sequence of events. Fortunately for us, Rohr is no longer in charge, so if the current coaching staff deem it fit to feature him over Uzoho, then maybe they are seeing something we are not. minfelix: I'm not totally sold in okoye...but you guys should chill... the guy is doing a good job at his club with his young age... Even inyama has been beaten by cheap goals and set pieces. 1. Angola slapped us in 2006 with set piece 2. Egyptians used short to almost blind Enyeama at afcon 2010 with loads of goals 3. Kenya humbled us (defending champion) with a breathe taking free kick in Calabar 4. Inyama allowed in a very cheap goal against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa World Cup qualifiers. So you guys you free okoye... He's a young and vibrant goalkeeper for the future starting from the here and now
Just take a lookout at the Ghana version of okoye...wollacot abi wtin b him name... correct basket but yet the ghanaians are so determined that they will beat us on all the social media outlet.... Whereas one of our top Nigerian fan base site nairaland is filled with all sort of pessimist claiming to be football analyst pointing out baseless and dry fault from one player to the other... |

Talent had been the most important factor for players for a very long time. The South Americans dominated partly because of this and the immeasurable determination, which became a culture. They found solace in football. It worked. They were tremendously successful, and that culture continues to turn out players with some talent and the will to get out of their situation. They were ahead of others with respect to that pervasive will. This teaches us that sheer will is an incredibly forceful trait to have. With some talent, the will instilled by the culture could carry you very far. The Europeans were not as motivated. They were content with dominating in other areas of life. The more sophisticated technical development that we are talking about has only been recent. Now we have a situation where talent is nowhere as important as it was. The importance of tactical input and technical ability have be on the rise for a while now. In fact it is becoming more difficult to tell talent apart from technical ability. For example, Messi is what you get when you mold a highly gifted player in an environment that encourages technical development. I wasn't even only talking about Brazil. There was a time when the championship of the world cup was alternating between Europe(Germany and Italy) and South America. But that has changed in the last 20 years. It is possible that there has been a change in the requirements for success in football. Perhaps the South Americans are still ahead in tactical know-how, with respect to coaching and game schemes, long term and short term. But for technical development, I am not so sure. TheGoodJoe: First of all, we can not be close in tactical training than the Brazilians. The clubs in Brazil do a good job in early scouting and training. They may not have as much tactical training as the Europeans but they are far ahead of us in that sense.
There is no easy way out but the Truth. It is easier to take a player from one of the European academies and groom into a team than Africans, due to their early training.
What Africans do is meet up in other factors with hard work and training. With time they build tactically but coaches like Guardiola will mostly opt for Highly trained European players. |

No, don't run away with that 'We Africans are behind' argument. Don't find an easy way out. You can do better. . He had the opportunity to work with some of the very best African players and he still kicked them out. . You can be in awe and still acknowledge he did so and so. The South Americans are not that far off in tactical illiteracy, although they have had incredibly talented players, and the means for them to rise to the top. That is not to say he has not been successful with his choices. He has been, and perhaps that is what matters. But i do not know who we would be if we didn't hate him for not playing African players. TheGoodJoe:
We Africans are behind tactically and we need to do more in tactical education.
I once read in Spain, before a player moves from most academies to senior football, they have over 700 games, tactically analysed under their belt.
In academies in Spain, UEFA pro licensed coaches coach them.
So these players will have an edge with respect to tactical acumen.
Which makes a coach like Guardiola to prefer them. Not that he has a thing against African players. |

I am quite surprised that you consider this article useful. Apart from the fact that the author recounted his stints at various clubs in the championship and the fact that he led Brighton to promotion. I do not know where the title 'one of the most underrated managers' fits in. When we are unable to roll with those at the top, we resort to using some of these vague titles such as 'underrated' to comfort and remind ourselves that we belong. . I am not sure how the 'underrated' title can be scaled generally unless you are talking about world-class players/coaches. 'underrated' is definitely different from 'world-class', even though you could discuss underratedness amongst world-class players. jasena: https://www.eyefootball.com/mobile/34901/Chris-Hughton-Englands-underrated-coaches.html
You can see that in this article Chris is described as one of the most underrated coaches in England. The Ghanaian FA were in search if a top class coach that could inspire confidence and respect from their players and rebuild the team, that's why they involved Chris hughton. It shows you how much they want to be at the world cup. I may not know the standards that define a world class coach but would you say that one of the most underrated coaches in England is not world class? Do you think Eguavon will ever be considered or dream of coaching in the top 5 league? |
