agbonkamen: Its a clear issue in the bible that God does not like divorce. but if you must divorce as a man or woman you must remained unmarried but when one of them dies the other party is free to remarry. aside all these I listed, every other things like after divorce the man or woman moves on its called adultery if the both are still alive which is a sin before God. A man's first wife is recognized by God while she is alive and her husband is married to another woman but when she (first wife) dies no wahala. I sha know that anything that can separate a man from his wife to the extent that it puts a strain on their marriage is not sha good so difference or not, ko mean! |

If you want to speak so that people will understand then pray to men What are you saying for God's sake? Was the gift not for Edification? So that the Church could grow? Did you read your Bible at all or do you just go to Church? A Tongue is a language someone must Understand and please mark the MUST! 1 Corinthians 14:27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. Else 1 Corinthians 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.Sometimes modern day Christians just do things and justify it with the name of Jesus! And we say Religion is the problem! |
Christianity Etc › Re: 10 Reasons Why Every Believer Must Speak In Tongues by bentuzene(m): 3:23pm On Aug 13, 2017 |
Nigeriadondie:
Tongues speaking was a gift of d holy spirit which enabled early christians back then to preach in a language(tongue) other than their own.
Before the birth of christianity, God had a covenant relationship with man but that was to change as the old Law was to be replaced with the new law enacted by d blood of Jesus and henwas no longer dealing with humans on d basis of the old law but thru d newly formed christian congregation after Christ's death and ressurection. To convince many that the congregation had His backing, he uses gifts of d spirit such as tongues- 1 Corinthians 14:22.
The gift of speaking served another purpose. During the time of Jesus there was no printing and broadcasting to relay messages to a mass audience as we ve now. Also, there was d issue of language barrier which wud hamper d spread of d gospel of God's will and purpose. To overcome these challenges, tongues speaking filled that need.
Please open ur Bible to read Acts 2:1-11 but with emphasis on verses 6-11 where you wud observe that the tongues spoken where in d real sense of it real languages that were understood by other people who spoke the language not some senseless and meaningless words spoken by ALL tongues speaking pentecostal churches. That way, people cud hear the message of God in their own native language. If u read Acts2:41 u would see that d result of tongues speaking was the 3,000 converts who would now carry witj them to whereever they went the message of goodnews or gospel fulfilling what Christ said in Acts1:8 and what Paul said in Colossians 1:23.
Again, lets examine tongue speaking in the time of early christians and the ones of our time which for me is mere rambling of meaningless words which is tantamount to noise which I recall in my High school class is an unpleasant noise. Read 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 and 27-31 with emphasis on verse 30. Read also 1 Corinthians 14:5-33,40 but lay emphasis on 5,11,12,13,19,26-28,31,33,40. You would realise that when tongues are spoken then it must be interpreted. If no interpretation the tongue speaker has achieved nothing. Also in verse 31, people cant speak in tongues simultaneously (at the same time) it would make d place rowdy/noisy/disorderly/chaotic as the gathering of barbarians. And the God true christians worship is a God or order as verse 33 shows and so christians must worship God in an orderly manner as verse 40 shows. Not the simultaneous noise making of all in the pentecostal churches we see today, people rambling making noise uttering words they nor their listeners understand and as such cannot interpret what the blabbed which is required.
Now in our time, we ve a well developed printing and broadcasting technology that has overcome the language barrier. The spread of d goodnews is no longer impeded by language barrier as the Bible is now printed in all the living languages spoken today. We even have d Braille for the blind and some bibles have sign language for d deaf. Beinh an ardent admirer of Jehovah's Witnesses the have their publications in about 800 languanges and have a mobile application called "JW LIBRARY" in about 800 languages. If u doubt me u can download it and u wud be amazed at its unique features. Even their website www.jw.org is in many languages as well so making tongues speaking obsolete. Also , they ve many missionaries who ve taken up the challenge of leaening bew languages so they could reach people who speak that language with d gospel.
As Paul said in 1Corinthians 13:1-13, the gifts of speaking in tongues and other gifts of d holy spirit would pass away with time. This is because as d christian congregation was still in its baby or infant stage, extraordinary gifts of the spirit was needed to convince people of God's approval of the christian congregation but as time went by and it grew beyond the babe stage, the traits of babes has to be put way and as such these gifts are no longer required. They ve outlived their purpose.
Hence, we should not be arried away with all these fake pentecostal churches. Look at what d Bible says Matthew 7:21-23, 2Thessolonians 2:8-10 Was about to comment till I read your post... May God bless you for this light! Speaking in tongues is a GIFT of the spirit not a FRUIT of the spirit. Some Christians can have it while others can not. Yes it is for edification but just like every other gift, not everybody has it. But the fruits of the spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, Self-Control and Faithfulness must be present in anyone that claims to be born of the spirit because without them there is division in the Church. I have a lot of Gifts as a Christian and yes I understand Tongues but cant easily speak them all (Which is you read Paul's text on this Gift it has the part of Speaking and Interpreting mind you) but these gifts I have are for ministry. What really keeps me up as a Christian aren't the Gifts but the FRUITS which the Spirit Imparts at its entry into your life. PS. Even non believers have Gifts and they use it for other things! |

hopefulLandlord: The message of Christianity is whatever you want it to be. The big book of multiple choice can and does validate any position anybody wants it to.
I keep telling people that "the bible, as written, is either the word of god, or it is not. If it requires interpretation, it becomes useless, because it then devolves in a war of interpretations, and one is every bit as good as another." And then look at the number of Christian sects and cults today.....................!
"The bible" begs the question - which bible? There are many diverse and different, confused and internally contradictory editions of the bible that can be traced back as being written by men from the 4th century onward. The oldest bible (Codex Sinaiticus" was written by a team of four men in the late 4th century and is significantly different to those we know today.
There appears to be nothing unique or original within the Urban Myths at the root Judaeo/christian religion - but be assured that the rapidly growing and third largest "religious" cohort (the non-religious) treat all the thousands of apparently imaginary gods, goddesses and god-men/"messiahs" with exactly fair and equal skepticism. Isn't Love as a word used as the basis for domestic violence? Or peace a reason people give for war? The fact that Humans have turned something good to bad doesn't make it bad. The Bible was written by men, Yes, God used them to show us his faith in us. Were you expecting him to write the Bible himself? Would that not be him forcing us? He just did that to show us that despite our imperfections, he loves us. Fact stands at this, there is no book that clearly explains the true nature of God except the Bible. Despite the fact that you may choose the imperfections (Caused by humans) in his word, His true nature is Love and I have resolved to that. Read 2 Tim. 3:16-17 if you still have issues with the Bible. |

Hiccups:

While attending Sunday church service on this day should be encouraged, it does not completely represent the purpose of Sundays. The Sabbath (Saturdays of calendar) purposes were clearly stated in Bible. However, The Lord's day (Sundays of Calendar) represents when Christ resurrected. Believers have now adopted The Lord's day as Sabbath, therefore, attending church service on Sundays should be encouraged, but reflection on Original purpose of The Lord's day shouldn't be down played by so doing. You know your History very well. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Is Sex Attached To Sin By Most Religion? by bentuzene(m): 12:42pm On Jul 31, 2017 |
It's what happens when people become hypocritical of whatever has been given to them to enjoy and they try to play around it when they hear it has rules.
Normally these are the terms of sexual intercourse God according to the Bible looks at without joy;
Homosexuality and Bisexuality (One man one woman is his standard) Bestiality and Masturbation (It is wrong) Intercourse before marriage (If you can't hold yourself, marry) Marriage with no intercourse (It is not fair to either party, be fruitful and multiply) Intercourse within one's direct original family (It is wrong) and Sex outside marriage (It is wrong and not fair to the other party)
His standard is one man and one woman bound to each other in marriage as it was right from creation (and quote me, no where in the Bible have all the above forms been tolerated in the Bible, the standard has been Marriage between a man and a woman. Even when a man had more than one woman he wasn't happy but let it slide cos of Human nature).
No need for us to be hypocritical about Sex, it has caused us a lot but, God loves us more that the sins sexual perversion has caused us. Also the fact that you sin doen't mean you are condemned, God still loves you and wants the best for you. |
Christianity Etc › Re: What The Bible Really Says About Women Covering Their Head To Church by bentuzene(m): 12:29pm On Jul 31, 2017 |
I personally have this question to ask most conservative die-hard critics to this content, what does covering the hair have to do with your salvation?
Does it guarantee your seat in Heaven?
Does it make you a better Christian?
Does it put the word of the Lord greater in the heart?
You see when I see people trying to fight God's battle on things that are spelt out in proper English I shake my head at Christians these days, those of you here calling the wrath of God on the OP, do remember our God doesn't hurt people.
Furthermore Read that passage properly, there is a proper distinction between the hair and the head, Common sense would tell you that a Woman's hair is for covering and beauty, if she cuts it, it becomes unusually odd but then she should cover it in the presence of God.
God gave us his Ten Commandments though and NO Critic in here dares point it out as a moral guide for Christians, (pointing fingers where it is convenient for themselves... Hypocrites It's these type that will say the Commandment has been done away with and that Christ abolished it. Where? Read the Bible properly and think the word through).
This topic is not one for major debate in Christianity as it has no value when placed side by side with Salvation (which is our main purpose for existence). I will advise Christians to learn from the OPs understand and apply kindly instead of Fighting God's war.
PS. Focus on your salvation and leave God to handle Grace with you.
It is not compulsory to cover the hair. |

sagod: How can a right thinking person claim that the woman did not commit any crime? Is it morally right for a widow to have sex in her late husbands home? The Igbos do not encourage sexual promiscuity like the Yorubas who are shamelessly justifying the widow's action. If the widow could no longer hold herself then she should have moved out of the late husband's house and remarry. This is the bitter truth that those who have no values and morals are shying away from.
But then, let me also say here that the action of the villagers is condemnable as well. She got married, the man died 30 years ago. Can she move on? Yes. Husband's home or not. If there is a rule that says she can't do it her 30 years dead husband's house (Which she now own if I must state based on Marriage), then I feel it's sad. Only thing I see wrong here is that she wasn't legally married to the young man but besides that every other thing about judging her was wrong like you pointed out. |
