People relate more when you preach from your personal life experience than using bible examples.we face more temptation now compare to people in bible time .social media distractions, internet to watch unclean videos ,televisions , laws that encourages immorality, etc

Exactly, I shake my head whenever some of my big pastors preach in church. They would be speaking for about one hour without mentioning a practical case they once encountered. Always using Jacob n co as examples. No connection with real life cases.

Then they will tell you that oratory or talent in speech making has nothing to do with preaching.
Religion / Re: Sowore Rejects Apostle Suleiman's Offer To Serve As Surety by Beosten(m): 9:57pm On Nov 04, 2019
Ko buru. What apostle is telling you is that you can't attack someone with the anointing and go scot-free. Even I that is not rich or popular, those who ever stepped on my toe had sad stories to tell. From a sadistic lecturer to stupid employers. I even shared in the pains of some of them that are close relatives. My ex girlfriends? They regretted crossing my path.

I don't have apostle Suleiman kind of anointing though.

Kenneth4u205:
Yes .the best type of preaching is when you preach based on your life experience.that's why God usually use ex prostitutes pastors to save prostitutes.he uses ex drug addict to save the drug addicted .etc

I was once a Sunday school teacher in our church. I later wooed a sister for relationship. She first thing she said was "why did you in most cases use your life experiences as examples?' I didn't answer the question well and didn't talk further about a relationship with her. She disappeared about 3 months later. When I asked about her, I was told she was impregnated by a man.

So, I'm trying to find a connection between what she said and me wanting to have a relationship with her.
Religion / Is It Appropriate To Use My Life Stories While Preaching In The Church? by Beosten(m): 8:34pm On Nov 04, 2019
When preaching in the church, is it appropriate to use my life stories especially in a situation where I committed a sin and God punished me. Note that it's a kind of sin which is not a sin in the eye of the law. For instance, premarital sex, or other sins not wrong according to our laws?

Not a kind of "I'm the one that poisoned Awolowo' bla bla. Otherwise, police go arrest person o.

NiCurious:

Not a guarantee of controversy, given a lot of respondents are quite unfamiliar with it, and if it was a source of controversy...so what?

Having a slightly unusual name makes people sit up and take notice, speaking from personal experience.

Having a more masculine name on a girl is also subtly steering her away from olosho culture that is so prevalent. The name Aluko acknowledges her beauty, without making a commodity of it.

The best I have read on this thread so far. Bearing unusual name makes people take note of one's presence.

How can Aluko mean beauty when it's a male name?

Just name the child beauty if looks are so important to you.

If at all it refers to beauty, then it's the beauty of the bird itself, since many birds have very beautiful plumage.

There is a saying in Yoruba land that goes thus 'Aluko bi o k'osun, obinrin o se oge. That sentence is deep.

Must say, I am surprised this is getting so much attention! You'd think when the time comes, we will all be there making what is bound to be a very beautiful daughter with op!

I promise you op, that when you've done making your daughter and she arrives, if you do not name her as you have been inspired to, I will hunt you down, take your daughter from you and name her Aluko myself!

Lol. My daughter is about to arrive. I'm in love with her already. I just want a Yoruba name with deep meaning. I don't want foreign name like Hebrew names. Laslas Israel still won't give you visa upon bearing Hezikiah and co

I dont know if you're Yoruba but ile lan nwo ka to somoloruko, which is to say traditionally you give your child a name based on your background or family environment.

If you're not in tune with your roots then you could give a child any name, but as someone guessed, are you planning for your daughter to identify as a different gender?

Different gender? God forbids bad thing. I will check other names.

Why do you need Nairaland permission to name your daughter? we didn't contribute a cent to her wellbeing, go ahead bro

Thanks, bro. I know no one can challenge me by giving her the name. The name will earn her respect as people will be surprised that the name is often given to men with great ancestral history. From literal interpretation, Aluko is a bird with the color that symbolizes beauty in Yoruba land.

Aluko is a bird associated with camwood (osun) in traditional Yoruba. Camwood is used in making red dye and also to lighten the skin tone.

Yes. To beautify women in those days, osun is usually used. But a bird known as Aluko has the color of osùn

They should also be arresting vehicles wrongly parked on the roads. There was a day in a street where two vehicles parked opposite each other and no other vehicle could pass between the two. Motorists we're screaming, looking for the useless owners to move their pangolo away.
