I don't know why everyone seems to be criticizing you blindly, and I'm not about to give you a pat on the back either.
You didn't do anything wrong by suggesting the bribing scenarios, it was just something that should serve as joke and laughed about and even turned into a topic of discussion if the airhead you were talking to actually is sensible, where you messed up was you not clarifying things before you left the bank especially when the manager came back.
