I no know book:Don't waste your time over that homo born by a whor.e at poor imo state. He may not even be enlightened or educated enough to be the messenger to the same Onitsha big boy he is talking about. |
This is gonna be good.. |
Tourism in Anambra State is set to blossom with the start of work at Agulu Lake Hotel Resort. The governor, Peter Obi, who visited the hotel, said the project was in line with the policy of the state government to develop all sectors simultaneously encapsulated in Anambra State Integrated Development Strategy (ANIDS). Located beside the serene Agulu lake, the biggest lake in Anambra State, Obi said the resort would be of benefit to the state especially as it is located within the Anambra State capital territory. “You know I am a corporate man; many corporations approach me daily to hold their annual general meetings in Awka but lack of facilities is one of the major constraint. With the Agulu Lake Hotel Resort, the capital territory will not only boast of an internationally standard hotel but will also have a hotel located in one of the best areas for such purpose”, Obi said. The governor, who promised that his government will deliver the project completed, said it was one of the projects he will be personally supervising routinely because of its strategic importance and huge economic and employment potentials for the state. He recalled that the resort was first conceived in the early 1970s in the old Eastern Region together with the Nike Lake Resort and regretted that while Nike had been achieved, Agulu Lake Resort remained a still-birth until now. Meanwhile, Obi also inspected the two old bridges at the Agulu Lake by pass and said that new, strong bridges would be constructed to replace the old ones that had weak bases and the road expanded to contain the anticipated increase in traffic the resort centre would create. When completed, the resort will boast of modern facilities including an International Conference Centre. It is being constructed by a Chinese company. Contributing, the Commissioner for Works, Calistus Ilozumba, said the project was approved by the Exco and emphasized the urgency and need for the project to be completed as soon as possible for its benefit to the state. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2013/07/obi-visits-agulu-lake-resort/ |
IT will no longer be business as usual for bankers and their customers in Kano, Anambra, Abia, Rivers, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as electronic platforms take the centre stage of banking activities in those states beginning from Monday. Already, banks are sensitising customers for take-off of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s cash-less policy in the five additional states, with some of them sending text messages to account holders alerting them on new cash deposit and withdrawal benchmarks as well as other requirements of the scheme. Although the Lagos pilot project, which began a year ago, is still fraught with challenges, ranging from poor ICT infrastructure to network ‘downtimes’ associated with poor quality of GSM services, among other bottlenecks, the CBN governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, had insisted that the project would be extended to these states in preparation for a nationwide rollout. The focus, however, is on key commercial and urban centres of Onitsha, Kano, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Aba. The apex bank cited heavy cash transactions in many of the states’ market or urban centres as the compelling reason for taking the scheme in the areas. But it is feared that the banks will still have to grapple with the traditional banking habits and, sometimes, low literacy and awareness level of the majority of businessmen in some of those states, many of whom are yet to understand the details despite the CBN’s campaign. A big chunk of the rural population in communities that feed into the commercial/ urban areas in most of the selected states remain semi-literate, sometimes completely operating outside of the formal banking system. “For this reason, we are educating our customers, said an official of one of the new generation banks in Lagos. Asked to explain what the policy portends for those that would, henceforth, need banking services in the designated areas, she said new cash deposit and withdrawal benchmarks of N300,000 (for personal accounts and N3 million (for corporate accounts) will now be applied in the affected areas. Also, third-party cheques in excess of N150,000 can no longer be “cash-drawn” over the counter, even as she explained that “although you can use your ATM card to do transactions on a Point of Sale (POS) machine and other electronic/internet channels, you can no longer do more than N150,000 cash withdrawal with your ATM card in a day.” Meanwhile, World Bank’s Payment Systems and Remittances Specialist, Carlo Corazza, said ‘revolution’ in global payment system has resulted in great savings, which are significant for development purposes. Corazza made the disclosure at the conference on cash-less initiative, organised by DeNovo Limited and Reach Legal Consulting, in conjunction with the CBN, in Lagos. “Going electronic,” he said, “can save about 75 per cent of costs usually associated with cash-based regime, which is huge, especially in this era of stretched resources, urging stakeholders to support the scheme. According to him, the system has also lowered the costs associated with physical barriers in international trade, making it easier for access to financial services in various countries, another positive signal in international cooperation. But Deputy Governor, Operations, CBN, Tunde Lemo, who was represented by the Director of Banking and Payments System Department, Dipo Fatokun, said the initiative became necessary, given the fact that an efficient payment system enhances financial inclusion, effective transmission mechanism of monetary policy and overall financial stability. “This is because the cost of cash and associated risk of a cash-driven economy to Nigeria’s financial system were high and in response to these challenges, CBN and the Bankers’ Committee initiated the ‘Cash-Less Nigeria’ project with the pilot run in Lagos and now to be extended to five additional states- Abia, Anambra, Ogun, Kano, Rivers and Abuja by July 1. “Just this month, we went live on cheque truncation nationwide, thereby making cheque payments to clear within a clearing cycle of T+1. The CBN has licensed about 18 mobile payment operators to offer payment services via the mobile phone that over 100 million Nigerians carry. Fatokun added that the cash-less policy was designed to promote financial intermediation and inclusion, minimise revenue leakages and increase revenue generation, as well as reduce incidences of robbery and amount of cash payments in the system by encouraging electronic payments. The policy on withdrawal allows individual customer to make cumulative withdrawal of N500, 000 daily across the counters and the ATM. “Withdrawal above this limit will attract the payment of a processing fee of three percent for the amount above the limit,” the official said. “Corporate customers are allowed to make cumulative withdrawal of N3, 000,000 daily. Withdrawal above the limit will attract a processing fee of five percent. “The policy on lodgment allows individual customer to make cumulative lodgment of N500, 000 daily. Lodgment above the limit will attract a processing fee of 2 percent above the limit. “Corporate customers are allowed to make cumulative lodgment of N3, 000,000 daily. Lodgment above the limit will attract a processing fee of three percent above the limit. “I need to make it clear that it is the account to which withdrawal and lodgment is made that bears the processing charges and not the individual that receives or deposits the cash. “Cumulative withdrawal/lodgment means the totality of all withdrawals and lodgments across all the customer’s accounts in the bank.” http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=125971:cash-less-policy-begins-in-kano-anambra-rivers&catid=1:national&Itemid=559 |

VAQAXY: More pictures of ongoing works in Onitsha city. The other lanes has been re-layed with ashphalt while the far right lane presently being laid with street lights.Good job |
@abes, the Onitsha-Imo road is about the best road in SE/SS, though with some bad spots around imo areas of the road. The one shown on the pix is the approach to city of Onitsha. |
Imo state is hugely under developed with the state being over 85percent rural. In most cases imo state cannot be in a race with Anambra, because the former is 'FACE' while the later is 'PSQUARE' Anambra is to SE what Rivers and Lagos is to SS and SW respectively. It has often been cleared here that imo state is in league with states as Gombe, Ebonyi, Taraba, Ekiti, Oshun etc. So if anybody wants to do analysis they should look for like match. Developmentally Anambra is over 200yrs ahead of imo state in all sectors. Infact that bully called okorosha should go to Awka and learn from Obi what development and governace is about. |
ak47mann: second onitsha business park completed by peterThis is WOW! Obi is not a talkative nor a media visitor. AK, please upload more pix biko.. |
What does a rural and timid state as oshuns needs airport for? Maybe another akure 'deserted airport'. |
Psquare is the father of contemporary African music. Their musical export is second only to Nigerian Black Gold. |
Just got to Awka this evening. The news is everywhere in the city now. Oseloka is surely the next governor. A senior diplomat from United Nations. |
Just confirmed now that okorosha is fathered by an Hauas man from Taraba. This guy is not even Igbo in the first place. Imo people didn't do background check before electing an almajiri brought up as their governor. PDP till 2050 |
lorretta u: that's not true.Tuface is an outdated artiste. Psquare is the father and king of contemporary African singer. |
Psquare remains the king of contemporary African music. Dband can be compared to likes of Flavor, 9ce, Timaya. Etc Psquare can be compared to some world bests. |
Psquare is the undisputable father of comtemporay African music. They have exported music across the world more than any musician in Africa. They are the BEST out of Africa. Anambra twins una do well. |
Hope to the next election in my state |
1MCN: The list has been slimmed down this time around. In the last election it was 63 for a single ticket. But this does not show confusion. One thing is, Anambra politics is the biggest state politics in Nigeria. Bigger than some countries in Africa. And Anambra is the state with the highest number of resourceful people in Nigeria (dont just argue it, am not from there. If you doubt it just name 10 most popular Igbomen, Nigerians, you know in every field of life and I tell you, you may just be naming 6 Anambra indigenes!)This is it. It equally goes to show that Anambra is the brain box of Nigeria. A state that produces the best and the brightest in all fields. |
Longeria: Popular man indeed. Okorocha thinks Igbos of today are the type he can trick into his bag of deceptions. Only him in APC yet campaigning for Apga. This is a man who led many people to form a party called Action Aliance ( AA) before you say Jesus is Lord he dump them back to PDP from PDP to ANPP back to PDP from PDP to ANPP back to PDP from PDP to Apga from Apga to where thunder will certainly fire him. I'm an Imolite, we voted Apga because of Ojukwu, if his thought it was his popularity why didn't he contest for DOUGLAS HOUSE he is occupying now through boko haram ANPP, We are not fools and can never be fooled by his fool.ani style gangsterism. Was it not the same clown of a gov that was seen dragging seat with Obi's aides? We can't wait for the return of ohakin. |
Obiagu1: Sorry folks, you can argue till the end of the world but the only viable discussion will remain: Achebe is the Father of African Literature. No other name will be associated with Father of African Literature. This one got me threw on the ground. hahahahahahahahhaha |

all4naija: Is it not the single statement he made once that was replicated by different news media online? You are very myopic my friend. You misunderstood phantom. He actually meant that the entire media was awash with Achebe being the Father of Modern African Literature until soyika came with his personal confusion and vendatta. ![]() But he, soyika cannot change the title given to Achebe by the world. ![]() |
I like you people to lay more emphasis on this highlighted and see how this man Acbebe affected lives all over the world, which made the world call him Father of modern African Literature. What has the world had to say about soyika if not political noble prize and inventor of the dreaded campus cultism. "Chinua Achebe, described as the “father of modern African literature” who inspired generations of writers across the continent, has died at the age of 82. The Nigerian author of Things Fall Apart, considered the essential novel on African identity and nationalism, passed away at a hospital in the US city of Boston after a brief illness". The bolded equally gave credence to the fact that Achebe is unarguably the father of African Literature. |
Below are foriegners who recognized Achebe as the father of modern African literature. The who is soyika his bitterness to change this fact known all over the world. Chinua Achebe, 'the father of modern African literature', talks to Ed Pilkington about inventing a new language, his years in exile from his beloved Nigeria - and why he changed his name from Albert It seems a strange place to find the writer credited above all others with inventing the modern African novel. Nadine Gordimer, one of the many writers indebted to Achebe for the ground that he broke, described him last month as the "father of modern African literature". She was one of the judges who awarded Achebe, now 76, this year's Man Booker international prize, given every two years for an exceptional lifetime's achievement. A writer as driven and as political as Achebe neither needs nor solicits such recognition, yet he is grateful to receive it. http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2007/jul/10/chinuaachebe Ayo Coly has taught Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart in all of her courses since she began as an associate professor of African and African American Studies at Dartmouth six years ago, and she has found that nearly every one of her students read the book in high school. That is as clear a picture as she can give of the significance of the Nigerian author who came to be known as the father of African literature, and who had numerous ties to Dartmouth. Achebe died Thursday, March 21, 2013, in Boston. He was 82. http://now.dartmouth.edu/2013/03/dartmouth-professor-honors-the-father-of-african-literature/ Chinua Achebe, described as the “father of modern African literature” who inspired generations of writers across the continent, has died at the age of 82. shymexx: Discuss their works(art) and not their popularity. Soyinka got to the pinnacle of his career and won the most prestigious and celebrated award in his field. And he has a right to his opinions - he mastered the art and I'm proud of him. With the political noble prize, who knows soyika outside yorubaland ![]() ![]() I bet you that kids here in the east does not know who is soyika and rubbish noble he allegedly won, because the man hasn't affected their lives.. I bet with my real estate that Achebe's name rings bell in every family all around the world. Because they have all read his work. His book are standard curricular all around the world for African Literature. Am yet to see a common Ghanaian or Togolese that knows about Soyika. The only thing I found out is that soyika is jittery and insecure about the prime position of Achebe on the world stage. Achebe is a world ambassador. |
Crayola1: The sad part is that we have people on here who talk as if they are knowledgeable but quickly prove how that is not the case. You know some people, their brain and sense of reasoning has been eroded by this 'amala and oil soup'. you don't expect them to reason well. Even the nemesis of bringing campus cultism and shading of human blood is haunting that silly old fool. Here are the two greatest African. One is Father of Modern African Literature, the other is father of African Liberation.
|
shymexx: There's a difference between "celebrities" and "art." Stop disrespecting the man's legacy. With all these chest beating. Am yet to see how soyika has affected lives either through his works or the political noble prize they wrongfully gave to the man that introduced campus cultism. Achebe affected lives through his works all over the world, even Mandela read his works in the prison and felt free. |
Crayola1: Nadine Gordimer gave him the title the father pf modern african literature. So how would she feel disrespected by a totle she gave him? Its clear many of you have not the slightest clue about a lot of the things you speak on.They will choose to ignore this decent woman that first called Achebe the Father of African Literature, rather they will like us to listen to that old fool that brought cultism into our tertiary institutions today. What a people without a hero. We in the East has hero for you people to look up to, because we have world acclaimed hero. |
