Our experience as Igbos is different from that of the Chinese.

...And when the Jews got tired of running from pillar to post in the name of migration, we all know what they did. They told themselves the hard truth that home is the best and they've got no option than to go home and develop it. I am not ruling out migration in it's entirety because even Americans live abroad. What I am saying is that the rate at which we migrate is disproportionate, that we even migrate to places worse than our our home. Just take a statistics of places our people migrate to and you will realize majority of places are no way better economically than where we came from. The problem is that over the years, it has been ingrained into our psyche that living abroad is better. I live in the UK but i am not in anyway economically better than my peers at home, and they do not even suffer as much as I do to make the little money I make here. I can't wait to go home and God is my witness.

Igbonazy:

Chill Bro, you Anti-migration people (abi na wetin we go call am,) make me laugh sometimes. Where do you think the money for building many estates and industries in Igboland comes from?

Chill, stop discouraging migration, it is in our nature. It's part of what makes us Igbo unique.

Such migration have lots of advantage and little disadvantage. My only worry with igbo migrants is their lukewarm attitude towards Investing home.

Europe and Britain wouldnt have been what they are today if they hadnt migrated. They ventured into other societies,do business with them and got the proceeds back to europe to develop their Railways,Seaports,Industries, farms etc. The interest of europeans who chose to stay in foreign lands are protected by european governments. .. the cycle continues ... they help develop, influence their host countries and get the proceeds of the exploits back to Europe not to mention that they are also well protected by their embassies to live out their full potential. Imagine how nice it would be for future generations to read how their forefather influence foreign lands.

Talking of greed, greed is good for business,my friend! Westerners are very greedy people. multinationals love to invest in such lands full of greedy people in other to sell more Cars, ipads, iphones, clothes,Jets, houses, etc. Its good for the businesses and the countries in terms of employment and monies in circulation. No smart President would discourage its Citizens from being greedy considering what the economy gains from it.

Where did China migrate to become the biggest economy in the world? Where are Igbos living in Kano and Maiduguri prior to 2011? When they were given ultimatum by boko haram to leave north, they thought it will never happen. Majority lost those investments they thought they won't do without. It is high time we stopped the labour of the foolish. We have what it takes resources-wise to become the largest economy in Africa. It's only a matter of proper planning, being tolerant and accommodating to ourselves. I understand envy, pride, wickedness and greed are part of the reasons our people avoid home. We need to go home and develop our land.https://www.facebook.com/WillieObiano/photos/a.1380608652159857.1073741833.1377212462499476/1502249053329149/?type=1

centje:
Gov. Ugwuanyi to decide if we will remain in PDP – Chime

By NAN on June 4, 2015

Some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, including former governor, Sullivan Chime, have said that Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi will decide whether they will decamp from the party.

Chime made this known when he received Ugwuanyi and stakeholders from Enugu East Senatorial District in his country home on Thursday.
“If the governor tells us to remain in the PDP, we will do so but if he tells us to move elsewhere, we will sit together, discuss and then decide to either move or not.

“This is now a family affair and whatever the governor says is what we are going to do. As a people we must be together and that is the only way to progress,’’ he said.

He, however, insisted that the Enugu State people must work as one family in the interest of the state.
Chime, therefore, appealed to residents of the state to support the leadership of Ugwuanyi in order to sustain the ongoing development in the state.

The former governor said that his eight years of leadership was like an imprisonment, adding: “what is worst is after coming out of the ‘prison’ your people will be insulting you.

“For eight years we navigated ourselves through the stormy waters, but we succeeded with your support. We are happy that our people have come to show appreciation for all we did.’’

He said he would not regret all the sacrifices he made to engender peace and unity in the state.

Chime expressed regrets that it was in his own senatorial district that he received the highest opposition even within the PDP.

“It was in Enugu East Senatorial District that I received the highest opposition, but our people remained steadfast in their support to us,’’ Chime said.

He said Ugwuanyi had started well by moving round the state to see things for himself, adding that the governor didn’t want to depend on the handover note he gave him.

Responding, Ugwuanyi expressed readiness to carry all sections of the state along as one united family as well as continue from where the former administration stopped.

Ugwuanyi, who was on a solidarity visit, promised to complete the ongoing projects initiated by his predecessor.

“Sullivan Chime remains my mentor in and out of office and he has charted a trajectory toward the development of our state.

“His work has not ended as we shall continue to feed from him,” Ugwuanyi said.

He pledged his administration’s determination to develop each and every part of state.

Ugwuanyi is starting on a sound note and I pray God helps him to sustain the tempo.

Please read the inaugural speech by Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi delivered on Friday, May29, 2015.

ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, RT. HON. IFEANYI UGWUANYI ON THE OCCASION OF HIS INAUGURATION AS THE GOVERNOR OF ENUGU STATE, AT THE OKPARA SQUARE ON MAY 29, 2015.

PROTOCOL
Ndi Enugu, the appointed day has finally come. It is the Lord’s doing and it is still marvelous in our eyes. To Him, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob and the Awesome God of David, be all the glory and honour in Jesus name. Amen.
Exactly eight years ago and on this ground, an enigma, a man of uncommon zeal for development, and indeed the true leader met for our souls was inaugurated as the third executive Governor of Enugu State. That man is no other person than His Excellency, Governor Sullivan Iheanacho Chime, CON. Looking back at his developmental strides, there is no doubt that he was divinely anointed and equipped with the intellectual capacity, political sagacity, and vision to take Enugu State to its rightful place in the comity of federating states. With a well thought-out blue print for consolidation and rapid growth, our amiable leader was rated as one of the best performing Governors for the eight years that he held sway.
Ndi Enugu, today, it has pleased God and you, men and women of goodwill that I step into the big shoes of my predecessors as the next Governor of Enugu State in a seamless continuity and consolidation of all the good works he and others before him has done in the State. It has pleased God that I take up the gauntlet of the struggle for the emancipation of the Wawa man from where our heroes past stopped. It can only be God, for it is He who raises the poor from the ash heap and makes him to inherit a throne of honour. He has anointed me for a mission – to bring good news, message of continued hope, peace and development to our people; to bind up the broken hearted; to proclaim liberty to every Wawa man caught in the prison of poverty and under-development. And these, I owe you and my God to fulfill.
Ndi Enugu, in line with my campaign promises, I recommit myself to continuing with the legacies of the Sullivan Chime’s administration and his roadmap for taking Enugu State to the next level. I recommit myself to employment generation, enhanced social services and good governance, rural development and indeed, security and justice. We will deploy government services to create fair and equal opportunity for every willing citizen to make a living and create wealth, educate our children, and enjoy life in a peaceful and secure environment. We will drive with full force investment promotion, agricultural sector renewal, provision of critical infrastructures, human capital development and skills acquisition.
We are aware that you are aware, and saddled with the same awareness, that unemployment is a major issue in our Country today. In order to alleviate the sufferings of our people in this regard, we deliberately designed government policies embedded in our road map to generate employment and provide the platform to partner with the private sector.
In the area of agriculture, we shall consolidate the efforts of the past administration in the San Carlos Farm project, the Adarice and other such farm settlements where our people will be gainfully employed.
We undertake to continue with the on-going educational reforms which have lifted our public schools to new levels of excellence. The introduction of e-learning and exchange programmes for our tertiary institutions in line with international best practices will be our priority.
The need to compliment the already established state-of-the-art medical diagnostic centre – the first of its kind in our geo-political zone- with our vision to create hospital chains to make Enugu the preferred destination for receiving high quality and affordable medicare in the Country will be a matter of first choice.
Your Excellences, Distinguished ladies and gentlemen,
Enugu State under us will pay a special attention to rural development because the bulk of our people live in the rural areas. We will create more urban areas to boost economic growth. In line with this, we must equip and modernize Nsukka – a University town founded over half a century ago – to compete with other University towns in attracting technology and knowledge based businesses and other industrial support ventures, bearing in mind that Nsukka is the second largest town in Enugu State.
In the same vein, the Ninth Mile Corner is a long overlooked economic hub that we need to harness to enjoy the full benefits of our newly acquired status as a Free Trade Zone. We will give attention to these places to speed up urban development, create fresh economic opportunities and reduce pressure on the Enugu metropolis.
Likewise we will boost the Enugu city by opening up the Independence Layout Phase Two, Abakpa Nike, Emene and other satellite towns to compliment the proposed Industrial Park. We will partner with the private sector, not only in housing development but also in agricultural development and industrialisation. We want people who are ready to enter into strategic partnerships with us to develop Enugu State. We will provide the necessary legal and policy frameworks to make investment thrive.
It is on this note that I wish to call on our people in the diaspora and the business community to key more freely into the new phase of development in Enugu. I enjoy the diaspora’s overwhelming support and goodwill for which I will remain grateful. Now, it is time for them to consummate this support by investing more at home and using their wide network of contacts to boost socio-economic development in the State. Although it is said among our people that “Ebe onye bi ka o na awachi”, it is also a fact that “Aku ruo uno, amara onye kpara ya”.
Ndi Enugu,
Let me state categorically that while we are gearing to achieve so much, we must bear in mind that the resource flow has grown so lean across the Country due to the nose-dive of oil prices in the International market. As His Excellency, the outgoing Governor pointed out during the thanksgiving service last Sunday, Enugu’s purse is growing leaner as federal allocations dwindle to an all-time low. A political associate recently told me that this is not the best of times to be the Governor of Enugu State. But I replied that this is indeed the best time to lead Enugu State. If former President Franklin Roosevelt could lead America out of the Great Depression; and if President Barak Obama could lead the Americans out of the economic melt-down, I believe that we too can turn the present economic challenges into huge blessings. Since it is knowledge driven economies and not oil driven economies that rule the world, I believe that this is another great opportunity for Enugu State, and indeed Nigeria to look inwards and harness those potentials which free oil money has blinded us all the while from exploiting. It is an opportunity to live to our full potentials and discard the feeding bottle federalism syndrome. Importantly, I believe in the miracle of 5 loaves and 2 fish. I believe that God will give us the wisdom and courage to successfully navigate the state through the current economic crunch.
Yet while I have no doubt that we will get to the promised land; while expectations are high, and rightly so, it is also important to state that the times we are in require some patience. With patience, faith and your full involvement in governance, we will surely get there.
However, I also believe that we must match our faith with the right decisions and good work. I will therefore be calling on Ndi Enugu to tighten their belts. But the difference between our model of belt-tightening and the one you used to know, is that the belt-tightening under this administration will start with government functionaries and business. We will lead by example. We will lead a lean government to free up resources and channel them to the real development issues.
In addition, every revenue-generating agency of government should be ready to generate and remit revenues to fund government’s development efforts. Likewise, individuals and corporate entities should henceforth start paying tax as defaulters will not be counted as friends of Enugu State. But one thing I must assure you is that every kobo you put into the coffers of government will be utilised transparently and in a way that adds value to your lives.
We will continue with our foreign investment drive. We were in China recently. We had fruitful discussions with some businessmen who want to invest in our state. The result of those meetings will be felt by the good people of Enugu State when investors storm Enugu State soon. We will continue to provide favourable policies, legal frameworks, and business friendly environments to encourage others to follow suit.
Before I take my seat, please permit me to appreciate the support and contributions of the Deputy President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, CFR; the former Senate President, His Excellency, Senator Ken Nnamani, GCON; the former Governor of old Anambra State, His Excellency, Senator Jim Nwobodo; His Excellency, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo; His Excellency, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani; His Excellency, Admiral Allison Madueke Rtd.; His Excellency, Anthony Ogugua; and all our other leaders too numerous to mention.
We salute our Party men and women especially its leadership at the National, Zonal, State, Local Government and Ward levels. We also recognize the untiring efforts of the various Support Groups.
Most importantly, we must appreciate the electorate who defied rain and sunshine to ensure that their votes counted. They are the true heroes of our democracy and will be surely rewarded with good governance.
We appreciate those who contested against us both in the party primaries and in the general election. We also recognize the support of all the 22 political parties that endorsed us. We commend their support and goodwill, and whole-heartedly invite them to join us as we take Enugu State to the next level.
Ndi Enugu!
Again, let the word go forth from here to the heights of the undulating hills of Udi; take the word to the elevations of Nsukka; let the tiding go forth to the farmlands of Nkanu land and indeed to every nook and cranny of Wawa land, that seamless Continuity and Consolidation have come!
God bless Enugu State. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Thank you all and remain blessed.

Pls let's stop playing the ostrich lest our problems remain unsolved, Anambra State government have brick factory beside ABS but later the company stopped working, will you tell me an aboki is responsible.
The problem is that the nature of houses in East normally make people to use concretes and blocks, if we continue using brick in building East don't you know erosion would have sacked us from there considering where it will be sourced.

Most of the brick houses in Enuugwu are pre colonial and they are not commercial buildings and rarely highrise.

Brick is not popular in Nigeria

The houses in Trans-Ekulu are pre-colonial? British people have been using bricks for more than 500 years and I am not sure erosion has sacked them. The problem with us is that we have little or no regard for our environment. We excavate soil and abandon the place to the vagaries of the elements. Places that are erosion-prone should not be not mined until a proper environmental impact assessment is carried out.

Mining of sand in our rivers, presents it's own problem as well. I visited one of the rivers sometime ago and I spoke to one of the sand miners, he told me that sand is becoming scarce these days and I asked him what he thought would happen in 50 years time, he told me that honestly the future of our environment is bleak. Please if live in Enugu, visit the bridges there, you will realize that the base of most of the bridges have been washed off due to indiscriminate mining of sand. One day there will be no sand to mine in those rivers.

Whether we are mining clay or sandy soil, every mining activity should be regulated to save our environment, that's the bottom line.

As at the time the brick factory in my village closed, a lot of people who placed orders were waiting for their deliveries but they never received them, so it's not as if people were not buying the bricks and that is why I alleged economic sabotage. One of my uncles had to use blocks to complete his house fencing because the factory shot down.

Any reasons why?

I think economic sabotage is the main reason. The factory belongs to the federal government though, so ndi ugwu must have contributed in running it down so that we can buy low quality Dangote cement. Most brick houses in Enugu were built with bricks from that factory. If Enugu houses were built with bricks we wouldn't have the problem of having to repaint buildings intermittently because of dust. It also seems to me that brick houses last longer. My college alma mater classrooms where built with bricks and till date, they are looking and standing strong as new.

brilliant! it's actually a really good idea to go ahead a man the buildings the same color as the soil or a mixed 'sandy' color so that the damage from dust won't appear and will look like a part of the building. Such in intelligent and simple solution to a major problem in the city.

A lot of architectural marvels are built with commercial bricks that are naturally this color. I wonder why they're not popular in Nigeria?
It's appears that the ancients were wiser than us in building with the natural colors of the earth, because they had knowledge of paint but only used it decoratively for graphics or illustrations

The brick factory in my village rotting away now.

We don't have trees in Enugu, aside GRA and government house area. Trees should be lined up along streets to provide shades for people during intense sunshine. What would it cost to plant trees anyway?

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi should build more affordable houses like Loma Linda, for low income earners, not the ones they build and lock up for years because people cannot afford them, yet there is a shortage of decent houses in the city.

I want the next government to be less elitist. It should work more on reducing poverty and preventing capital flight by awarding contracts to local people. Employment creation should be top on the priority list if the government cares about the people.

Emperoh:
Was just in Enugu Thursday and Friday last week. A couple of concerns;

The Nike Lake road, starting from, and passing through Nowas roundabout up till the intersection with Abakpa road is deteriorating at a very fast rate. No one seems to be paying attention to the craters. While the new roads are being fixed, it is important we pay attention to the existing ones. That road is turning into a major exit and entry route into Enugu City especially those coming from the North hence needs adequate attention.

Another issue has to do with the Enugu City traffic marshals. On Friday, i had to run a few errands for my old man. Borrowed my sister's car and set off. I have done all my rounds and was returning home around 3pm. I passed the traffic light in front of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium at amber.

I didn't drive up to 1 km and two marshals on bike blocked my path. One got into the car and said i beat the traffic light. We found a spot in front of railway gate and parked. Argument ensued. I asked them to provide evidence, they said i needed to get to their office and i asked what for? And he said my offence was beating traffic light. We went through a shouting match. But i eventually asked them, who punishes someone without being found guilty by a competent court. I asked if he was a court? What law of the land accuses and punishes without finding one guilty? Again, amber lights symbols world wide represents a signal for motorist to prepare to stop and not stop. If Enugu state changed its laws does that then supercede National Road Safety laws? One could though argue the alleged offence was committed on a state government road but since they didn't realise that, i held on to them, refusing to go anywhere with them and asked them let me go unconditionally since they could not prove i committed any crime and that National laws supersede state laws.

Eventually, one of the riders, calmer though, seeing they were not making any headway with me, pulled me aside and started begging me to 'settle' them with something and showed me an sms indicating that they were given targets as to the number of cars they were to impound and bring back to the office, 'to prove that he came to work today (friday 20.02.2015)'. After much cajoling and begging for me to give them 'fuel money', i gave him N1000.

It felt like i have helped the boy, but my heart couldn't stop thinking that i may have enriched the pockets of a rogue politician who is being compensated for his allegiance to the government of the day. That sms basically confirms my belief that this was no civic responsibility to maintain traffic in the metropolis but to generate revenue for some private pockets. Their behaviour as one would expect should have been that of corrective disposition rather than impound and fine which is the order of the day. I must admit though, that there has been high levels of sanity in terms of driving in Enugu. But this pales into insignificance when put side by side with the pains and wrong accusations these boys mete out to people and the money they fleece off motorist.

If any Enugu state government official reads this page please something needs to happen to bring sanity and order in the work these boys do. It is important what they do but it has to be with some decorum and sanity. You do not recruit boys with no adequate training and an understanding of the road traffic law and their jurisdiction, and thrust them onto the roads to enforce traffic laws. Anambra state started this way and marshals ended up beating up motorists over perceived traffic infractions. They called them 'ndi mpiawa azu'. Thank God for the governor who came in and sanitized the system. Last Christmas, i came to Onitsha on the 28th to pick some good from the Young Shall Grow park and parked along the expressway while my elder brother crossed to the service lane into the park to pick up the goods. After 3 minutes, a traffic marshal walks up to my car, taps on the glass and asks mind to roll it down, i did and he addressed me in the most gentle but stern mien, asking me to leave the express and drive into the service lane and park. Imagine the same scenario in Enugu? Someone will be jumping up at having 'trapped an offender' and jumping into your car. Of course you know the rest.

I am also charging lawyers who live in Enugu. It will take only a court case and judgement to make nonsense of this faceless traffic regime in Enugu. That was all it took for the Park and Pay regime in Abuja to be sent back to where it came from; the pit of hell. If not, what gives the traffic authorities the power to punish people without being convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction? I might not understand the law, but something needs to be done about this.

Please endeavour to obey traffic regulations, because they are for the good of the general public including yourself. However, in the event of a palpable or patent display of abuse of power by the law enforcement agents, one should stand his ground and plead his innocence. From the your testimony, you crossed the traffic at amber, next time, be patient until it goes green. If they don't make efforts to enforce these laws, we will still complain. Let us try and give room for human failures while discharging public duties.

Love most of those pictures. I was in Enugu last year's February.
Stayed in part of town that i wasn't used to, La vic hotel in one day area off agbani rd.

The whole neighborhood was one big construction site. Even the hotel was brand new.

Someone really has to remind Enugu state government about marketing her tourism potentials.
The thought of a serene city lying at the base of an escarpment is enough to attract foreigners especially with the security and fair luxury that Enugu state offers.

In 2013, after watching a movie together at the cinema, I have not forgotten how a certain foreigner (looked Aussie) humbly sat at the pavement outside the Polo Park Mall and was admiring the city.

When I tell people that Enugu is one of the best cities in the world, they don't believe me. Tell me any other city that has three rivers, with natural beaches running across it. Unfortunately the state government has not tapped fully into the tourism potentials of Enugu.

Charles Ugwu, who made the announcement during the Peoples Democratic Party’s campaign rally in the area said the gesture was in appreciation of the Governor’s exceptional achievements in office and his government’s support to the Enugu North Senatorial zone,

Ugwu said apart from ensuring that the governorship position was zoned to Nsukka, Governor Chime equally endeared himself to the people of the area through his developmental strides and support for the creation of Adada State.

Reacting to the honour, Governor Chime described it as “a pleasant surprise”.

While thanking the people of Nsukka for their support to his administration and for the PDP, he urged them to replicate same for the incoming administration.

Presenting the PDP guber candidate in Enugu State Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Chime described him as a fit and proper person to succeed him adding that he had full confidence in him (Ugwuanyi) as he would all that is necessary to provide the best for Enugu people.

He urged the people to ensure that the collected their permanent voters’ cards to enable them vote for PDP candidates during the forthcoming elections.

In a speech at the rally, the PDP guber candidate Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi said the renaming of the Stadium after Governor Chime was just one of the many things lined up by the people of the area in order to thank Chime for his kind gestures.

He said the people of Enugu North Senatorial Zone will remain ever grateful to the Governor Chime adding that a different scenario would have played out, if the Governor had not insisted that power should shift to the zone after the two other zones in the state had held the position for eight years each.

Ugwuanyi said, “In and out of office, Sullivan Chime will remain my leader, he has shown love to our people by ensuring we got our fair share of political positions in Enugu State. He has also extended developmental projects to our people and we must make out time to celebrate him”

@Biafradream,
Are you sure that medview have commenced Enugu-Accra route cause I cant find the route on their website?

When did they commenced?

Well one of their staff by name Mgbike VC Mgbike said so, but I think they first stop at Lagos before going to Accra. He said that a trip costs N18000. According to him, Med-View has commenced a daily flight from Enugu-Accra.

However I will get more clarification from him, so I don't misinform people.
