FamilyRe: Marriage of an Educated Woman and Uneducated Man by Bibi(m): 4:44pm On Sep 06, 2005
So, according to you Jio, there are circumstances under which it can happen...
- the man has lorry-load of money or
- she's close to menoupause

The other reason I see is
- It could be a perfect way for a lady who has been "dealth with" by educated men. She would probably feel better appreciated.

I dont think we are here to encourage or discourage but analyze. No one is going to come to this forum to ask our point of view before making the marriage decision.

Anyway, I see this as a relationship based on a single need - Appreciation, both ways.
CrimeRe: Police Raid Oluwole, the Document Forgery Capital by Bibi(m): 3:48pm On Sep 06, 2005
We need to strive to encourage good behaviour and reject bad behaviour. Whe we see a child doing good, we encourage and not give in to bad behaviour. The same goes for government. We need to be positive in our outlook to recognise good and abhor bad.

Im tired of Nigerians reading negativity into every good did. The fact of acknowledging good did does not mean we are blind to their bad deeds. In the end, we are not better than the people we are criticizing.

great22:
I strongly agree with you. Why do we alwys decive oursleves . The goverment think by acting in some way they can redeem their image. Its everywhere however its paramount in the very top places. I am not impressed at all
Nairaland GeneralRe: Hurricane Katrina by Bibi(m): 2:03pm On Sep 06, 2005
Everybody can yab Bush anyhow. However, when disasters of such magnitude happens, even the most well laid out plans will be stretched to the limit. Such disasters cant be prevented, and when they occur, the devastation in many cases stalls any meaningful plan.

I have been involved in Disaster recovery plans and I can tell you, plans are always great on paper, in reality, they need to be adapted as you will not have luxury for standard routines. This is the case with the devastation caused by Katrina.

I would expect to see more Americans move en mass to help out the victims and do whatever to rebuild the damages. Talk shows and racial accusations dont help anybody.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Hurricane Katrina by Bibi(m): 9:30am On Sep 06, 2005
Thanks De-King: Talk about the difference between being proactive and reactive. This qualifies what we have being saying like what will happen if Katrina happens in Lagos. A reactive goverment wont even warn people in the 1st place, No emergency evacuation plans, no disaster recovery procedures etc. They will simply wait for people to die and then squable in the parliament for ages about what to do.

Thank goodness we dont have these massive hurricanes in Nigeria. Rather, God help us from our "human" hurricanes that are killing the people at a worse rate compared to Katrina.
PoliticsRe: Orji Kalu says President Obasanjo is Corrupt. EFCC Investigates. by Bibi(m): 5:56pm On Sep 05, 2005
Good that Obj agreed. Let EFCC also open Kalu's cupboard. He seems to make the loudest noice of the governors, either for real, diversion or media recognition.
FamilyRe: Marriage of an Educated Woman and Uneducated Man by Bibi(m): 5:52pm On Sep 05, 2005
either way, no reason why not. as long as they love and understand each other and can meet each others needs. If they both decide the educational gap is immaterial, so be it. In fact, I have seen many couples in Nigeria fitting that description and they are perfectly ok.

CultureRe: Nigerian Pidgin English as Our National Language? by Bibi(m): 4:20pm On Sep 05, 2005
Simply, pidgin means adultration of the original. We have pidgin in every form of Language - French, Yoruba (modern day yoruba with so many english words) etc. Every society have an unofficial lingo. The widespread of it does not replace the original. Otherwise, maybe we replace classical Yoruba and other Nigerian languages with the modern yoruba which is a mixture of yoruba, english, and whatever you can imagine.

Pidgin lacks form and character associated with real languages. It surely is a free form of expression. Pidging, though with wide acceptance also has differences from one region to another, i.e. Its more prevalent with easterners and not westerners or northerners. I think its an illusion to think that there are more pidging speakers than english, the truth is that there are many bad english speakers, we tend to classify them as speaking pidgin rather than unpolished, bad english. Its like accepting the modern day yoruba which is heavily diluted and mixed with English etc instead of the real Language itself.

If we have to have a national Language, lets speak something the world understands, or at worst, nothing prevents us from having 3 National languages - Ibo, Hausa and Yoruba. These are authentic languages. This is the case in South Africa, India, Belgium etc which have 2 or 3 national languages.

To accept what is inherently considered a twisted language as a national language is nothing but madness. We can as well adopt modern (pidgin) yoruba instead of the original one with its rich classics.
SportsRe: Nigeria Vs Algeria World Cup Qualifier by Bibi(m): 10:11am On Sep 05, 2005
yes we won, with our rusty team. I hope the team management will overhaul the mid-field before our next match. God was definitely a Nigerian yesterday.
CrimeRe: Police Raid Oluwole, the Document Forgery Capital by Bibi(m): 9:56am On Sep 04, 2005
Kudos to the new IGP. The police know most of the robbers and 419's, their haven, masters and collaborators. They should go after them with full "force".
PoliticsRe: Likelihood of NLC Strike over Fuel Price Increase by Bibi(m): 9:50am On Sep 04, 2005
Not sure Nigerians can get away without this increase this time. The fact is that people are already buying it. And think about it, this is not a nigerian issue, but global. I now buy petrol for 1.5euro/litre (roughly N250/l), from 1.05euro/l a few weeks back.

Also, note fuel pricing is not limited to petrol people put in cars, it relates to all petroleum products. The hype over petrol is that its the most comonly know due to its impact on ground transportation.

Moreso, Nigerians love sensationalism and will drop anything for sweet sensation and you know what, OBJ introduced the Atiku issue right at the height of the petrol palavar and right now, everyone is talking OBJ/Atiku and no more petrol increase. Simply put, Nigerians have quietly accepted the increase and I really dont see any meaningfull strike this time. I think instead of continuos battle over petrol prices, the people/ NLC should press strongly for a sustainable mass transportation system.
TravelWhat If A Tsunami Lands In Lagos? by Bibi(op): 9:40pm On Sep 03, 2005
what will happen if Katrina has Landed in Lagos or any of our coastal cities?

Can Lagos really survive it?. Can the goverment mobilise any relief with urgency to reach victims early?
Nairaland GeneralRe: Hurricane Katrina by Bibi(m): 6:50pm On Sep 03, 2005
With the Fallaout of the Katrina storm in New Orlean etc, there has been debate about whether the US should accept contributions from outside.

I want to narrow this topic:
- Should the US accept donations from the Arab countries, especially Syria, Saudi, Libya.
- Should the US accept donations from North Korea
- Should the US acept donations from Osama bin Laden?

if yes, why
if not, why

PoliticsRe: Will Atiku Get the Boot Soon? by Bibi(m): 3:38pm On Sep 02, 2005
Be careful. Abubakar has not been indicted either in US or Nigeria. Everything is mere speculations until proven otherwise. We seem to be playing out the drama a lot without the real actors.

Anticurruption in Nigeria is definitely another story.
PoliticsRe: Will Atiku Get the Boot Soon? by Bibi(m): 8:23pm On Sep 01, 2005
Ive said it before, many of you are after stretched sensational dramas. Abubakar knows what he's aiming for and would be so stupid to soil his hands. I think many people under-estimate the guy.

Right now, he's being reconciled with OBJ, while the raid on his house in US has done nothing but false whistles (so far).

Anyway, whatever is going on between Abu and OBJ is another matter. The Yar Ardua political machine which Atiku controls was instrumental in the emergence of OBJ as president and also being successful to manage the senate and reps that have at one time or the other almost whisked him out. OBJ owes Abu and his machinery, but he refuses to acknowledge it publicly.

Or may I say, OBJ is torn between loyalty to the Yar Ardua machinery that brought him to power and the inner caucaus of retired army generals. So does OBJ support Atiku and the Yar Adua Machinery or the Army caucus and support Babangida? This is OBJs dilema.

Anyway, OBJ needs to improve his statemanship. Picking fights with other politicians over the airwaves does not go well with the expected wisdom his position deserves (its Atiku now, it was the former PDP Chairman, It was Soloman Lar sometime back, etc, etc).

In the end, he will be reconciled with OBJ. Im also sure, nothing will come out of allegations of telecoms deal and house search.
EducationEducational System of Nigeria is Killing the Craftmen by Bibi(op): 9:10pm On Aug 29, 2005
Nigeria Educational System is Killing (has killed) the Craftmen

The Nigerian educational system is purely academic, demanding that everyone ends up in the University and the less fortunate, the Polythecnic. Take a look at the 6-3-3-4 system:
6 - Six years or peimary education. Purely academic.
3 - 3 years of junior secondary education
3- 3 years of senior secondary education
4 - X years of university/polythectic education

The system is not created to cater for crafts like Automechanic, Plumbers, Painters, etc and all those technical jobs that need a bit of education. The result is that the craftmen who happens to be the bedrock of any society are lacking. Today it is reserved for who don't go to school. They are looked down upon. The result is that we have a frustrated class, who learnt a trade and had a "freedom" from the boss who now decides he is qualified.

I think the government needs to bring back the Technical schools. This was the promise of the 6-3-3-4 that some kid who have flair for technical things will go to technical schools after Junior secondary school. This has not happend almost 15 years (?) after the startup of the 6-3-3-4 system. The results is everyone is now forced to go through the academic length and end up looking for white colar jobs.

I think those who have lived in Nigeria very well over the last years will understand this. You will understand what Im saying when it seams the mechanic is causing more problems for your car, your electrician is using his teeth to pull wires, your plumber is using glue to seal pipes etc.

The trade (technical) schools need to come back!!!!
Nairaland GeneralRe: My Life is Possessed by the Number Seven (7) by Bibi(m): 2:27pm On Aug 29, 2005
Cushman, I think you are a very lucky man, heres some ideas..

1. Youruba's will call you "Okunrin me je" - means you are a strong? man.
2. Shina Peter's says 7 is the number

Anyway, you seem like a lucky guy to me...some qustions?

Does your birthday include a 7?
The girl you liked most must have (had?) a seven in her birthday?
There will be a 7 in your wedding day (or are u married already? what was the date).

If you plan an event, make sure there is 7 in the number... grin grin
