Nairaland GeneralRe: Who is a True Nigerian? by Bibi(m): 8:25pm On Oct 02, 2005
I think most of you have been describing the adultrated Nigerians......,

I believe a true Nigerian is resilent, filled with hope for a good tomorrow. A good Nigerian belief in Justice, believe in God absolutely even when robbed by the leaders every day. A true Nigerian believes that working hard, one day he/she will become somebody in the society. A true Nigerian believes that if he doesnt make it in this life, his offsprings would and will carry on the glory of his family. A true Nigerian believes in hard work, believes that he must continue striving no matter how diificult, even dying in the process.

A true Nigerian is cheated everyday, swindled by the so called leaders, disregarded by the society he belongs to and scorned by those who had used him to get rich. A true Nigerian believes in a brighter tomorrow, is not discouraged by negativity in leadership, society, politics etc.

The true Nigerian is robbed daily, beaten by the police, swindled by government parastatals, denied basic amenities by the government he has voted for, punctual at work, works hard every day, salary delayed for several months. He is made to pay for services he will never enjoy (National Health and Pension Schemes, National housing fund, Insurrance, etc)

A true Nigerian do not see the difference in Hausa, Yoruba, Ibo, etc. He sees everyone possitively contributing to the glory of Nigeria.

The true Nigerians are in the market places, striving for their meagre income, they are in Niger delta, living in oil spilled villages, they are in the villages toiling in the burning sun, they are in the cities toiling day and night to make ends meet, they are the rich that spends their money on the masses, they build industries to employ many, they are philantrophic to a fault.

The true Nigerian are the "andrews". Though they toil in foreign land, their meagre resources is used to keep thousand at home. They work hard for every penny they earn. They are incorruptible. They live respectable lifes. The love their families, their kinsmen. They would give all they have to their fellow men than steal from them.

A true Nigerian is filled with love for fellow country men.

I love a true Nigerian.

Note: I'm too optimistic to a fault.
PoliticsRe: Bayelsa State Governor, Alamieyeseigha, Arrested In London! by Bibi(m): 7:10pm On Oct 01, 2005
@Whiteshark,

thanks O jare. I don't understand this hypocrisy of bringing the guy home to face "proper" justice when we all know that the political immunity within Nigeria will not allow "proper" justice, at least we are all living witnesses to how Dariye ran away on bail under similar circumstance. It was the same cry of Let him come home to face proper justice and what has happened? He came back to his governorship position and his political immunity cannot allow his prosecution. Even the goons in the state house of assembly refuse to investigate such impeachable offence. Hence the thieves are propering and protected.

If Nigeria has to suffer humiliation so that certain vices be corrected or at least minimized in our political class, then so be it. At least, we all know now that all these briefcase leaders will think twice before carrying their loaded briefcases across bothers again.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Are You An 'Ajebota' or An 'Ajepako'? by Bibi(m): 3:54pm On Sep 30, 2005
Isnt there a middle ground like "Ajebopa"? I think this is where a lot of folks fall these days...
Christianity EtcRe: Can a Man With Integrity Be Both a Soldier And a Christian? by Bibi(m): 4:43pm On Sep 27, 2005
I think everyone has gone off track. The question was "Can a Soldier be a Christian vice versa?"
Christianity EtcRe: Can a Man With Integrity Be Both a Soldier And a Christian? by Bibi(m): 3:07pm On Sep 27, 2005
In war, if soldiers die and get killed. If killing is done in an act of war, there is nothing unbiblical about that. Id like to see someone quote for me from the bible where God had said "lay down you weapon and allow yourself to be killed when attacked". Many people are just interpreting the 10 commandments literarily. The 10 commandments is for individuals and not a nation, it does not say Nations should not go to war, or if there is war, not to kill.

For those of you saying its sin for a soldier to kill at war, put yourself to test, carry a gun at war front and refuse to shoot, push out your chest and get all the bullets.

Any killing not done as act of war is definitely a sin, whether done by individual or nation. Same goes for War crimes where people are killed against the norms of war. The Geneva convention clearly defines killing in act of war.

So, A soldier can be a man of Integrity, A Man of God, a Very good christian and still kill at war, and go to heaven.
PoliticsRe: Asari Dokubo Arrested Over Threats to Blow Up Oil Installations by Bibi(m): 2:55pm On Sep 27, 2005
Well, I was in Nigeria last week and truely, Asari and his followers had threatened arson due to DSP's arrest in London which so far the British high commision has insisted its not political. If Asari and co wants their governor released, they should go to London and meet the police there.

Asaris followers publicly on TV last week gave goverment 5 days to release Aasari or they will start blowing up oil installations. The government doesnt have to wait for them to start before doing something about it. We may all blame government in many ways, but when people result to arson, lawlessness to drive home their demands, then I can say, the government has nothing to do but do whatever necessary to protect the poeple and the infrastructures.

The act of threathening the country with arson and civil unrest is an act of terrorism. If terrorism is missing in our constitution, it needs to be better defined now. There are civilized and contritutional ways to make demands, not threathening the whole of Nigeria for a thiefs arrest in london.

PoliticsWill Rotational Presidency Solve Nigeria's Political Problems? by Bibi(op): 11:22am On Sep 27, 2005
Several political groups, tribes and interest have been shouting that the next president comes from here and there. To me, rotational presidency is in itself an aberation, a confirmation of the failure of political process. It's an affirmation that we will sideline our best candidates for tribal choices.

I believe presidency as well as governors should be voted for, based on merit, public acceptance, etc. It should not be left for tribes to chose for the millions of N[tt][/tt]igerians. We may have much better candidates from other regions, why settle for less. The issue of better representation in government should not be targetted alone at which tribe the president comes from, rather the representation of the various ethnic groups in ministerial and parastatal appointments.

Many of us are witnesses to the Federal character principles that makes appointments (and JAMB admissions to Federal Universities) a issue of percentatges rather than merit, hence I know so many cases where less qualified people were given admissions because of 'federal character'.

1. Is rotational presidency a gurantee for good governance?
2. Will rotational presidency necessarily solve our problems of under-representation, resource control, etc?
3. What about merit and good governance? Are we throwing those to the wind? Why can't Nigerian have the best candidate rather than an ethnic choice?
4. What has ethnic presidents done for our present and past presidents ethnic groups? (Is there any significant advantage of Ibos over the rest of Nigerians during Azikiwe presidency, during Shagari presidency for the Fulanis? or currently during Obasanjo's presidency for the Yorubas?)

Rather, for those clamoring for rotational presidency, its an open declaration to use the post of presidency for the advancement of that ethnic group rather than the whole of nigeria. That, in itself is against the honour of the position of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The post should be a free for all contest in which the best? candidate is allowed to emerge rather than imposed on the populace.

What do you all think? Is rotational presidency democratic? Will it solve our problems of poor governance? Would it resolve or advance our issues with ethnic militants?
PoliticsRe: Bayelsa State Governor, Alamieyeseigha, Arrested In London! by Bibi(m): 9:14am On Sep 17, 2005
Its a shame that these briefcase governors (it was Dariye and now Alamieyeseigha) would be arrested and prosecuted abroad. As long as all these people have immunity in Nigeria, they will make EFCC redundant, which is why it is difficult for EFCC to go after these people in full swing.

Perhaps, if these people can exploit their immunity for a terrible advantage in Nigeria, I support EFCC to work with their foreign counterparts to wisk them off at any slight opportunity.

I'm also dismayed at the total lack of transparency. Its reputed that his political cohorts has labelled this as part of grandplan against the Ijaws. This is a sick conclusion. The Ijaw youths we thaught was fighting for transparency in the Delta is now shouting "dont prosecute our thieving governor" - sick.

Looks like our dear governors may be thinking twice now before passing through London. I hope the EFCC work with the rest of EU agencies to ensure these culprits are apprehended anywhere they chose to pass by. If these agencies are apprehending lots of ordinary Nigerians for 419 and associated financial crimes, the political class should not be excluded.

PoliticsRe: Likelihood of NLC Strike over Fuel Price Increase by Bibi(m): 2:08pm On Sep 15, 2005
That''s what I call a civilized protest and a civilized response, rather than previous confrontational and mostly destructive approach. Its noteworthy that Labour worked with the police to stage a peaceful rally. The old IG would have said NO WAY and display the normal confrontational stand, the new IG was rather "ok, lets work out the modality of the rally". Labour, Police and the Government seems to be getting more civilized. Who says Nigeria is not getting better?
BusinessRe: Starting a Bicycle Factory in Nigeria by Bibi(m): 12:11pm On Sep 15, 2005

Jokes EtcDirty Slap! by Bibi(op): 11:16am On Sep 15, 2005
President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor Orji Uzo Kalu, Agbani Darego (Miss World 2001), and Aviation Minister Kema Chikwe are sitting in a train going through a dark tunnel. Suddenly, there is a kissing sound and then a slap!

The train comes out of the tunnel into daylight. The women and Orji Uzo Kalu are sitting there looking perplexed, because everyone heard the slap, but nobody was sure were it came from. Obasanjo is bent over, holding his face which is red from the slap. All of them remain diplomatically quiet and nobody says anything, least of all, sorry!

Chikwe is thinking: "Nigerian men are all crazy and even these ones here are all lusting after Agbani. Obasanjo must have tried to kiss her in the tunnel. It is quite proper that she slapped him".

Agbani is thinking: "Mr President must have moved to kiss me, and got slapped... but by whom?"

Obasanjo is thinking: "Damn it, Orji must have tried to kiss Agbani, she thought it was me and slapped me... but could this little girl do such a thing without fear?"

Kalu is thinking: "If this train goes through another dark tunnel, I could make another kissing sound and slap Obasanjo again".

TravelRe: Recommend a Honeymoon Venue by Bibi(m): 1:00pm On Sep 13, 2005
I like it in Cross Rivers/Adamawa - The Obudu Ranch/Adamawa mountains. You enjoy a beautiful scenery and if you have your camping materials, a good time with nature. Dont travel with phones, maybe a radio, your cam corder/digi cam, climbing or walking boots and your full backpack. Take all the kind of pictures and videos you like. Its lots of fun. Forget Nigeria for a while.
FashionRe: Men Who Wear Pink ("Men In Pink") by Bibi(m): 12:50pm On Sep 13, 2005
Nooooo way. Never a Pink or purple or any "lady colour" again. I once wore a bright, lime colored shirt, given to my by "one of my wives?" for my birthday on a plane, I was in business class. It took devine intervention for a white guy not to rape me. He did everything to entice me on the plane, and off the plane before I escaped..... huh, ....... No way. Guys, its Black, brown, white , Grey and the shades...
RomanceRe: Interracial Dating & Marriage ("Jungle Fever") by Bibi(op): 12:39pm On Sep 13, 2005
Nddy, I think you raised a big issue regarding the demands of our black babes - mostly money, buy this, buy that etc. Guys needs lovin and thats what we get from the white chicks who want more lovin that the material things.

Btw - Angela K and Vexxy seem to confirm that black women tend to write off black guys who date/marry white ladies. For them, it looks like "isnt there enough pretty black babes out there?"

Vexxy : can you define "as strong black woman?"

Our options are not many and bribery cant do much or anything. The more amen to my prayer, the better our chances. I repeat..

"" may God give the Angolans diorhrea during the match, so the Rwandans score a dozen against them - Amen". and we blend this with the "home front" courtesy of Angela K

I beg Angela K, start burning and dancing now now. The more you do, the better our chances.

Anyway, I still belief in the lazy mans prayer " may God give the Angolans diorhrea during the match, so the Rwandans score a dozen against them - Amen". Do I hear the shout of AMEN? Can someone shout ALLELUYA!!!!!
PoliticsRe: Obasanjo's Library Launch: Do You Support it? by Bibi(m): 1:04pm On Sep 12, 2005
OBJ should have waited until hes out of office before this launching. Launching this while in office is rather seen as "arm twisting" by the donors who must have felt compelled to give, whatever the odds. If you give, you are criticized, if you dont, you might feel at disfavour with OBJ. What an irony for the donors.
