RomanceRe: Would You Date Your Friend's Ex? by Bibi(m): 8:54pm On Sep 11, 2005
If she was married with my friend, I wont date, we can be friends.
However, if they were not married, just dated, yes I will go out with her if we both feel that way. But I can only do this after they have separated for a while, say 6 months at least. Anything sooner, I consider disrespect to my friend.

according to the Yorubas "e je ka fi ese ile to o" - Lets follow-up in our traditional way,......or....

If God does answer this kind of prayer, Id say " may God give the Angolans diorhrea during the match, so the Rwandans score a dozen against them - Amen".
RomanceInterracial Dating & Marriage ("Jungle Fever") by Bibi(op): 8:39pm On Sep 11, 2005
Lets talk about "Jungle Fever"

Ive seen many movies and many situations whereby a black guy is dating a white girl. This is often referred to as Jungle fever (interrracial relationships - usually used in black/white relationships). The term, Jungle fever depicts its a disease for a relationship between black and white. Believe me, I have seen many white people, very good people, but the moment it becomes a relationship, these so nice people, choke, withdraw and becomes, em almost racist. The same reaction I see in black ladies mostly, who frown rather hard when they see a black guy with a white lady.

Does a black/white relationship have to be a disease? Is there any other thing better than good coming out of such relationships?

I can relate this to intertribal mariages in nigeria. It's not popular and Ive heard of it being refered to as a disease. Is it truely a disease?...maybe a nice disease?

What do you think about interracial relationships? Do you believe its a disease? Do you support it or frown at it?
Jokes EtcRe: Why I Stopped Visiting Rich People by Bibi(m): 5:31pm On Sep 11, 2005
Layi - I take it this happened in UK? They are the "tea" people (or your host is a Tokunbo), otherwise, if its Naija, you go for the "mineral" straight.

Anyway, dont be offended by this mentality, Im not sure it has to do with being rich, but whoever it was was trying to impress you in some ways.

Next time, just ask for water and you wont have to answer so many questions smiley.

Unless the rich also has so many varieties (or flavours) of water.....hmmmmm......
Nairaland GeneralWhich 3 parts of your body would you consider most important? by Bibi(op): 3:54pm On Sep 11, 2005
Depending on individual needs, we might find that we cherrish some parts of our body more than the other, given the benefit of choice. Our choices could be driven by our desires about look, sexuality, functionality, etc.

If for whatever reason you are asked which 3 parts of your body you would like to keep or more important than the others, which are those? And what are the reasons for selecting those parts?

Jokes EtcBody Building Pictures by Bibi(op): 3:47pm On Sep 11, 2005
Many guys go for boddy building as a way to have beautiful body to attract girls. They show off at the beach, pools and in summer with their sweat shirts, etc..

What do you think about bodybuilding? do you find it attractive?

What about body building in ladies, does any man dig that?

FamilyUsing First Names For Husband & Wife (Father & Mother) in the Family? by Bibi(op): 5:56pm On Sep 10, 2005
Most families wants to foster closeness with every member.

Is it right for mama and papa to be calling each other by their first names in front of their kids and outsiders?

Is it right for kids to be calling their parents by their first names?
PoliticsRe: Do We Need to Maintain Huge External Reserves? by Bibi(op): 4:17pm On Sep 10, 2005
Obong, you are right, we need to plan. However, when you save, you dont starve yourself to death. The concern is the HUGE external reserve. A sizable percentage should be directed to basic needs like education, health, transportation etc as Ive said. Privatization isnt going to fix those. They are the basic necessities of a society for which our government is failing. Have you seen Schools, hospitals and roads in Nigeria lately? More than 70% of graduates ends up unemployed after school, hence 419, scramble abroad, etc.

This HUGE reserve is nothing but evidence of lack of leadership foresight.

Again I repeat, goverment should selectively spend on basic infrastructures (when basic infrastructure is right, foreign investment in economy is improved). They should not stave off such huge money for the next Shagari or Babangida to blow away.

SportsRe: We've Brushed Algeria Aside; how do we stop Angola? by Bibi(m): 2:04pm On Sep 10, 2005
The only way we can be there is:

If we beat Zimb, while Angola draws or loses to Rwanda. Any other scenario, we lose.

If Angola beats Rwanda, we are gonners, no matter how many goals we score against Zimb.

Please be on your knees and pray hard. If Angola goes to world cup at our expense, we have ourselves to blame (for losing to them in Luanda and drawing with them in Kano)
PoliticsDo We Need to Maintain Huge External Reserves? by Bibi(op): 12:02pm On Sep 10, 2005
Nigeria external reserves (savings) is said to have reached about $25 billion (http://allafrica.com/stories/200508230086.html). However, people are suffering, no jobs while cost of living is increasing daily due to inflations.

1. Do we need to maintain this huge external reserves?
2. Why can't the government be innovatiove to spend this people on productive sector of economy to drive employment?
3. Is it needed for OBJ to save so much money for Nigeria? Remember, he left so much money back in 1979 only to be squandered by Shagari. Why not use the money to better the lot of Nigerians now.
    3.1: The schools are dillapidated
3.2: The health system is dillapidated
3.3: The transport sector is dillapidated
3.4: Youth unemployment is about 60%+.
3.5: Mortality rate is reduced to 49 years
3.6: Poverty rate is about 70%+

With all these problems that require goverment to actively spend money on above sectors, why save the money for looters who will squander it again? Much like IBB squandered the windfall from the 1990 Gulf war?

Anybody out there reading this? OBJ? Okonjo-Iweala? - Why do we have to save so much when we are hardly feeding ourselves or fullfilling the basic needs of humianity?
SportsRe: We've Brushed Algeria Aside; how do we stop Angola? by Bibi(m): 11:38am On Sep 10, 2005
The only way we can stop Angolahuh yew...I hope someone will not read what Im about to say...

ok, here are my options...

1. Bribe the Angolans to lose to Rwanda...that will cost lots of money though.
2. Hijack their plane on way to Rwanda and blow it up.
3. Strike the (angolan) players with some disease on the day of the match so they cant play well.
4. Kidnap the (angolan) players families and hold them to ransom to lose.

There is no point bribing the Rwandans, there is no magic they can perform.

God will not be on any one side this time. So its up to luck, raw intervention or something?

The only prayer is for God to help us beet the Zimbabweans, everyone is overlooking this. Even if some bad luck overcomes the Angolans and we lose to Zimbabweans at home?..God forbid.

We are talking soccer, anything can happen.
PhonesRe: A Review of Your Phone by Bibi(m): 11:21am On Sep 10, 2005
All I need and have is a simple phone that rings and does SMS. Apart from that, Im too busy to spend time on the new toy phones. Its proven that most people that use these sophisticated phones use less than 10% of the functionalities, so why waste the money?...especially in Nigeria where the network is not so sophisticated.

BusinessRe: Global Business Outsourcing and Nigeria by Bibi(op): 5:35pm On Sep 09, 2005
Yes EzehM....thats Nigeria's biggest problem--TRUST. 419 has completely basterdized the country abroad. It is unfortunate the goverment has being paying lip service to the issue of corruption.

Outsourcing cannot be worked in isolation, it takes a huge trust from the Outsourcer to give the business completely to a foreign firm. Where the issue of payment for service upfront is required, you can be sure Nigeria cannot make a dime. However, if our services are commoditized for sale (we recieve based on what we deliver), im sure it will fly. But the basis is still international trust which is at our disfavour for the moment.

How can we get out of this trust problem?
PoliticsRe: Orji Kalu says President Obasanjo is Corrupt. EFCC Investigates. by Bibi(m): 4:54pm On Sep 09, 2005
Saintjoe - all Im saying is, all we have at the moment are accusations. Until investigations reveal how corrupt people are, we should be open minded about the whole thing. Saying OBJ is more corrupt than Kalu (and vice versa) is unfounded, we dont have that info.

Hopefully EFCC will continue to operate independently. The average Nigerian politician smells of massive corruption and usually the most loud have the biggest skeleton.

To my opinion, Kalu is extending every stigma he can to OBJ and co because of his preseidential ambitions. I would rather have expected to see Kalus's glorious performance in office (which is not so) as his propellant. We Nigerians should not just follow blindly these types of heavy dramatism, where the actor is as bad as the vilain being portrayed. If OBJ is failing, definitely Kalu cannot even deliver half as much as OBJ. The posting by Imnakoya tells us a bit of "the man - Kalu"- huh
FamilyRe: Incest In The Family by Bibi(m): 12:42pm On Sep 09, 2005
At that age, Im not sure its incest (necessarily). They are not aware of the gravity of what they are doing. At that age, children are becoming more curious and parents shy away thinking they cant understand. Most parents havent talked about sex to their young ones, less educating them about incest. I would simply make sure I spend time with them, letting them understand what they can and cannot do and introduce some changes in the family routines.

However, its incest for people who know the gravity and continue to indulge it. Like Mother and Son, Father and Daughter, or mature brother and sister.

PoliticsRe: Orji Kalu says President Obasanjo is Corrupt. EFCC Investigates. by Bibi(m): 7:48pm On Sep 08, 2005
Whether what Orji said about OBJ is true or not is left to EFCC to decide. However, I still maintain that his loud mouth is not out of sincererity but ladden with dirty hidden agenda (which includes setting EFCC on a dry run, chassing shadows, so he may be overlooked).

Pictures speak words...how can someone who cannot clear the debris in Aba think he can do better in Abuja? Manager of Nigeria ko, Manager of Nigeria ni.

...its unbelievable how many businesses he has sprung between 1999 to date. If hes not draining Abia that fast, then it possible he's more dedicated to running his personal business than running Abia state.......man, just look at the debris!.

RomanceRe: His Girlfriend Has Grown Too Fat For Him to Marry by Bibi(m): 12:15pm On Sep 08, 2005
Does it matter how fat? what is fat for you may not be fat for another, so its relative. Since they are not married and the girl is adamant about doing something with her weight, I think the guy can have a review. There is no obligation at this stage of their relationship.

However, as someone said......the guy needs to weigh the options, start another courtship or marry a slim babe who is likely to grow fat (normally with women) after the 1st child?

I think its early to judge about fatness before the 1st or second baby. Guys, I ask you to look at the mum of the lady you are marrying upfront and decide, do you like that flabby old woman? if you do, go marry the girl. The mother is the mirror of the babe you are marrying and provides you the clue of what she becomes even if she looks like miss nigeria now.

BusinessRe: Global Business Outsourcing and Nigeria by Bibi(op): 1:12pm On Sep 07, 2005
Thanks to all that have contributed so far.

However, i disagree that the level of our infrastructural development is a catalyst for outsourcing. How did outsourcing start to become a global phenomenom? It was simply due to opportunistic shift in production and services by major companies over the last few decades. The intent is for those companies to be more competitive in the developed market.

Some of the opportunistic approach could be linked to AGOA (http://www.agoa.gov/). AGOA is the forum sponsored by the US whereby the developing countries in scope are given free tax incentives to ship their commodities for sale in the US. The commodities include - Raw and processed agricultural products, clothing, decorations (carvings, paintings, etc) etc.

So far, reports indicate Nigeria and Nigerians have not taken any giant stride to take up this opportunity. We dont need heavy infrastructure to do this.

AGOA presents opportunity to develop these base industries. Nigerian clothing firms are shutting down, laying off many people. Yet i dont see them taking this opportunity with the US. Same goes for our so called "fashion designers". I watched CNN the other day to see a whole town of more than 50,000 people in China solely producing bras.

Most clothing in the West is now produced in Asia. Europe has lower taxes for African agricultural products than from other regions, US is free.

This to me is basic outsourcing and we are not doing it. Why? are we too inward looking to see these external opportunities? Are we so engrossed with get rich quick that we shy away from these type of investments?
CultureRe: Nigerian Pidgin English as Our National Language? by Bibi(m): 10:08am On Sep 07, 2005
Whiteshark, nobody is saying pidgin is not here to stay. The topic is Can we adopt it as National language? The answer is emphatically NO. It remains a form of communication but lacks the merit of a real language to be adopted a national language.

There is no good way of ending a relationship. Someone will always get hurt. Better let the cat out of the bag before its too late. If not careful, that baby go soon carry belle o and that na the way nigerian girls they take tie guys down.
FamilyRe: My Mother, My Wife: Who Comes First? by Bibi(m): 6:32pm On Sep 06, 2005
Looks like the guys are still crying mum (maybe they need some milk) huh while the ladies are saying - wife grin

I think when you are married, your wife comes first to your mother. Remember even in the vow ".......forsake all others...".

Also, when you are married, your mum or father do not have responsibility in your home, it is simply you and your wife and your parent are only involved when you invite them, period. Anything otherwise, your marriage is on a slide. Remember your mum belongs to your father, she comes first for your father, not you. You are just a bye product of their snuggling grin
PoliticsRe: Does Ethnicity Matter for Governorship? by Bibi(m): 6:15pm On Sep 06, 2005
The constitution provides that anyone can assume any political post irrespective of tribal affiliations as long as the person was born or domiciled in that environment for a certain number of years (10yrs? not sure).

The fact is that Nigerians are tribal by nature and irrestive of where you were born, you do not belong as long as you have a different tribal heritage.

Ethnicity should not matter, but it does and I think Nigerians are not ready for what the constitution says.

Forget about Ibo vs Yoruba, even Yorubas from Ondo will not accept Yoruba from Ekiti state. Its just bad. As long as we see this state or that as Yoruba, or Hausa or Ibo we have already inadvertently coded a message "it belongs to the sons of the soil".

So, in conclusion, with the present reality in our polity, Ethnicity matters, even down to the level of councillors and local goverment chairmen.
CultureRe: Nigerian Pidgin English as Our National Language? by Bibi(m): 6:06pm On Sep 06, 2005
Please do not compare Yoruba, Kanuri, Hausa, Ibo etc to Pidgin. That is an insult to our authentic languages. Please see the definition of Pidgin as posted by Seun.

Seun:
A Pidgin, or contact language, is the name given to any language created, usually spontaneously, out of a mixture of other languages as a means of communication between speakers of different tongues. Pidgins have rudimentary grammars and restricted vocabulary, serving as auxiliary contact languages. They are improvised rather than learned natively.
