maxiuc: madam you like it or not am still better than that first class holder Who can't write simple application letter
Once again swerve let me see correct people I guess you're better; *"I'm not am"* I'm is a contraction for I am, which I believe you actually meant. And oh... it's, "...who can't write "a" simple letter". I guess you're better than the first class graduate if you can't respect simple rules of grammar and spelling. |

victorakpabome: Wait, how come universities are just churning out First Class Degrees nowadays? Is it not the same university we went to in the early 2000's? Or is the Nigerian University System no more functional? What a paradox! So a functional University system should churn out fewer first class graduate? You're just threatened by their class of degree. You're a hater. You should weep for not studying well enough during your undergrad. Olodo rabata. I guess the system in European and North American schools are faulty since they produce no less that 30% of first class at each convocation. |

deenee: Impressive! First class or not, degrees should be awarded for both character and learning. Meaning that degrees should not be based on academic excellence only. So typically a first class graduate should be the best of both worlds as the saying goes.
I will agree with you that recruitment policies that focus mainly on academic grades is not the right way attract the best talent but also the schools also need to raise the bar when it comes to awarding degrees. Note that this is not to say that people who truly have worked for and deserve a first class shouldn't get it but the truth is this; the output from a handful of these first class holders is so dismal and just leaves a sour taste and impression and what typically happens is people begin to wonder how other lower grade holders will perform if a first class holder's performance is below par. So therefore recruiters are forced to ask for other qualifications esp from degree holders with 2.1 and below.
My final take is this first class or not what matter is how you can pull your weight in the outside world.
Afterall Tony Elumelu finished with a 3rd class and see where he is today. I often wonder why there are such negativities on first class graduates. The bitter truth is, we are quick to point out people who made 3rd class or similar low grade and are doing great. However, we fail to mention those who have excelled in academics and are pulling weight in the society. That said: There are certain jobs requiring a very high level of attention to detail which, believe me your third class graduates which you propose be given same opportunity as the first class can not handle. We really do underestimate first class graduates in this part of the world. Maybe it's the fvcked up system which is highly supportive of mediocres/mediocrity with a baseless question; "who first class ep?" |

ICaSNg: Whao---Honest Questions based on intentions...lol
Individual Universities offer up to 50% off Tuition fees for most taught masters program and a few full sponsored research Masters or PhD programs. High ranked Universities are quite pricey and have limited scholarship programs available to foreign students exceptions to research programs definitely.
So, If you study 1 year masters degree / level 9 Postgraduate degree program you automatically qualify for 2 years post-study-work permit. If you are lucky enough to get additional 2 years employer-sponsored program to make 4 years ; you can apply for indefinite leave to remain permanently in the Country.
Getting married to an Irish will give you a spousal visa for a number of years not indefinitely... at least not at first issue. (This is from my experience with UK visa and Immigration requirements/procedure)
Maybe someone who got married to an Irish citizen will be able to provide more information.
Cheers lol. Indeed, the questions are actually based on intentions. thanks for your response though. |

People still think students bid for first class sha? It surprises me.
All the people I know that sorted their way through school end up with either 2² or marginal 3¹ (third class). Nairalanders first class isn't cheap. If it is why not get it.
That you can't make a first class in 4,5,6 years you spent in the University doesn't give you the effrontery to bad-mouth on people who achieve such feat. |

This is a really wonderful thread. Before now I had been wondering why people don't talk about Ireland (studying and working there) as such.
My questions: Are there full scholarship opportunities for First class graduates to do a Master's degree? If yes/no, which high ranked Universities are good enough?
And if I may ask, is citizenship guaranteed (without stress) by getting married to an Irish? |

MVLOX: Dats true u knw but that was in the past... Nigeria has evolved into a country where u nid go get it for urself.... Lemme use myself as an example, I have an NCE in physics and chemistry but concluded my BSc in Geology last year. I didn't bother going for clearance cuz in all honesty I don't nid it. I immediately started working with a high profile school cuz of my previous experience in the educational field. As we speak not only am I enjoying my Jab which is moderately ok in terms of pay and gathering more experience that will catapult me for better jabs while my friends re currently in service and complaining bitterly. Now its possible that a very few will be able to get good paying jabs after NYSC but majority will search and search until they have no other choice and fall back to what they have despised in the past, which is starting small, learning a trade or learning a skill. The irony of it all is that by that time those who took the initiative forthwith would have made some serious steady progress leaving the rest to wonder why it took them so long to tow the same path. I recently went to abuja for a jab interview, got the jab but didn't take it cuz even though d pay was good but it wouldn't pan out to much in terms of saving in a city like Abuja. Take note all this I did without an NYSC certificate. In my option the NYSC has lost its value and should be replaced by the Npower scheme. As for me I rather go learn a skill, trade or just go into the labour market and fight for the little scraps and make progress over time rather than sacrifice one whole year to NYSC where majority are assigned to the classroom, something they don't even enjoy. My experience has taught me that experience and starting small is the key in view of the current economic climate of Nigeria. Take note this is just my option. And yes because its working for me doesn't mean it would be applicable to others and work for them too. Methinks your thoughts are uncoordinated. You have an NCE, BSc and you're working with it, God knows how. Yet you feel others should go learn a trade. I don't get. |
