Once again, my friend Reasons why ICPC did not get the same attention EFCC is getting:
1. It's not well funded
2. It did not have proper authority to Carry out it's operation.
3. President doesn't show any respect or interest (since it is not directly beneficial to the president)
4. They refused to operate the way the president has recommended
5. Most members are older, well educated, have incredible credibility and can not be easily manipulated by anyone.

If that's the case, modification and empowerment would have been the proper solution; not creating another organization and wasting money we do not have. I believe, the presidency couldn't take this action, because modifying this organization (ICPC) would have been worthless or disadvantageous for the accomplishment of Mr. President's personal agenda. Hence the best action is to leave the ICPC activate and create a new submissive organization (EFCC).
The main purpose of this strategy is to keep folks quiet by leaving ICPC active and implementing a real political tool (EFCC) for the president. |

Politics › EFCC Probes President Obasanjo by BigB11(op): 5:49pm On Feb 20, 2007 |
Wow! EFCC Probes ObasanjoThe Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating the President's alleged link with some businesses in violation of the Constitution, its chairman said yesterday. Mr Nuhu Ribadu said his agency was probing allegations that Obasanjo was involved in ownership or management of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) and the Bells University.
Ribadu was, for 60 minutes yesterday, guest of The Nation in Lagos."We are investigating and we will come out with our report" on these establishments, he said. The EFCC boss said the outcome of the investigation would be tabled for public consumption. Obasanjo's critics say he owns 200 million shares in Transcorp, the new business giant that is making waves in Nigeria. The Action Congress (AC) and the Atiku Campaign Organization led the way in disclosing these to Nigerians. He also allegedly owns the Bells University, licensed last year, as well as other businesses, whereas the 1999 Constitution prohibits public functionaries from engaging in private businesses while in office. The chairperson of Transcorp which bought majority stake in Nicon Hilton and the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL), Mrs Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke, the chief executive of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). She once confirmed that Obasanjo Farms Limited bought the said shares. Mrs Okereke-Onyiuke is officially a member of Obasanjo's economic team. Trancorp is into oil, telecommunications, agriculture, trade and entertainment. At yesterday's interview session at The Nation, Ribadu battled fiercely to defend the integrity of the EFCC, which has come under severe attacks, following its listing of politicians who, it says, should not run for office. The limits of the commission's power have also been a subject of controversy. All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) presidential candidate Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) has alleged that the list of "indicted" politicians sent to the Federal Government was "doctored". Ribadu said the list being "doctored" was irrelevant as it was incumbent on the Federal Government to do whatever it likes with it. He was passionate in replying questions - raising his hand at times in driving home his point. Other times, he would just smile.
To the EFCC chairman, the commission, having completed its assignment on the "indicted politicians", the onus is on the government to accept it or reject it as employed by the 1999 Constitution. Ribadu said he was "perfectly in harmony" with every step taken to frustrate the political ambition of the "indicted politicians", insisting that they must be barred from contesting the April polls so as to prevent them from further damage of the economy. Ribadu said his visit to 27B, Fatai Atere Way, Matori, Lagos Mainland home of The Nation was in acknowledgment of this newspaper's solidarity and guidance in the battle against corruption. Ribadu said although Gen. Buhari was entitled to his own opinion, it was far from the truth as others whose names appeared on the original list were not seeking for any elective post. He said: "I don't want to belabour myself on opinions of individuals but the fact is that as law enforcement agents, we have our role to play and responsibilities. Talking about the list now, if you go by the Constitution, it says that is a candidate is indicted for fraud or corruption, that indictment will have effect if government accepts it. "In respect of the work we are doing, the Constitution says if there is an indictment, such indictment must be accepted by the government. This indictment was done by us and this has been on for sometime. And it is as a result of the work he has done in the last three to four years ago. "We got the list of candidates for the April elections and we went to our own data to crosscheck whether we have investigated some of them at one point or the other. At the end, we wrote to the political parties that the list some of your candidates have a case with us but our letter was not responded to."
Ribadu stood his ground that EFCC could indict people, even as his guests tendered the Constitution and the Oxford dictionary in their bid to prove the EFCC wrong. It was a heated session. Specifically, Ribadu insisted that the commission had not embarked on any illegality as due process as specified in the Constitution and the EFCC Act was its guide. He said the Federal Government was constitutionally empowered to accept the commission's findings with a view to issuing a white paper on the matter. "We have only one government in Nigeria. The President has the mandate of Nigerians. And we cannot take the list to Tony Blair. So this is the only government we have and we took this list and handed it to government as we cannot take it to ANPP. By that mandate, they have the right to accept it and what they do with it is their own responsibility," Ribadu said.
On whether the rights of the indicted politicians were breached, Ribadu said some of them where invited, but they chose to ignore the EFCC. This, according to him, was in order, although the governors on the list were not invited because of the immunity placed on them by the Constitution. Besides, he cleared the air on former Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, saying the erstwhile Minister and Labour Party governorship candidate in Ondo State was not being investigated.
On why some names were omitted in the list, Ribadu said it was deliberate as they were not seeking for any elective post. "A lot of Nigerians have been indicted today but their names are not in the list because they are not contesting today. I must confess that what we are doing today is for all of us," Ribadu said.
"The list is an opportunity for the parties to change those indicted with another credible ones if they don't want to loose their chances of fielding candidates for the April polls," Ribadu said. UPDATE: Source is www.efccnigeria.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1290&Itemid=2 |
Politics › The Real Difference Between ICPC And EFCC? by BigB11(op): 5:23pm On Feb 20, 2007 |
Difference between the two organizations(according to the book)The EFCC is primarily charged with the responsibility of enforcing laws relating to banking, money laundering, advance fee fraud (419), miscellaneous offences and any other laws or regulations relating to economic and financial crimes, including the criminal code and the penal code.
The EFCC does not have any time limitations as to when a crime was committed.
The EFCC has power to prosecute directly without going through the attorney General's office. The ICPC, on the other hand, focuses on curbing bribery and corruption in the civil/public service and is limited in time to those offences committed from year 2000. To me personally, I think both organizations are very similar in a lot of ways; and there is absolutely no reason to establish the second one when the operation of the first one could have be modified. There is definitely shady reason behind the implementation of the second entity. Think about it. This is the real difference between the two:ICPC is an organization that understands democracy and embraces respect for the law. This organization focuses on a group concept and can not be easily manipulated by the president. In-fact 85% of their members are older, well educated, and experienced Nigerian citizens. The credibility of each of these members is untouchable. Believe it or not, the president is well aware that this group of people will not tolerate being used as the war gear or political fighting tool. And I think this is the main reason why the second organization was quickly established. EFCC on the other hand is an organization that operates under the umbrella (concept) of a single entity. It is also known that the organization is directly being controlled and monitored by the president. The members are pretty younger and full of energy, but can also be easily subjugated. As bright as the intention or the vision of this organization appears to be, it is not uncommon for one to doubt their credibility and operational style. |

On Kalu's interview:
I've tried many times to skip this topic because I do not like getting involved with things that aren't clear to me, but something pushed me today to check out the topic and here is my reaction:
Wow, unbelievable. Let's forget about Mr.Kalu's English speaking during this interview, this is not my concern; instead, let's focus on his appearance, facial expression, and his state of mind.
During the interview, I quickly realized that Mr. Kalu is unfocused, unprepared and incompetent to be a governor of any state in Nigeria. Through out the interview period, the man sounded like a secondary school class captain. He did not answer most of the questions clearly, he did not pay attention to most of the questions, he was very uncomfortable, very defensive and sounded as if he was in the court room in-front of a judge. What is this? Ridiculous and unbelievable.
It is time for Nigerian leaders want to bessss, to realize and understand the true roles and qualities of an effective/ successful leader.
Being a leader is not for everybody and that doesn't mean that the unqualified folks are stupid. It is what it is; is either you have it or you don't. As a smart man, it is totally unnecessary to force anything because at the end of the day you're going to be the one that looks like a clown.
To be a leader; you must be able to express yourself clearly and competently, you must be a role model at all time, you must be able to think quickly and come up with bright answers, you must be charismatic, you must be confident, you must naturally care about people, you must posses interpersonal skill, you must be able to make tough decision quickly, you must think broadly, you can not flipflop, every decision must be final, you must have mental and physical stamina, you must respect/ adore your country etc.
But I'm sorry, during this interview I did not see any of these qualities. It is embarrassing and disgusting that this man also stated that he wants to become the next Nigerian president.
It's time to send a message to Nigerian people in general that just because you are rich and have several successful businesses doesn't make you a true leader.
Mr. Kalu is a fine man, but he should please refocus his energy in operating his gigantic businesses and leave the leadership role to those people that deserve to be considered.
May God bless sweet Nigeria. |

17/2/07 Ghana’s Minister of Presidential Affairs, Mr Kwawo Mpiani, has proclaimed Globacom Limited, Africa's fastest growing telecommunication network, as a credible and good corporate citizen that should be invited to invest in Ghana, just as he commended the company for donating one billion cedis to Ghana's historic 50th Independence Anniversary.
At a presentation ceremony held at the presidential Castle, Osu, Accra on Thursday, Mr Mpiani who doubles as the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, thanked Globacom for its generous donation to Ghana's 50th Independence Anniversary celebration even though it has not started operating in Ghana.
Mr. Mpiani, who is also the Chairman of the National Planning Committee of the 50th Independence Anniversary, said he was particularly impressed with Globacom's operational achievements within just three-and-a-half years in operation.
"We have investigated you and confirmed that you are a credible organisation. I am happy to note the rapid progress made by your company within such a short time. This is a rare achievement and yours is the kind of corporate citizens that should be invited to invest in Ghana", he said.
He pledged the support of the people and government of Ghana to Globacom. Globacom's Head of New Markets and Special Projects, Mr. Yinka Olafimihan, who presented the cheque of one billion cedis to the Chief of Staff on behalf of Globacom Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr, said the donation "is a token of our love and admiration to the government and good people of this great country. We believe that we do not have to wait till we launch our operation in Ghana before contributing our own little quota to your celebrations".
He commended the government and people of Ghana for nurturing peace and tranquility in the country and for their friendly disposition towards investors.
"We wish to note that since we expressed our interest to do business in Ghana, we have been accepted with open arms by both the people and government.
"Let us assure you that we see Ghana as home. We want to be an integral part of your life as we have been in Nigeria in the past three-and-a-half years", Olafimihan told the Chief of Staff.
Earlier, Globacom had also donated US$50,000 to the CAN 2008 Business Club in Accra as a modest contribution towards the successful hosting of the 2008 African Cup of Nations by Ghana.
Globacom Limited began operation in Nigeria in August 2003 as the country’s second national telecommunications carrier.
In line with its vision of building the biggest and most efficient telecommunications network in Africa, Globacom quickly deployed its world class telecommunications infrastructure across Nigeria, crashing the cost of telephony in the country and introduced innovative products and services.
Regarded as Nigeria’s most innovative telecommunications company, Globacom raised the bar on value propositions for subscribers by introducing onto the market a bouquet of products and services, including Per Second Billing, Mobile Internet and Blackberry. The network has also successfully conducted a 3G trial.
Over the past three and a half years, Globacom has endeared itself to Nigerian telecommunication subscribers as a compassionate and socially responsible corporate entity with a strong tradition of giving back to the society.
The company sponsored the 2003 All Africa Games held in Nigeria even when it had not fully launched its operations in the country and is currently the official sponsor of the Nigerian Premier League (Christened The Globacom Premier League).
Globacom is also the official sponsor of all the national teams of Nigeria and it recently took up the responsibility of paying the salary of Mr. Berti Vogts, the new Technical Director of the Super Eagles from now till the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
All these factors contributed towards making Globacom the fastest growing telecommunications network in Africa, serving over 12 million subscribers across Nigeria.
The company took over the sponsorship of CAF’s Annual Awards ceremony in 2005 and has since transformed the event into the biggest sports fiesta on the continent.
The prestigious continental 2006 GLO-CAF Awards was incorporated into the itinerary of Ghana's 50th anniversary celebrations earlier in February when Ghana@ 50 Chairman, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby met with Globacom’s Director of Promotions, Events & Sponsorship, Mr. Folu Aderibigbe.
The main GLO-CAF Awards event, slated for March 1, 2007 at the Accra International Conference Centre, will be graced by the Presidents of the Republic of Ghana, Nigeria, Togo and Benin Republic, stars of the as well as the awards nominees and the CAF President, Alhaji Issa Hayatou and his executive committee members. |

@Shutmouth FYI: My reason and my side:
Please do not get it twisted folks, my support for IBB remains incompressible.
The man is smart, well respected by many, has incredible style, he's focused, has the capability to chain things down effectively and efficiently in Nigeria, has the stamina to put stop into corruption among all government officials and the man is mercifully craving for a successful system in Nigeria.
Believe me, he recognizes his mistakes and he also deserves to be given a chance to redeem himself.
Believe me, currently things are very very fragile in Nigeria and if we are not careful, Nigeria will be turned into Iraq or Somali very soon; and guess who will suffer?
We must look forward to move forward; it's time to let go the past and allow the most competent and respected individual to rectify things in Nigeria.
You can go ahead and criticize me if you want, it is very easy for you to hide in another country and speak fire, but you do not know what I know.
Yaradua, Jonathan, Buhari, Atiku, Kalu and even OBJ are alright, but at this point in time in Nigeria they can not and will not move our country forward effectively, efficiently and unitedly. It is very important to understand what these 3 terms (effectively, efficiently and unitedly) stand for, I use them a-lot. It takes a genius to know and understand what is needed to accomplished all 3 points. I can assure you that IBB will knock out all 3 within the first 8 months in power.
Regardless of who happens to be the next Nigerian president (If it's not IBB), IBB will never be touched negatively by anyone and he will be involved heavily in contributing toward making Nigeria the Giant of Africa once again.

This short article just came in this morning: Lagos, Nigeria
Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given Globacom chairman Mike Adenuga its highest honour of Order of Merit in Gold crowning him Pillar of Football in Africa.
Adenuga, along with Sudan's President, Beshir al-Bashir, and the heads of state of CAF founding fathers - Egypt, Ethiopia and South Africa was so honoured at CAF's General assembly in Khartoum, Sudan, which was part of the events marking the confederation's Golden Jubilee celebrations.
According to a CAF offical, Adenuga has been personally involved in promoting and developing football not only in his country but across the continent. It was therefore very easy to get the executive committee to agree to bestow on him our highest honour.
Without a doubt, Adenuga is the Pillar of African Football. Adenuga, through his telecommunications company Globacom, has been bank rolling the CAF awards since 2005.
Globacom is also the title sponsor of the Nigerian Premier League for the next four years as well as the major sponsor of the countrya-s national teams.
The company has also in the past been the shirt sponsor of two-time African champions Enyimba. |

@Topic
This is not the first or the second time he has stayed in this luxurious hotel; infact he met with one of my close associates at the same hotel few months ago. He's a great guy who is just doing what the others do on a regular basis.
Please do not blame the man. This is the way it goes and this is not just in Nigeria; there are many other poor African countries with the same philosophy. They go around the world spending like there is no tomorrow while the people, the citizens, they suppose to serve are sitting at home suffering; It is a shame, but this is how it has been done for many many years.
I call them high rollers, unbelievable ways of living. It makes no sense and it doesn't match the stories coming out of Africa every single day. Do you know how much it cost Nigeria to furnish Governors' houses every 4 years? Unbelievable.
Technically, Fani Kayode's annual salary as a minister is very much less than 20,000 Dollars, which means a week at this hotel is pretty much over his yearly salary.
How do you explain that? Could you ask Mr. EFCC to explain that to us?
People wake up; our problem must be resolved from the root. Stop dancing to fake music and let us join hands and embrace perfection and credibility in Nigeria.
We need a strong experienced leader who can not afford to mess up. |

Your insight on this matter is appreciated. But I must correct one of your comments. But he doesn't do him or anybody else any good if he bolts from law enforcement agencies I do not blame him for his most intelligent decision to get out of the way for the politicians to do their thing. I'm 100% sure that the man is strong and doing well where ever he may be. Eventhough he's currently away from home, but all his businesses continue to prosper; I believe they've just signed a 600 million Dollars deal with another telecommunication company to empower their services to Nigerian people. Few months ago, they also introduced the first blackberry in Nigeria. More people find it extremely feasible to reach their folks in the village and all across the world with Mike Adenuga's incredible services. They've also signed a new contract with the Green Eagles new coach. In few weeks, they will be doing the second CAF award in Ghana to commend all the African athletes (soccer stars) from all over the world; This is another method to display to the world in general that Africa is capable. This is to show folks that when you're blessed by GOD with wisdom; Haters could only try, but they will never succeed. May God continue to bless this man and I hope his magnificent spirit to develop his country, Nigeria never goes away. |

So, what are you guys talking about?
The ruling is fine, but let us do it the right way; all of them are dirty, hence they should all be disqualified.
The case is not closed till the judgment is distributed accordingly.
It is unacceptable to use the Nigerian constitution to accomplish personal agenda; and that is what is going on here, my friends.
Just close your eyes for a minute; what do you think will happen to OBJ and his people if Atiku happens to be the next Nigerian president? The answer is Ineffable And this is why this fight is the biggest fight for OBJ; he has no choice, but to win.
And this is also why our constitution is being used as a fighting gear.
How come Mr. president and his people did not implement this policy or law during the 1999 election?
What is good for PETER is also perfect for PAUL.
We must stop following or embracing stupidity and start to do things the right way in Nigeria for a change; or else there will never be a permanent improvement. |
