Meanwhile, there were reports that there was an attempt to arrest Ribadu, on Tuesday, by security officials in Kuru, Jos.

The attempted arrest, purportedly for questioning, our correspondent gathered from a reliable source, was unsuccessful.

It is not clear why the former EFCC chairman was targeted for arrest but the source disclosed that Ribadu might have escaped after a tip-off that he was being trailed.

We are running around inviting and signing major contracts with China and others; I just hope that our leaders are smart enough not to sign away our revenues, power and future, all for the sake of developing our nation.
While Nigerian university graduates are walking around the country jobless or being slave drivers in other countries, it has also been confirmed that the Chinese and others plan to mostly use their own resources (human labor) to accomplish their contractual obligations in Nigeria. I hope this is incorrect, we must stay away from making mistakes that will eventually hunt us down for many years to come.

FYI: China and India have abundance of people or populations of extreme poverty (not that much different from our own population). These folks are desperate and willing to take extreme measures to survive with the backing of their countries.
If we are not careful, at some point, these same folks will not hesitate to makeup an excuse to grab what is rightfully not theirs. And we would only have ourselves to blame when this happens.

Please, keep in mind that I'm not trying to send a message of hate or to denounce the projects that are being implemented by the foreigners in Nigeria; all I'm saying is for our leaders to be prudent and ensure that we are not feeding a poisonous snake as a pet.

Furthermore, I also think that it's very important for African leaders (especially the ones that are blessed with natural resources) to quickly realize that as things continue to get difficult all across the world, many blood suckers are targeting Africa.
African continent is weak and being viewed as a large pie that is widely open to be grabbed. They are dreaming, plotting and scheming on how to cut it up. This is also one of the main reasons why political and social crises in Africa are intentionally being ignored. All it takes is another African zomby to sell us at a very cheap price!
We must wake up, become our brother's keeper and quickly discover the enormous priceless value of African continent.

Yes, it (African continent) isn't glamorous, but it is absolutely true that "You do not know what you have till is gone"

China seems to focus more on the future, while we (Africans) are viewing things only for today.
These people (the Chinese) will continue to dig deeper and deeper for the gold as long as they are allowed to do so; It is very important for all African leaders in general to be very careful not to keep a poisonous snake as pet.

as glo continues to invest millions of dollars in ghana and rep. of ben day after day, glo hasn't made kobo from this new investment. the future is their main target and i'm sure that nigerians are not paying any attention to glo's current systematical approach towards investing for the future.
in 5 years time, when glo starts clocking millions and millions in returns, i'm sure that nigerians as usual will start crying and wondering how mike adenuga becomes so successful overnight without knowing how many sleepless nights and millions of dollars this man has invested up front.
well, it is not our fault, none of us is used to putting together long term vision or long term investment. for nigerians, it is all about how much they can get tonight.
This is why mike adenuga represents a magnificent sample for business students and young entrepreneurs to emulate. You can never do wrong when you follow the path of the guru himself.

you can have this debate from now till the end of time. i can't convince you and you can never ever convince me. it's a useless debate in effect. i just put up that post to let you know that there is another side of the coin.

vote mccain, it's good for you. he may win. good for him. perhaps he deserves it, perhaps not. i don't care. obama is good. sure. don't berate him just b/c you want mccain to win. the boy is good.

as for hillary . . .

i hate the witch of new york . . . slip of click if obama picks her, this election is over. but then obama's death will be assured. so let her loose and let us rest. obama will rest after this election, win or loose he has made an impact in the world. that to me is great enough

Is that all you have to say? As usual, no substance from the Obama Camp, just empty rhetorics.

While I am not an ardent fan of McCain, my vote goes to him far ahead of Obama for the following reasons.

1. If America needs uniting, he stands a better chance of doing that ahead of Obama. he has shown over time that he puts country first ahead of his Party. That is why he has stood up to the president many times and reached across the party divide to get things done. Obama is very liberal and always toe his party line even when it is against the nation's interest.

2. John McCainis for offshore drilling, nuclear power and all renewable power resources. Obama is against drilling and nuclear power and told us yesterday we should keep our tire pressures intact and fine tune our cars to bring down the price of oil. That is not a policy.

3. John McCain is pro-life whereas Obama encourages abortion at will. He said if his children makes the mistake of getting pregnant out of wedlock, he wouldn't want them "punished with a baby." Those are his real words and I shudder at the implications. He regards babies as "punishment" and can easily destoy innocent lives due to some inconvenience. Now what does that stand say to young kids?

4. John McCain is toucgh on national security while Obama is not.

5. John mcCain thinks its important that America wins the Iraq war while Obama thinks its more important we get out fast.

6. John McCain has proven experience, loyalty and character, while Obama's has in reality about 5 months experience in the Senate, and his associations are suspect to say the least.

7. John McCain is for Capitalism while Obama is for socialism.

8. McCain wants to maintain a freedom of choice with health care while Obama wants to nationalise it.

9. Obama will raise my taxes while McCain will not and will rather eliminate pork spending in washington.

10. Obama, like the Democrats will continue and expand the welfare system that has kept the black community in the gutter for years, while McCain plans to look into every detail for its effectiveness.

11. Obama plays race politics, while McCain has been a gentleman.

12. Obama's choice of Justices is too liberal, mcCain's choice are conservative.

I can not wait to see how McCain is going to face Obama in the debates to come. WHEN HE TALKS, I FALL ASLEEP!!

The fundamental objective of my suggestion is so that we will have a framework to tackle corruption that will stand the test of time. It may not yield fruits immediately but it will put us on the right direction and provide an opportunity for everyone to move on.

My solution on this day the 29th of July 2008
(needs a very honest implementation by Mr President)

1. Grant Amnesty to any ex-public office holder (before 1st August 2008) currently facing corruption charges on the agreement that they will repratriate all of their funds back to Nigeria to invest in one sector of the economy. Either Electricity generation or sports.
If it is at anytime found that you have resources hidden abroad, you loose your amnesty and will face trial for both treason and corruption with a fine as much as 3/5 of your net worth.

2. Work closely with NASS to pass FOI bill and make it a requirement that all government programmes and project plans (at State and LGA level) are published with adequate monitoring plans, showing clear quaterly milestones so that members of the public can on their own inspect projects.

3. Reveiw the immunity clause, shield Governors and President from prosecution by members of the public but Governors will not be shielded from prosecutions by Government institutions like Police, EFCC, ICPC, State Prosecutors, Attorney General of Federation.

4. Make the office of AGF independent of Presidency.

5. Ensure that any public officer with glaring question of corruption is investigated and tried immediately by the appropriate agency.
