Guys am having trouble mounting my external hdd with my debian OS but my other system running Linux mint mounts it easily. How can I resolve this.
I've attached a Pic

As someone noted
sudo apt install exfat-fuse exfat-utils should have you fixed. Debian upstream does not shit with exfat (userspace) drivers because it is not free and MS might have a patent claim to it. Debian based Distro don't mind and shit with it so while you won't have the issue with debian mint or Ubuntu debian upstream follow a different best of rules.

Force mounting a with "mount" is not necessary in a modern Linux, udev handles that automatically.

Hello seniors. I'm a newbie to stock investment. I have one question that keeps bothering me, which is: if i buy a stock on chaka for example and after some days the stock increased and I decided to sell it, will i sell it to chaka or I have to look for someone who wants to buy?

When you sell or buy a unit or units of share(s) you are actually buying from or selling to someone else just like you. What the broker does is to find someone else ready to buy your shares for the price you are offering it. If your share is liquid enough ( that is has lots of people trading it) you will easily find buyer / seller for it. If on the other hand it is a small share with not many trading in it.. then it might take some time to execute a sale.. a sale is when you can match a willing seller to a willing buyer. The broker does the connection ( hence the name )

I believe the foreign stock brokerages also have overhead cost and employees. However, the whole gamestop vs robinhood saga has shown that zero-commission trading also has a a hidden cost as the brokerages have to make money somehow. Like the old saying goes, if you are not paying for it, you are the product. I still believe the Nigerian brokerages will get better with time.

You are right many broker that offer commission free trade make money else where. Some through spreads, through selling of the user data but most through what is called share lending where your shares is lent out by the broker for a profit. Nothing is free in that sense of the world.

If someone buys a US stock from any of this apps mentioned, how do you get to be sure that your name is on the company register?
A lot of this the companies offering US stocks in Nigeria (pretty much all of them) are in fact just proxies that ride of the infrastructure of a US company called drive wealth. Drive wealth is a broker as a service company that allow other companies out side the US use its trading infrastructure to offer US shares to their customers.

It is a 2 way relationship. The Nigerian company help Drivewealth KYC of their Nigerian US (required by us law) while drive wealth allow them access to the US stock market. Revolut in UK uses drivewealth under similar arrangement

What this means is that when you send your money to chaka, trove or bamboo invest you are in fact giving your money to drivewealth same thing happens when you buy US shares from them, the shares are actually bought directly from drive wealth.

Drivewealth is a registered LLC in the US and they are legit and well regulated under FINRA and SIPC as well as US SEC. They also have an insurance cover for your money for up to $250,000. This insurance means that if you put money in your Trove, Chaka, Bamboo wallet, you are in fact putting the money with drivewealth and should drive wealth or any of the Nigerian company go under, you would get your money with them back (The insurance doe not cover losses you made trading with your money)

No say Trove or Chaka or Bamboo go under, what happens to your shares? Well they are with drivewealth under your name so you should be fine. You can even reach out to drive wealth to request for a transfer of your shares from them to another broker (this can happen if you decide to japa from Nigeria and want your shares to be managed by another broker.

In long and short of this is that. Your money is safe with drivewealth and your shares are safe.

Caveat: I do not work for either drivewealth, chaka or trove, I have no business relationship with any of them.
I am not a financial adviser and this is no financial advise.

Sorry to disturb you. So Trove is the way forward?
I don't use trove but on paper they seem to have the cheapest trade commission of 1% compared to bamboo which is at 1.5% (for portfolio below 10k dollars) someone somewhere complained about their older charges but I can not varify. I use passfolio because of their 0 trade commission and because compared to the Nigerian based services like bamboo and trove.. They are actually a registered broker in the US and are member of FINRA SIPC. They also use drivewealth which means they have same stocks as to have and bamboo. Do your own investigation and figure out what works for you.

One more
Capital gain tax is exempted For non US residence aliens irrespective of where they live or reside (as long as it is not in the US) withholding tax on dividends is what varies from country to country depending on the tax treaty country of residence has with the US. The same thing for estate tax. Everything I have been talking about relates to non US residence alien. ie you are not a US citizen (or permanent residence) and you don't live in the US.

Read what you wrote, this is what I responded to.

Cgt is a taxable income dependent on the tax law's where you're domiciled, dividends are strictly taxed regardless.
Capital gains on stocks are not taxed under us tax laws irrespective of residency or location. Only dividends and the amount deducted is dependent on your country of residence and if they have a subsisting income tax treaty with the US. Otherwise withholding tax is a flat rate of 30% of dividends.

The estate tax applies to all non residents alien (unless again your country of residence as an estate tax treaty with the US) if not, you are subject to it and should you die while holding US stocks 40% of your assets in with a US broker would be confiscated. Including cash deposit with the broker.

Did you actually read what your posted.? Capital gains =! Dividends. Capital gains are not taxed. what is taxed are dividends from a US company and 30% of that is withheld by your broker. How is what you posted different from what I have been saying unless am missing something.

Isn't that based on where you're domiciled?, like you have to be resident in the us for this to apply.

As for the dividend tax , as far as I know , it's deductible before payment on all platforms, the capital gains tax is based on the tax laws applicable where you reside and not dependent on the broker.

I could be wrong!

This is tax applicable to "non residential alien" to the US. And yes it depends on your location but to the extent if your country of residence has an income and estate tax treaty with the US. On SA and I think Egypt has this in Africa. The tax is meant for non US citizens residing outside the US.

Having tried all of them ,t212 is the best for trading, limited ETFs and difficult to fund.

Passfolio is the best for funding , fees , but has teething issues (a lot), mostly ux and functions.

All in I've settled with t212 for fast trades and passfolio for long term.

One key advantage of passfolio for long term, less fees and you can withdraw in dollars even if you deposited in naira, which isn't an option on trove, bamboo and chaka.

Thnaks for the post I don't intend to trade my goal is long term investments in broad based etf using dollar cost averaging. My concern with Passfolio is the US dividend and estate tax. The former allows 30% of dividends accruing to your portfolio to be withheld if they are coming from US based companies or fund like US domiciled etf. The latter is even more draconian, if you have the audacity to die the US would confiscate 40% of your portfolio assets including cash with your broker. This is why I am considering Trade 212. I am still studying their tax laws for the US.

Have anyone here tried passfolio? There are a US based broker regulated by US SEC and member of FINRA, SIPC. They offer commission free trading and have some of the fastest Onboarding process (of all the trading apps) all they require is your BVN (I think they work with Flutterwave to resolve BVN) and that is all the KYC required. no passport or address verification nonsense.
The use drivewealth as their brokerage clearing house so they have all the ETFs and stocks available to bamboo and trove. Drivewealth is also member of FINRA and SIPC and are US SEC regulated.

They allow for bank transfer from a dom and you can transfer naira to them. They have integration with wema bank which they use for naira dollar transfer.

For now it is app only but their online wen trading platform is being worked on.

I only just discovered them but so far I have been impressed.

Please which is the best.. Trove or Chaka?

I dont even know why this is a question or why chaka is even popular on here. First of, chaka has a trade commission of 2% that means chaka would charge you 2 dollars from every 100 dollar of trade buying or selling. This is the highest in the business. Trove charges 1% and Bamboo Invest charges 1.5%.

Chaka has the worst customer service and they are not transparent about ownership of their shares or who their clearing house broker is. Their exchange rate is also the most ridiculous, when I tired them back in September, they were charging 475 for dollars when everyone was charging 465. Did I say how bad their support is? They could not answer most of the questions I asked mostly about stock ownership, do I own the stocks I buy through them or is chaka the custodian owner. I really tried using them but in the end I just felt this is not a serious company.

I am not surprised of their issues with SEC which has banned them from advertising or even selling stocks.

Impressive to see your compressor is still factory. Now to the koko of the matter.

Replace your fan (inspect the holder), it's about to fall apart.

Thanks gazzuzz you are spot on. Decided to inspect the fan and I noticed a screw lodged in one of the blades. I don't know how it got there, it wasn't there to wedge just seem totally random.. The screw was wedged to the edge of one of the fan blade and I had to remove it. After removing it I drove around for some time and idled but the noise did not come back. Even when the fan kicked into high rev (something that usuallytrigher the rattling) it was all quiet. I am still observing sha. Thanks for the pointer.

Remote diagnosis not available. Make a YouTube video with the bonnet open.

P.s I have a feeling you now have a manual compressor

Thanks a lot boss, Here is the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVMB-cfmOrI

Things I noticed when I popped the hood that I had not noticed before
The Rattling noise comes up when the car is at a stop after a long (say 30 minute drive) It seems to be coming from the Radiator and triggered when the radiator fan goes into High RPM. It comes and goes and stops when the Radiator fan is in low RPM.

When the Radiator fan is on high rpm the frontal side of the car vibrates against the body and it cause the rattling noise.. at least from what I have observed.

Hi guys. My 2014 toyota corolla makes some rattling noise after I have driven the car for some time and I am in traffic. The noise is particularly much when the AC is on and goes off when I turn off the AC (for some time) but the rattling noise comes up even when AC is off. It seems to only happen when the car has been driven for about an 1 or 2 and usually when in traffic or when the car is idling.

It doesn't show any other symptoms, drives well accelerates well, gear selection is fine and no issues with over heating. The noise can be loud and annoying though.
It usually goes away once I start driving and or after a couple of minutes it kinda goes and comes.

The way nioost handle deliveries is just a game of chance. It doesn't follow logic of when the item arrived. The back log at the airport is so huge that they pretty much pick them in totally random batches so if u are lucky your package is among the bag picked. There are still under staffed and work less the number of hours.

Some of us will need to wait close to 6 months.

it is yanwen, ordered on 30th June and arrived Nigeria on 18th July, it was fast but the delay from NIPOST is the reason why it took more than 40 days.
This is so true, I went to NIPOST main office at Ikeja and and also spoke to a contact I have there. The staff are over whelmed and covid situation has not helped matters. They are running on shift and as a result operating at 50% capacity (or less) this means lots of packages are waiting at the airport to be retrieved and distributed.. this can take forever and it also causes irregularities. I was shipped 3 different packages as part of multiple items I got from the same seller. They were all shipped the same day in the same batch and likely came in the same plane to Nigeria. I have only received 2 of 3 and I also received items I got after them.

I still consider myself lucky because I am in lagos and stay in ikeja so my last mile is not long. If you stay in other part of the country then your delay is multiplied.

Hello house,

So I decided to do a minor upgrade to my setup.

My previous setup was 2* 250 watts solar panels (poly)
1 tubular battery 220 amps
1 kva (12v) inverter
30/40 amps MPPT CC

I have note upgraded to:

Added 2 *300 watts solar panels (mono)
Changed my battery to 2* 200 amps deep cycle
Changed my inverter to 2.5kva 24 volts
My CC remains unchanged.

All the solar panels are connected in parallel (24 volts each.

Now the mystery.

Since I upgraded last week, my harvest has gone down so considerably.

Under my previous setup, I was harvesting btw 80-90 amps daily but since I've upgraded, the max I've harvested is 25 amps(really?) and the sun has been shining.

I'm really so confused. I hv called the installer and he promised to come check by weekend but before he comes, I want to know exactly what the problem could be cos he himself sounded confused.

I hv been looking at my MPPT CC. I changed the battery settings from flooded to solid(dunno if this is correct) to see if there will be changes. I'll check when I get home In the evening.

Pls help

was going to chime in then I saw my oga as responded.

Hey guys, anyone knows if gtbank still processes naira master card for transactions? I ask because the last time I tried to buy something via PayPal I was told they have stopped PayPal transactions. Has this been extended to all online transactions?

If gt still processes transactions at what rate? If anyone made transactions in the last couple of days how much did gtb charge on a dollar. Thanks
Spoke to 3 GTBank connect agent and they all confirm to me that they have indeed disabled international payments for naira cards. It is so unfortunate because they could have informed people about this since their website carry wrong information.
