It is a waste of time and effort. On the other hand, you gave away sensitive information (item,ETA and underdeclaration) on an open forum and nobody even asked for it.

Who will the idle mind target first?

A sensitive information is something unique to a person or thing. I ordered a One plus 7t is not a sensitive information, saying I under declare would only be sensitive if that be used to track an item based on price.. and putting a verge estimated ETA which came from the top of my head would amount to nothing if u don't know my name, nor number or location.. In any case all this can not be compared to a tracking number.. anyway sha. to whom its own. Like I said advise came from a good place. Whatever let you sleep well at night. Now lets not derail the thread.

My brother no be fight. With due respect, I am not a mumu rather I am a IT security professional. Things like tracking numbers are very sensitive and can be used by anyone to hijack your item. It is not even hard.. considering most people post so much information about themselves that it is not hard to piece things together about them and form a profile. You live in warri, and your name can be revealed from your phone number using true caller. If I track your online footprint I will get your location and it is easy to triangulate the nearest post office to it. You picture is in your profile, easy to make an ID from it. Phone number is in display.. easy to clone it and intercept all your calls and sms.

It won't take me long to even know what u are shipping if it is something of value and I am a bad actor (and it is worth my time and effort) I can easily hijack your identity and go claim the item. of cause you can always choose to ignore this advise that came from a good place smiley.. just know I come in peace.

See where it is

Thanks alot for that.. Quick question though. The DHL tracking number you were given, was it all 10 digit numbers or was it a mix of numbers and letters. Also how long did it take before it starting showing up in DHL tracking system. From what I am been told, items shipped by DHL are usually sent to Hong Kong from mainline china. From there it is picked up my DHL before shipment to Nigeria. It seem the bottle neck is the DHL pick up.

I also to add, my tracking number was all numbers, 10 digit numbers, I am a bit worried (even though the seller has been super responsive and even showed me the picture of "my package" with my address and waybill number just before it was shipped and he has great reviews.. still one can not be too sure. I was given a fake tracking number before so I don't want to fall victim again

mehnnn! I'm really fed up right now. Is it possible for my order to be shipped since 7th May, yet, not picked up by DHL? It's been at 'recieved item at facility and measured since 8th May undecided

I am in the same boat as this.. THe first Item I ordered did not ship for 11 days.. The seller was slow at communicating so I opened a dispute and was awarded a refund. The seller stated the following

"i am sorry to hear that. dear friend,
i have agree refund to you, anyway, thank you.
maybe it is better for you and me, because, recently all shipping is busy, DHL to your country also need about 25 days.
so maybe you get your money back, and order it after some days is better when the shipping way restore."

and when I gave a bad rating. He replied with

"i am sorry about this order, dear all. we shipped parcel to HK DHL in time, after about 5 days, our cargo said flight stopped service to buyer's country. as we know, now the COVID-19 still not end, many flights not recovery, so it is unnormal. then we have to tell buyer this truth and refund. thank you for your trust. dear!! have a nice day. best regards! "

How true can this be? I ask because I have ordered another device which was shipped (via DHL) on the 16th of May. The seller confirm that the item would be first shipped to hung Kong before being dispatched to Nigeria.

Seeing your post makes me feel I might have to sit tight and probably wait till July for an ETA.
Anyone knows how the whole DHL logistic work?

As anyone received a device Ali using DHL during this period. Also how much does custom charge as percentage of the device.

Yeah, that makes sense too. LFP of that make is still expensive. Most DIYers are mostly rocking the cheaper options.

Which is true but still very very expensive, an expensive experiment which often time ends up in failure.. You know why? Lithium is very very complicated and has many component all of which have to work just right. Lithium has very little margin of error in setup.. You have to get the right cell from the right cell maker, you have to ensure the cells are well balanced, you have to get the right BMS, right charger sometimes the right inverter.. One mistake and poof all goes up in smoke.. and they often do more often than not you just don't hear that part in the songs

Many on here have dipped their hands in lithium and gotten burned badly and suffer their loses in silence.. You will hear them throwing specs like 3000 cycles at 80% dod lol.. what u don't here is the case where the bank (if you are lucky) just stop working after like a year.. They just stop..

Lithium is the future no doubt.. Just waiting for the dust to settle.. maybe when reputable chinese solar maker like episolar start doing lithium then you can take a cue that it is time to give it a look. for now I will advise wait for the second iteration before you look that way

Oh I see. If LFP it can take all.
Yeah, so can AGM.. I am still 4 years away from getting LFP. I am still not sold on it yet. The tech is still too bleeding edge and expensive for now.. a 140AH pylon setup would cost close to 1.4m (at N360/$) If I spend N500k on 4 Quanta batteries I would get 400A which would serve me for 4 years of diligent use.. I can then turn the 900k to dollars and put it in a eurobond account for the life time of the Quanta (4 years) by 2024.. my dollar investment would of grown.. Lithium batteries would have gotten better and cheaper and I might still be able to buy the cheaper more efficient and more capacity lithium from the eurobond investment. Economics of Lithium doesn't work for me .. yet.

Out of curiosity what battery chemistry are you using that can take 90A? LFP?

Good old, stone age tech called Flooded Acid Exide Tubular to be exact. The 90A is what the controller can push out at peak not what goes into battery. The battery usually take 60A max thanks to a carefully designed system of opportunity loads and a shallow discharge that prevents a prolong charging process. system is 24v battery capacity is 400AH

Cheap Cc can't do that.... Thank God everything went well...
For most DIY on this forum like myself, we use low Mppt CC which can't function like the victron CC..
Money Good oh grin

Even expensive ones .. don't want to name names (but it rhymes with Morningstar) many of the expensive tier 1 controllers would blow up when you disconnect the battery while actively connected to the solar panel. The key is how victron cc where designed. They were initially designed to have their internal circuitry charged by solar if solar is active and battery if solar is not available. This makes it to easily survive a battery disconnect.. I always Yimmu at @Niyi when he goes on and on about morningstar.. I can say right now that Victron Energy make the best controller in the market .. in terms of performance, ruggedness and integration with IT.

You can turn off some SCC from battery at blazing sun with no issues. Though the same can't be said of some system. I'll say if your SCC doesn't have that feature, jejely don't try to add a breaker between battery and SCC.

something like this happened to me recently. The breaker between my cc and battery tripped up - thus saving my house from burning down - It turns out the I undersized the cable from cc to battery. I use 25mm (a distance of about 1 meter) with current up to 90A @24v passing through the wire.. this was then compounded by what I suspect to be partial contact with the DC breaker.. wire got so hot, breaker did it's job and tripped.. All this happened in peak afternoon with a solar panels array sending about 2800w of power to the cc..

This were my respect for Victron went to a whole new level.. My victron charge controller stood there.. without a battery to send all that energy too, it just switched to the higher curve of the MPPT and switched to float..In fact it took a long time to realise what was happening because controller continued working like nothing happened.. I had to turn off the breaker from the pv to cc and then changed removed the bad wire, upgraded it to 35mm and turned the system back on.. Victron charge controller resumed charging.. The trip from the battery gave no problem at all.

While on solar, the current passing through the cables may not be zero especially if there are house loads running. Even without loads, whether running Mains passthrough or on solar, a good charger will still put out some very low amps (trickle charge) while the battery is full and in float - this kind of charge helps offset the internal self discharge of the battery.

A sure way to know if your battery is full is coulomb counting such as you do with a battery monitor like Victron or Fangpusun or Bogart - you basically measure the net amps in and/or out and then declare the battery full when sufficient amps have gone into the battery to replace what was used (various parameters need to be met to satisfy the battery full criteria)

A quick and dirty way is to use the battery voltage while charging as an indicator of state of charge - if your battery hits absorb and stays there for a preset time, you can declare the battery full for all practical purposes especially if you see the current drop sharply to a level called 'tail current'.

This is so true... for controllers that support it the setting the tail current is very crucial in determining and efficiently charging a lead acid battery. In my case I set my tail current to be 4MB which is 1% of my 400AH 24v battery bank. It is suppose to charge at level for 30 min at 29.2v at which point it switches to float charge.

In all sincerity, you have the most inefficient system on this Forum. I am not sure why the other enthusiast choose to ignore but renewable energy is not a race or a competition of the largest solar array and largest battery bank. It is more a function of getting steady power at a reasonable and comparative price as opposed to relying on the national grid.

Even at 3X solar capacity production, you would be generating 60,000 watts daily. I struggle to understand why anyone would go through that much energy in a day for a regular house and claim to be a renewable energy enthusiast. It isn't a function of deep pockets, it is more a stupid approach.

Simply swapping out a few energy guzzling appliances and using timers and energy saving lighting will reduce your consumption by half. I struggle to understand how spending 10 million on Solar which needs to be swapped out in 10 years makes sense. At that price point, you are paying 80-100K per month effectively. What then would it cost to simply be on generators.

Again, if you have as much wisdom as you display on this forum, you do not need 19,000 watts of installed panels. Not sure what point you are trying to prove but need I remind you that you are not a factory and do not live in a palace.

Good luck with your endeavors, I mean no harm.

I don't even know where to start with this post. You go on a rant about the legal decision made by an adult, a decision that has no effect or baring on your life, a decision that hurt no one.. Then you proceed to make assumptions without even have any fact on the ground. How do you know his system was inefficient, did you know or even ask him what he is optimising for? Do you know the background story? Do you have any idea what has been done on the load side of things. Do you know what appliance he uses in his house? All you know is that he built a system and you then go on a rant complaining the size is too big.. On what matrix did you come to that conclusion . It is ironic you talk of "Black man" mentality, when you travel to civilized climes people mind their business. You don't wake up and be calling the decisions and actions of another man stupid when you don't even know his motivation .

It would have helped and we would all have benefited if you had asked why he needed so much power, maybe he wanted a system that can go without the grid and can survive the heart of the raining season going for days without sunlight without compromising on comfort. Do you even know the size of his house? All you did was project your insecurities to the world. You just masked envy in the cloak of advise. I think you need some deep thinking, such attitude won't take you far in life.

@Bigrovar looking at your flooded batteries, they seem to be on the bare tiled floor.
Please try to get em on some kinda hard plastic or wooden base. From my little practical experience I've found out that batteries on the bare floor get really cold at the base. This affects it's chemistry negatively.
That is actually the idea.. Batteries hate heat and Nigeria is generally a hot and tropical region so ambient temperature tend to be very high. Heat is the enemy of battery and putting it on the floor was suppose to help with some form of heat transfer. Well that was the idea.. but turns such theory might not translate where in practical sense since the heat transfer would be minimal and advantages of putting it on the floor kind of minimal. I would be putting it on wood for the practical purpose of cleaning... not a priority now though.

Hi guys. I just carried out the first major upgrade of my offgrid solar setup after decommissioning the previous install back in December. The new upgrade was long in planning and the idea was to incorporate things I learned from the first install. Unlike the previous install where I had control over many aspect of the system including roof location and battery install location. This new one I had to make do with what is available, The only roof space available for me was the north side of a building adjoining to mine since my roof could not support the installation of 9 335w solar panel in series.

Basic System Specification Include:

9 x 335w Yingli Poly Solar Panels = 3015w
Axpert MKS 3KVA / 2.4Kw Inverter (iPowerplus label)
Victron Smart MPPT 100A / 150v Solar Charge Controller
4 x Exide TI1750 200AH Flooded Battery

Accessory Include:
Victron Battery Monitor BMV 700
Victron Battery Voltage and Temperature Sensor
Raspberry Pi 3B (For remote Monitoring Dashboard)

Panel Configuration
The panels were installed in a 3 3 3 setup, 3 panels in series and the output of each series connection are then paralleled into a home made combiner box. Each positive side of the 3 series array were each terminated to a DC breakers installed in a breaker box to allow for array separation and then from breaker box to home made combiner box.

Inverter and CC configuration

I installed a positive and Negative busbar. All Positive wire from the inverter and cc terminated to a positive bus bar each running through a 125A DC circuit breaker. The Negative from the inverter also terminates to the battery bus bar via the current shunt for the victron battery monitor.

Battery Setup:
The batteries are connected in series parallel. 2 pairs of batteries in series and their output combined together in parallel. The parallel setup was configured so that each battery had a + and - wiring of equal length terminated to the same positive and negative busbar where the inverter was installed

Cabling:
For cabling, I used 6mm for the PV to the combiner box
From the combiner box to the cc is a 10mm cable (distance is less than 2 meters)
cc and inverter to battery bus bar is a 25mm cable
bus bar to the batteries is a 35mm cable
1 foot 50mm cable was used for the series connection

I installed a Victron Battery sensor for voltage and battery temperature sensor. It is installed on one of the batteries in the bank and connected to the battery terminal point to give out the battery voltage at terminal to the charge controller and also sends the battery temperature for temperature compensated charging.

Monitoring
A rasbberry Pi 3 is installed. It uses the Victron VE direct to usb cable to quarry information from the charge controller and the battery monitor bmv 700, it also uses the USB B to USB A cable supplied with the Axpert MKS 3KVA inverter to query it for data. The Pi is connected to my home wireless network and sends all the data gathered (via the MQQT protocol) to my custom emoncms install on a virtual private server someone in the cloud. The result is the dashboard which displays in real time the system performance http://energy.bobby.com.ng/dashboard/view?id=14
(The energy log is abit off, I generated 9kwh yesterday but it is reading 18kwh so it needs a little tweaking).

In all the system is a mid sized setup to power a moderate load of about 450w (day time load) and 250w - 90w load at night. From the battery monitoring usually pull about 90AH - 100AH from the battery bank at night which is about 25-30% dod. Fridge and freezer go off by 6pm and comes on by 9am
