In terms of tertiary training in nigeria the medical profession has managed to maintain standard over the years . that is why when nigerian doctors meridal licence exam of UK USA Canada or Australia we usually blast it and even do better that their doctor hence making possible the mass exodus of doctors from the country . Many graduate in other fields are not even employable here in nigeria not to talk of competing with their counterparts overseas because there is a wide margin in the quality of training . whether you like it or not we are no the same. It's just the bitter truth.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic but I think no amount of explanation will make an outsider understand the difficulties we pass through to become engineers, architects et al.

I spend roughly only three hours or thereabout sleeping daily. It's an equally tough task to read books, make designs, models and simulations, make tedious calculations to achieve our aims and equally have to be updated with current global technologies. Only if you intend to say it's easier being an engineering graduate and not an ENGINEER.

As for doctors flying out for the money, it's happening in every profession. There's a reason trained engineers are flying over to Northern Europe to get better goodies!

As an engineer you can be less average (on paper) you will still get employment . In the medical profession there is no less than average doctor no medical schools will graduate you. U will get kicked out before you graduate . My class in med school 250 of us came in. Final year we are just 75

You don't understand the angle am coming from, the truth is that most developed countries uses engineer technology to solve medical problems with little or no stress. Nigeria doctors are far behind most of them can't even work in advance hospitals with recent technology. Have you heard of BIOENGINEERING and HUMANENGINEERING

Imagine u are in need of surgery which doctor would u prefer the one being paid 130k or the one being paid 15k

No amount of explanation can make an outsider undersatnd the rigours we face to become doctors only when u expirience it. Bsc course get long holidays sometime 2_3 months after every semester,the total official holiday u will get from year1till you graduate alltogether is about 3 month. As an undergraduate u write exams like every month. And this exam for every question you fail u loose a mark and the lowest u can get is 50%anything less is failure. Once you fail 3 times in professional exams you will be sent away from medical school. Sometimes they wake you in the middle of the night to come and observe surgery. If CGPA was being used in medical school then the lowest a doctor can graduate with will be a 3.0 because pass in all course is 50 marks. So a doctor collecting 130k is even underpaid. A country of over 170 million has only 35,000 doctors . Every graduating set in medical school more than 50% will migrate abroad where they are appreciated.

When a woman is registered for antenatal the doctors will know the how are previous pregnancies went,the size of the previous and index baby,wether she is hypertensive or diabetic, wether she has clotting dioder the location of her placenta etc..... These are things that can cause problem when u just show up suddenly in labour

I stand to be corrected but there is a good chance she wasn't registered for antenatal at that hospital or she dint register at all

Its sad when I hear things like these.Most of the pregnancy related death are usually preventable
Pregnancy is physiologic and shouldn't lead to death . There should inquiry and which ever doctor is on duty must be made to answer. And women pls register for antenatal at an hospital that has 24 hours service and a theater and attend regularly. Avoid traditionally birth attendant and quacks they won't know what to do when thing go wrong . many of the things that could go wrong with pregnancy can be anticipated with good antenatal care.
