upengineer:
How do you cope when the sea is rough I mean those days when ocean waves will not be friendly at all
Now, the kind of facility you find yourself will tell how bad you feel the effect of the ocean tides. Most FPSOs (if not all) are anchored (fixed) to the sea bed with chains. Because of this restriction, they feel the ocean tides to an extent. But most modern offshore drilling rigs are DPs (dynamically positioned) and are usually heave (tide) compensated. This flexibility (unlike the anchored/fixed FPSOs) reduces the tidal effect. The supply vessels are the worst, not anchored, not dynamically positioned (although few modern ones are DP); hence any where water move, dem go move too.. That's why a lot of people develop sea sickness on these supply vessels..

ojmaroni247: Plz u guyz should help us dat seek to work offshore,my only issue is swimming test, but heard its nt always neccessary sum companies jst give u a swim pass even if u don't knw hw to swim, moreover de truth is if u get into dat water its only baba God dat can save u,cuz dey say u cnt even swim de water,..life jackets nd safety equipments r provided. Courses like BOSIET,HEUT etc r a big hindrance for us dat can't afford it,tho I hear companies usually foot de bills for the training.
Am a graduate of mechanical engineering nd hav a certificate in electro-mechanical which covers de basics of HVAC,piping system, pumps, compressors, actuators, valves, diesel engine maintenance,H.S.E ...nd so on. I reside in PH,would appreciate if any vacancies in any offshore coy is sent to my email. Big_johniwu@yahoo.ca. Urgently in need of an offshore job, thnkz.
Usually, your would company pays for your BOSIET and HUET. It is mandatory and believe me DPR officials are seriously ensuring that u have these before going offshore. These training are not to teach you to swim during a mishap, but rather they will only teach you how to survive in water until search-and-rescue team arrives.. You can't swim across the ocean, don't even try.. The first survival lesson is "Conserve your energy to enable you stay alive for a longer time"

upengineer: well,
I work on a FPSO in Gulf of Guinea. I am in operations. Ironically, I got the job through an advert I responded to here on Nairaland. Its been three years now flying "chopper" and I have never had any regret whatsoever. The environment is challenging and interesting. Sights of sharks and Dolphins is normal then migratory birds also visit once its their time to migrate. Weather is a low side of offshore particularly when you have dressed up ready to go home after staying away from home for 14days only to be told chopper wont come because of bad weather and you will have to put on your coverall again back to work. Its fun and interesting. Food is also another negative side. You have to wakeup and eat as early as 6:30am. If you are not use to eating early then there will be a problem. In all, no regret working offshore!
You sound like have been on ABO FPSO.. Anyway, you forgot to add that there are emergency drills performed on a routine basis (fire, toxic gases, Pirates, man-over board, etc). Also, people (especially first times) tend to develop sea sickness (nausea and vomiting).unfortunately for me, my shift made me miss, Xmas, new year, Easter, anniversaries last year.. But in all, when u see your pay slip, you somehow forget the pains...lol.,. Am a subsea engineer

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Wearing Panty Hose To A Job Interview. by bigtalla(m): 6:50pm On Oct 24, 2013
Personally, i find it that pant hose fits light-skinned ladies more than the darker ones (no offense meant).. So, if u are light-skinned, with a full fleshed straight legs, by all means wear a nice hose that blends with ur complexion for any interview...

@OP, what should the very dark ladies do about selecting a color that blends their complexion?

Romance / Re: Sex On The First Date by bigtalla(m): 9:48am On Oct 20, 2013
Sex on a first date is becoming a norm.. Many ladies have had sex on the first date at some point in time, but never reveal it, even to their best friends, so as not to feel cheap.. I believe this is becos of the online dating spree going on.. A guy and a girl meet online, share intimate and nude pix, do sexting(sex chat), decide to meet face-to-face. The girl travels from Lagos to Abuja or vice-versa. There is every probability that they'll have sex on the first date.. Believe me, in as much as many ladies decide to live in self-denial, its becoming a norm in Nigeria...

I sometimes see public display of affection as a cover-up for a fake/struggling r/ship.. I have a friend who kisses his gf publicly becos she wants him to and not becos he likes it. He says he only complies whenever they have had an argument/quarrel, especially when he was the one at fault. Its like a penace.. It's not normal in Nigeria, but I believe we are getting there ...

Phones / Re: 2go Or Whatsapp: Which Do You Prefer? by bigtalla(m): 7:21am On Oct 16, 2013
Both apps are cool.. To say 2go is for kids is not totally correct. There are kids everywhere, it just happens that Whatsapp only connects you to people who are on your phonebook list. Consequently, if you have kids on your phonebook, your Whatsapp friends will definitely be kids, on the other hand, if you have adults on your phonebook, logically you will also have adults on your Whatsapp list. 2go has been upgraded, you receive your messages real time like whatsapp (whether u r online or not), also you may chat with adults or kids if you wish. I also believe there is an option on 2go where u can decline or accept an invitation from "kids"..
As for me, prefer Whatsapp cos it enables me share files, quickly.. Fatster than BBM and 2go can ever imagine

If you believe paying your tithe will open the windows of blessings for you, please pay your tithe.. If on the other hand you think pastors are swindling followers by this means, kindly keep your money.. It is YOUR money, and you have 100% right to decide how u want to spend it.. As for me, I am convinced that it is right to pay tithe.. Since it is MY money, I choose to pay my tithe.......If you care to know, it works for me...
