Politics › Re: Absence Of Kalu From Court Stalls Hearing In Alleged N7.65bn Fraud by bigtt76(f): 9:15pm On Nov 05, 2018 |
Baba has joined the 'sick' politicians crew awaiting trial. They are always healthy and jumping upandan until it's about time for their case to be heard, they start forming sicko #useless pipo nwakibie3: Hearing in the trial of a former Governor of Abia, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, for alleged N7.65billion fraud was stalled on Monday due to the absence of the ex-governor from court.
Kalu’s lawyer, Prof. Awa Kalu (SAN), told Justice Mohammed Idris at the Federal High Court in Lagos that his client was away in Germany for surgery.
He added that the ex-governor had been advised by his doctors to remain in Germany for some time to recuperate.
The defence counsel said the prosecuting counsel for Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Mr Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), was aware of the development and urged Justice Idris to further adjourn the case.
But the EFCC prosecutor, Jacobs, said he was surprised at Kalu’s absence from court, adding that he did not know when the ex-governor obtained the court’s permission to travel out.
Jacobs noted that having submitted his passport to the court as part of his bail conditions, Kalu must always apply to the court for the passport whenever he wished to travel.
Describing the ex-governor’s absence from court as an attempt to frustrate the case, Jacobs urged Justice Idris to interpret Kalu’s absence to mean that he had jumped bail.
“I am not aware when the 1st defendant wanted to travel. We only got to know that the 1st defendant travelled abroad for medical treatment through his media aide, one Kunle Oyewunmi.
“Things must be done in accordance with the law. In my own view, what happened is that the 1st defendant has jumped bail. This is an attempt to further frustrate this trial because no application was made to the court to travel.
“I urge Your Lordship to treat the absence of the 1st defendant as that he has jumped bail,” Jacobs said.
Responding, however, the defence counsel urged Justice Idris to discountenance Jacob’s argument, saying as at when Kalu travelled out, the court had adjourned the case sine die (indefinitely).
Ruling on the lawyers’ submissions, Justice Idris noted that it was true that the matter was adjourned sine die on Sept.27, but Kalu was on Nov. 2 served with a hearing notice that the case had been scheduled for Monday.
The judge also noted that the court received a mail confirming Kalu’s treatment arrangement, but he said the defence counsel failed to attach any medical report to guide the court as to Kalu’s post-surgery treatment.
Justice Idris said in the circumstance, he would, in the interest of justice, adjourn the case for the last time, stressing that Kalu must return from Germany within seven days and appear before the court.
The judge ruled, “I have always stated that every citizen of this country is entitled to and has the right to seek medical treatment abroad.
“This right is guaranteed by the constitution, the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights, the International Covenant of Civil and Political Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is an inalienable right.
“However, this right has exceptions; therefore, in exercising this right, due regard must be had for the law and due process.
“Apart from the mail confirming the treatment arrangement of the 1st defendant, the defence counsel should have obtained a medical report on the condition of the 1st defendant post-surgery.
“This would have properly guided the court in the proceedings of today.
“However, in the light of the entirety of this case and in the interest of justice, I am prepared to grant to the 1st defendant a final adjournment in respect of this matter.
“In the light of the provisions of the ACJA, I shall not adjourn for more than seven days from today. It is, therefore, hereby directed that the 1st defendant shall return to the country within seven days from today’s date for the hearing of this matter.” he said. The court adjourned the case untill Nov. 12 for continuation of trial.

Politics › Re: FG Incurred N16bn Transaction Costs On TSA –AGF by bigtt76(f): 3:09pm On Nov 05, 2018 |
Yes so government should deal with it or let CBN buy the platform outright and offer the service to the public for free. The government engaged payment gateways to process transaction payments on their behalf, would they now start charging the people and or the payment gateway to deposit the monies to the government account? Haba! The solution here is for CBN to build a standard web service/API through which these payment gateways would settle the collected funds to the CBN's TSA account without incurring excess charge. Remita platform is just that Web service/API to the CBN's core banking application (paid for using the tax payers money by CBN) and not that it was built by Remita. That web service/API should be available to certified payment gateways to integrate to at their own cost ....simple as that careidon: @bigtt76 yes the payers already do pay the transaction charges...and it makes no sense increasing it.
but Remita has a % charge agreement on funds collected with the government on another side - that's what they ought to reduce or sort out BY DEVELOPING THEIR OWN SOFTWARE OR CODES & stop using 3rd parties. That way, they only pay a one-time fee for the developers and own the infrastructure themselves thru CBN of Min. of Finance or whatever agency they chose. poor management again!!! |

Politics › Re: FG Incurred N16bn Transaction Costs On TSA –AGF by bigtt76(f): 11:38am On Nov 05, 2018 |
Makes no sense. The payers already bear transaction charges on the services they're paying for, why make them bear additional cost just to deliver the funds to the TSA? Make access to the TSA a common pass-through to other service providers so they don't have to rely solely on Remita for the last mile delivery to the TSA nwakibie3: Ifeanyi Onuba, Abuja
The Federal Government has within the last two years incurred a total amount of N16bn as transaction costs on the Treasury Single Account.
The Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, disclosed this on Sunday in Abuja. A statement issued by the Director, Press, Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr Johnson Oise, revealed that the Federal Government had been bearing the cost of transmission of funds into the TSA and would not want to do so anymore.
The statement said, henceforth, the Federal Government would no longer bear the service charge on all payments to its Ministries, Departments and Agencies as such costs would be borne by the payer.
It said, “Within the last two years, the government spent almost N16bn in this direction which ordinarily should be borne by those making payments.
“So, it is time for Nigerians to pay for the services that they receive and the government will take whatever is due to it without necessarily incurring cost.
“In the old tariff regime, the Federal Government bore the charges on all transactions to the service providers on behalf of payers.’’
Idris said a lot of sensitisation had been done to give enough room to understand the new tariff regime and for compliance, adding that the charges were minimal and negotiable.
“By negotiable, I mean by the introduction of more players in the market, definitely the charges will come down from whatever they are now, but right now discussions are going on to make the charges as minimal as possible.
“We are liberalising the market and it has to be a level playing field for all operators to operate and that is what will happen,” he added.
The AGF said that the Central Bank of Nigeria, as the regulator which stipulates the rates of the charges, would always intervene if any service provider charged beyond the approved rate.
The TSA initiative, which took off fully in September 2015, had led to the closure of 20,000 bank accounts while over N8tn had been moved from banks to the CBN.
A total of 1,674 MDAs have been enrolled on the TSA platform.
The Accountant General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, had said that the TSA policy had assisted the government to address a lot of impediments affecting the efficiency of public finance.
The AGF said that the government was currently enjoying a lot of benefits from the implementation of the TSA policy.
For instance, he stated that through the policy, the government had been able to block leakages and abuses which had characterised the public sector before its commencement in September 2015.
Apart from blocking leakages, Idris said the TSA initiative had assisted the government to overcome the burden of indiscriminate borrowings by MDAs, thus saving the government a lot of bank charges associated with such borrowing.

Sad how able bodied men and women resort to begging instead of working. They've made a lot of peoe feel guilty of not giving. Coming from church you see guys begging for transport back go home and I'm like why stand at the road why not beg your church members for fares? Then you see the ones at ATMs, Supermarkets and even inside Shoprite or Game That was how one girl accosted me at an ATM as early as 7am saying she need 5k to compete her school of nursing fees. Told her I didn't have and next thing jumped into a waiting car with either her boyfriend or husband |

Actually the man is right, siting in between two ladies may result in sexual stimulation and if he mistakenly places his hands on either, he could be accused of sexual harassment. I expected the ladies not to have allowed that. Would the same lady feel free to seat in between two men? Some people are taking this feminist thing too far and without proper reasoning |
