You are very right. Not until the actual court convict an alleged criminal, he is not guilty. Court of public opinion does not count.

Of course that is how the legal profession run. You capitalize on technical loopholes to prosecute your case even if you know your client is guilty. You can't just tell the court that your client is guilty.

Did the chairman just say Saraki is a lay man? Can a senior lawmaker be a lay man? Could Saraki be a lay man in law?
