seunmsg: the committee is also saddled with reviewing and making preliminary assessment of the balance sheet of government with particular emphasis on the status of assets and liabilities of government; cash flow position of the government; quantum of public domestic and external debt of government and their deployment; government’s out-standing contractual obligations and its ability to meet such obligations and the status of implementation of capital projects.
Looking at this extracted part of the committee's term of reference, it's very obvious why the Jonathan Administration is not comfortable with the terms of reference. They are scared all of a sudden that the committee is about to find out the true financial position of the federal government. And again, the committees findings will prevent any last minute perfection of documents or cover up. It's really game over for the GEJ government. Yu PD.Pigs think GMB is clueless, slowpoke,a drunk cowboy who will sign a handover note with proper verification? |

deletrue: For those of you who thinks what is happening is a child play should watch it. Whatever apc is looking for willl be provided by someone else for this government and not GEJ. Whether you described it visitors, whether you call it, whatever name or description, Buhari can still tell those visitors to wait a little. There are ways things are done. No body will benefits if GEJ had refuse to go. At the end, many things will go wrong. Many people will die. Why has Buhari allowed and take all these actions, while there is an existing president? Buhari is about to be swon in within four weeks. Those visits can only be approved after series of exchange of letters, phone calls etc. Why can't Buhari ask those people to wait. What is this rush for. Am sure whatever, this Buhari is looking for will be giving to him but not by GEJ. Some one else or something will answer him. Everything that has to do that relates to official functions should wait. He has won. He has four years he may not even complete because of his dead body system. Again, why this rush? If he said make ambassadors, oyinbo, sycopants like artur eze no visit am again una go say he be arrogant, dictator, ingrate, unfrdly just as he told AIT make dem no harrass him family again, bringing back painful memory of d death.wetin una want make him do,by d way who giv min.of nat.planning d authority 2 speak 4 GEJ? |

Politics › Re: PDP Releases Press Statement On AIT Ban, Says It's Dangerous For Democracy by billyG(m): 4:35pm On Apr 28, 2015 |
Islie: Press statement from the PDP on AIT ban, which the APC has since lifted.. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as unacceptable the Monday’s directive by the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to bar a television house, the AIT, from covering his activities, saying the suppression of the media under any guise portends danger for the nation’s democracy. PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Tuesday said that after carefully studying the defence posited by General Buhari’s campaign spokesperson as well as the smokescreen statement by the APC to cover and mitigate his anti-media posture, the PDP and indeed all lovers of democracy are persuaded that the action was not only unjustifiable, but also unconstitutional and completely against the spirit of liberty and the rule of law in a democracy.
He said “the PDP as a party that have nurtured the nation’s democracy in the past 16 years cannot afford to fold its hands and watch the constitutional rights, media freedom and personal liberty of Nigerians, the basic tenets of democracy being demolished.
“We ask, is this a beginning of the feared erosion of the freedom and personal liberty the media and Nigerian citizens have been enjoying in the last 16 years under the PDP led-administration? Has our dear nation finally fallen into the clutches of totalitarianism and impunity where government actions will based on egocentric decisions and impulses of individuals rather than the rule of law?
“While we assure the President-elect of our resolve to run a mature and responsible opposition based on issues, we are disturbed by this emerging development and reassure the Nigerian people that we will continue to stand with them on issues of democracy and freedom at all times.
“Perhaps, we need to remind General Buhari that part of the challenge of his new position, even as President-elect is that he has lost his private life which is now subject to public scrutiny and media interrogation, as required of the custodian of the mandate of the Nigerian people.
“The PDP is not oblivious of the background of the President-elect especially as it relates to the freedom of the media, but we had thought that having declared to be a converted democrat, he would make himself amenable to the basic principles of democracy by following the due process of the law on any circumstance.
“General Buhari may also wish to be reminded that the Nigerian constitution upon which provisions he emerged President-elect, also gave the media powers to cover activities of public office holders while at the same time providing legal avenues for redress in the event of any violation. If the right of the President-elect was in anyway violated by the AIT or any media house for that matter, he is expected to act within the law and seek redress in the courts otherwise one would have no option than to conclude that he is out for personal vendetta.
“The APC and the President-elect may have one or two lessons to pick from President Goodluck Jonathan, who though the most maligned and abused President in the history of our nation, even by the APC, allowed his actions to be sufficiently guided by humility, tolerance and the rule of law”, the PDP said.
The party called on Nigerians not to despair but remain steadfast and unite in resisting any anti-democratic tendencies intended to instill fear in them and set the stage for a dictatorial order and the erosion of their personal freedom and liberty as citizens, which they have been enjoying in the last 16 years under the PDP.
Signed: Olisa Metuh National Publicity Secretary Olisa metuh opposition work don start 4 yu abi?una go still run helter skelter if PMB took over frm Yonadaft, keep defending d(AIT) media wing of pdp. |

major466: Pls bear with me if you find my writeup a bit disorganized. My tablet is yet to arive so am using a small phone to write this piece to express maself about recent development. Thanks for understanding.
I was thrown into a deep shock when i read in the news that President elect, M. Buhari bared media house AIT from covering his activities. Though i wasnt surprised by his action, i was surprise because he's already showing the true nature we knew he was even before swearing in. What sort of democrat bar a media house from covering public activities? Does he think the office of President is he's private property? Who does he think he is? A king? Does he know the meaning of a public servant? Maybe not. Why he's semi illitrate, if not he would have understood that in democracy, the office of the president is not only accountable to the people but also to the Press. That is why freedom of the Press is one of the shining lights of democracy as a form of govenment.
This singular act by Buhari to bar a media organization from covering his activities as president elect just comfirm that he's still the same old dictator that he was 32 years ago. A liar who lied to the world in Chatam house that he was a democrat, banning a media house from covering his activities because of a documentary? Very childish and imature indeed! Does he know what democracy is all about? If he feels pained by a documentary then he has no business in politics.
I remember vividly during the US presidential campaign of 2008 when Fox News network castigated Obama to a point of no return. They made fun of him, ridicule him, called him monkey, fueled his birth certificate issues to the extend that almost got most Americans asking questions about his true country of birth. In the end he had to surrender his birth certificate to the press (unlike Buhari and his school certificate mess). It was a scandal. Plus the many other systematic attacks against his candidacy. Fox news people are racist. Those of you who watched that channel during and after the Presidential campaigns will know what am talking about. But ever since Barack Obama won the Presidency of the United States, not ones did Obama vent out his anger to revenge against fox news. Why? Because he understood the principles of democracy. As a private individual no media house will bother you. But as soon as you become a politician, the eyes of the press makes a microscopic look at your personality. The media will not only scrutinize your past but will also go way back in time to study your childhood background. Any shocking revelation will be brought to the public front. That is the way it is in democracy especially in advance societies like USA. Even our dear GEJ was not speared from the hard scrutinizing lens of the press, sometimes personal and insulting attacks against him. Did he ever vent out his anger by baring them from covering his activities? No. Why? Because he like Obama understood the principles of Democracy. He understood that press freedom is paramount in democracy. Thats why Nigerians of all ages can express themselves freely without fear of being arrested. This is the beauty of Democracy and freedom. For Buhari to lower himself like a child who got his azz kicked by his cousin to trample upon Freedom of Press shows that he's nothing but thesame old dictator in civilian clothes. Just like someone said, like OBJ like Buhari. Both dictators in civilian clothing.
BTW, I hear many Buhari followers giving excuses that he has the right to bar AIT citing privacy as reasons. Sure i completely agree that every individual on the planet deserves the right to privacy. That ofcouse is a fundamental human right. But they however failed to note that as soon as an individual becomes a public official in the position of a President elect, privacy becomes a secondary issue. Infact privacy is not an excuss to bar a media organization from performing its function by investigating Buhari's activites as president elect. This poser lack understanding he keep mmentioning office of d prsdnt 4 last time i check it is GEJ THAT OCCUPY THAT OFFICE,so freedom of press allow any immoral media organisation 2 bust into pple private resident 2 cover him, family without clearance, permission even when d person concern 2 sleeping or in d toilet?privacy is not an excuse abi?yu fit bust into ASO rock & cover jona shitting?what if d cameraman is carring bomb in his camera? |
