Education / JAMB – An Evil That Brings Out Stupidity In Nigerians by BizLifeE: 1:45am On Oct 05, 2017
Before the creation of an evil called JAMB, people had been going into higher institutions.

Why was JAMB created? No logical reasons than this “WAEC” can’t be trusted anymore. Yes, it’s possible for you to pass WAEC WASCE while you’re grossly incompetent academically. JAMB was created to check incompetent students from going into higher institutions, but the mission has failed.

Nigeria has always produced incompetent graduates.

People can gain admission into any higher institutions abroad, as long as they have good WAEC results. You do something like TOEFL, IELTS, etc. only to show that you can study in the language of instruction of the school where you’re going.

If WAEC results are enough for me to study abroad, where the quality of education is far superior, then why not in my country?

If the authorities think that WAEC, NECO are now corrupt and can’t be sufficient enough to prove students’ competence, why don’t they sanitize WAEC and NECO? Why don’t they let those who need to go to jail, go to jail? Why creating another evil (JAMB) to add to people’s problems, frustrations and hopelessness?

JAMB SHOULD BE SCRAPPED
I foresee a future where this evil called JAMB would be scrapped. It’s redundant. It’s unnecessary? It wastes people’s monies and time. It brings out stupidity in Nigerians.

Many glitches, allegations and lack of foresight around JAMB also testify to this.

It would be stupid for students not see any other numerous ways to get admission into higher institutions in this country, without sitting JAMB. Yes, there are many alternative routes.

When you see millions of students, who don’t know what they want to do with their life (they go to school because every Tom, Dick and Harry is going to school), crying, mourning and fighting because of JAMB. You need to ask, are these leaders of tomorrows?

Leaders of tomorrows who can’t see many alternatives under their noses?

JAMB recently lower their cut-off marks.

THE ONLY GOOD THING IN JAMB
Honestly, the only good thing in JAMB is the fact that it provides employment for some people. JAMB has staff all over the country, who are breadwinners of their families. When they get paid, they take care of others.

If JAMB is scrapped, its workers will lose their jobs. So for the workers to maintain their jobs, JAMB would need to continue to exist.

Foreign Affairs / Possible US Presidential Candidates For 2020? by BizLifeE: 4:21am On Sep 28, 2017
Who are possible US presidential candidates for 2020?

Republicans

Donald Trump - I don’t need to explain this.

Mike Pence - If Trump implodes, resigns, or just leaves Mike Pence steps up. He’s the VP and most of the party leadership actually likes him, as opposed to Trump.

John Kasich - If Trump gets impeached, and brings Pence down with him, Kasich is your boy. He’s the anti-Trump. Polite, soft-spoken, and actually gives a damn about policy.
Democrats

Bernie Sanders - Runner-ups in past primaries often go on to be the next nominee. Bernie also enjoys incredible popularity with the left.

Elizabeth Warren - The original left-wing firebrand. If Sanders doesn’t run, she could.
Cory Booker - Young, well-connected, charismatic. His presidential ambitions are a matter of when, not if.

Kamala Harris - The young upcoming Senator from California. Not only does she excited the Democratic base far more than Clinton did, she has appeal across the spectrum. She embraces Sanders-style reforms without giving the right the immediate perception of 'Socialism.’ (Thank you for the suggestions in the comments)
Kirsten Gillenbrand -A popular Senator from NY. She says she isn’t running; don’t believe her. She’s a younger version of Clinton with a lot less baggage.

Tim Kaine - He’s boring, but he was also the Democratic nominee for VP. He might bore you, but hell, by 2020, we might crave ‘boring.’

This list obviously isn’t comprehensive nor was it intended to be. It’s likely that Republicans will win, and I say that because it’s ALWAYS statistically likely for incumbents to win. Donald Trump is unpopular, incredibly so.

But never underestimate Democrats ability to screw away their chances, or any political party for that matter.

Never.

Politics / Why Did Nigeria Move Its Capital From Lagos To Abuja? by BizLifeE: 12:47pm On Sep 23, 2017
okay let me give a different view from Kennedy’s cabal theory.

Lagos was congested and due to the nature of the terrain, it was difficult to expand and have the kind of infrastructure that was envisaged. Abuja in the center of the country has virtually limitless land for expansion. World class infrastructure has been built but has fallen into disrepair due to poor maintenance and planning culture.

Security was also a nightmare due to the congestion. There had been 2 assassinations of the President already and 4 changes of government in violent ways. It was believed that there was a need to have a better position for the seats of government. The seat of government in Abuja is in a wide expanse of land where movement around the whole city can be monitored. There has never been violent transfer of power since the capital moved in 1993.

Lagos was deeply entrenched in the heartland of one of the main ethnic groups in Nigeria and there was no chance it was going to loosen up. Contrary to the widely held belief in the South of Nigeria, Abuja is not Hausa land but the minority Gwari tribe. Igbo people from South of Nigeria are now the largest land holders in Abuja.

The 70s was a time of Black/African renaissance and the belief that the black man had a great manifest destiny was still alive. Abuja was therefore conceived of as a City that will be a showpiece and pride of the Black race.

If the cabal was all about regionalism and tribalism, Kaduna would have been the choice of the new Capital not Abuja.

Crime / Scams In London by BizLifeE: 2:51am On Sep 17, 2017
Is there any common scam in London that I can prepare myself to avoid?

Never buy anything in a pub that isn’t sold by the Landlord. It will be stolen and possibly fake.

Street prostitution is now, mercifully, rare in London. If you are approached by a woman on the street, they are more likely to be a thief than a prostitute.

Now much less common than they used to be but “tequila girls” (often wearing a bandolero of shot glasses) are likely to sell you highly overpriced, watered-down, poor quality tequila.

99% of street dealers in London are selling shit drugs. Those guys in Camden turn a huge profit selling salad or pebbles wrapped up in cling film.

Every policeman in London carries a badge and works with a partner. If in any doubt, insist on going to the police station. London coppers do not take bribes and will never ask for one. If they fine you, there is a paperwork which they must hand over BEFORE you hand them the fine.

Aberdeen Steakhouses might look like restaurants….

Never, ever take a taxi from the kerbside that is not a black cab. If you want a cheap ride home, use an app or a bus.

Sometimes there are pop up auction houses selling cheap electronics and perfume (they used to be more common, in areas like Oxford Street). Don’t. You will not be buying what you think you are buying and probably wont be paying what you think you’ll be paying.

Similarly, strip bars in Soho (also much less common than in the past) are called “clip joints” by Londoners and are set up to extract as much money as possible from foolish, drunk punters. Many used to be run by some of London’s most dangerous gangs. That beer is going to cost you a lot of money or some broken bones. (This is not true of places like Stringfellows or Spearmint Rhino. Unless you are very foolish or very drunk, you should be able to tell the difference). If you want to see strippers in London and not pay a fortune, go to a strip pub. You will pay £1–2 per dance - “pound in the pot” - to the girls who walk around the bar before their dance, collecting the money in a pint glass. Yes, you do have to pay the girls even if you are about to leave and will not see them dance. These places are not classy but they are usually a laugh and female punters are welcome. You will not be enjoying the most erotic experience of your life unless you have some very unusual kinks.

Be very, very careful buying concert or theatre tickets from places in the West End - they are often selling at vastly inflated prices. Check the theatre/venue FIRST.

Building work. All building work in London is a rip off ; some of it is an outright scam. Never employ a tradesman in London who cannot show proof of address, company registrations and professional indemnity insurance. You will be ripped off.

Uber and similar app taxi drivers will tell you that they are following the direction on their satnav. Often they are picking the longest route option that their satnav gives them. Check your route beforehand - if you have phone that does apps, you have a phone that can do google maps & directions - and insist on going that way when you get in. If they refuse, get out and report them. London South of the River is not dangerous and you do not need to pay extra to go there.

Bus tours for tourists are sold on the street on a commission basis. If you take up their offer, you will be paying over the odds. Book it online.

Biggest scam in London? The Heathrow Express.

Sports / The Most Important Skill In Football by BizLifeE: 9:50pm On Sep 09, 2017
What is the most important skill to have in football?

Decision Making.

Whether on the ball, when to shoot, pass, dribble… etc, or off the ball, which is basically the same thing as off-the-ball movement and positioning.

Having a great football IQ and being a great decision maker makes every skill you have and everything you do much more effective.
Being a bad decision maker, on the other hand, just makes any skill you have, no matter how good at it you’re, of little to no use.

I always said that, out of their long lists of skills, Ronaldo’s main strength is his off-the-ball work (/decision making) and that Messi’s main strength is his (on-the-ball) decision making, and I think there is no better argument for this skill being the most important than it being the main strength of the two greatest players of the century.

Education / The Worst Advice You Can Give Children by BizLifeE: 1:51pm On Aug 30, 2017
What is, in your opinion, the most damaging advice people can give to children?

“Follow your passion” or the similar “Follow your dreams.” I’ve seen this advice lead people into paths in which they could not have productive lives or support themselves or families.

With this advice, many kids will choose to become professional athletes, and then fail. My daughter (Elizabeth Muller) once wanted to become a professional dancer. I think she is very glad now that she instead went to UC San Diego, majored in math and literature, and got a masters degree in international management. (She is now the CEO of our non-profit BerkeleyEarth.org.) One of her friends, in contrast, decided to become a professional bicycle racer (encouraged by her parents) and she now supports herself by selling and repairing bicycles. Nothing wrong with that, but I don’t think it was what she envisioned when she took this career path.

I suggest to children that before they set out on a career path, they consider what will happen if they are the 1000th best in the field. If your field is boxing, you will either be completely out of work, be a sparring partner, or (if you are lucky) be running your own gym. (Or, maybe, you’ll be an enforcer for some mob.) If you are a ballet dancer, it is unlikely that you will be performing; you will probably be teaching children how to dance ballet. If your field is physics or math, you will have very good income, have the respect of your neighbors (maybe they’ll think you are a genius), and a good diverse and productive life.

I suggest instead that you teach children to try to plan their future lives, to design their futures. They should approach it as they would a challenging homework problem. Learn more about possible careers, and what they are like. Don’t choose too early, since many careers (running Berkeley Earth?) are not obvious to a youngster. Get a broad education, and do a good job at it. Study hard and learn. Get familiar with the world. Beware of childhood passions; they are based on a limited experience, and may not be a good choice for a career.

Career / What’s The Best And Most Profitable Skill I Can Learn Quickly? by BizLifeE: 12:52pm On Aug 21, 2017
What skill should I learn for 1-2 hours a day, which will help me become successful?

Ok. Let's see. 365 days X 5 years X 2 hours a day = 3650 hours to practice your new skill.

Not quite 10,000 hours, but still enough time to crush it at one skill.

It'll be hard to choose a universal skill since everyone's circumstances are different. There's nothing universal that can guarantee you success.

Communication is good, writing is good, and constantly learning is great. But, what if you’re communicating to the wrong people, writing the wrong message or learning off topic?

No, there must be something that ties them all together.

It has to be simple.

It has to be effective.

It has to be something that makes every other area of your life exceptional.

It has to guarantee success.

It's Focus

Without focus, you can't learn a skill.

Without focus you can't meet a goal.

Without focus its hard to do much of anything.

With focus, it's hard not to do things well.

Spend the next five years learning how to focus. You'll love the rest of your life.

Investment / Where Can One See Real Time Charts Of Nigerian Markets? by BizLifeE: 12:01pm On Aug 14, 2017
It’s a pity that I can’t get any real time charts of Nigerian markets, especially stock markets.

If you want to trade Australian, European, US, Canadian, Japanese, etc. Even South African markets, the charts are readily available? But in Nigeria, the case is different.

There are some foreigners who want to partner with NSE, but who don’t get any response. I even emailed them – no response. I called them – failure.

Is this how Nigerian markets would grow, when interested investors can’t access the public markets. Why can’t the public trade Nigerian stocks… Just like it is being done overseas?

I’m tired of hearing useless financial news that tell me when the markets close, plus top gainers and losers. I want to see everything in real time.

Is it only registered brokers that can see Nigerian markets? Where can one see real time charts of Nigerian markets?

Politics / Is Nigeria On The Brink Of Another Civil War? by BizLifeE: 11:07am On Aug 07, 2017
Nigeria is slightly complicated for outsiders to understand, it seemingly is always “on the brink”. But if I had a kobo for every time I saw a variant of this sort of headline, proclaiming Nigeria’s imminent demise, I wouldn’t need a Patreon, I’d be yachting in Monaco. Mind you, one dollar is about 3,850 Kobo.

Jokes aside, Nigeria is held together by tenuous threads that strain, but will not break. A direct answer to the question itself is No.

Civil wars aren’t fought in a vacuum, they are driven by a sense of grievance, but sustained only through a source of funding capable of maintaining an “anti-state”, think easily exportable resources, and or foreign sponsors. Anger does not bullets make.

The civil war happened due to the financial independence of the regions, particularly the Eastern region’s possession of crude oil reserves. In the buildup to the war, the then military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon carved out 12 states out of 3 regions, in the process leaving the Igbo heartland states, nearly shorn of all oil reserves, cut off from the sea and most importantly gave the minorities of the Eastern region, states of their own, and hence a stake in Nigeria. This was on 5 May 1967, on 6 July 1967, the Eastern region Military governor, Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu declared the Republic of Biafra, claiming the entirety of the defunct Eastern region. The war ensued.

That can no longer happen, the states are all financially reliant on the Federal government, the nation’s electricity is equally centrally controlled. The Federal government is vastly superior to all would be challengers, so the worst case scenario is yet another terror campaign.

So much for failing “to learn the lessons from its horrific civil war”. The problem though, they may have learned too well. Nigeria will carry on for the foreseeable future, teetering, but never quite keeling over.

Webmasters / How Can I Increase Traffic On My Online Store? by BizLifeE: 9:08am On Aug 02, 2017
I have an online store I made using wix and I sell earphones. I just made it lad month but haven't made an online sale and I was wondering how I can increase traffic.

Hey there,

I am successfully running 8 online shops in 8 different branches of industry and of different size (I must admit that one online shop failed because I picked the wrong niche:O). I pretty much use the same ways to generate traffic:

You have to utilize platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (these are the obvious ones) but also makes use of slightly underrated marketing opportunities such as posting on Pinterest and writing on Reddit, and even here on Quora!

Second of all, I would recommend to get some third party to take care of your Ad campaigns on Google Adwords and Facebook Ads. For SEO, I can advise you to use Moz, which is easy and not expensive.

I also really like the Traffic Booster, which focuses on PPC campaigns and really generated a lot of targeted traffic for my online shops for a very good price.

Try also to reach out to bloggers (sometimes you might have to pay them). Using their reach can be very powerful and promote your online store significantly.

Overall, I think I was most successful using the mentioned apps even though it cost me a lot to find these as I had to try out many to eventually find the ones that really work great.

Good luck and let me know if you have got any other questions.
