Career / Why Most Businesses Fail (confidential) by BizLifeE: 3:42pm On Jun 17, 2017
Where do most web startups fail?

Most of the start-ups that actually fail, fail because the founders quit.

I've invested in about 80 companies and roughly 20% of them failed as of now (failure to me is determined that the investors got less than 100% of their money back). Generally, this is due to the founders quitting, wanting a break, or just being tired. Essentially the founders gave up and the business failed.

There is nothing wrong with people giving up. Sometimes in the face of overwhelming evidence, it makes sense for a founder to quit and do something else ... that is what a rational person would do.

But as an investor, you're best with a completely irrational founder that will not rest until she succeeds. One that will not take failure as an option. I'm not sure how you identify this founder ... things like grit, perseverance, and tenacity are really hard to interview for. But they are likely the number one indicator of not investing in a failure.

In fact, if the founders never quit, the start-up, by definition, will never fail. It may never succeed widely, but it won't fail.

Of course, entrepreneurs that would not quit might not be the folks that lead to a super success. If Google was going sideways in the early days, would Larry Page stay there or would he leave and go do something else? We will never know the answer.

But I have seen plenty of entrepreneurs who quit on the first sign of failure. They get punched in the nose once and they just leave the fight. Sometimes I am shocked that a company is shutting down just a year after they raised a seed round.

Alternatively, I have seen entrepreneurs who keep getting knocked down and back up. Then they get knocked on their butts and get up again. Then they get knocked on their butts again and get up yet again. These resilient entrepreneurs fail all the time ... but they would never let their companies fail.

Note: I personally have done both. I was involved with a company when I was younger that failed ... partially because myself and the other founders gave up. And most recently I was involved in a company where many more sane people would have given up and we turned it into a roaring success.

Exchange business: 7 things we don’t do

Hello Traders:

Here are 7 things we don’t do in e-currencies business

WE DON’T DELAY CUSTOMERS - 1
When a customer places a “buy” or “sell” order, we process it quickly. Customers are even surprised that some orders are processed at “the speed of light.” However, there are a few exceptions, like when the manager isn’t on seat (which can delay a transaction for a few hours), or when a cash transfer fails, which could take a few days to resolve (a rare occurrence). Customers like us for our Instant cash transfer policy. Those who’ve used other popular exchangers who usually delay payment till the following day, and then used us, knows the difference.

WE DON’T ALLOW NETELLER WITHDRAWL FROM UNVERIFIED CUSTOMERS - 2
No-one may sell Neteller to us without getting verified by us. However, you don’t need verification to fund Neteller. To sell or buy Perfect Money, Payeer and Epay, you don’t need to register, not to mention getting verified. However, registration would allow us to server you better and faster.

WE DON’T TAKE OUR CUSTOMERS FOR GRANTED - 3
That’s why we try to process their orders as quickly as we can. That’s why we give competitive rates for our customers to make money while selling and save money while buying. That’s why we reward them with cash gifts, recharge cards, etc. That’s why we’re not too proud to apologize whenever there’s a slight delay in a transaction.

WE DON’T LET A TRANSACTION HAPPEN WITHOUT UPDATING OUR CUSTOMERS - 4
When we fund your e-wallet, we let you know by IM/SMS and email. When we transfer cash to your bank account, we let you know by IM/SMS and email. This is in sharp contrast with some exchangers who simply do transactions, hoping that you’ll get an alert or you’ll check your e-wallet. We think that, it’s important to let a customer know that a transaction has been done in their behalf – whether they’re aware or not.

WE DON’T HOLD CUSTOMERS FUNDS ILLEGALLY - 5
When you send us cash and we can’t process your order, we transfer the cash back to you, after asking for your bank account details. If you send e-currency to us and we can’t pay you, we forwards it back to you. We just don’t hold you funds for days, with the hope of getting money to pay or getting e-ccurency to fund. If we’re not buying or selling, we let you know. If Neteller is transferred to us with an account that’s not verified by us, we forward the Neteller to the sender, while attaching a note explaining why we do that.

WE DON’T IGNORE CALLS AND MESSAGES FROM CUSTOMERS - 6
We call you back when we see your missed calls. We reply the IMs you send to us when we’re offline. Even we don’t ignore common SMS from customers. This is unlike big exchangers who won’t pick your calls and will never call you back or never reply to your IMs.

WE DON’T KEEP OUR CUSTOMERS IN DEARKNESS - 7
That’s why we do email marketing… To let our customers get aware of current news, promos, events, etc. happening. As our customers list grows, we’ll turn to professional email marketing service providers.

Politics / What Can I Do To Make Nigeria Better? by BizLifeE: 10:58am On Jun 14, 2017
What can be done to turn Nigeria into a better country when it comes to politics?

Something very hard and time consuming.

A new party needs to be formed, preferably one that originates in Nigerian Universities, preferably excluding everybody born before 1980 and in my opinion most importantly makes it front and center on their manifesto a promise to bring in a new constitution if voted into power.

This new party would of course have to build a structure that bypasses the easily swayed masses, find charismatic leaders to sell their policies, find a financing structure and most importantly avoid being co-opted by the existing parties. Good luck.

Business / List Of The Countries Where Forex Trading Is Banned by BizLifeE: 3:18pm On Jun 07, 2017
Which countries ban Forex trading?

Here is a list of countries that ban or limit Forex:

Belarus
Bosnia & Herzegovina
British Columbia (Canada)
Bulgaria
China (Strict regulations if not total ban)
Cuba
India
Indonesia
Ivory Coast
Iran
Liberia
Lithuania
Macedonia
Malaysia
Montenegro
Myanmar
Nigeria
North Korea
Pakistan
Quebec (Canada)
Romania
South Korea
Sri Lanka (Recently relaxed but not confirmed)
St. Helena
Sudan
Syria
Ukraine
Zimbabwe

This according to this site: http://www.dollarshower.com/forex-trading-banned-countries/

The site gives some notions of what the ban may mean:

Further clarification on ban categories

The ban or inability to do Forex trading could be due to the following financial regulations:

Some regulators ban any kind of overseas transactions via anti-money laundering laws

Controlled and regulated forex transactions via stipulated guidelines – this is the case where

Forex trading is still allowed under certain conditions

Ban on using credit cards to fund or withdraw deposits in foreign currency

Ban on using a domestic banking account to fund overseas transactions

Inability to withdraw proceeds from online forex trading entities to your account

Various anti-terrorism laws that curb forex transactions

I don’t know if in some of these countries Forex is restricted or not - you can do further research about a particular country when needed.

Mojisola Haleemat Olaiya, died recently. Her death was very painful.

But there’s something I want Nigerians to know:

If the woman died in Nigeria, many of us would be blaming the government for poor medical facilities, though there are now fine hospitals in Nigeria.

Mojisola died in Canada, despite the fact that the country has part of the best medical facilities in the world. Why then, not blame the Canadian health system for not saving her life? If it was Nigeria, we would be playing the blame game.

Why Nigeria?

This is the age; I speak their age!
the golden age of thuggery and hooliganism
the age of assassinations and murders with impunity
the age of going scot-free and unscathed after committing heinous crimes
the age of using goons as a political tool
the age of using drugs and lethal weapons on the street
the age of conciliatory cooperation between cops and ruffians
the age of imposition of curfews by touts
the age of collection of fees they do not work for
the age of molestation of innocent and gentle citizens
the age of enjoyment of bounties and benefits that workers cannot afford
the age of a world of area boys and rogues
the age of sultry love among beautiful girls and dangerous boys
the age of seeing armed robbery as a necessity
the age of intimidation, implication, trepidation and insecurity
the age of electing money as the number one quality, prerequisite, criterion, and qualifying factor
the age of getting money by whatever means available, legal or illegal
the age of belief that only the strong can collect unlawful money from the public
the age of getting tipped for slang words and praises
the age of talking about street fighters’ exploits with zealous excitement
the age of purchasing of properties and cars by professional louts
the age of seeing strength and mad bravery as necessities
the age of welcoming the procession of official thugs with loud ovation
and finally it is the golden age of anarchy
Oh, I weep for parents who bear children they cannot train

Programming / I’m 27 Year Old. I’m I Too Old To Learn Programming? by BizLifeE: 3:03am On Jun 03, 2017
Is 27 too old to master programming?

I am going to be brutally honest with you.

You will never master programming at 27.

You will never master programming by 37.

You will never master programming.

You will never master programming because nobody can master programming. It’s just not possible considering there are new languages, frameworks, etc… being developed constantly. You can become very proficient in understanding the logic, syntax, and different libraries in a language… but you can’t master programming as a whole; you can’t even master an entire language (at least more modern languages) because here will always be libraries, framework, etc… being developed for said language.

My advice to you is to try a few languages, find one that you like, then seek to become relatively proficient with said language(s). You may not be able to master programming, but you certainly can become very proficient with a language and create lovely applications even (even if you start as a beginner) at ages older than 27.

You secretly learn that your employer is going to fire you two days from now (the information is reliable). What steps do you do next?

First day: I would call in sick, telling them I'm very ill.

2nd day: Tell them I'm feeling unbelievably sick, can barely talk. Tell them I'm going to the doctor.

3rd day: call at 6am and leave a message: the prognosis is not good. I had some poisonous mushrooms. I'm in a medical facility. I may not make it. These next few days will tell. Tell them if the worst happens, I loved working with them, wish them the best.

4th day: ghost it. Don't pick up phone. Just get a new number. Don't answer door. No post to social media (better yet, temporarily inactivate your FB), don't answer emails. Then never make contact with anybody from work ever again.

Celebrities / The Best Place To Live In Nigeria by BizLifeE: 10:13pm On May 30, 2017
Which part of Nigeria is the best to live?

This is quite relative. It depends on your definition of best.

If you love the rush, buzz and excitement of social and energetic life, Lagos it is. Lagos also provides an avenue for business and access to a massive market of its nearly 22 million residents. Lagos is probably the most developed state in Nigeria (this is arguable)

Do you prefer a peaceful, serene and tranquil life where you may have access to the biggest politicians in the scene and maybe a high-class environment? Abuja.

Do you want a mix of Lagos and Abuja with lesser populace and growing economy and popularity - Kano, Kaduna, Oyo, Osun, Imo and Port Harcourt (Rivers State)

Do you prefer a growing state with the prospect of growing infrastructures and want to take advantage of the early bird in markets or other things - Ogun, Akwa Ibom (Uyo precisely), Cross River (Calabar), Asaba (Delta)

Do you want to live in peace and hate the noise, excitement and all sorts - Enugu, Osun, Kwara, Ondo.

I think it all depends what you want but relatively, if you're not Nigerian, I'll advice Lagos, Abuja. You'll fit in well there because of the diverse culture and people.

Here are 13 of the best things to avoid that employers do not want to see on a resume.

DON’T:

Leave excess white space on your resume

Include a picture of your face (unless you are in European countries, that require it, or you are applying for a job as an actor.)

Use a resume generator

Use elaborate colors and fonts

Use the same verb twice at the beginning of a new phrase

Use Company specific jargon - generalize your job titles

Use too many verbs in a row

List every class you have ever taken, only relevant course to the position

Talk about your ‘goals’ in the summary section…if you even have a summary section

Include references on your resume, it is not the place

Include an interests section

Include the exact address, the city and state will suffice

Use an unprofessional and outdated email domain (EX:

Health / Why People Die In Their Sleep by BizLifeE: 3:37pm On May 24, 2017
If you die in your sleep of natural causes, what are the “natural causes”?

Any cause of death that isn’t unnatural (suicide, homicide, accident) is natural. So it could be anything.

Usually, when people die in their sleep, it’s from something that happens too quickly to wake them up, or else from something that causes unconsciousness before it causes death. Heart or lung failure can kill in your sleep. A massive stroke can kill you before you have a chance to notice anything’s gone wrong. Sometimes people’s bodies just wear out—we call it becoming frail—and even the doctors can’t tell what specifically caused their death, because they had so many health issues all at once.

If a young, relatively healthy person dies in their sleep, it tends to be categorized as “sudden cardiac death”—a heart attack, usually due to a congenital heart defect that caused a fatally disturbed heart rhythm rather than the typical blocked coronary arteries. For young people with epilepsy, it might be SUDEP (sudden death in epilepsy)—a seizure that wouldn’t stop until it starved the brain and killed the person. Both sudden cardiac death and SUDEP are rare, and usually don’t happen in one’s sleep; but they can.

Travel / The Most Corrupt Airports by BizLifeE: 1:51pm On May 17, 2017
What are some of the most corrupt airports?

When I traveled abroad for the first time, I was going to Egypt.

After I landed in Cairo Airport, the immigration officer asked me ‘Is it your first time traveling abroad’ (looking at the only visa in my passport).

I said, ‘Yes’.

After 2 minutes, she said, please wait in the waiting area.

I kept waiting for 2 hours and gradually she left. Now, I was the only person in the entire terminal building apart from a sweeper who was cleaning the terminal.

After half an hour (2.5 hours of waiting), the sweeper comes to me and asks ‘Passport, passport?’.

I said ‘Yes, I have been waiting for 2.5 hours’.

He said ‘Come to me’. (took me to to the men’s toilet)

He says ‘100 Dollars’.

For one moment, I was shocked. Looking at how corrupt the system was.

I had 1000 thought in my mind.

But I thought it’s better to be practical.

I started bargaining.

Back then, 1 USD was equal to 6 Egyptian Pounds i.e. 100 USD = 600 EGP.

So, I started bargaining and we settled down at 30 Egyptian Pounds. (Yes! I did a lot of drama)

Then, he agreed and said ‘Wait for me. I will tell you when you have to come to me’

In the mean time, he got me my luggage since it was the only bag on the luggage belt and the entire terminal was empty.

After 15 minutes, he was standing at the immigration counter and created a sound to call me near him, holding my passport in his hand.

Well, I don’t know what came to my mind.

But, suddenly, instead of taking out money from my wallet, I started walking towards him.

By the time I reached the counter, he opened the gate.

I start to find the visa page.

AND SUDDENLY, I RAN LIKE IT WAS THE LAST MOMENT OF MY LIFE.

That was the fastest I have ever run.

The terminal was relatively small and it took me nearly 5 seconds to exit the terminal from the immigration counter with the passport in my hand.

When I was running, I saw the security guards looking at me, near the exit, but by the time they could stop me, I was already outside the terminal.

Oh my god! It still gets me goosebumps every time I think of that incident.

EDIT 1 - Since a lot of people are saying that running away was a bad idea. Let me explain - Why pay money and why be scared when I did not do anything wrong? It was incredibly stupid for me to pay any money (let alone $5) to get my passport. It is my right to get the passport when I haven’t done anything wrong. If the government department wanted charity, they could have simply kept a box for money collection, I would be happy doing that instead over someone asking me for a bribe in a case where I have followed each and every rule/law and didn’t do anything against the law.

Not a single one.

The fastest ever recorded time by a footballer was a very quick 34.7kmh , that was Gareth Bale of Wales and Real Madrid .

When Usain Bolt won his last gold medal he slowed down drastically and still recorded an average speed of 44.77kmh .

The winning margins are so small that only a couple of seconds could separate 100’s of sprinters , I would guess that if Bale lined up on the grid against ANY 7 Olympic sprinters he would finish last .
