3. Why CWI?...in all honesty its mostly d Money, I'm told welding inspection is financially rewarding if u cn find ur way in
4. My interests are as listed above. I'm driven by a thirst for success, a strong desire to excel in whatever venture, and I really like to see the reasonable Impact I make. m sort of a perfectionist so I cn be very resilient whn i want certain results.

Hope ville: There are some important questions you need to ask yourself:

1. Why did I study Mech. Eng in the first place?
2. Are those reasons still valid today?
3. Why do I want to become a CWI?
4. What is my interest and drive?

If you can answer the above two questions truthfully to yourself, you may as well be on your path to career excellence in no time.
Maybe I should wait for your answers before I say further...

I'm at a point in my life where I need to make a very critical decision, I'm a young Mechanical engineering graduate with very limited funds and time, been in the job market for a while hasnt been too swell, so I need to step my game up a notch but I'm currently in a fix; Which of the above do u fink holds the best prospects for a young Mech Engr with little or no experience trying to startup a career. I rily need to make an informed choice

AWS CWI certification I'm told is quite valuable with the right contacts; some say an MSc would be a better choice; I'm computer savvy and i enjoy tasks involving research and design so I'm also looking at learning one or two engineering softwares (PDMS,HYSYS etc I dnt evn knw wch one yet)...So I'm in a bit of a quagmire now. If i could afford it I woulda done a combination of some but I cnt right now, I need to start with one,so which ever I decide to do now must give me a good start. Please I need your informed opinions. Bless

maximize your 12 months service period, its a great window for filling in the gaps...practice and improve ur test-taking skills (gmat, gre, shl etc )take advantage of the "relevant" subsidised trainings and certifications offered to corp members. I regreted not doing this

secondly,every GTB slip gets stamped electronically and d electronic stamp shows a time and date detail.in the scanned copy u uploaded what appears to be an electronic stamp to the top right of the account number column ( just above the last two digits 38) shows "2012 NOV 21" while you claim to have paid on the 20th,
heres a shot of deposit slip i paid in with today DEC 5th, notice the rubber and electronic stamps

Colour ME: Economy against marketability is what you should be looking out for. CWI (AWS or CSWIP) is cheaper compare to CWeng, but what about their markebility? Presently, it will cost you around 400K to write CWI plus some 80K to get trained from a good tutor and almost twice that amount to get CWeng.
The problem lies in the number of people having CWI against those with CWeng and your chances of securing a job with both.

No one would want to hire a fresh welding inspector without some experience, considering the practical requirements of supervising welding in the field while on the other hands welding engineer (CWeng) has little or no connection with the field ( root gap, pre-heating temperature, visual inspection of deformity, inter-pass temperature and monitoring the conditions of welding equipments and all that) except if he/she wishes to observe the making of PQR and WPS or testing his designed welding joints. His presence is all optional. The welding supervisor/ Quality controller communicates to him the results of DT( destructive test) and the needs to either re-design the welding joints.

secondly, the job prospect of CWI is very slim when compared with CWeng (I may not have any statistics to back my claim) but, I talk from observation point of view. Do you know the number of people out there with CWI? The truth here is holder of CWeng certificaties are hot cakes. we only get expatriates when we call for CWeng while hundreds troop in with CWI.

Salary? The take home pay of CWeng doubles that of CWI.

Finally, the decision of which one to write is yours alone.

You may as well look into the following certifications.

CSWIP and AWS(welding inspection), BGAS and NACE( coating and painting), NDT ( non destructive test), QMS ( quality management system) and Safety.

Knowledge of any of the software like Hysis, Pdms, Pds, Tekla structures, autocad, CAESAR ( pipe stress analysis) solidworks, Autodesk P & ID, Autodesk 3D plant, Autodesk Robot structural analysis, compress or tank( pressure vessel design software), microstation
