As for kings, Igbo enwe Eze simply means that the Igbos as a whole never had a single representative in the name of King, most Igbo clans practice what you will call Republican way of rule through "ụmụ Nna" (which is more advanced than kingship and kingdoms). But few Igbo clans have kings, an example is in Ana Edo clan where one of the towns in it known as Nnewi were being led by the Obi of Otolo, who will go by the title "the Igwe of Nnewi". It is important to note that both Obi and Igwe are titles in Igboland, Obi means the leader of a clan while Igwe is the fourth stage of ọzọ title in ancient Nri which was previously reserved for the Eze nri. The full name of the title is "Igwekala".
