CNPP backs clamour for zoning of Speaker to S’East From FRANCIS AWOWOLE-BROWNE, Abuja Friday, May 6, 2011 The South-east governors bid for the position of speakership for the geo-political zone received a boost yesterday when the Secretary-General, Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Chief Willy Ezugwu has lent his voice to the clamour. advertisement He said that with the performance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the zone during the election, there arose the need for the mainstreaming of Ndigbo into the political equation that is playing out in the aftermath of the general elections. Chief Ezugwu noted that “another political crisis looms in the horizon given the acrimonious struggle over zoning, the contentions over the conduct of the elections and the violence-prone outcome of the presidential election with the bickering that is now dominating the sharing of positions.” In a statement he issued in Abuja, Chief Ezugwu declared support for those demanding that the Speaker of the House of Representatives as the least or minimum position that an Ibo person should occupy in the unfolding political dispensation. Chief Ezugwu, who is also the Vice Chairman-Governing Board of the Save Nigeria Group, warned that, “anything short of the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives for the South-east will further confirm and underscore the agenda of some sections of the country to monopolize the offices of the country under the guise of zoning.” “In line with the fears expressed in the past by the Igbo Political Forum (IPF) it is becoming glaring that the Jonathan’s Presidency may be harmful to the Ibos if the ongoing clamour over positions is not properly and fairly resolved,” he noted. According to him, “the meddlesomeness of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo with his insinuation that he is insisting on the retention of the current zoning arrangement of the PDP is saddling the Igbos with the unenviable position of the Deputy Senate President, which does not command any significant political power.” He said he is of the view that in spite of all odds, Ibos supported the Jonathan presidential bid even when it looked doubtful and unviable before his party’s presidential primary and again gave him massive support during the election as evident in the results from the South-east and even in states like Lagos, Kano, Kaduna and others where they ensured massive wins for him despite the stiff challenge he faced from the opposition in such places. The CNPP chieftain, a former Director-General of the defunct Orji Uzor Kalu presidential Campaign Organisation, challenged President Jonathan to reciprocate the goodwill of the people of the South-east by not only insisting that the Senate presidency or at least the Speaker of House of Representatives must be zoned to the South-east without delay but should also ensure that other vital positions in the executive come to the zone. Ezugwu said the Ibo people are watching every move made by the President and the PDP on this matter and they will speak out their mind loud and clear when party finally takes a decision on this matter. http://odili.net/news/source/2011/may/6/503.html |

South African Minister's Wife Jailed For Drug Trafficking 5/6/2011 2:04 PM ET TOP MARKET NEWS Stocks Move Well Off Best Levels But Still Close Higher - U.S. Commentary Stocks Giving Back Ground But Remain Mostly Positive - U.S. Commentary Stocks Seeing Continued Strength On Upbeat Jobs Data - U.S. Commentary Access Industries To Take Warner Music Private For $3.3 Bln Cash Stocks Seeing Further Upside In Late Morning Trading - U.S. Commentary (RTTNews) - A court in South Africa on Friday sentenced Sheryl Cwele, wife of the country's Security Minister, and an accomplice to 12 years in prison each for trafficking drugs. The sentencing came a day after the High Court in the city of Pietermaritzburg convicted Cwele, who is married to State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele, along with her accomplice Frank Nabolisa, a Nigerian national, of drug trafficking. They were convicted after the court found the pair guilty of using young women as carriers to smuggle cocaine into South Africa from Turkey and South America. Both the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. While delivering the sentence, Judge Piet Koen noted: "Many families are affected by drugs which are brought here illegally. They suffer as a result of dealers who often initiate addiction by constant supply and thrive on that addiction." Lawyers of Cwele and Nabolisa said after the sentencing that they would appeal against the verdict. The pair, who faced up to 15 years in prison each before Friday's sentencing, will remain free until the appeal hearing. There were no immediate public comments from Siyabonga Cwele about the conviction of his wife. He had earlier denied any knowledge of his wife's alleged drug trafficking activities, but said on Friday that he would not comment on the case until after the appeal was heard. The allegations of drug trafficking against Sheryl Cwele first surfaced after a South African woman was arrested with nine kilograms of cocaine at an airport in Brazil in 2008. The woman, Tessa Beetge, is currently serving an eight-year jail sentence in Sao Paulo. The case against Cwele and Nabolisa was strengthened by the testimony of state witness Charmaine Moss, another South African woman the pair had attempted to recruit to smuggle cocaine from Turkey. Moss had testified earlier that Cwele and Nabolisa had offered her more than $3,500 for picking up a parcel in Turkey. by RTT Staff Writer For comments and feedback: editorial@rttnews.com Sponsored Link: Why would a geologist risk his life for a penny stock in one of the most isolated regions on the planet?
Stop using a term you know nothing about. No Igbo feels inferior to anyone. Why do you think every Igbo man thinks of himself as a king? No king feels inferior to a common peasant. The fact remains that Igbos need to stop thinking of themselves as superior to each other and other groups. I have never met an Igbo who though he was inferior to anyone. Most Igbos think they can do anything better than the rest. To be frank, many Igbos have a SUPERIORITY COMPLEX. Which means an exaggerated feeling of being superior to others. That is something I will admit. Igbos see Hausa as backwards beast of burden and Yoruba. . . I wont say. Now stop with your absurd psychoanalysis, because it makes you look like a DUMB ARSE. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superiority_complex
You just never tire of making an i.diot out of urself. |
