Ogogoro
Ogogoro (Ogog') is a west African alcoholic drink,
usually brewed locally. It is most popular in
Nigeria, where it is known as the country's
homebrew.[1] It is also known as akpeteshie
(especially in Ghana), Sapele water, Kparaga, kai-
kai, Sun gbalaja, Egun inu igo meaning The
Masquerade in the Bottle, push-me-push-you,
and/or crim-kena, Sonsé ("do you do it?" in
Yoruba language). Other Nigerian epithets
include: ufofob [Calabar], robirobi [Abeokuta],
baba erin [Ilesha], eyinbo gò (white man is not
smarter), majidun, etonto [Pidgin English], wuru
[Ijaw], Udi Ogagan and Agbakara [Benin] and Aka
mere, Agbagba [Urhobo], as well OHMS (Our
Home Made Stuff), Iced Water, Push Me, I Push
You and Craze man in the bottle.[2]
Properties and preparation
Ogogoro is distilled from the juice of Raffia palm
trees; an incision is made in the trunk and a
gourd placed outside it for collection, which is
collected a day or two later. After extraction, the
sap is boiled to form steam, which subsequently
condenses and is collected for consumption.
The active ingredient in ogogoro is ethanol,
whose concentration within the drink is very
high; the alcohol content of local ogogoro ranges
between 30-60%. Coupled with the fact that it is
often home-brewed by amateurs, the drink can be
extremely dangerous. Indeed, it is said that
hundreds die every year from improperly brewed
ogogoro or other such drinks.[3]
Social significance
As drink and commodity, respectively, ogogoro
carries substantial cultural and economic
significance within Nigeria. It is an essential part
of numerous religious and social ceremonies;
Burutu ( Ijaw) priests pour it onto the ground as
offerings to contact their gods, while fathers of
Nigerian brides use it as a libation by which they
provide their official blessing to a wedding.
The economic facets of ogogoro have been
equally salient throughout recent Nigerian
history. Many poor Nigerian families homebrew
the drink as a means of economic subsistence,
many of whom sell shots of it on city street
corners. The criminalization of ogogoro which
occurred under the colonial regime is also
believed to have been largely economic; while the
public justifications for the law regarded public
health and Christian beliefs regarding alcohol, it
has been argued that colonial officials were also
seeking to suppress local economic activity
which might draw money or labor away from the
colonial system.

Paperwhite:are you sure you read the post? cos this ur comment is everything but intelligent and critical when Buhari returned the budget you people complained . now you see reasons why he did so you're still blaming a party . is saraki ruling the senate with his partys interest ? sebi you people support Saraki and Dino . so why blame Apc now? these people are united when they steal our money but all you people see is Apc . |
alade112:who did not acknowledge Gej? You people Will just be looking for problem where there is none. The project was started by Obj , nurtured by Yar'adual/Gej and completed by Pmb . Hear Amaechi : www.fornaija.com/pin/32231/ |

chimauga:apart from Dina Melaye , who else have you heard from that Remi insulted Dina? |
kingthreat:well, pardon my gentleman approach later ppl like you will call yourselves Christians |
ndcide:well, guess who's running around trying to explain himself . The mistakes you simpletons make is thinking Dino only does this to Remi Tinubu . So bicos you detest anything anti-Apc ,you masturbate on it while you wallow in abject ignorance . In 2010 this same Dina assaulted a female rep . He`s known to beat his wives . So if you wanna support a serial woman beater cos you hate Tinubu - here a chance to knock yourself out . |
ndcide:lemme get you straight if a lady insulted you you'll also insult her back and threaten to rape and impregnate her na? ok. now i get u |
Dragonking:The op is on imported weed like Dina . No sane Yoruba will support any act of disrespect . The only people that supported whizkid are pant sagging teens that listen to his music . However , we all know the tribe synonymous with disrespect in nja . so op , the joke is on you |

I think if SenDino Malaye can hold a press conference to deny using inflamatory words against Sen Remi Tinubu. she should also hold a press conference to confirm he actually did. Sen shehu from Kaduna indirectly confirmed this on Channels tv but declined to mention names .Dina should not play on our intelligence at all Unless the whole senate had concluded to let bygone be bygone . |
talktonase:count Gerry Gana and David Mark out. Infact, count pdp out. we've tasted them b4 and it left an unpleasant indelible taste . if Buhari fails, another party is needed |
