Suicide Squad
Critics didn't hype or praise Suicide Squad.

Both fans and critics hated the film.

It only became a BO success because of good marketing from WB.

Exactly overhyping the movie will raise high expection which will in turn destroy the movie if it doesn't meet up.
When was the last time this happened to superhero film?

so was Justice league. Wait for it. And by the way, i realise m0st times films critics praise, i end up n0t liking them e.g w0nder w0man, thor ragnarok, ghost busters, h0mec0ming spiderman, etc.
Whether you enjoy a film or not is left to you.

But Critics reviews are very important because it will affect box office performance.

BVS was headed for a billion dollars after a massive opening weekend before critics thrashed it and ticket sales reduced.

The only time critics reactions did not affect a DC movie was with Suicide Squad.

Word of the mouth from critics is very crucial cuz it can make or mar a movie.
It will only take a miracle to survive it like Suicide Squad did and Venom too.

I may end up not liking Aquaman but I need critics to praise the film especially when you consider how much DC movies have suffered at the hands of critics.

OK.
There is always a Marvel fanboy who will start making comparison.

Someone called it the best Marvel movie that DC made.

Like they cant resist talking about a DC movie without making reference to Marvel.

I'd say fück them.. angry

there's one thing abt critical acclaim. You praise or hype a film too much, you leave its fans no chance to enjoy a film without them raising expectati0ns towards those films. Lo0k at star wars for example. Hyping this m0vie so much could turn against the film itself. And, d0n't believe everything the critics say, s0n.
Critics thrashed Justice League.

In fact Warner Bros didn't lift the embargo until a week before the release date.

They knew the reviews were bad and it would affect box office performance but with Aquaman it is way different from what I have seen before.

Lifting the embargo on social media 3 weeks early only indicates that the film is great and WB wants to rack up more ticket sales.

The official embargo on full critics reviews will be lifted a week early.

The difference between Aquaman and other DC movies is that both fans and critics are loving the film.

Unlike the others where only fans love it while critics are thrash talking the film.... It happened to Venom lately.

Critics hyping the film won't turn it against itself.
Come on, how many times has it happened to previous superhero films... Take Marvel films for instance.

Most of the time everything turns out well.

Star Wars situation was different.
They are many factors you need to consider that only Star Wars fans can explain.

So you can be rest assured there is no sentiments, no bias.... Just undiluted critics opinion on the film.

Aquaman is a fantastic movie... Through and through.

WB didn't disappoint me this time.

H0nestly, am n0t sold with J Mom0a playing Aquaman/the King of Atlantis. He's used to playing brutes or henchmen, Aquaman isn't that. I got that picture after JL. He was all thr0ugh the film a henchman to the league. He was barely n0ticeable. I bet Patrick Wilson is going to carry this m0vie on his head. As for Amber Heard, that's an0ther case entirely.
Aquaman is a critical hit.

I have posted the link for you. Go through it.
What you posted is someone's opinion not actual facts.

I have told you before.

Expections and box office success are two different things.

You said Avengers 4 would still be a success even if it doesn't meet the expectations and outgross the previous one.

That is exactly the point.
A movie doesn't have to meet expectations before becoming a success.
As long as it triples the investment, it is a commercial success through and through.

The link says BVS failed to hit expectations, it didn't prove BVS to be a commercial failure.

The general opinion in Hollywood says BVS is a commercial success despite not meeting expectations.

Your link doesn't prove otherwise.

So unless you want me to believe that a business man who earned thrice his investment is a failure, come up with solid facts.

I can post links that says BVS is a commercial success.

You can cherrypick links with different opinions all day.

The fact is.... BVS is a commercial success.
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by BlackManta(m): 11:08pm On Nov 26, 2018
TheKingIsHere:
1. Now, it is good that you know JL is a failure. Also note that expectations from viewers determines the success or failure of a movie .

The expectations from JL were cut short hence it became a box office bomb despise having top DC characters.

2. BVS was also deemed a failure because it came short of the $1bn expectation by everyone including WB. I posted the screenshot previously which you overlooked. Anything short of your expectation is a failure. You are looking at the money angle, but analyst will tell you that a movie with your 3 top characters should be sitting in the $1bn mark along with marvel big hits too. This is what WB expected but their expectations were cut short. This is what you need to understand.

3. There are high expectations for the next avengers movie and we all know the expectations will be met if not surpassed, hence making it a blockbuster in the making as usual.

4. Going back to BVS read this below

https://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/films/666617/Batman-v-Superman-Box-Office-flop-1-billion-mark-failure/amp

From the bolded in this statement, BVS wasn't on equal terms when compared with the huge success from marvel. This statement alone buttresses my initial post saying that DC needs to up their game and top character movies especially if it is a combination of top super heroes, should cross the $1bn mark. So forget all this your wonder woman drama and face reality.

Dark Knight did it for DC but ever since, it has been an issue for them as they find it difficult to hit that mark
When does a movie become a commercial success.

Cuz it seems you don't know the difference between expectations and actual commercial success.

When does a movie become a commercial success.?

TheKingIsHere:
What about the answer to my question? I await your response to that too.
JL is a failure.

WB lost 6 million on that movie.

You need to understand that expections and actual box office success are two different things.

That is why MOS, BVS, Suicide squad and WW will always be considered a commercial success.

High expectations were placed on BVS and even though it didn't meet the billion dollars expectations...it is still considered a commercial success cuz it tripled WB's 250m investment on the film.

There is high expectations on Avengers 4 and Avatar 2 and 3 to out gross their recent installments.
Not meeting those expectations won't make them failures.

So the opinion that your top character must make billions before becoming a success is absolutely wrong.

As for JL, not only did it fail to meet expectations...WB lost 6m on the film... It failed.

Woman woman was excluded because this is the first movie from her as nobody expected much from the movie, unlike BVS, justice league etc.

Wonder woman made cash but it can't and can never be compared to movies like the Dark Knight. That's why I stated it at the very beginning of the discussion.

Now that I have answered your question, I expect you to answer mine.

Is Justice league movie, a movie with 6 major DC superhero characters successful? If yes or no, why?
Wonder Woman is a top DC character.

She's up there with Batman and Superman.

And because of that she totally falls into your bracket when you made this statement.

Also take note that your top character movies should be hitting the $1bn mark to be tagged as successful

So according to the yardstick you provided, Wonder Woman is a failure and calling it a success would be contradicting yourself.

Go and read my post again and stop misconstruing yourself.

I said "Wonder woman was a hit for a movie that nobody expected much but can never be compared to a masterpiece like the dark Knight."

I further buttressed it by using BVS and Justice league.

This should explain everything but you guys keep jumping into assumptions.

That's how MJBOLT said I said any movie should make $1bn mark. Na wa.
Please explain this statement of yours.

Also take note that your top character movies should be hitting the $1bn mark to be tagged as successful

And tell me why you've excluded Wonder Woman from that bracket.

You are contradicting yourself.

You say DC's top characters must hit 1 billion else it's not a success.

Then you say Wonder Woman is a success.

These are your words.

Also take note that your top character movies should be hitting the $1bn mark to be tagged as successful

Wonder Woman is a top DC character, so she falls into your bracket of unsuccessful.

Marvel's iron man 3, Captain America winter soldier, Avengers 1-4 and even Black panther broke this milestone.

As for DC, the last time this was achieved by a major character was the dark Knight.

BVS was a let down even with 3 major characters in it. Not to talk of the crappy justice league movie
Explain the bolded.

Wonder Woman is a top DC character and technically she falls into your bracket of (unsuccessful /failures)
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by BlackManta(m): 7:12pm On Nov 26, 2018
TheKingIsHere:
Iron man 1 and 2 are hits just like wonder woman. When you talk of box office block buster success they cross the $1bn mark.

Now here are Marvel top block busters that have crossed the $1bn in no order

1. Captain America Civil war (not winter soldier, my error)
2. Avengers, age of ultron 2015
3. The avengers 2012
4. Iron man 3
5. Black panther
6. Avengers 2018

Marvel has 6 movies that crossed the $1bn mark while DC just has 2 and they are both Batman: The dark Knight 1&2. Look at the comparison and see that DC hasn't even reached half of the feat Marvel has accomplished.

Now let me ask you, the Justice league movie of last year that has about 6 major DC characters grossed just over $650m in the box office.

Will you call this movie a success when compared to its kind, the first avengers that grossed over $1bn?
So I brought up Iron Man and Captain America and you immediately changed tune.

Before it was Wonder Woman was a failure.

Now it is wonder woman was a success.

The only dc film that failed is JL, the others are a commercial success.

MJBOLT:
i believe 6 marvel movies,Avengers,age of ultron,infinity war,civil war,iron man 3 and black panther
Thanks for the correction.

Thekingishere thinks the remaining 13 movies are failures cuz they didn't make 1 billion.

That's the crux of the argument.

Marvel has more than 4 movies that hit past $1bn mark. This year alone black panther crossed $1bn while Avengers (2018) crossed$2bn. You can check google as I don't have time to bring the list out.

You are the one that should check the records.

Only 6 marvel movies crossed 1 billion.

Civil war.

Iron Man 3.

Black panther.

Avengers 123.

Winter soldier didn't make 1 billion, but it crossed 700 million and that is a box office success.

You are yet to answer my question.

Iron Man 1 and 2 and the first Captain America film failed to hit 1 billion, does it mean they are failures huh

Aren't they top marvel characters.
